Hi,
Any AT&T Atrix2 users in the Netherland ?
I've just arrived last week and I couldn't get a stable data connections. I know it's not a network problem because my friends don't have any problem. So I'm wondering if for some reason it's my phone (radio incompatibility maybe).
Most of the time it just won't attached to the network, other time it attached to the network but data is not flowing.
SMS/Voice call are doing fine.

Live Vodafone...
Anyway, don't think that the problem is with the app, cause from time to time, I could have connection (a very fast one I have to say), but most of the time, no traffic are coming through.

And you have tried your connection from the same locations as your friends, who are also using the same mobile operator?
I use a SIM unlocked AT&T Atrix 2 in the Netherlands with no problems. I'm on T-Mobile NL and live in Amsterdam.
I have had problems with my phone failing to connect to a data network when I travel outside of the Netherlands, though. It'll get itself into a state where it won't send or receive data even with the "data roaming" option selected. I've always been able to solve it by rebooting the phone, but that's a crappy solution. Does a power cycle fix it for you?
recently ive been all around(Ger,Aus,Slo,Cze,Hun) europe with data roaming on, and i had data(and phone ofc)just fine where i wanted it. im with vodafone.
unlocked att atrix2
I think it might have something to do with the radio. Force my phone to 2G and connection is very stable.
Might be related with me living in Maastricht which is quite close to the border.

afaik the att 3g bands dont cover all the european 3g gsm bands, its rare but you might be unlucky... you have to see specs of a2 and your providers bands.

yup .. that makes a lot sense .. that would explain the stability problem .. well, no biggie .. 2G serves me just fine ..

Some of European providers use 900MHz band for UMTS which not supported by A2.
So in areas without 2100MHz but with 900MHz UMTS our phone will not work in 3G .
What I find it strange is, when I'm on 3G, phone and sms work just fine. I got a full signal also. That's why I don't suspect radio problem.

When you're on 3G, it SHOULD work fine.
If you meant "when you're not on 3G," then that is still normal. Different radio bands handle different tasks from your phone - SMSPhone being examples. You can still be "on network" and not have 3G data connectivity.
If you take a trip to a different city in the Netherlands and your 3G works fine, you'll know the problem is with the radio bands your carrier is using/not using in your home area. If your connection is still bad, then you have an issue with your phone itself.
^^
that is correct. its not so simple as "sms works so data should too"
in this century less and less people are sending sms and calling, compared to the growth of mobile data usage. but the number of bands on the avaliable frequencies didnt grow at all. so networks adapt to it, different bands are becoming data bands, and small unused bands are becoming phone bands, and so on..

Hi all,
Sorry if this seems a dull question but ........
I have an XDA1 and wonder whether I can use it on the 3G network? If not, how about the XDAII?
My present phone is a Motorola A920 using the 3G network but I'd got used to my XDA and prefer it!
My XDA1 has been unlocked.
Many thanks
John
Have you found out any news about using the 3G network on the XDA or XDA II? I have an XDA II and would find it intresting if there was software update or somthing like that
The XDA1 and XDA2 does not work on 3G networks (UMTS) as the frequency is different and the transceiver in the 1 & 2 does not support this.
There is though a new XDA3 on the market which supports 3G, but I dont know where it is available.
I think you will find that a 3G XDA has not been released as yet. for information on XDA III (name may cause confusion in O2 camp, re 2nd article) see:
http://www.mobile-review.com/pda/review/htc-blue-angel-en.shtml
http://techdigestuk.typepad.com/tech_digest/2004/07/xda3_or_is_that.html
my xda works on a 3 sim, but takes about a minute to find network. it roams to o2. can't sms.
when ever 3g phones cant reach a utms signal it just use gsm of cause only for talk
so there should be no problems using a 3g sim since it will just work as a normal gsm sim in a non utms phone
but i'm prettty sure that they dont offer grps roaming
software can never make a xda1-3 or any other non utms phone a utms phone just like an old 56K modem cant be software upgraded to a cabel modem
I would love to have 3G Network. Their data connection is as fast as 144kbps DSL speed. That's much faster than GSM network.
I'm playing in the field of 32kbps with GSM network. Blah, you call that the speed of DSL as they say? Right.
I have an XDA 1 which works just fine with my 3 sim BUT I cannot send SMS only receive, don't know why and haven't found anyone on this forum who can explain why.
SIM Manager doesnt work either, just says SIM is busy. Try again in 5 seconds but I could wait a month of Sundays and the SIM is still busy.
messing around with my xda1 last night, which has an o2 and a 3 sim in it. had the 3 sim selected, made a new work connection called Three, apn: three.co.uk, username: netservices. pressed connect AND IT DID!! BUT tried to access web and then wap, NO JOY. all other settings are for o2 payandgo online. when i had 3 sim in 3 phone i DIDN'T have to be in a 3g area to access all 3 services. any ideas if i can get any transfer going through xda? plus my new 3sim has arrived, NOT putting that in just yet!!!
3g or UTMS is not supported in many places and when you get out of their range their just do gsm and grps
there should not be a problem getting the services of 3g to work but you dont get the speed because you are not getting utms signal just be having sim it's on a different set of frequencies
there are CF and maybe SD cards out there which act as utms modems which can give a pda a nice internet speed boost though
yeah i know i won't get any extra speed, but it did connect to GPRS via the 3 sim, yes i know it was roaming to o2, the thing is i still want to see what i can get it to do. if i could get it to view FULL internet even at GPRS speeds, for NO charge then that would be good. my 3 package is 3togo, no monthly fee, no free mins, you only pay for what you use,you get a bill later.
You weren't technically roaming with o2.
Three uses o2 as a carrier network for 2.5G communications.
I've tried a Three SIM in my XDA II with similar results to you. However, i've noticed that in the latest XDA II o2 ROM upgrade, they install video calling applications.
I'll keep you posted - I work for Three so I know the details

Also, it could be a matter of smsc centre being incorrectly configured when the 3 sim is placed in the XDA device

Guys,
Don't keep your 3 usims in 2G handsets for very long. If 3 notice you are constantly roaming on o2 they *will* block the SIM.
Did anyone end up find out if you can actually sms with a Three sim in it ?

Nah. There's a video mms application and you can also download or stream short video clips but these are all gprs services. Video calling is a 3g only service and no xda device has the hardware/software for that yet.

Hi,
I have a HTC Desire S which I bought Sim Free and am currently using a Vodafone UK SIM. I notice that a lot of my calls whilst on a HSDPA signal or even EDGE seem to be routed to voicemail even though the setting is disabled and I experience data blocks. Even though I'm shown I have data connectivity I cant use data and calls wont connect.
I was wondering whether you would think this is a SIM or a phone issue. I have had this on two Desire S phones and when using the SIM with a 2G only phone I don't seem to experience this problem. I'm in an area where there should be great indoor and outdoor coverage and the provider has no reported issues at the moment.
I think the problem is with network...
As you said with 2G you don't experience any issues...that proves the point...
I would suggest use only 2G (GSM) mode rather than edge...
until network improves...
Also that would give a better battery life ;-)
I too had a few calls go to voicemail when I should have had signal to receive calls, on t mobile uk, suspect that it's as the signal strength seems to fluctuate sometimes which I have seen, especially when using wifi And/or data.
Although not happened enough to be a really a massive problem.

Yes, like vampire36 said, the problem is in the EDGE & HSDPA network.
Try using 2G for a while with EDGE & HSDPA are closed for a few days then report back.
Hope this works out for you
I'm also on vodafone uk and I haven't had this issue, I'd say call the support line (as foolish as it sounds) as this isn't a problem I have had at all :/
But for the time being just stick to 2G so you can receive calls and such
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA App
Thanks for the tips. Vodafone have told me that there are 2 masts down serving my area so there isn't any 3G coverage and when I do very rarely get on HSDPA I experience data blocks because of the insufficient coverage. Even on 2G there are coverage issues because of these masts so now at least I know where the problem lies.
Has been an issue since February and this isn't rural countryside we are talking about but literally on the edge of the City of London! At least they've halved my bill till they sort it out.
I'm getting NO data right now. Is LTE down? Any why is it that every time LTE is down, I can't get 3G either
LTE outages started in the Northeast yesterday, but seem to have spread nationwide now. This will cause complete outages on LTE devices due to the switching protocols not working properly
http://www.gottabemobile.com/2011/12/07/verizon-suffering-4g-lte-outage/
I'm experiencing the same thing. Maybe they're preparing for the launch of the two new phones?
Anyhow, my coworker's 3G Droid Pro is working fine...
No data at all for me in South Florida. As for the LTE outage also knocking out our 3g... Blame the SIM card. It authenticates over the GSM (LTE) network.

Try calling *611 I just called and they have a message playing acknowledging the outage. (For my area at least)
Sent from my SCH-I510 using xda premium
And just like that, my data came back. But it's only 3G right now.
I love forums. Within minutes I get reassurance it's not just my phone!
Out in New Orleans, LA as well. *611 confirmed they have an outage in my area.
I haven't had any issues yet today in my 180 miles of driving. Then I had 4g disabled.

Mine went out around 12:45pst. I was next to a has store and they confirmed a nationwide data outage.
Strangely however of all the phones in the store, only the Bionic seemed unaffected. It had 4g when nothing else in store had either 3g or 4g. I'm back with 3g now.

Go to Wireless & Network setting > Mobile Networks > System selection > pick CDMA, automatic. Then you will get 3G. It's better than no data at all.

There is a particular protocol, which currently eludes me, that is required on a mixed LTE/CDMA network to control the switching between the two systems. That protocol is there on every part of the network, not just the LTE segments. If there is a problem with that protocol, this phone isn't going to get any data at all...it doesn't matter if there is CDMA available or not.
Voice and text aren't affected because they don't use the data segment and they don't use LTE, so they don't have to worry with that switching protocol.
FYI For everyone, Verizon just announced about 30 mins ago they have the LTE network back up and running.
I can confirm in NYC i can finally connect back on 4G.
So I I've searched for an answer or a problem similar only to come out with no luck...do what's going on right now is that I got my inspire unlocked from att and came to India because I now have to live here because in going to college here..anyway its unlocked and I purchased a prepaid plan from company Vodafone.
So I've been running with 2g for some time now and now I just sick off it and need 3g so I can also use mylaptop and connect to hotspot. Anyway I've got 3g plan however my phone is constantly staying on EDGE....which is pretty annoying because its so slow and I paid a bit to get 3g upgrade. I've tried the *%*#4636#*#* phone setting and switched to GSM/cdma auto. Also got the smsc and updated. Also I set up a new APN suited for the company with no luck..still on 2B.C. So my question is..how do you switch on 3g on inspire? Haven't been able to find that also been searching it. My Android is still 2.2.1 if that makes any difference. I've also called they company and HTC to no success...so please help me out. How do I initiate 3g on my inspire?
apparently I just need the option to turn on 3g and the phone info thing won't work...keeps me on edge.
Thanks
If you have tried going to your settings then to you mobile network settings. There should be an option to use only 2g networks. If that is checked, then you need to uncheck that.

But that's the problem...I can't find that option.I go into mobile network settings and see data roaming...apn..network operators..and always on mobile network option. I've been trying o find a option to set which to put..for instance 3g only or 2 g only or 3g preferred..no avail. still have Droid 2.2.1 if that makes any difference..
Their is no way to get 3g. India uses a different frequency for 3g. No way to change it outside of getting a different phone with compatible bands
The Inspire radio utilizes the 850/1900 3G bands. India uses the 900/1800 bands for 3G. If you use the phone in a market where the 3G is on a different frequency than the radio in the phone, the best you'll get is Edge. This is hardware related. There is no setting you can change or ROM you can flash that will allow it to operate on 3G in your market.
So no absolute way of getting 3g on my inspire in India?
Nope
..........
Huh...so best bet would be to get a new phone? What should I look for in order for this problem not to happen again?
Get the correct version, The Desire HD.
Is it company -problem or a country -problem? If I switch providrs, will it work?

Doubt it. Pretty much everyone except the US uses 900/1800, and att uses 850/1900 on it's phones (the inspire) - as previously stated this is in the phones hardware. So unless you can find a provider that uses 850/1900 for 3G your SOL - best bet is to get a new phone (DHD uses 900/1800 for 3G and is the same device as the Inspire, very minor differences)
Even i too have the same problem and I am from India.I have tried with my network operators many times but nothing works,i have to pay for 3g data and use 2g.Is there no fix for this issue?
omg, SEARCH. its what you agreed to do before posting.

Oh god!!guess i need to buy another phone in order to use 3g in my country.
Hello -
I'm having some connection issues with my T-Mobile G2X device.
I started using it with a 2G SIM card and it worked just fine ( I'm not using it in the united states but I'm pretty sure it supports the local 3G network ).
I started playing with roms, again, everything worked fine.
A couple of months ago I switched to a 3G carrier.
I couldn't get the 3G network working, though the normal calls, sms and wifi work ok.
Sometimes the APN list just won't respond - I get inside it, it shows no entries, I create a new one, and after I press "Save", it's still empty.
Sometimes the APNs I inserted do appear, but not functioning.
I checked my sim card with other smartphones, and they manage to access it's 3g just fine.
I tried multiple roms, multiple APN settings and a Premission Fix - nothing helped.
I'm currently using the HellFire v1.8 ICS rom, but the network didn't work with GB roms as well.
In addition, I noticed that when the phone powers up after I had restarted it, it takes him quite a while to pick up the mobile signal, but maybe it has nothing to do with the phone it self, as this appeared only after I switched to my new carrier.
Any ideas how to fix this?
Also, sometimes after I finish a call, the screen goes black, and the only way to repair it is to remove and re-enter the battery. is that the "SoD" that the sticky refers to?
Thank you for your help!
To the best of my knowledge the g2x is 2g & 4g only. So you will need to get a different phone if you want 3g service.
The G2X only supports HSPA 1700/1900/2100 frequencies, which is technically 3G. But T mobile likes to call it 4G. What you should have done is check your carrier frequencies and if it supports 1700/1900/2100 frequencies then you should have no problem getting 3G/4G service. Hope it helps.

ICS roms for G2X are really buggy, if you want a fully functional phone you should go for CM7 based roms
