Turn on DLNA problem - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I want to turn on DLNA.
I go to the settings screen and want to turn on Nearby Devices.
However thats not possible, all options are shown gray and I can not choose any option in the screen from Nearby Devices.
Anyone familiar with this problem ?

Do you have wifi on? I think you can only enable it if your connected to a router or hotspot.

Same here. My S3 is connected to Wifi but no nearby devices are showing (and It cant be activated too)

Are you using a ROM other than stock? I just installed CleanROM and noticed the same thing you are. On stock it worked fine.

[Q] Bluetooth Tether auto reconnect

Hey Folks,
I've been using my Note GT-N7000 to tether with my Note 10.1 over bluetooth, which works just great if I explicitly connect the two. However, if say for example, the Note 10.1 is in my office, and the Note GT-N7000 is in my pocket, and I leave the office, the two won't automatically reconnect to each other when I return. I have to manually connect them again.
Is there any way to have the two automatically reconnect to each other when they are in proximity?
Thanks,
Drkmtr
Hey drkmtr, sorry I don't have an answer for you. I'd love to be able to get the bluetooth tethering to work. I'm also using a GT-N7000 and a Note 10.1 but I have had no luck. Are you using a 3rd party app to share the internet?
In my case everything connects, on my Note 10.1 the box "Use for internet access" is checked in bluetooth settings. But it just doesn't work for me.
Thanks for your reply mate,
The BT tethering works out of the box for me, no third party apps required, although I am running a custom ICS ROM on the N7000. How have you got your N7000 setup? I assume you have BT tethering enabled in your N7000 settings?
You could try a third party app "BT Auto Tethering" on the N7000 and it's sister app "BT Auto Connect" on the 10.1... both available from the market gratis.

I'm running Paranoid JB nightlies on my phone and stock on the tablet. Thanks for the market apps I, will give those a try.
Maybe I should go back ti ics on my phone.
I do this exact same thing as well and I haven't figured out a way to get them to auto connect either

Did anyone find a way to get auto-reconnect functionality with BT tethering?
I tether my Note to my Evo 3D using the stock BT tethering while at work. It works great except for my phone's crappy connection in my building (I blame Rogers).
Also, is anyone else experiencing drops in the tether connection when the Note sits idle for a while. If I initiate the tether, then let the tablet sit for a while unused, often when I pick it up to use it the tether connection is dead. The statusbar still states there's a tethered internet connection (as it does on my Evo 3D), but none of my apps will be able to connect to the web. The only way to re-establish the link is to turn BT off on the Note, and then turn it back on and re-initiate the tether.
Ooo... my 1,000th post.

Wi-Fi simultaneous with 3g solution?

At my mountain cabin, I do not have a household internet connection, but I do have a Wi-Fi network set up strictly for media sharing. So when I connect my s3 to Wi-Fi for sharing media with DLNA, I can no longer access any internet from my phone and it assumes my Wi-Fi network is also an internet access point, which it is not. Is there any way to force the 3g radio to stay active for internet connectivity while the Wi-Fi radio is on just for media sharing?
I am on ICS rooted and unlocked, also 4g is not yet active in the mountains, so I am limited to using the 3g radio if that makes a difference....Any suggestions appreciated!

There actually is something for that, can't quite remember what its called but I'd do a search in the apps section under android apps. I'll link it if I see it again.

Since Wi-Fi tether uses both radios simultaneously it must be possible...just can't find the app anywhere....let me know if you locate it.

Thanks. That is a really cool program fir downloading from the internet, but doesn't really do what I need. All I want is to enable Wi-Fi for DLNA and other local streaming apps, but still have internet access via mobile data. For example, I would like to stream music/video/pictures remotely from my home PC via all share play on my s3 and play them on my tv via my DLNA enabled blu ray player using the remote screen option on the S3. I don't think this currently exists, but let me know if you think of any thing else. Thanks again!

Check these threads, it has been done so far successfully on Optimus G, as well as Nexus 4 phones:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1640472
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2197776
Since you are rooted, please try these methods, make them work on your phone, and post your results and any changes here. I was able to bring up wifi on my nexus 4 without bringing down my mobile data. The only glitch is that the wifi icon does not turn on, but both networks are verifyiably up, so I can ssh from the phone to my LAN (and vice versa) and I can traceroute from my phone to the outside world, or access websites, through my mobile carrier.

new Wifi issue from HTC One X Roger

Hi guys
I want to ask you guys about my wifi problem. My Roger HOX cant connect to some modem/routers, it looking for IP address all the time. But when i reset the router(unplug from power source, and turn on again), it connected. But after you disconnect the phone, u cant reconnect it if not reset modem/router again.
It happen for just only my router at home, i tried 3 different places, and it is good to connect to that wifi networks. I cant understand this problem
Same thing happen when running stock rom or cook rom. So maybe the problem is my router? But everything else such as: laptop, playbook, touchpad, ipad... connect fine, only my phone have that problem
My internet is Telus.
I would play with the "advanced wifi" setting on the device:
- select (check) best wifi performance,
- keep wifi on during sleep
- play with the frequency band also, select one at a time
- assign an IP for your device (let's say 192.168.1.99) instead of being assigned by your router.
On the router, force the use of b/g instead the newer n type if supported or use different security authentication wep/wpa or both.

I did alll of that stuffs, but still have that problem. Maybe i will try to assign an IP for my device.
My router is n supported, some of device like ipod touch, ipad connect using n, but my oneX just use g, dont know why.
The security rightnow is both Wep and Wpa
I remember I had a similar problem in the past and it was the router (netgear), my laptop would reconnect but not my phone (an atrix 4g at the time). Try to flash the latest firmware on the router using a wired connection (not while connected wireless) and then hard reset the router (you'll have to do all the settings again.) the hard reset was the important step, for some reason it didn't work if I skipped it.

Exactly, Telus using Netgear router :good: but maybe the problem was fixed rightnow after i upgrade my phone to Jelly Bean with sense 4+(Viper 3.0)
I need to take a look on my phone 2 or 3 more days to ensure it fixed. Dont know the reason, but when i use all of the custom rom base on ICS, still have the same problem, but when i updated to JB, it was fixed. LOL
PS: Nevermind, the problem is still here can you show me how to flash tthe latest firmware?
You'll find the latest firmware on netgear's website, then you log in on your router and flash from there (there's an option for that). If you want, I can pm you the detailed howto after I get home tonight, just send me the router model no.

How to do routing from USB to Android device to WiFi coonection to Interweb?

I have a not that unusual request but google searching it is impossible due to the interchangable words and their context.....
I have an Android device with a WiFi hotspot app installed that allows me to connect to hotspots anywhere.
I am at a friends who's internet connection is currently down and needs to get online for a few hours.
I have my USB to device cable.
So I want to do.....
His Computer --> USB Cable --> My Android Device --> WiFi Connection --> My Hotspot provider --> Interweb
This would seem to be fairly standard proxy forwarding to me, so is there a proxy server app for Android?
Before anyone suggests it I can't use tethering as he wants a shedload of data and it would break my 3g cap.
Thanks in advance.

Look buddy if you want to connect your friends phone with your wifi hotspot then turn it on in settings.
You must know that there is a difference in wifi and wifi hotspot.
Your android phone must be enable of wifi hotspot or wifi tethering.
And specify your particular problem.dont mess your question.

PDANET 3.5 via USB tetheror JB USB tethering.
Just enable disable radios, start thering on the device, plug it in.. you may need a client on the pc (as in PDANET).
They are what you are looking for.

[Q] Looking for Tether TO Widget

I have a Bluetooth tether enabled Android phone and Android Tablet.
Does anyone know what app (widget) can specifically connect the tablet to the Phone's bluetooth tether? one click?
without going into the settings?
Try WiFi Manager. There are different set of widgets. You can ask google too.
Took a look at Wifi Manager on the play store, the description does not mention anything about Bluetooth.
The Search continues
Doesn't the device connect automagically when you switch bt on? I only have to pair my devices once and the connect upon turning bt on.
No, Bluetooth tethering doesn't automatically connect.
It wouldn't make sense to.
What if WiFi is already connected?
What if your bt headphone is always supposed to be connected but you don't always need Bluetooth tethering?
In any case, I solved the problem by using Tasker annd secure settings.
It will automatically connect to the cell phone's bluetooth tether when I launch the web browser or youtube or gmail if wifi is not connected.
Gotta love android. You can make your own solutions!
