Chromebox and development xda ect. - General Questions and Answers

hi all, i just bought a chromebox and am planning to ditch windows as my house is now the full google ecosystem, what i was wondering was will i still be able to connect my phone and use adb and toolkits for my phone and tablet ect. is there possibly an app for the chromebox where i can install windows in a virtual machine and use it when necessary. any help or opinions ect ect would be great thanks

I do not think there is currently a way to do that due to chrome OS does not run apps like windows. However if you want windows for a long time on your computer you can switch the switch inside your chromebox to developer mode and edit chrome to do that or install windows. I hope I helped

[Q] Data sync between Android Phone and Android Tablet

Hi Guys/Gals
I Ave a question regarding sync data between phone and tablet. I have a galaxy s2 and galaxy tab 10.1 and I use them both for work in terms of documents etc.... I use the tablet mainly for working with documents, emails, photos etc... and the phone mostly as a means to access said mentioned data quickly and easily when travelling or on the go when I don't have my tablet to hand.
My question is, would it be possible for both devices to contain the same config with same apps, data profile etc....? What I mean is like a laptop and a desktop having the same user profile same home screen or desktop and then have documents sync'd across both devices maybe using combo of drop box or box.
I know it sounds crazy but I think this will be something that windows 8 will support using windows live id as a profile login and stored in the cloud so when you logon to the upcoming windows phone 8 or a windows 8 tablet and a desktop..... in theory they would all be a replica of each other, a neat concept I think.
Comments or suggestions most welcome.
Thanks

[Q] Nexus 7 as display for TV dongle possible?

Hello everyone,
I am attempting to hack a Tronsmart MK908II TV dongle into a portable web server, dev environment, and sandbox. For my first attempt I'm using the stock ROM and apps from the app store such as Bit Web Server and Terminal IDE. I've had a fair amount of success, though very tempted to install Pic-Untu (Ubuntu) for a more open and accessible environment.
One of my main objectives is to have a miniature HD monitor so I can have direct access to the device if necessary even when I'm on the go. Before I go out and buy a suitable device for this, I'm trying to get my Nexus 7 to act as the display, since I always have it with me and it's the perfect size. I believe I may have all the necessary cables and converters to make something like this possible... I'm just a bit stuck at the moment on getting it all to work as I want and I suspect its a software/config/capabilities limitation more than a physical one. I have already attempted this a couple of different ways, including using a USB cable from the dongle and an OTG converter for my Nexus 7, but have not been able to get it to to recognize input from the dongle.
Does anyone have any advice that might point me in the right direction? Maybe this would actually be easier if Ubuntu was running on the stick instead of Android. I still want to try a few more things before I head down that path, but I'd love to know if my efforts here would be futile.
Thanks!

windows appstore download issue

hey all, I use my nexus 5 as a hotspot for my windows tablet. when im connected to be nexus 5s wifi I cant download any apps from the windows app store. but every other data related program on the tablet works fine. now if im connected to a traditional wifi router then the appstore will download the apps. I have been on the phone with Microsoft tech support for over 2 hours trying to trouble shoot the issue. They even logged on via remote desktop and still could not find a solution. so this is my last ditch effort to solve this problem.. bring up to the great minds of XDA.
I am using windows 8.1 non rt
Odd one.
Any add blocking / altered hosts files on your Nexus?
Only thing I can think of.
May be your account is not update..

problem with TeamViewer on Android Lollipop

Hello to everyone,
I'm writing for a friend who has a big problem with TeamViewer:
"I'm a 19 yers old boy, who is affected by a rare degenerative genetic disease that forces me to stay 24/7 lying, and allows me to move only the index of the left hand, that I use to move the touchpad on my laptop.
Yesterday, I've updated my Android smartphone (an LG Nexus 5) to the new 5.0 version "Lollipop", but the remote control of the TeamViewer Quick Support app, which is foundamental to me for using my smartphone, does not work anymore. The app cannot connect to my phone, and it keeps the "connecting" word on the screen without any effects.
I state that the notebook software and the app, are up to date to their last stable version. In addition the laptop mounts the Windows 8.1 O.S.
I please the staff of TeamViewer, or anyone who can help me to solve this problem, to make compatible the app, or give me a solution.
I'm not able to use the smartphone without the remote control, and without smartphone i'm more disabled than i already am.
Thank you,
Mattia."

Pc running win7. Need emulator to recognise usb gps dongle

I have a toughbook running windows 7.
I want to run navionics boating navigation app via an android simulator and have it use the location given by my usb gos dongle as its considerably cheaper than a dedicated chartplotter.
So far ive tried a few emulators. Leapdroid seems to be the fastest to load and run the app. Or virtual box running android x86.
Genymotion/jar of beans/andyroid install ok but then seem to disappear from the system.
Nox doesnt list the app in google play store for some reason.
Memu works ok and bluestacks is painfully slow.
All the above will not take the location from the dongle.
I wont be connected to wifi as il be on a boat.
There is a similar post been made here
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help/windows-10-laptop-usb-gps-dongle-t3467549
But had no answers.
Can anyone help me at all? You may guess im not technically minded with things like this.
We are talking the difference between $2000 or a $20 per yr subscription with android app.
Thanks.

This is a PC related question, not an android specific problem, I don't think the solution is android related. The problem you are having is related to the PC programs that you are using, not the android operating system that you are using in those programs. You are having issues with getting the emulator to use your dongle correctly, not necessarily a problem with android using the dongle.
This question should be asked on a PC forum or maybe a forum created for one of the emulator programs you are using. For example, try finding a forum for BlueStacks or a forum for one of the other emulators that you have tried.
Have you seen this:

Or have you read this:
https://software.intel.com/en-us/forums/android-applications-on-intel-architecture/topic/277447
Or this:

You can also try installing androidx86 in a separate partition on your laptop in a dual boot setup, then you can boot android at startup instead of Windows instead of using an android emulator, it will be able to access your USB ports without needing extra configuration and it's much faster than using an emulator, similar to how KurtVV did in the thread linked below.
