Samsung Stratosphere 2 Press Shots Leaked! - Android General

The Samsung Stratosphere wasn't the hottest phone when it originally debuted, its specs were months behind and it was reminiscent of Sprint's Epic 4G. It featured a single-core proccesor when dual-core had already become the standard. Times have changed and Samsung has decided to refresh Verizon's Stratosphere with the Stratosphere 2, a dual-core, Android 4.0 update to the original. We received the official press photo's earlier and have them to share with you all.
With the Droid 4 already available, is there still a market for this kind of device?

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S II = Samsung Galaxy 2

A quick question, I stumbled over this "release date/roadmap" chart for Verizon,
ttp://smartphonecenter.info/wp-content/plugins/RSSPoster_PRO/cache/d8461_verizon-roadmap-spring2011110330143135.jpg
And I was wondering if the Samsung Galaxy 2 is suppose to be some new phone, or is just the Galaxy S II that currently is available elsewhere? I am just trying to find more information about the Galaxy 2 that the Verizon will have and to see if the video reviews for the "Galaxy S II" is something equivalent I should I expect.
Also, any opinions on going with a Samsung Android phones over the "more" popular HTC phones. I played around with some HTC phones, and those are nice...But considering Samsung can afford AMOLED...That's even a big plus since from the video reviews of the recent phones, the screens are gorgeous as ****.
Basically, "Samsung Galaxy S II" = "Samsung Galaxy 2"?
Horrible development communities for the Samsung devices. That alone is a deal-breaker for me. Not to mention how cheap they feel in your hand...
I have had both phones HTC and Samsung, I have found the hardware better put together than the HTC or Motorola. Originally I thought that the all plastic (quote cheap feel) was going to be too weak but, after having a phone for about a year it is really pretty resilient. That and 40% less weight is awesome. I could give a damn about Samsung software since i customize the phone and have done to all my phones. XDA is my update center not Samsung or HTC. So the S2 as of today has the best hardware to date and unless something changes that is the next phone I will be getting. Also, HTC is trying to lock the bootloader so you can't root the phone...... screw any company that tries to dictate what I do on MY phone ........... that in itself is the real deal breaker
Samsung Galaxy S II
Samsung Galaxy S II all the way. Screw HTC trying to lock up their bootloaders, that means I'm also locking HTC out of my wallet. Right now no phone on the planet compares to the S2. My only issue is that I want the thing to be released in the USA yesterday - on all networks.
Come on guys, you are missing the point. Yes, I understand that the Galaxy is a great phone...I am just trying to figure out if the one that will be released for Verizon under the name "Galaxy 2" will be the same as the "S II" or whatever is called.

[Q] AT&T - What to do?

First off, thanks for reading my thread. I'm currently stuck in a bit of a dilemma. I'm 14 years old so I don't really have flexibility when it comes to other carriers - I'm stuck with my families AT&T family plan. I completely broke my iPhone 3G by having it in my football bag on an away game. When I took out my phone to check my messages it had somehow been badly cracked starting from the home button and extending to about half-way up the phone. The home button is unusable. I've been hiding this from my parents because if they saw it they'd surely make me go get a phone at that moment. I've been making excuses of why I wasn't answering my Mom's texts and calls but that can only go on for so long. Here is my current ideas, but I'm also open to new ones:
1. Grab the HTC Vivid
Pros -
High(er) screen resolution
HTC Sense UI (big pro to me)
HTC build quality
LTE
Confirmed 4.0
Cons -
Underclocked Snapdragon processor
qHD inferior to other screens
2. Grab the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket
Pros -
SAMOLED+
LTE
Confirmed 4.0
Cons -
Low resolution by today's standards
Snapdragon processor
3. Grab the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II
Pros -
SAMOLED+
Exynos
Confirmed 4.0
Cons -
No LTE
Low resolution by today's standards
4. Get the iPhone 4S
Pros -
Pixel density
Premium build quality
My Dad is a giant "Macfag" so he will approve this purchase
Cons -
I don't want iOS
Small screen
5. Wait until the HTC Rezound (my current choice of the big 3), Galaxy Nexus, Droid RAZR comes to AT&T
Pros -
720p screens (except for the RAZR)
TI OMAP
Confirmed 4.0 or 4.0 pre-loaded
Various perks like Beats
Rezound has Sense 3.5
Cons -
May not come to AT&T for a long time and my time is running out
6. Grab one of the first 3 mentioned phones and pray that one of the new 3 come out in the 30-day exchange window
As you can see I am in quite a dilemma. Sorry for the long post and thanks for reading.
Well the RAZR won't be coming to AT&T and the Nexus could be awhile. I would go with skyrocket if LTE is important to you. The T-Mobile Galaxy S2 has the snapdragon processor and hands on reviews cannot see a difference in performance. Plus you can always root it and overclock it. If LTE is not a huge factor, I would go with the regular Galaxy S2.
At the moment LTE is zero use to me since I live in the Philadelphia area where AT&T has no reaching LTE towers and I'm not sure until how long it will be of use to me but I think within my 2 year contract it could become a good deal. Also, are you saying the SGSII Skyrocket is better than the HTC Vivid?

I'm all ready pretty sold on Android, just included the iPhone in my options because it won't become directly out-dated soon.
I just saw that HTC phones are optimized for Snapdragon and Samsung phones are optimized for Exynos/Hummingbird. Is that true?

Samsung announced ICS update in Korea, but only for newer phones.

Samsung just officially announced that there will be no ICS update for various android based phone from Samsung EXCEPT GS2, GS2 LTE, GS2 HD, Galaxy Note, Galaxy Tab 10.1, Galaxy Tab 8.9.
Samsung also said that GS1 specially optimized for Gingerbread, so they can not update GS1 to ICS.
Just saw that so looks like anyone with a phone older than 2011 will have to resort to XDA for ICS which I think is disgraceful.
The Galaxy S is pretty much just a Nexus S without the NFC so no idea why Samsung won't at least update that one as well.
I am so happy I got rid of my Galaxy S2 and got a Galaxy Nexus.

Samsung Galaxy SIII

Hi, all,
For all of us who own a Samsung Galaxy SII now, the joy is wearing out since Samsung is coming up with... Galaxy SIII.
Motorola is launching this month, on January 26, the Razr Maxx - an awesome phone due to its HUGE battery power. One month later, Samsung would launch the Galaxy SIII. Below is a list of their specs (taken from the Internet so, I cannot promise is accurate):
Samsung Galaxy S3 vs Motorola Droid RAZR Maxx: How do They Stack up?
Motorola released its latest Smartphone, Droid RAZR Maxx, for Verizon Wireless at the recently concluded Consumer Electronics Show 2012 in Las Vegas and is rumored to be made available to customers by Jan. 26.
Droid RAZR Maxx is almost similar in specifications to the Droid RAZR and is designed for customers who spend their days and nights multi-tasking. The Motorola device had a Li-Ion 3300 mAh that should provide up to 21 hours of talk time and 368 hours of standby time.
The 4.3-inch smartphone would run on the Android 2.3.5 or Gingerbread OS and would be powered by a dual-core 1.2 GHz Cortex A9 processor with 1GB of RAM. The phone sports an 8 megapixel, 3264x2448 pixels unit autofocus, LED flash rear camera with 1080p video capture capabilities. The phone also has a 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera for video chatting and is expected to be available at Verizon for $299.99 on a two-year contract.
On the other hand, latest speculation suggests that Samsung would extend their flagship version of Galaxy S2 to Galaxy S3 and is expected to be launched during Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, Feb. 28.
Here is a comparison between Samsung Galaxy S3 and Motorola's Droid Razr Maxx.
Display:
RAZR Maxx has a 4.3-inch qHD 960 x 540 Super AMOLED Advanced display with Dupont KEVLAR fiber, a scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass and water-repellent nanoparticles.
Samsung Galaxy S3 is rumored to sport a 4.6-inch HD 1280 x 720 pixels Super AMOLED Plus capacitive touch-screen with 319 ppi density.
Operating System:
Droid RAZR Maxx runs on the Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread, with an upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich around the corner.
Galaxy S3 is expected to come with the Ice Cream Sandwich OS.
Processor:
Droid RAZR Maxx sports a dual-core 1.2GHz Cortex-A9 CPU, Texas Instruments OMAP 4430 chipset, PowerVR SGX540 GPU with 1GB RAM.
Galaxy S3 is rumored to feature a quad-core, Exynos 4212/ Exyos 5250, 2GHz/ 1.8GHz processor with 2GB RAM.
Camera:
Droid RAZR Maxx sports a rear-facing 8 megapixel camera with 1080p HD video capture capability.
It also has a 1.3 megapixel camera in the front for video calling. On the other hand.
Galaxy S3 is rumored to feature a 12 megapixel 4000x3000 pixels, LED flash camera with 1080p video capture and an additional 2 megapixel front-facing camera for video chats.
Connectivity:
Droid RAZR Maxx is touted as 4G LTE device running on Verizon's network.
Galaxy S3 is also expected to come with 4G LTE support.
WLAN/Bluetooth/USB:
Droid RAZR Maxx has 3.5mm jack+ EMU and supports USB 2.0 HS, Corporate Sync, DLNA, FOTA, Stereo Bluetooth Class 2, Version 4.0 LE+EDR.
Samsung Galaxy S3 would have Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, DLNA, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth version 3.0+HS along with microUSB MHL version 2.0 support.
Storage:
Droid RAZR Maxx phone has a fixed 16GB of internal storage, which is expandable via microSD card up to 32GB.
Galaxy S3 would have 16/32GB storage configurations and an external microSD card expandable up to 32GB.
Battery:
Droid RAZR Maxx has a whopping 3,300 mAh battery that is expected to give up to 21.5 hours of talk time and 380 hours standby time.
Galaxy S3 is expected to feature a 2250mAh battery
Other Features:
Galaxy S3 is expected to offer Near Field Communications (NFC) functionality as an option. It is also anticipated to feature the revolutionary wireless charging technology, which would help the device to not only charge the battery without the use of cables or plugs but also share, sync or back-up data at the same time.
2 ghz QUAD core processor with 2gb ram? Not a chance.
This is like the iPhone 5 rumours right before the 4S was announced lol no one knows anything until it's actually announced
I personally don't like people speculating and making rumors about phones and get everyone excited. My guess would be that 1/4 of this will be accurate. This would make it a better surprise if it is true =0
There is enough hate in the world. Why can't we all get along here ...?
This is totally different than the RAZR thing. Galaxy SII was announced almost a year ago but didn't arrive in the states until October. I assume the s3 won't be in the states until fall. Big difference
All these manufacturers need to stop coming out with new phones every ten minutes. Support and update the ones that they have would make more sense.

yeah. sry to burst bubbles but gs3 will only have a dual core but something like 2.0 or 2.2ghz. quadcores are about a year away. doesn't hurt to dream though.

I agree with you. but they won't stop doing this until we stop buying. and this won't happen. all about.money and this my friend is number 1 right now. communications will always lead in money. my dad founded one of the earliest cell phone companies ever (cellular one) and sold it to at&t in late 90s. I give him **** all the time because if he would of.kept.going wed be heavily rich and I wouldn't have to.dream bout phones all the time. well ...... as much.

Here is a random guess. Samsung announces SGS3 in March. It is released "world wide" in May or June... the US sees the first official release in about October.... I would be willing to consider buying a new phone then.

Umm, I disagree. They need to support their products better, yes, but I for one don't want to see HTC put out a phone that smokes my SGS2 just so I can get ICS and then Jelly bean while they go to quad core and get better battery life or something... Maybe unifying the devices (SGS2 for all, not skyrockets/hercules/epic touch/etc), but not just not coming out with products sporting the newest advances...

First of all, it is a rumor, none of us know for sure what the hw. spec. of the SGS3 will be, even the OS is bouncing between ICS and Tizen/Bada. No one knows.
From rumor to official announcement is a long time.
From announcement to release to customers hands is a very long time.
From release day to the fully support custom ROMs (if any) is a very very long time.
By that time, my contract should be expired and I will get a new one, maybe waiting a little more for SGS4 or SGS5
Conclusion, SGS2 owners have absolutely nothing to worry about.
It better have a god damn good DAC Else im Skiping SG III Like the SGII and Sticking with SGS
If its screen is over 4" I won't consider it. Maybe 4.3" if everything else is perfect. Must be 300ppi either way. No pen tile either.
RAM, Processor, and so forth are really immaterial.

Galaxy S III VS Galaxy Note?

Is there really any competition with these phones or does one blow away the other hands down?
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA Premium App
Well since we have no idea what the official specs of the SGS3 are we can't really say. All we have is rumors, but some of the thing we can be fairly certain about are the exynos quad processor, a 720p screen, an 8-10MP camera, and a screen size ranging from 4.5-4.8". The main difference will be the processor and the screen size. If you want a hybrid phone/tablet the note will be best, if you are looking for pure performance then the S3 will give you the best results. You can't say one will blow the other one out of the water without solid spec sheets and an idea of what you want in the phone.
I am excited for Thursday. I hope that we don't only hear about the SGS3, but maybe some intel on when the TMobile version of the Note will be released.
I am going for the Note. Buying an international version is not an option for me financially, so it rules out these quad-core processors, which are probably not needed right now anyway.
I am still using a TMobile G2, and it does everything I need it to do. It only has 1 core I am sure at like 800 mhz, though I am overclocking it right now due to the fact that it makes it easier to run. Either way, that processor can't be as nice a the Galaxy Note's dual-core 1.5 ghz processor.
Quad cores are just being used in desktop computers really, so it's no surprise that you shouldn't really NEED it for a phone. I don't know the official technicalities to backup my statement, but it seems common sense.
I will look forward to having the GNote specific applications, S pen, and screen real estate. Can't wait!
S3. Only reason to get Note over GS2 is screen/pen. Not worth it imo.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda premium
Not a fair competition at all. S3 should be compared to phones of the same calibre, like the HTC One X.
im sure someone will do a competition of these two phones. Even whitout the S3 full specs we all know who will win.
Quadcore is more than necessary for me
One phone!
HTC Evo Lte dual core s4 which is really fast.. It beats tegra 3 in some tests.

i think the SG S3 will be the same as the Note ( pen included ) but with a 4.6 screen
Each have their pluses and minuses. The GS3 will have the latest and greatest hardware and ICS out if the box, but the Note will have the bigger screen and S-Pen.
But seriously you're considering a phone already 6 months old vs a phone that will just be announced tomorrow. I love my Note and it has worked flawlessly for me, but I know after tomorrow it won't be the best hardware wise compared to the GS3. But that doesn't mean the Note is a slouch at all. The good thing though is I have my work phone with Sprint and my upgrade is June 30, so I may pick up the GS3, so best of both worlds!

..Can't wait for SIII
IiI can relate to the question I have a gsii and I really lobe the note. I will wait to deer what the new galaxy offers this weekend. I live near the brand new Samsung shop in Westfield next to the Olympic site and they reckon that the should have demo models this Saturday following the event tonight.
I only wish there were a gnote2 being announced. I love the idea of stylus
and big screen.
I have high expectations for GS3. Let's see what they have to offer for us today.
Anyway, I like my GS2 better than Galaxy Note already, so it seams clear to me that GS3 will also be better.
hummm, i like Galaxy S III better.
How do you like HUA WEI Ascend P1
BTW, I'm still waiting for media pad 10 fhd of HUA WEI
There will be quite a big difference according to the specs!
Well we will see at 7pm today
The SGS3 will be more popular than the Note, because the SGS3 is the direct concurrention of the HTC One X, iPhone etcetera.
If a phone gets really popular, you get extra things from the producer, like firmware upgrades etcetera.
Pick SGS3 after 7pm.
PS it is being expected the SGS3 will arive at the stores in approx 7 days
hahaha note vs a quadcore baby doesnt stand a chance find out today at 7:00pm GMT London time
according to leaked specs the s3 will have a 12mp camera a 4412 quadcore processor clocked at 1.5ghz
a mali 400(same as in the s2 just clocked much higher)
a 4.8 inch 720p HD regular RGB matrix not pentile
wireless charging (big maybe wuold be cool but unlikely)
2mp front cam
touchwiz bullcrap on android 4.0.4
a ceramic back
we all will know in few hours time ~~~ *wait patiently*
