[Q] Samsung Galaxy S II = Samsung Galaxy 2 - General Questions and Answers

A quick question, I stumbled over this "release date/roadmap" chart for Verizon,
ttp://smartphonecenter.info/wp-content/plugins/RSSPoster_PRO/cache/d8461_verizon-roadmap-spring2011110330143135.jpg
And I was wondering if the Samsung Galaxy 2 is suppose to be some new phone, or is just the Galaxy S II that currently is available elsewhere? I am just trying to find more information about the Galaxy 2 that the Verizon will have and to see if the video reviews for the "Galaxy S II" is something equivalent I should I expect.
Also, any opinions on going with a Samsung Android phones over the "more" popular HTC phones. I played around with some HTC phones, and those are nice...But considering Samsung can afford AMOLED...That's even a big plus since from the video reviews of the recent phones, the screens are gorgeous as ****.
Basically, "Samsung Galaxy S II" = "Samsung Galaxy 2"?

Horrible development communities for the Samsung devices. That alone is a deal-breaker for me. Not to mention how cheap they feel in your hand...

I have had both phones HTC and Samsung, I have found the hardware better put together than the HTC or Motorola. Originally I thought that the all plastic (quote cheap feel) was going to be too weak but, after having a phone for about a year it is really pretty resilient. That and 40% less weight is awesome. I could give a damn about Samsung software since i customize the phone and have done to all my phones. XDA is my update center not Samsung or HTC. So the S2 as of today has the best hardware to date and unless something changes that is the next phone I will be getting. Also, HTC is trying to lock the bootloader so you can't root the phone...... screw any company that tries to dictate what I do on MY phone ........... that in itself is the real deal breaker

Samsung Galaxy S II
Samsung Galaxy S II all the way. Screw HTC trying to lock up their bootloaders, that means I'm also locking HTC out of my wallet. Right now no phone on the planet compares to the S2. My only issue is that I want the thing to be released in the USA yesterday - on all networks.

Come on guys, you are missing the point. Yes, I understand that the Galaxy is a great phone...I am just trying to figure out if the one that will be released for Verizon under the name "Galaxy 2" will be the same as the "S II" or whatever is called.

[Q]LG P920 Optimus 3D vs Samsung GT-i9100 Galaxy S II 32GB

I'm trying very hard to work out if I should go after the LG Optimus 3D for $475, or the Samsung Galaxy S II for $600.
Both systems have their bonuses, and I plan to follow the great information here to unlock and root whichever phone I get.
The major difficulty though is choosing which phone, or if I should wait a little longer as there seems to be word that there will be some big phones coming out in September such as the IPhone 5. I don't want an Iphone, but from the buzz of that coming out, I wounder if that would be the choice time other really good phones will come out for good prices.
I read some websites that compare them (links below if they aren't blocked). But I still stuck on which I should get, or more so, if I should wait.
I was wondering if someone could give me an educated opinion as I lack in knowledge on smartphone tech.

I went for the Samsung Galaxy SII, the Samsung Galaxy is a lot more popular, easier to mod, and seems to be faster and more stable from what I found.

Good choice.

Time for a new Android, help needed?

I've put it off for as long as I could, but it's come time to put my trusty captivate to rest and get a new Android. I've been with AT&T for 2 yrs, and really don't have a preference on carrier and am willing to switch to Sprint or Verizon, just not T-Mob.
Due to Amazons crazy penny sale, and black Friday I thought now's the time and wanted to get some opinions on a few phones. As mentioned, I've been with my Galaxy S for 2 yrs and have loved every minute of it, and while one of the Galaxy SII variants is the obvious choice I've also been checking out HTC and a few of the other brands.
I loved my captivates screen... I'm rough on phones and it's held up to everything I've put it through; it also has great depth and is crystal clear even compared to my brothers Droid X2 much to his surprise lol. Dual Core is a must of course, and as far as updatability goes I'm sure I'll have it rooted and rom'd asap so I'm not that concerned with "Will it get ICS?" like some other folks will be. I've been rom'd since I got the Cliq ages ago, so no worries there
I guess I'd like to hear some opinions on whats best of the bunch with the Galaxy SII variants, and which other companies/phones are comparable to those in terms of power, etc... I'm not new to Android world by any means, but I've lived in my Samsung powered bubble for the past year or so which means I don't know squat about the new, and its overwhelming to take it all in.
Any help or advice would be appreciated, I figure once I can narrow the phones down a bit I'll start looking at carriers a little more and see who's got the best 2-line family plan.
Well for black friday (Boxing Day...or week here in canada) the Sprint SGSII is a great buy. But if you have that extra money to spend and if you dont need an SD Slot, get a Galaxy Nexus. It's Google's flagship phone after all.
in my opinion, the GSII on at&t is the best looking...thats why i have one
i'd say either the sprint to at&t version would be great, or a galaxy nexus, but in my opinion, i think the GSII with ICS in going to be a better phone than the galaxy nexus
The Nexus would definitely be on my list, but its not going to come out here for until December so it's out for now. HTC and LG are the only other two brands I'm looking at right now; I like the Razr, but had bad experiences with Motorola in the past, so I'm on the fence about that one...
LG is just as bad as moto, maybe even worse. look at the 2x. It's either sammy or HTC.
Being in Alaska, USA I have very limited choice on carriers. AT&T is the only "BIG One" up here.
I also have been using the Captivate and with various ROMs recently to keep things fresh. I to have been looking and I do love the Samsung screens but I might jump for once. Been debating with myself on another Samsung like Galaxy Nexus or the Sony Ericsson Arc S, unlocked only $380 and in various colors. SE did announce official ICS update for this phone.
Samsung, cuz it has the most awesome screens or HTC because of the overall quality. Don't think you can really go wrong with any of those 2
HTC Evo 3D 1.2 ghz dual core, HDMI out, Wimax and 3D movies, photos and video recording. Whilst its a lil gimmiky its Loads of FUN. Otherwise it sounds like one of samsungs latest offerings is the go.
What about Nokia N95, I heard it's an iPhone killer
Moved
I am going to be the LG-P930 troll that I am and say "LG-P930".
On a more serious note, I can show you anything about this phone.

well i was really impressed by the galaxy nexus but i didn't know it doesn't have micro sd slot n i dun like to be memory limited.
then i thought about the galaxy note but it doesn't have gorilla glass and some ppl r complaining that the screen got scratched so atm am so am w8ing for the galaxy s iii
Next high end 3.5-4" display phone... The ones nowdays are too big..
the next nexus (hopefully built by motorola mobility)
dunno yet, i am totaly pleased with my sgs (only cam sux), but maybe by the end of the year i will get a new phone
no clue which it will be, just know that it wont be an iphone or win7/8 phone
Looking forward for Galaxy S3

Probably sgs 3 when contract runs out at end of year

I find it difficult to decide, when phones are being released weekly, and I'm not out of contract until June. As I have an SGS and the SGSll is a considerable improvement, then providing the SGSlll lives up to it hype, there will be no contest.
my contract finished in december, and I couldnt decide if i wanted the s2 on a short 18month contract, and get the s3 or wait for the s3! Ended up deciding to wait for the S3. Would have gone for the galaxy nexus, but the lack of micro SD was a bit of a kick in the teeth!
As I'm not rich I'll just buy a new phone when this one breaks. I'm not into futurology so I don't know when that will happen (hope in a long long time) so neither what phones will be selling at that time. It will be something with Android though.
Like my signature says (already got the note for about 1 week).
After that (july(other contract runs out)) dunno what's on the market then.
I'll probably stick with the SGS for now and SGS III will be my next move - However I'm severly tempted to get myself a Galaxy Tab aswell.....
Android for sure, probably Samsung, and if things don't change too much it will be a Galaxy S series phone.
But my SGS it's like new, and I only buy new phones when the old one breaks, so it could be a long time until my next phone.
i think my next phone will be Samsung Galaxy s III , i have galaxy s 1 and i think that the III is the best choice price / performance !!!!
For the SGS3 i hope it will have a 4.9" Super Amoled Plus HD with ICS Software Buttons. Seems like a reasonable size though i know they will probably make it smaller, not everyone has big hands. Of course i wish quadcore also... And i wish for TouchWiz 5.0 that doesn't include bloat, just necessary additions to stock and small UI refinements.
I hope for a good GPU, too... (Powning everything else)
I am really thinking to buy a Nexus S, but I am not sure cause the SGS2 is also a "beast"
I am waiting to see SGS III.

Probably S2, but not in the near future.
I think an Galaxy S III.
I love my Galaxy s.

Is it worth getting the new Galaxy 3?

I have the Vibrant, I'm using an ICS ROM. 4.0.4.
I don't use my phone for a lot of web browsing, more or less social things and games. I'm sort of sore on flashing new ROM's though I LOVE exploring them all!
For people already using a Galaxy, what would be your pro's and con's?
I've looked into the phone and it sounds amazing, dual-core snapdragon, stock 4.0.4, it looks to be as big as the Galaxy s II and a nice AMOLED screen.
Has anyone used one of these guys yet? How do you like it? Does it live up to your expectations?
There are some fantastic new features. A colleague tried one for an hour last weekend and his questions to me was 'why can't we have these at work' we currently have S2's

I really like the whole "Sharing" thing between Galaxy III's.
Did your work pay for the S2's? That's very nice of them!
I wasn't impressed enough (compared to my Vibrant.) to spend the extra money upgrading an S2, but the SIII really has my attention.
I'm contemplating it very hard. Through my carrier I think it's going to be $280 before extra fee's though..that's pricey especially since the first I paid $250 and received a $50 MIR. :/
Coming from a Vibrant..definitely should upgrade. If you had an S2 or something comparable, it wouldn't be worth it unless you could get a really good deal.
Thank you lowandbehold. I feel a tad better about my wants. I was hoping it wasn't just because it was new. The hardware upgrades them self already make my giddy/
Although the Galaxy III is a killer in terms of performance and software features, which make it highly desirable especially for people who have an old smartphone, you should also take the upcoming iPhone 5 into consideration.
Another phone worth checking out is the HTC one X. Although not superior in performance compared to the GIII, it has a lot of notable features and shoots photo's fast due to it's fast camera processor.

Though the camera supports 1080P at 30FPS on the Samsung Galaxy S3 while the HTC One X doesn't. I would say get the Galaxy S3, the iPhone screen just seems tiny to me after having the Galaxy S3 since launch.
The iPhone 5 might be worth waiting out for if you have the patience to wait. Apparently Foxconn's CEO said the next iPhone "will put Samsung’s Galaxy III to shame."

Lol, doubt it
Thank you for your suggestion, however I am not an iPhone person and I don't believe T-Mobile will be getting the iPhone5. Or at least there's no official word on it. Just hopeful reports of people stating that 'It could happen! Maybe..'
I just love the android's platform and it's lack of boundaries. I've also heard rumor of some Android's having a "Flash Counter" that count the number of times you've actually flashed the phone, and because of it the warranty won't be active. (Like the Galaxy Note supposedly has one.) I could also be wrong since I haven't looked into this. On that note, I don't believe they'll be implementing this feature into the SnapDragon CPU's. However correct me if I'm wrong! I'm very much a phone newbie.
My friend owns a One X while another has the new Razr Maxx.
Since they aren't brand new I'm curious as to switching to those guys..it would be cheaper however have the same quality as the S3?
I've been with Samsung for 8 years now and they haven't let me down.
So loyalty stays with Samsung for their phones.

[Q] [DISCUSSION] Nexus 5 or Galaxy S3? (As daily driver, KitKat)

Alright, so I'm getting a new phone this summer (or Christmas) and I can't decide between the Galaxy S3 and the Nexus 5. The Galaxy S3 is 100€ cheaper but the Nexus 5 is the newer and more supported. I'm looking for a phone that can be my daily driver and possibly take good photos and video, although I'm not really looking for amazing quality. I'm used to low end smartphones like the Galaxy Pocket (God that thing was a nightmare) and Galaxy S Duos (this one is a bit better but JESUS IT SUCKS AS WELL-- only sometimes).
I don't want TouchWiz no matter how much "faster" and "more beautiful" it is, because I know that Samsung only makes it go fast for about a month and then BOOM it's slow as heck for no reason. If I get the Galaxy S3, I'm gonna flash a KitKat ROM on it.
