[Q] AT&T - What to do? - General Questions and Answers

First off, thanks for reading my thread. I'm currently stuck in a bit of a dilemma. I'm 14 years old so I don't really have flexibility when it comes to other carriers - I'm stuck with my families AT&T family plan. I completely broke my iPhone 3G by having it in my football bag on an away game. When I took out my phone to check my messages it had somehow been badly cracked starting from the home button and extending to about half-way up the phone. The home button is unusable. I've been hiding this from my parents because if they saw it they'd surely make me go get a phone at that moment. I've been making excuses of why I wasn't answering my Mom's texts and calls but that can only go on for so long. Here is my current ideas, but I'm also open to new ones:
1. Grab the HTC Vivid
Pros -
High(er) screen resolution
HTC Sense UI (big pro to me)
HTC build quality
LTE
Confirmed 4.0
Cons -
Underclocked Snapdragon processor
qHD inferior to other screens
2. Grab the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket
Pros -
SAMOLED+
LTE
Confirmed 4.0
Cons -
Low resolution by today's standards
Snapdragon processor
3. Grab the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II
Pros -
SAMOLED+
Exynos
Confirmed 4.0
Cons -
No LTE
Low resolution by today's standards
4. Get the iPhone 4S
Pros -
Pixel density
Premium build quality
My Dad is a giant "Macfag" so he will approve this purchase
Cons -
I don't want iOS
Small screen
5. Wait until the HTC Rezound (my current choice of the big 3), Galaxy Nexus, Droid RAZR comes to AT&T
Pros -
720p screens (except for the RAZR)
TI OMAP
Confirmed 4.0 or 4.0 pre-loaded
Various perks like Beats
Rezound has Sense 3.5
Cons -
May not come to AT&T for a long time and my time is running out
6. Grab one of the first 3 mentioned phones and pray that one of the new 3 come out in the 30-day exchange window
As you can see I am in quite a dilemma. Sorry for the long post and thanks for reading.

Well the RAZR won't be coming to AT&T and the Nexus could be awhile. I would go with skyrocket if LTE is important to you. The T-Mobile Galaxy S2 has the snapdragon processor and hands on reviews cannot see a difference in performance. Plus you can always root it and overclock it. If LTE is not a huge factor, I would go with the regular Galaxy S2.

At the moment LTE is zero use to me since I live in the Philadelphia area where AT&T has no reaching LTE towers and I'm not sure until how long it will be of use to me but I think within my 2 year contract it could become a good deal. Also, are you saying the SGSII Skyrocket is better than the HTC Vivid?

I'm all ready pretty sold on Android, just included the iPhone in my options because it won't become directly out-dated soon.

I just saw that HTC phones are optimized for Snapdragon and Samsung phones are optimized for Exynos/Hummingbird. Is that true?

[Q] Best Android Device to date?

What's the best android device to date? I am looking to switch from AT&T to another network and I want a kickass phone.
Should I wait to buy a new phone (next month or two) or should I take the plunge now? I am also looking for a network that tends to carry kick ass phones. I hate AT&T, and would prefer a CDMA network.
Thanks!
I personally think that the Samsung Galaxy S ( either one) is arguably the best but that's because I like how the Captivate and Epic 4G look (Vibrant is too iPhonish imo) but the Droid X and Evo may or may not be better based on preference. If it means anything at all, I find the quality of HTC phones better, just my experience w/ them.
For speed definatley the galaxy s for screen/gpu id go for galaxy s for software I think nexus because it's googles and they'll keep it do date so it depends in what areas

cant we just root and add our own software.. ?
The Epic 4G on Sprint is by far the best Android phone.
Next in line are the Droid Incredible on Verizon and the Samsung Galaxy S family and, if the size doesn't bother you, the Evo 4G.
For the most part, if it's a feature phone, there's a good argument to buy it. They all have their own pro's and con's. You got to ask whats important to you.
(S)AMOLED or LCD, 3.7", 4", 4.3", any skin preferences, keyboard or no keyboard, is a kicking gpu important to you, etc.
i say, droid incredible. htc makes navigating android easy; nice camera; fairly good sized screen; fast 1 ghz; already rooted, nand unlocked. and many more. its not too big, not too small. its just a good evened out phone
EVO hands down. After having a 4.3" screen I can't imagine using anything smaller, in fact my next phone I'm thinking 5" !!

HTC Legend is by far the best looking. The small size makes it a 'true' smartphone imo, rather than a big pda (like iphone, desire ect.) The alu-case gives it a quality feel. Many of my iphone friends look at its beauty in envy ;-)
However it doesnt have hi-res screen, insane clock-freq and its not subject to all the attention.
But we, the users of the Legend,
We love it.

[Q] Which T-Mobile Android Phone

So I'm trying to decide on which T-Mobile phone to get hopefully next week. I had the Nexus One and it broke so for the moment I'm stuck with a blackberry and not happy with it at all.
I'm deciding on either between the Nexus S or the HTC Sensation. Any help from you guys on deciding which one to get would be great.
Also, if there is any other phone you might think would be great, let me know.. I'm planning on rooting it and everything
HTC Sensation 4G definitely. Personally, I love Sense, but even if you don't, the hardware is great, and I believe there are already a good number of AOSP ROMs for it. (and it has a front facing camera)
if you plan on modding it, then i would consider the community size for each phone.
the sensation has a slightly bigger community then the nexus s (how do i know? just go to forum.xda-developers.com and compare the stats for the phones)
id say you should wait for the samsung galaxy s II
I would recommend the HTC Sensation. This is a great phone with Sense 3.0 already on it. There is some great development for custom ROMS on this phone. And if you don't like Sense then you can drop an AOSP ROM on it and eliminate it. I think the Sensation gives you the best of both worlds, Sense and AOSP.
Here are some excellent choices:
-Samsung Dart
-Samsung Gravity
-Optimus T
-Wildfire S
-Samsung exhibit
-Moto Defy
-Moto Cliq 2
-Samsung Behold
-G2
Here are some high-quality Android phones that feature a great price point, these phones are good for normal usage. They pack quite the punch, though not the same punch as a Sensation, but still punch none the less. When accompanied by a 200MB Data plan, 500Min, and Unl Txt, this combinations leads to large savings and a good Android experience. If you remove txt you'll save yourself even more money per month, don't let the these not so high-end phones scare you off. They have good reviews from users and you should consider one of the above, they'll help you appreciate android even more, and the phones have .6-1GHz cores, with HVGA, causing slick and smooth performance. These Socs are handy for lite usage, their Accelerated GPUs are good for games like Angry birds if that's what you like, web browsing could be on par with the Sensation. Which from some people I've heard the browser is not as snappy due to no HW accel being enabled. Please carefully pick your next phone, if you don't wait for ICS.

Don't buy anything that has been on the market for more than 4 or 5 months because it will be so underpowered by your next upgrade you will hate it for the last year of your contract. If you are on TMO and don't get the Sensation, you have a problem. I would pick up that phone in a heartbeat if I could get it on my carrier.
Thanks guys and I"m thinking about getting the Sensation.. or save my $$$ and wait for the new google phone?? Nexus Prime??
galaxy s2 is coming out...
It's hard to find a phone that will tie you over for a while. I've been rocking my Nexus S, unknown to the fact that Wifi Calling was the ONLY thing missing from it...after trying out a friend's G2 and using Wifi Calling in the basement, it's drastically changed my view on a lot of the T-Mobile lineup.
I've been disappointed with T-Mo's decision to equip their variant of the Galaxy S II with a snapdragon instead of the exynos, and it may be an uphill climb to get decent rom/dev support (mind you, this is speculation and may not be a hindrance at all). I've been looking at the Sensation, but I'm not entirely convinced it's the end-all be-all. I could be COMPLETELY wrong, but I'm not seeing its potential just yet.
Nexus Prime will be an ideal choice, but I will strongly look at more 'branded' phones due to the invaluable wifi calling ability.
I hate hard decisions

that post really read like a bad craigslist ad..
the G2, the cliq 2, the defy, and the exhibit are all legitimately great phones, if you don't want the latest pick the sensation, sell it new in box, and buy one of these on craigslist.
if you're going prepaid and can't spend more than $150, then the wildfire s or optimus t new..
suggesting the Behold especially is outright crazy.
I very much enjoy the versatility of the htc sensation 4g with the Android Revolution HD 3.6.11 rom.

[Possible?] Samsung Galaxy S II HD to hit U.S.?

I absolutely love our phone and have zero complaints about the screen as it is freaking amazing.
I knew about Samsung releasing it's Super AMOLED HD screen since word first hit an article in a Korean newspaper in Seoul. Since then it has been lingering on in the back of my head..."Our phone w/ HD resolution? How cool would that be..."
Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, 16M colors
Size 720 x 1280 pixels, 4.65 inches (~316 ppi pixel density)
So I'm thinking...when will it reach us? Do you think they'll release in a similar fashion to how TM released the regular Galaxy, then Galaxy 4G?
Curious and can't wait to get my hands on one.
Are you sure you are not talking about the GNex? lol
We're always slow at getting great phones like this especially if you want a subsidized version.
If I had to guess I would say June/July.
#Havingablast w/ my SGS2
the SGS2 HD is already on sale in Korea
i'm sure you can easily ask friends from over there to send you one
if you wait for them to become available here in America on their own, you're looking at at least summer 2012
by the SGS3 is already out
Doesn't the the HD SGS2 use the Snapdragon S3 SoC? If so, you are better off with a Galaxy Nexus.
I heat good things about the Nexus.

I'm not so sure about this, because there are three versions:
HD (korea only for now)
LTE
HD LTE (korea only as well)
I've seen Exynos and Snapdragon for the ones with HD moniker, but I think the S3 version is for the LTE one. GSMArena has specs that conflict with what is on the Samsung wiki, and I haven't seen any non-Korean reviews of it.
.
Moved to proper section, please read the rules before posting.
screen resolution??
Just bought a Galaxy s2 for wife and Sensation 4g for me-replacing my rooted HD2.
streaming video (netflix etc) seems MUCH clearer on my HD2 (NAND running hyperdroid).
Also HD2 seems to load web pages faster and better wifi reception, AND battery life!
Is a ROOTED HD2 really better than a stock Galaxy 2s or Sensation 4G?
I want to exchange either the Sensation or Galaxy 2s under my 14 day trial period, after I determine which I like best. Im actually liking the Sensation better than Galaxy!???
Advice?

Excuse my ignorance on this - but why would the phone have gone through the FCC last month if it wasn't going to be released stateside soon?
(I can't post links yet, but just google HD LTE FCC and you'll see a number of posts)
Definitely would as I have tons of contact there, however...
Doesn't T-Mobile run on 1700MHz and 2100MHz?
Not sure if the HD device in Korea has 1700MHz...hhmmm if so, GAME ON! It would just be a phone call away.

[Q] Which Phone To Get

Okay I'm selling my iPhone 4s and am going to get somewhere
Between $600-$800 I am really missing android and I need a new
Phone I'm on AT&T and want to obviously get a gsm phone and that's
Android and I want it to be dual-core and have a decent development
Community what I have already looked at is
•HTC Vivid
•AT&T Galaxy S2
• GSM Galaxy Nexus
I want my phone to be top of the line for awhile till I get a new android
In August or a iPhone 5.
Any Suggestions?
HTC Sensation or HTC Vivid are the best phones atm in my opinion
Get the Galaxy Nexus. The Vivid won't see ICS for quite some time.
I have checked and, the best is the Nexus and the SAMSUNG GALAXY S 2 II SKYROCKET, i will get the skyrocket.
Well I'm worried than the exynos processor
In gs2 is far superior to the Qualcomm in the
Skyrocket in terms of power management and
Speed

[Q] "best" verizon android phone? (switching from verizon)

Hey All,
I realize that everyone has their own idea of best, but hopefully a little background.
I am switching from sprint to verizon, and currently have an epic 4g touch ( galaxy S II ).
I'm looking for something comparable on verizons side, that has decent rom support ( Cyanogen would be a huge plus ). a stock ICS update doesnt matter that much, as I'd be installing a custom rom anyway.
My only other requirement is that it has good support, both on xda, and possibly IRC, so the random quesiton that needs asked can be answered..
I dont use a phone for the camera, so it doesnt need a 20000 MP camera with auto everything..
So, what phones would fit this bill? Having never used verizon before, I am not as up to speed on them vs sprint. The newer the phone the better
For a new phone I would go with the Bionic. Killer specs compared to the GNex but way cheaper. Looking at it myself to upgrade from an Incredible.
Verizon has a great selection of phones (I recently applied for a job interview there so I studied up on their products)
I'll list the top few in the 4G world and their selling point. You can look up how big the community is for that phone.
HTC Rezound is top dog in speed. It features a 1.5 GHz Qualcomm processor which is the best and fastest from any verizon phone.
Galaxy Nexus is the newest and has an amazing screen and display. It blows all the other phone displays out of the water. When you have an image up with black in it, the pixels where the black is on the screen turn off giving you a true black which I think is so cool.
Droid Bionic features an HDMI port which is a plus over other 4G phones. It's fairly recent and up to date with a dual core processor so it can handle more/less the same way as the the top two.
Droid Razr is simply praised for it's sleekness, style and thinness. Other than that it is pretty much the same specs as the Bionic without the HDMI
Finally we have the first 4G phone - the HTC Thunderbolt - single core processor so not as fluid as the others, but it's affordable. I'm using a Thunderbolt and started rooting last month. Started out with cm7 and recently switched to MIUI. community isn't all that big but there is a lot of support and new ROMS are developing daily.
DON'T get the Charge. It feels cheap. No updates. Barley any support.
And If you hate yourself get an iPhone
I have the Bionic and its AWESOME but in a few weeks Motorola and Verizon are releasing the Droid RAZR MAXX and that is the phone I would go with.

My .02
I have owned the rezound, the charge and the thunderbolt.
Very briefly so you would not fall asleep while reading this:
I love HTC radio chips because their line of phones ( thunderbolt and rezound) are the only one capable of surf and talk on 3g. Until Verizon replaces all their 3g network with 4g i think thats an amazing feature for these reasons :
a- I used google talk for my text and it relies on data. So if i am on a phone call, I will not be able to receive texts or voice mails ( which saves me mad $) until i get off the phone.
B- I use my phone for every day gps use ( since i am in a different state every other month) and a lot of the times on the highways there is no 4g , just 3g signal. So if i get lost, my google gps will not reroute successfully if i am on the phone until i get off the phone, which is very inconvenient .
Only with these two phones ( the tbolt and the rezound ) you can surf and talk on 3g.
Now the tbolt vs rezound.
LIke ppl mentioned tbolt is older and a single core with slower kind of ram and smaller too ( 750 ddr vs 1 gb ddr2)
Rezound is a speed demon.
Problem is , thunderbolt was the first 4g device and was also unlocked from htc so the devolpment for it was phenomenal ( now it feels like it has came to a screeching halt.)
Rezound was surrounded by so much drama and the few developers that bought it were turned off from the childish behaviors of the community and left the phone, we literally have 4 developers, which makes me really sad. I wish i can get these developers to come back, but nothing i can do now.
the nexus only avantage is its developing reminds me of the tbolt when it first came out, you have literally a buffet full of choices, but bear in mind, if you do decide on samsung or anything else, you lose the 3g surf and talk ( i know i am beating that point to death)
I have so many other points but i feel like this is becoming an essay , so if you need more clarification, ask away !
Being the best Verizon phone is like winning gold at the special olympics.
