i just started using my 16gb wifi gnote a couple of days ago. i noticed 2 things about the data usage panel in settings:
1) according to this, gmail has downloaded 460MB in a few of hours... i have set up 3 gmail accounts. but still this number seems inordinately high!
2) it hangs if you try to access it when wifi is on. this is usually followed by the "settings has stopped working" message.
anyone else facing this?
thanks.

Hello everyone,
I'm using HTC Desire S (Android 2.3.3). I've been having a weird problem lately. When my screen goes off, I stop getting notifications after 10 minutes or so. I've never experienced such a problem before. My phone was running smoothly. I used to get notifications from Whatsapp even when my phone was on sleeping mode... I started not to get notifications from any application unless I turn the screen on and wait for 5 minutes or directly click on the application wait for it to establish connection with my mobile data. I guess my mobile data dies when my phone is on sleeping mode or something. I'm not sure though because my mobile data connection is always on but somehow applications lose connection with my mobile data until my phone wakes up. Can you help me with that? I've installed an application called Juice Defender awhile ago but I deleted it since it messed up my phone. I also tried to reset my phone but still no luck... Is there anything I can do?
Thanks
do you use "Juice Defender" ?
if so, try to disable it... i had the same problem (with other device... not the Desire S) and it been solved by disabling "Juice Defender"
Not sure what could be causing that if it persists after a factory reset.
Have you looked at using Tasker instead of juice defender? I also found juice defender quite buggy, and it was in searching for an alternative that I found tasker. I think it has a free trial period. Instal a plugin called synker. Your can then set tasker to periodically force a sync of your accounts. My profile forces a sync for
2 minutes every 15 minutes, then turns auto sync off (if my screen is off). Works well and saves battery too.
Taker is quite tricky to get used to, so if you struggle, get those two installed then send me a PM and I'll send you the tasker profile. Import it and your problem will be solved!
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda premium
ive had a simaliar issue
wifi and data go off randomly when in sleep mode
im on stock 2.3.5 and not rooted
no juicedefender apps
On my DS after the phone is left asleep overnight - I never turn it off as it's my alarm clock - I frequently get "NO SERVICE" and have to reboot.
Never got to the bottom of it either....
So for the last week or two, my Watchdog app keeps prompting me that "Bluetooth Share" is using too much CPU. It started as once or twice a week, but it's just gone off 10 times in the last couple of hours. I'm not running any programs that should be trying to share anything via bluetooth. I even tried turning bluetooth off, and it still popped up a while later. Also, if I use watchdog to kill the app, it won't connect to my car bluetooth until I reboot. Anyone else have this issue, or offer any suggestions on how to figure out what's causing this? Thanks.
Oh, I'm rooted and running Serendipity.
I got my daughter her tab 7.7 about 6 months ago & had been going on perfectly. Android version is 3.2 & I have no easy measures to update for the time being.
For internet connection she uses only my WiFi secure connection. It was working fine all this time.
Today she can't log to her Facebook account via the Facebook app. I checked it out to find that I can log in via the browser but not the app. I thought it may need updating and tried Google play store but I was astonished to find it not working too as it gives me "No Connection. Try again".
I noticed that the WiFi mark is white & not showing the green strength marks, but connection is confirmed by the WiFi name. I was shocked when I tried the software update from "about" when it gave me the "no connection message" despite working WiFi connection. Samsung app is working perfectly & I can update its applications.
Also funny thing happened, when I tried the browser it kept giving me certificate errors many times.
I tried the VPN as I googled around but nothing changed. Same problem.
Switching off & on didn't help either.
Any Clues??
Thanks
Most strange thing happened.
Everything is back to normal without me doing anything.
I left the tab for a while while writing the previous post.
When I came back I found the app update mark showing up, I turned on the WiFi & touched the update icon, the strength signal showed in the WiFi & update started the goggle app. All went normally. Facebook app worked & even the browser certificate errors disappeared. The software update in the "about" worked fine & checked & found no updates.
What is going on...
Can anyone explain to me what's happening?
Thanks

Try Power Cycling your modem/router. That often corrects connection issues. Presume other devices were connecting just fine?
Hi,
I'm using an XT897 CM11 lightly. I update directly from stock rom. I'm satisfied but i have one big problem.
Whatsapp, Hangouts, GMail etc it is syncronizing very late when my screen it is turned off (The option "Turn off data connection when the screen is off" it is disabled). I'm receiving the messages/emails but after some time can be also 1 hour.
This is happening on Wi/Fi and Mobile Data ! For battery life i'm using 2G/GPRS
Some ideas ?
Try updating ROM at

So I unlocked my boot loader and went crazy flashing everything from radios to logos to a ported 4.2.2 (thanks topsnake) and all was good untill a few days ago. All of a sudden i would lose data and call reception my bars would go grey with the circle with a line symbol on it. It would then turn back on then off then on, you get the point. Then it would be fine for a while bit start all over again.
So I fxz'd and started from scratch no dice still happening. I go to Verizon and got a new sim still happening. I just about smashed my phone when I tried Google one more time and found an obscure post in the nexus 5 board here at xda. Seems they have had this problem before but it was do to the sim tray or so they thought. One member ran a log cat and tracked down the culprit. It as a widget of all things transparent clock and weather. It seems this widget when updating location information using only GPS location (there is an option to turn off) deactivates your sim card. It's like turning airplane mode on then off over and over until it finishes the update.
I unchecked use GPS for location and no more restricted access changed messages. Hope this helps anyone with this problem there may be other apps out there causing this issue or it may be an issue with kk I don't know. The frequency of the problem is determined by the duration that you have set the app to update. I had it set for every 15 min. So it was driving me nuts. If you see this every few hours you may have it at a greater duration.
Very nice. Port is 4.4.2 lol. You still running it?

Actually not yet I thought it may have been when I installed your port so I went back to stock. But now that I know what caused it and you ironed all the little bugs I'm going to flash again tomorrow.
Sounds good!

I got the same problem today, for the first time on my Droid Maxx. Usually I do not reboot the Maxx for a long time, but due to recent rooting activities, the uptime was not much. And suddenly a few minutes ago, I saw the "Restricted Access Changed" message for the very first time.
I can see there are many users with the same issue on other Motorola phones in India, though. So this appears to be something common for Motorola.
I tried the GPS settings and it did bring the network back. I also tried selecting the other mode (default is Global) and select my service provider from the list, but registration failed. Finally I rebooted the device and the network came back. So, I am right now observing.
