Which one would you choose? Both are around the same price on the used market.... The issues resolved and the plastic shell of the 300 will not get scratched, wifi seems fine, the 201 has a better screen and gorilla glass so it might not break as easily, what do you guys thinkg?
The prime... I bought the tf300 for 470$ just formthe bt3 and ddr3 and i made a mistake.... Tf201 lighter, aluminiun, and better in benchmarks...

* aluminum: weak gps/wifi. this is a really big problem of tf201
* a few hundreds difference in benchmark score doesn't mean anything in Android nowadays.
- However, the screen on Tf201 is so much better than tf300. Much brighter and much colorful.
- BTW,all asus transformer devices have a serious problem with potential I/O bottleneck , which causes lagging, slow response when using web browsers. Pretty annoying to me.

How did you price match it and get it for $350? What did you price match it too? I'm trying to get a transformer for my dad for his birthday and if I can get the tf700 for that price it'd be great!

If you like game emulators like N64, Psx and MAME reloaded, the Infinity is slower than the TF300, so I prefer the TF300. The higher res display using the same gpu has some drawbacks.
A far as the sale, you lucked out, since Best Buy policy is to only match local stores and if in stock.
Good for you!

it is pretty common knowledge that it takes more power to run a higher resolution...wether you will actually notice it during game play is up to the individual user...and something as simple as NES/n64 emulators shouldn't be much different...now something like shadowgun, or dead trigger...there you may notice a slight difference...but IMO, the higher res screen is soooo much better for 90% of what you do on a tablet it is worth the trade-offs

yup, i haven't gotten the ANR message since JB...but the problem is still there...just much less obvious. hoping it is 100% software related and ASUS can get it completely taken care of with another update or 2.

Compared with a store demo and seen enough. The result logically fits the fact there are 150% more pixels to push data to with the 700.
N64oid, Fpse and MAMEReloaded all have the option to leverage the gpu and this is where the 700 is slower.
Test for yourself. I can not be bothered to test again, since sticking with the 300 until a gpu is designed to better deal with higher res when pushing data to higher re displays.

So testing it in a store for a couple hours give you conclusive evidence that the tf300 outperformes the tf700... based off third party emulators that have yet to be updated to fully optimize the tf700 and its capabilities. Man you have a lot to learn about how to review devices and make accurate judgment calls on what's good and what's not. Until you sit down and own the device for a couple days, testing its parameters against that of the tf300 at cold boot, extended running time, while other processes are up and overclocked then you should not be stating that it outperforms...just saying.

Stock to stock devices, the T700 is slower with the emulators mentioned, when the gpu option is activated in the apps. Testing beyond the 90 minutes tested will not change that.
If you do not use those emulators or lower priority, the 700 is fine. Since I already have an iPad 3 64GB for my high res fix, the T300 is a better for for me for its main function, game emulators.
There is a reason the iPad 3 has a big a$$ gpu in it and that is to efficiently handle the display. Considering I have been working with computers since the Voodoo FX days, I know a little bit about gpu function.
The 700 is a fine device, but the gpu is better suited for 1280x800 displays, if the app leverages the gpu.

Seeing as on both the Tegra 3 in the TF700 and the A5X in the New iPad are both SoC processors, size of the GPU should be measured as the total die size of the chip.
The Tegra 3 has a die size of ~80mm2, where as the AX5 has a die size of 163mm2, resulting in the AX5 actually being at least 2.0375 times the size of the Tegra 3.
So your comment suggesting "the gpu on the tf700 is 3 times the size of the ipad3" is simply incorrect.

Give Asus a couple weeks and the bugs should be fixed. They already came onto the forums saying that they were fixing the microSD issues, and the I/O issue shouldn't be too far behind. If you don't like it, return it, no one is forcing you to like this device.

In Norway its about 1000$ with the dock and 830$ without it
Same here, 64GB w/dock was the only option available and it was €720.
I bought the 64gb model from Amazon for $699 and the dock for $164 from Amazon marketplace seller and received a 201 dock instead with a sticker on it saying for 700 and 201 models. I could have bought a 201 dock for less. I feel a bit deceived.

Ray3andrei,
If you read your first post yourself, and try and do so with a unopinionated eye, wouldn't you come to the same conclusion -- it's not exactly clear you like the tablet, you feel cheated, it's not worth the money, you have a phone that is smoother (so do I, but that's comparing pumpkins to cherries in terms of hardware requirements).
No one can decide for you whether you should keep it, or to return it (or sell it off), but judging from your posts, I'd strongly suggest you to buy a less capable but smoother tablet instead of the TF700. You'll be far happier with it, have money to spare and get a beer for (or something else if you so desire).
As far as I am concerned, the recent reports of drastic improvements of I/O and UI feel with JB have urged me to wait and see if things are fixed. I welcome any user who finds new issues to please report in, but for now, the whine posts (the dataless rants that never bring anything to these forums in terms of solutions or fixes anyway) must stop. There is a time to lay down some pressure, and there is a time to let it slide a bit.
In my opinion, it's time to let it slide a bit. Just my $0.02 -- please feel free to disagree. (I realize I am just as opinionated on the subject, but antagonistic. No need to point that out.)
Guys, you have to see this...

So, Iv'e ordered a tf700 and can pick it up in the store tomorrow. But after reading all the problems with multitasking and browsing I'm having second thoughts...

what Multitasking and Browsing issues?
I read that while downloading torrents for example multitasking often would suffer... and many have complained about browser performance, right?
Are you satisfied with your infinity? Seing as it is maybe the premium android tablet right now, does it perform as such?
before the update i did not have this issue, and i do not have it now. i use atorrent to download files, i just downloaded a couple a little while ago. I had no problem. While they were downloading, i was still browsing the web and moving files. I use Dolphin HD as my main browser and have not had any issues with it. I prefer it over all the other browsers.
Ok, well, I think I'll take the plunge but will sleep on it...
Do you have any experience with other tablets?
anyway hanks for your input!
Cheers
Just a 5 minutes ago I finished showing my dad why I prefer an Android (and FHD) tablet over his iPad 2, he admitted he's using it only for browsing and e-mails and it would be great to have all the possibilities. He's thinking of getting himself a Win8 tablet sometime in the end of the year, but at least he won't have another iPad (which he got in a company, happily).
After yesterday's update I don't have "multitasking issues", as you called it, any more... and actually, what multitasking exactly are you going to have on an iPad? ;D

Most of the io issues are better now, that said it all depends on what you want it for. Its not going to perform like a mid-high end laptop. The only reason I upgraded from tf101 is the screen which is gorgeous.
For most people a good tegra 2 tablet is enough.
Just curious, why do you prefer it to the ipad2, what are your arguments?

Original transformer = still getting updates
Prime = crap but still getting updates, tho i dont know why people would still keep it when most cases they can upgrade to 700
300 = ok, lots of people have it, getting updates
Asus is very bad for QA, slow for customer service, but one thing they are damn good at is supporting products they make with updates well after they come out. And even after Asus stops giving updates for this tablet i think its got enough people behind it that the community will continue to contribute.
Probably doesn't matter a whole lot if asus moves on.
Seems to me there will be tons of customization as this model matures.
Just browse thru the millions of posts on the whole of XDA.
Folks are still tweaking 2 year old phones and tablets.
Heck the wife and me usually go about 2 years on tablets and 3 years on laptops.

why would they abandon it so soon? If they announce another tablet, would you buy it? Given that you already know how quickly they abandon devices?

Having owned a TF Prime, Infinity, and now the Nexus 7 the 7 is a surprisingly capable tablet.
Although Asus has it's fair share of build quality issues my Prime was rock solid and it was the 1st batch (pre-order) to boot. However I like many Prime owners took the Best Buy loophole and got an Infinity as a replacement since Asus discontinued the Prime even though they said they wouldn't. The Infinity has a noticeably crisper display, better color representation, as well as some better pre-installed apps like the stock browser and keyboard when compared to the Nexus 7. Despite this if you are willing to give up 3" of screen real estate the Nexus 7 is a much more polished tablet and has increased mobility, as a guy I can still fit it in my jean pocket.

That's not really the point though. ASUS has effectively sold me a high end sports car that can only go 25mph on the highway. Looks and sounds impressive. Drives like A$$

Spot on, the Nexus 7 is the opposite in that it looks like a cheap, crappy car but it's been tuned out the a$$. The Nexus 7 not only uses a weaker version of the Tegra 3 but also uses slower ram than the Infinity but doesn't suffer from the same I/O and "browser not responding" issues, its amazing what optimization can do.
They are no stopping support for this tablet.... that is just silly. Like others have said, just check out their previous track record with their older devices.

Just a little backstory, when the TF300 came out, I purchased one for my mom. Couple months later, TF700 came out so I picked that up for myself. Now as we all know, the TF700 has some sort of issue with the onboard flash memory which renders this tablet sluggish at times when reading/writing (like in the case of updating apps for example) but I think the TF300 is affected as well.
What I've noticed is, messing around on my mom's TF300, her tablet is butter smooth on stock firmware/rom. My TF700 was very sluggish when I installed JB firmware, which led me to having to go custom rom (CROMI 3.2 atm) in order to make it more usable. Has anyone else experienced the performance difference between a TF300 vs their TF700? It's just rather odd that a TF300, being of lower spec CPU wise, would run that much smoother than a TF700. Now CROMI has made my user experience much more pleasant, but still doesn't feel as smooth/fast as a lower end TF300.
The 10.4.4.25 update has resulted in a lot of people saying things perform much better overall for them now on the TF700T.
It would be good if someone can compare the 300 and 700 both with their latest stock ROM.

Ya I have the CROMI that is 10.4.4.25 based. It is smoother than previous versions, but still nowhere as smooth as TF300 on the latest firmware. I remember day 1, the TF300 had I/O lag just like the TF700, but that was quickly resolved and the tablet is very snappy.

Are you sure on this? I think it's an over statement "but still nowhere as smooth as TF300 on the latest firmware". Currently, I'm runing cromi on .25 with stock kernel, force gpu rendering enabled, all animation turn off and I thought that I don't think any tablets out there can go any faster or smoother!!
I compared side-by-side the TF300 JB to TF700 JB (both stock).
TF300 is much smoother in terms of animations, opening apps, screen rotation, etc. But it does have a smaller resolution which means less pixels to push

I agreed with you if they both stock, but not when I'm running cleanrom base .25 and with data2sd on sandisk card 95mb/s), I don't think any tablets can go near this beast!
I'm just having to go custom to get things running how they should be. @ the price point where the TF700 is at, I'd expect it to be better experience than the TF300. Makes me contemplate selling off my TF700 for a Nexus 7.

Oh yeah, I agreed with you 100% on this. With that kind of price tag, it performed very poorly and you probably right that a stock tf300 is out perform the stock tf700. However, I disagree with you that a stock tf300 would out perform the custom modded tf700.
Just want to confirm your observation. A stock TF300 is definitely faster than a stock TF700. The Full HD screen is one of the reasons to blame. With such resolution, a Snapdragon S4 Pro is a much better choice than Tegra 3, but unfortunately it was not available back then.
I would suspect anyone who feels the 700 is not smoother than the 300 after modding the 700. Is probably not using a newer one of the class 10 MicroSD cards, with the mod to leverage it for regular I/O instead of the internal storage. The 300 which has no MicroSD can't compete by default.

I thought it did, but before posting I thought I'd check and looked at this AnadTech Tablet Spec Comparison chart, where they fail to mention the MicroSD slot on the 300 .
OK, so then we'll leave it at the screen being the source of any perceived sluggishness. But I must say, the screen is one major reason why I went with the 700 instead of the 300. And I'm glad I did. For me, the screen makes a big difference. The tablet's performance is fine with me. And I'm still stock . (Only rooted, but bootloader is still locked.)
Just the same, I may unlock and tweak it up soon. I'm running out of internal storage space. So I'll probably pick up a Sandisk 64GB Class 10 soon. And when I do, I'll use Data 2 SD, to make the full 64GB my device storage space . I'll also load up CleanROM, I've even considered doing the CPU OC. Since I plan to keep this puppy another year and want to always feel I'm getting decent performance.

I can rely. I'm still surprised by the snappiness of my GF's TF300 when I pick her tablet up, but I always have trouble adapting to the much lower resolution. Seeing pixels doesn't suit me well

Custom rom or not, the 300 is faster with apps like Mamereloaded and ePSX. Tegra 3 struggles pushing so many pixels.

I've always blamed the TF700's lag on too little RAM. Glad to see the next version has double the memory.
I'll wish I had it, but fortunately there's CleanROM for mine.

I dont think RAM was really a big issue for the Infinity. What really needs fixed is the i/o. When folks start purchasing the new Transformer, and if it dont have better i/o, I will definitely probably go with a different tablet.

With that nickname you're going to need a new abbreviation for the abbreviation. (This makes me have flashbacks to my time in the military, LOL!.) And you're well on your way to get at least an honourable mention for the longest ROM name in human history.
Also, I won't be able to download your ROM anymore because of the maximum path length under Windows.
Double RAM isn't going to do a bloody thing if they keep using the crap ones..
I still have 460MB RAM free right now, so why would more RAM make a difference if it lags even with free RAM?

+1, exactly
More ram would be nice, though our tf700 did not necessarily need it
Some of us have less ram on our phones and they handle apps updating just fine.

More ram would be nice for multi-tasking applications. My phone is crap for having free ram, but my tablet I have plenty, and it has the same amount of ram.
Really thinking about getting this tablet, can't hurt to have USB3.0, larger battery, higher res screen, and well new CPU/GPU at least. Though the I/O issue has to be fixed.
Quite a few reports about the extreme power drain from Teg4. Apparently not yet harnessed at all

Have a link? I'll wait till the guys over at Ars give us a breakdown of the chip before getting too worried. I'm just worried about the I/O of the device. We've seen the benchmarks of Tegra 4 paired with a fast SSD in the reference tablet, so hopefully we see something similar.

Double the ram means nothing. As others above stated, i/o is the real issue. Faster memory and a better bus are what Asus really needs.

Naturally they should update the dock over time but I thought they were moving toward a universal dock for their products? I'd hate to buy a new tablet and then have to buy a new keyboard dock.
It's not as if I can afford a new tablet, anyway.
(certainly not as I already intent to buy a Note 3.)

I'm disappointed they didnt include speakers on the dock. Would have been a good feture
I wonder if there will be a version with the Tegra4's optional LTE modem...
And I wonder if the Linux OSS Grate driver will work on Tegra4 as well as 2/3. Hmmm.
If the dock has a usb3.0 usb port and the bad I/O of the tf700 effects the data transfer speeds between devices via cable. Then wouldn't it make sense for the I/O in the new 2013 transformer to be improved in order to fully utalize the 3.0 speeds

Hmmm..
MTP is slow to begin with, so it will make little difference there (my sgs3 takes just as long to copy a file).
And don't forget, ASUS is not officially acknowledging the I/O issue. I wonder if the R&D team even knows about it.

A lot of people are complaining that the new transformer pad is slacking (usb 3.0, 5mp back cam,ect..) but i think they are working to a sell resnably priced tablet rather then all the top tech and gizmos. If the rumor that it will sell roughly around 399$ for the tablet and 499$ for the full kitten kaboodle ASUS will earn some respect from me.
Just hope the dock for that I'd interchangeable with the current tf dock! So I could just buy the tablet itself
