Hate to even post this. I was having the same issues with the original Galaxy S.
Anyone happen to know why the note 10.1 would be shutting down fully? I hit the power button and it seems to "hibernate" but then I have to boot it up again later?
Stock everything...
Am I missing something?
Thanks for the help.

Do you have display lock turned off? Are you holding the power button or just tapping it once?
Well everyone, the poor tablet just turned off and never turned back on. Took it back to the retailer and received a new one.
It was a defective note unfortunately.

So my galaxy s2 skyrocket has a stuck power button. Lately it getting worse, because multiple times a day it just turns off and vibrates until I do something. I'm currently on vacation so I can't take it apart here. Is there any easy fix and/or app that can replace the turning on the phone with a different button? I have done anything about it because I'm getting a new phone soon.

I tried doing that and resulted in nothing. I am very tempted to send it to mobiletechvideos.

Why?

I am doing it because I bought this phone under the condition I knew it was a faulty button and it worked for a while and lately has been acting up more and they can install a new one.

This post has a link to a parts source. Probably cheaper to do it yourself.

Power switch troubleshooting, teardown and fixes
Suddenly I had the power button problem too yesterday. I was watching the screen and it locked and vibrated like a FC. Then it shut down into a permanent 2.5 sec. intervals vibrating boot loop.
Recovery and Download modes were therefore unreachable. I could see one Samsung logo on the way to Recovery or quickly tap volume up at the Flash Warning screen and see the download Android go by before forced restart. Good, because the correct troubleshoot is that simply inserting the battery begins the loop. (It's your power button then!)
The external power switch remained spring loaded (physically operational), but ineffective. The problem is more internal. Tapping it on the table edge didn't help. I took out the battery, SD and SIM cards and seven cross head screws. Unsnapping the i727's back cover was easy using my fingernails; beginning with the slack space surrounding the volume rocker with the opposite hand clawing gently in the battery well, then threading your way around the case edge. The rocker freely floats out of position, so don't let it fall too far!. It is easily threaded back into position for reassembly.
Inside the external power switch's location is the plastic power button (short cylindrical nub on molded plastic block). That too was still spring loaded and physically operable, but ineffective versus the boot looping.
In my case, the hardware fix came by peeling up the corner of the mainboard nearest the button and blowing a few times, with the button edge facing down so gravity helps clean out any dust.
I tested by inserting the battery (voila! no vibration) and booting before shutting down for reassembly. I had a good soft screen lock button on my home screen's Widgetsoid custom widget and had largely ignored it. Now I have added the Smart Screen ON app and will use both. SSO offers both functions if you like. Thanks to the members who pointed out the troubleshooting, teardown and fixes detailed here.
Anybody else have this issue? It's as if its very sensitive too. I can barely touch the power button and my phone screen will shut off, but immediately come back on. Also if you actually press the button, the screen will shut off than come back on. Anyone else have this kind of issue?
Yeah this happened to mine just two days ago. I ended up pulling the button off entirely and using the phone without it. Super frustrating.
Power button failure is a common known issue with S3 devices. Take it back in most cases they replace the device.

Guys my phone was acting up. I tried to boot into recovery, and it wouldn't go. Splash screen came up and had recovery booting in upper left hand, than it just vibrated and kept doing just that. I pulled battery and put it back in and automatically vibrated. Now it just keeps doing that. I just wanted to clear cache and now it's doing this!
Every time I put my battery back in, it wants to automatically boot into recovery. But than just keeps vibrating.
EDIT: it booted into recovery and went back to its cycle. I think it has to do with my screwed up power button. Not sure what to do?!?
I had the same issue.
You can send it in to get fixed, our pull out the power button like I did.
Sucks either way

How do you operate recovery and getting into it? My phone is back up now. I just tried recovery again and had the same loop problem. Not sure if I should try going back to complete stock.
Does the phone have to be less than a year old to take it into Verizon? Its older than a year. Is it worth trying to go into Verizon?

I was able to turn the phone on after taking the power button out by sticking a pin in the hole and pushing down on the button within the hole.
This was also how I diagnosed it was my power button for sure. I could just flick the button in the hole without paying down and the screen would shut off.
I was told this is a hassle to fix because it could be a short on the power cable. I'm just sticking with my phone like this for now

Ohhhh. Yeah, I'm afraid to take my power button off.
I thought it was software at first. I clean flashed BoneStock and it went away. Then when I double pressed the button today it started happening again. I wanted to try flashing CleanRom but I can't even get into recovery.
It's sds sudden death syndrome it's a known issue with the power button. It's defective.

Oh ok thanks. What are the recommendations for dealing with the issue? I know the user above me took his actual button out. Anyway it could be covered? I'm about to go back to grad school and last thing I need is a defective phone.

Take it to store they will repair it, in most cases it's covered.

That I'm not 100% sure of but it is a defect with the device. Call them.

Will do when I'm off. Thanks for the help. Will post back results.
EDIT: Well verizon can't do anything as I'm out of warranty and don't have insurance.

This sucks. If I look at the power button wrong it turns on. In all seriousness. Is anybody else having this issue. The power button is acting crazy. All it takes is a small tap. Is worsened by the spigen hybrid case.

Okay now this is embarrassing. So my last device was the HTC one. Non rooted. Last mod phone I had was the one s. I guess a new mod came out that auto turns on your device when you pull it out of your pocket. Am I wrong or is that what's going on here???

I've seen this behavior on stock kernel myself, so has co worker.
But not on Dev type.
I've looked and looked for info and marked it up as a static glitch.
Not sure?

Hi everyone, first post on xda
I have an issue with my s4 mini.
At random times when my phone is locked and i try to wake it up the screen stays black but my menu and back buttons still light up like normal so also when i push the power button again the lights also go off. The only solution is a restart or battery pull.
Has anyone else had this problem and does anybody have a solution? Thanks in advance!

Don't worry about that. Those tipic grafic glitches are usual in a lot of devices. I have a Xperia L and it is happening to me nowadays. Don't Worry!
LUCK!

I'm not really worried but it's just a real inconvenience when i have to restart my phone 6 times a day... it's not life threatening but it would be nice if that would stop
