I am getting slower data speeds then I should and its because it keeps constantly switching between HSPA and umts, 4 times at least every 10 seconds. I was curious if I can force hspa, I read on another forum about someone changing the build.prop to lower the requirements for hspa and it working but they didn't say how and I don't know how to do it. I have full service 5/5 bars almost always. I verified there was a problem by running speed tests on my hox and my sisters iPhone 4. Here 3g is faster than my "4g" and I'm pretty sure its because it keeps switching so much. My battery is taking a hit as well. Any help would be great thx.
I'm running cm10 by the way.

I'm f***ing tired with my connection keeps dropping back to 3g instead of H when the signal strength is strong enough and the speed as you know becomes miserably slow, very much slower! I know how to force 3g over 2g but not H. So, is there any ways to force HSDPA over 3g? Any help is appreciated
I think HSPA is based on coverage, you can't really forced it. I have no idea how HSPA worked in your country (mine is full HSPA coverage except underground though) but if you are losing HSPA easily probably means your area is lacking proper HSPA coverage. Try calling your operator and asked if there is full proper HSPA coverage in your area.
Oops. Should have explained more clearly. The area is well covered. The signal outside the house is 4/4 bars with H all the time. Inside the house is 3 bars also with H but sometimes drops to 3g. And in my room, the signal drops to 1 or 0 bars but sometimes the network is on H but most of the times is on 3g. So I need to use H all the time. How?
Well, seems like nobody cares enough about this issue(or good enough to know how to solve). but never mind. Got it all figured out. now at least I can use 3g in my room with 3 bars and not edge
What was the solution you figured out? I have the same issue...
You can change your 3g and h limits by editing your prop build using root explorer, have done it on my x10i to increase up and download speed, but dont know the settings for other phones. Try searching 3g+ on xda for relevant thread.

Well I see some settings relating to the Category for HSUPA/HSDPA but not a way to actually control whether 3g or HSPA is selected..

Well heres mine.
Was connected to HSDPA 2.55mb down and .29 up......rather slow.
3.54 down and 1.6 up

We should see a solid difference once the backhaul work is done. It will display the h+ anywhere there's 3g.

not bad, i could get those speeds from my nexus one but not my inspire...very uninspiring
Stock
2120 kbps Down
108 kbps Up
I can wait to root this thing!
On HSDPA I am hitting 3.3 down and 370k up.

Did anyone else realize that the bottom cover is actually the phones antenna? I just figured that out...
On HSPDA used the FCC app to run the test... 3.02mbps down, 0.29mbps up
Seeing these speeds are scaring me away from switching from T-Mobile to AT&T. On T-Mobile I get 4.70 mbps download and 1.32mbps upload on a Nexus One on hspa (3g) and not hspa+ (4g). Damn I want a new phone already, the inspire is a great piece on hardware!

None of us seem to be on hspa+ either. It seems it may not be truly turned on til march.

"4G Evolution
AT&T has deployed HSPA+ to virtually 100% of our nation's fastest mobile broadband network, which enables 4G speeds when combined with enhanced backhaul. We are rapidly expanding enhanced backhaul to cell sites throughout the country, adding new cell sites weekly."
Something isn't right here. I've gotten of 3mb/s on my captivate.
The enhanced backhaul part is what's gonna get you higher speeds. It's not a new network or anything. Once it's done in a given area it also has to be "flipped on". That's pretty much what we're waiting for.
I've gotten up to 3000 down, 1900 up on my rooted captivate at my home cell site, but haven't broken 1600 down and 500 up on the non-rooted stock Inspire at the same place.
I have a rooted Captivate running Cognition and my Inspire is testing faster. You can run the test 30 sec apart and get wildly different results though.
im getting 3453 down and 423 up on HSPA+
Where is you location? Your the first with hspa+

which speed test website r u guys using? and which program to test speed? on opera i get like 6k down n on stock internet i get like 4k down. im in DC. im pretty sure opera compresses the website so it makes it move faster but idk. mine is pretty fast. especially @ night.
i use mobilespeedtest.com
on speedtest.net i got 3.44mbps down and .26mbps up. first try
4.17, .29 second try.
Anyone else notice when you switch to 2G the S4G the data is almost nonexistent? I don't wanna run 4G all day cuz that would be battery homicide. On my N1 I can run 2G all day and still have blazing data speed.
also what i noticed is that if i move from a 4G area, the phone goes to 2G. like wtf am i gonna do with 2g. completely skips 3g which i dont understand y...its frustrating
Well of course 2G is useless.
From a quick google search:
2G networks were built mainly for voice services and slow data transmission.

Hardly a fault of the Sensation, or any phone for that matter.

Then your N1 is displaying the wrong connection symbol. Even GPRS (2.5G) is only 56 kbit/s to 115 kbit/s.
for the tmous Sensation they swapped out the E for edge & put in 2G. They left the G for GPRS.
I'm guessing the reason you won't see 3G is because Tmobile has upgraded most of their 3G network to HSPA+ so it'll show the 4G
They use "2G" to mean Edge?
Edge is 2.75G, strictly speaking, but I suppose the symbol only has room for a couple of numbers/letters. Very misleading, though.
I guess the OP will have seen relatively fast speeds with a "2G" symbol then, but I still wouldn't associate the phrase "blazing data speed" with "Edge"!
Well to update. Lately the 2G speed on the S4G has increased, quite a bit. I'm thinking it needed time to kick itself into gear since its still brand new.

So on my phone It says 3G at the top. Sometimes. It says H. But I have miui Tom currently and probably forever? Most of the time when I wana download something from the market I have to pull down the drop down menu and turn off the data icon and turn it back on to refresh the data. Wait for a few seconds and let it work again. I have no problems texting and receiving them. Or browsing the internet. But for the market I'm having to refresh the data. Wondering if there is anything I could do

the lack of an h or 4g is just indicating that you dont have a hspa connection which has more to do with your area than your phone. the infuse is a 3g device but t-mo started advertising the hspa+ as 4g and att followed. it still operates on the same network and technology as 3g but is faster. 4g is lte (which the infuse doesn't have.) or wimax i guess but that is crappy sprint 4g that is not faster than att 3g and is only deserving of the 4g title because it is literally there 4th generation data network, not because it is actually comperable.
in other countries h and h+ are refered to as 3.5g and/or 3g+ because it is not truely a new generation of network, just 3g made faster.
the market problem is probably do to it being a i9000 port. i dont know what the nature of the bug is but it shows on the i9000 roms and i havent run an aosp rom so i dont know if it is normal for miui or not.

Ohh OK. So 4G doesn't mean 4G speeds. It means 4th generation. As in new. I always thought 4G meant speed 4 ghz or something of high speed data. Something to do with speed. Now that I think of it. G stands for Generation. Anyway thanks

The speeds do get faster as the generations progresses, but actual 4g speeds were supposed to be 100mb lol that failed haha. Anyway the market problem happens to me too. If you search apns in CM7 or the MIUI forum there is a fix. I applied it before, and it worked. I am just too lazy to do it again because for me it is not that big of a pain lol.
You won't always have 4G speeds. It's more like 3G+ lol. HSPA+. Get it? Lol if you want 4G speeds for LTE

Seriously? Another dumb post about phones not getting 4g. Some 4g phones have h and some have 3g icons. Read other threads and maybe you will learn something for once in your life.

I heard somewhere that MIUI doesn't support 4G the same as the stock ROM. When I used MIUI I got slower speeds than stock. Not significantly slower, but "meh" speeds. Otherwise there isn't much of a difference, it only switched to actual "4G" when you're downloading something anyway..
After installing Hellfire sandwich I noticed that the phone no longer runs on the 4g network but it now has an H above the data connection bar. Its a whole lot slower than 4G and I just wanted to know if there's a way around this issue or is there a step that i missed when I set it up initially? Thank you
To my knowledge some Roms use H instead of 4 just for display. 4G on the G2X is just the seamless transition between towers, speeds are the same as 3G since it's not dual band(HSPA and HSPA+) or LTE.
Download speed and Upload speed have slowed
After installing i've ran a speed test my download speeds are now averaging 1.7 mpbs in the same location where my download speed was averaging 5-7 mbps for the past6 months. I would say that is a tremendous drop. I just thought there might be some odd ball setting i need to adjust or is everyone else having the same issue.
I'm pretty sure it depends on the network load, I've had tests from 0.8 to 6. Point is that if you're getting 2-4 then there isn't anything on the phone stopping you from getting 5 to 7 it's upto the network at that point.
I work for t-mo and H symbol came about when the g2 and my touch 4g were around....I am running the same data speeds as if I were on a GB from that said 4g.
