Uninstall google now? Reinstall ICS voice recognizer? Eva voice assistant issue - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Running latest synergy at the moment but same problem happened with beans 9 and prior. Basically eva voice assistant works for a while and then it never responds to any command, even though i can see it here me it never proccesses what I say. Only way to get it working is uninstall, delete eva folder, then reinstall. I am in contact with developer but i suspect google now may be causing it, even tho google now voice search hears me fine and responds. Is there a way to uninstall google now and go back to ICS voice search and voice recignizer?

Have you figured this out any further? I'm on Synergy but I think it's definitely the Google Search engine and perhaps changes with Jelly Bean. I really wanted to explore voice assistants more, but I don't think I'd be willing to give up Google Now and restored local search etc

I am currently using cm10 but did this on cleanrom and synergy. The fix i am using is to search the market for voice search app to install the pre jellybean voice search. Then in language and input I select voice recognizer, which shows google twice. I select the 2nd one. I then choose voice search to confirm the background is black, which means ics voice search is selected. Using the market voice search eva has been working fine. Peter, the author of eva, said he released an update today that should have eva work with jellybean voice search, but it didnt work for me, so i am continuing with ics voice search from market.

With my workaround if you want to use google now and eva i assume you would have to switch the voice recognizer each time you wanna use one or the other. If you use eva or wanna try it the new version is 2.34, free 30 day trial version called eva intern. The author said it should work so try it with yours and see.

Thanks, I'll give the new build a try. I see what you're saying with the workaround but I'd rather just use Google Now and S Voice without fussing with it. Nice of the developers to work with the issue.

Apps requiring a microphone?

Now that we see that an external microphone will work on the Fire, we can start testing apps that require a mic. I'm not a Google Voice or Skype user, so someone with those accounts needs to try them on the Fire.
I did install Vlingo, a speech-to-text app, and tried it. When I speak into it, I get the message "An unexpected server error occurred. Please try again." I'm connecting through the same wifi network that my smartphone is, and Vlingo is working fine on the phone. I can't see why it doesnt work on the Fire...
Now I just installed a speech-to-text app called (appropriately) Speech To Text. When I try it, I get "Runtime Error - No Activity found to handle Intent { act=android.speech.action.RECOGNIZE_SPEECH (has extras)}", with a button to End Application.
Both probally need google search and voice search to work. voice search is the backbone for most of the speech recognition apps out there, hence the no activity error.

I'm sure you're right. Up to now I haven't seen the need to root because I could live without the Google apps on it, but now I may want to.
Google Voice Search (com.google.android.voicesearch-1.apk) installed for me but gives an Audio Problem error and Google Search (GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk) doesn't want to install. Looks like there's a little more work to be done so you might not want to root just yet if this is all you were going to do.

Thanks for the heads up. At this point, that would be the only reason I would root, but if it won't work, I'll wait.

Google now vs s voice

Am I understanding this correctly?
Google now is like a voice operated search engine, while s voice is more like a personal assistant.

Google Now and the voice search on Jellybean are two different things to be honest, Google Now will push information to you like the weather or sports scores. If you're traveling it will also do currency exchange, local time, and some other things. The new voice search is mostly a voice operated search engine, you can ask it questions or commands (whos winning the Olympics, set an alarm, etc) but if you ask it questions like "what is your name" it will just do a search on the query rather than give you a response like s voice. Pretty much if it can't pull up a card with an answer to the question or execute a command it will just do a search instead.

Yeah pretty much, though I hear S Voice is a piece of crap.
Google's voice commands are amazing on Jelly Bean, had it on my Nexus. Samsung should ditch S voice and just go with Google for 4.1, it's that good.

I am running Synergy 1.4 which has Google Now baked in. Far better than S-Voice. If you allow web history when you sign into your google account. It will post cards based on your web searches. Even showing more cards when just showing the weather it showed the times of the next buses that would come by. Not that I use them all the time but great none the less. S-Voice can't compare to that.

100% agree, I am glad I flashed cm10 was definitely worth the risk.
Google Now
Google Now is so much better than S-Voice. It can understand my voice so much better, almost never makes mistakes in the field of voice recognition. S-Voice thinks it knows what you are saying, and screws it up royally or just drags you into a stupid conversation.
Google Now goes straight to Google search with more things a lot faster than S-Voice does.
I've been using it for voice dialing, settings events in my calendar and settings timers and alarms with no problem whatsoever.
"Set a timer for 20 minutes" Google Now sets an alarm for the current time + 20 minutes.

Google Now is decidedly different from Voice Search or Voice Actions.
As a test, go into settings and toggle the off switch for Now, then try doing those things you mentioned.

[APP][CM9] Google Now For HTC ChaCha

Here is Google Now for armv6 devices running ice cream sandwich, which I found HERE all credit goes to the developer on that thread.
I've tested it on ADLX's port of Cyanogenmod 9, and it does work. However, it works differently than it would on a Jelly Bean device.
Issues:
The realtime "voice typing" doesn't work, it won't even try and listen to you speaking! - Workaround is to install an APP which uses "Voice Search" from google play (details below)
Sometimes the web results comes up blank - Workaround is to force stop Google Search and it's fixed (until it does it again)
Installation:
Flash THIS in Clockworkmod Recovery
Reboot
Install THIS app to use the voice search feature
Enjoy
To use the voice search, you need to open the "Voice Search For Google Now" app which you installed on step 3. NOT Google Now.
Also after speaking, you will need to press the "Enter" key on the keyboard to complete the voice search
It's not perfect, but it's definitely better than the stock ICS google search, with or without voice search
UPDATE: Also works on CM10!
Awesome! I'll link to that in the OP+1 (First comment) of the CM9 thread
More details on what version of Clockworkmod that is, and what's changed about it would be nice, but otherwise, good work!

Adlx's port, version 5.2.0.8
and I'm not the developer of it, so I don't know what's changed, I'd go to the official thread for that
Flashed on my Chacha with CM9, works like a charm, Thx

Voice Input Frustrations

I just cannot seem to figure this out..
I cannot get voice input to work on anything other than the S Voice program that came pre-installed on my phone.
I would like to use it when I text but the stock keyboard does not seem to have the microphone icon on it anymore. Now before you jump and say "I got this" I already know about the hold the settings icon in the lower left and choose the microphone. Only when I do it I dont get 4 icons, I only get 3 and the microphone isnt one of them.
I installed SKYVI from the Play Store and it tells me that my device does not support voice input. Well clearly it does, S Voice works so I checked all my settings but cannot get it working anyplace else. Same thing with the Swiftkey keyboard... it has a microphone icon but when pressed, nothing happens.
This is an Odin rooted stock ROM, nothing special about it at all. Anyone else ever see this before?
Does it work with Google Now? Have you tried the new Swype beta http://beta.swype.com/? This works for me but my not my keyboard of choice, messageease

I dont know what Google Now is.. didnt see any mention of it in the Play store..
I did find this out though.. a lot of these voice apps use Google's "Voice Search" app. The Play store says I have it installed but when I search my phone I dont see it. The "My Android Apps" section of the Play store also says I have it installed on my device, and also mentions its a system app of some kind. But I dont have it, and cant install it from the Play store because its "already installed". I think if I can find the APK for this program, I can probably solve my problem? Anyone have a copy or know where I can get it?
FIXED!

I went online and did some searches away from XDA and found out what Google Now is.. looks pretty slick..
But I also managed to fix my voice input problem. Reading about Google Now got me to thinking.. I opened Root Explorer and went in to System/Apps and there was an APK of something called VoiceSearchStub.apk .. it had a different icon than I was expecting but I went ahead and installed it. I now have a Voice Search icon installed and the voice input on the keyboard now works. But for the life of me I do not know why it was not there in the first place!

Google Voice search widgets FC after updating

I havent facing the issues before
Today I update to the latest version of Google Search 3.4.16 it will fc but use bundle voice recognization there where no wrong
What is the reason cause this problem??
Are you serious? You create fixes but can't post in the right forum?
Sent from my OmniROM-powered LG Optimus 4X HD
The fix is work(which I posted in omni discussion already)
(but that is not my main point in this thread....)
Current situation is...
My Problem is after applying the fix and updating to the latest version of both google search and google now launcher.it will fc when you doing the voice search using google search apk
not working when you updated to the latest version of google search 3.4.16 (so we can't update it.... otherwise will get fc always....)
Before that even I have been flashed the non-neon gapps or self-modified gapps package I still can update both laucher and search to the latest version through google play store and nothing error happen)
On the other hand, due to lack with my knowledge,
I can't do to much modified of the apps,We need genius guys to help us for fixing it completely(just like you)....
I still don't know why it will fc....(the wearied thing is if you are using voice search in google search widgets the, google search voice recognization still can recognize our voice and the words but after a few second it will terminated or saying google search has been stop working cannot show the search page directly )
if you are using keyboard to activated the voice typing or other apps (google play voice search area) related to the google search voice recognize,it will not get any fc and working properly
I have try many method(replace all lib which using by google search with non neon,pa gapps lib, change apk)
it only work on not doing updating also the apps should stay at the factory default(uninstall any update)
Here is my Logcat
Adam hope you can give me some clue on how to fix...
