Google now vs s voice - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Am I understanding this correctly?
Google now is like a voice operated search engine, while s voice is more like a personal assistant.

Google Now and the voice search on Jellybean are two different things to be honest, Google Now will push information to you like the weather or sports scores. If you're traveling it will also do currency exchange, local time, and some other things. The new voice search is mostly a voice operated search engine, you can ask it questions or commands (whos winning the Olympics, set an alarm, etc) but if you ask it questions like "what is your name" it will just do a search on the query rather than give you a response like s voice. Pretty much if it can't pull up a card with an answer to the question or execute a command it will just do a search instead.

Yeah pretty much, though I hear S Voice is a piece of crap.

Google's voice commands are amazing on Jelly Bean, had it on my Nexus. Samsung should ditch S voice and just go with Google for 4.1, it's that good.

I am running Synergy 1.4 which has Google Now baked in. Far better than S-Voice. If you allow web history when you sign into your google account. It will post cards based on your web searches. Even showing more cards when just showing the weather it showed the times of the next buses that would come by. Not that I use them all the time but great none the less. S-Voice can't compare to that.

100% agree, I am glad I flashed cm10 was definitely worth the risk.

Google Now
Google Now is so much better than S-Voice. It can understand my voice so much better, almost never makes mistakes in the field of voice recognition. S-Voice thinks it knows what you are saying, and screws it up royally or just drags you into a stupid conversation.
Google Now goes straight to Google search with more things a lot faster than S-Voice does.
I've been using it for voice dialing, settings events in my calendar and settings timers and alarms with no problem whatsoever.
"Set a timer for 20 minutes" Google Now sets an alarm for the current time + 20 minutes.

Google Now is decidedly different from Voice Search or Voice Actions.
As a test, go into settings and toggle the off switch for Now, then try doing those things you mentioned.

Cant decide between Google Nav, Telenav or Sygic :|

Ok, I know this has been asked before for other phones.
But all three nav apps have made lots of changes and upgrades lately and they have a unique experience on Sensation.
I have a custom rom now (thanks S-OFF) and no navi app is installed.
I used the stock Google Nav and Telenav that came with the Tmobile Sensation stock.
Google works good, voice sucks. Yea, telenav lacks googlie features but for a navigation it works pretty well. Speaks exit names, factors in traffic data before route calculation and gui is crisp.
I only used both for a couple of days. So now my delima is to pick the best one and I cant decide. On the market Sygic has really good reviews.
I wanted to hear more from Sensation user whats their best experience. Thanks!
As long as ur in ur home country (not roaming data), I'd say Google. The voice-over isn't the best, but its never failed me yet and the incorporated Google search makes it great for finding places on the fly. Just my 2 cents
Google navigation, free, simple. Case closed
Go with Google nav.

Google Nav, which, BTW, depending on your country will use traffic information as well.
If you are not roaming it's really hard to beat. Traffic aware, google search engine, it rocks
Google Nav works well for me...
Personally I've stuck with Google Nav. It works great for me, is reasonably accurate, and best of all it is completely free other than the bandwidth needed to run it.

I have tried them all, even the mapquest one and navigon usa.
As for the cheapest alternative, I'd say google nav second to telenav which I liked because you can pull up stuff like local gas stations and you can sort them by distance or prices, etc....
Now I have to recommend a voice TTS called Loquendo:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.loquendo.tts.susan&feature=search_result
Let me preface that it does cost money and is not free (IIRC ~6usd), but this voice to me, seems the most natural of all the tts I have used. It's by no means perfect, but it is nice and sound more natural rather than a voice prompt on the phone when you call in for your internet service..
I installed this, and made Loquendo TTS Susan the default voice engine on the phone. That's my .02c
google nav...
it's been dead on accurate for me. easy to use, great features, and it's free.
you get all the features without having to sign up for a premium.
Telenav charges for the same thing Google maps does for free. No brainer for me.

Google Nav all the way!
As for the voice overs - get "Classic Text To Speech Engine" from SVOX off of the market and the SVOX voice in the language of your choosing. Works really great with Google Nav and sounds awesome.

Thanks for the tip, I'll check that out
Navigon is the best offline navigation for Android.
I hope TomTom will release there app soon. And hope it's not 100euro or something crazy like that. I paid 29euro for Navigon and I am really really happy with it.
Navigon for offline maps or Google Nav if you have a good data plan

If you choose to use Telenav, be prepared to pay an extra $10 a month.
Google Nav OK, but
Aside from terrible voice, Google Nav is OK. Starts fast, integrated, etc. But ... if you lose signal - you dead. Yes, it does cache entire route, but if you make wrong turn - you dead.
I went to NC mountains and thanks god I had Sygic Aura. I use it from time to time for offline. It does not have TTS for whatever reason, so it only speaks "Turn right in xxx feet".
I also tried iGo My Way ... great maps, but terrible UI on Android.
If you are in US, try Copilot it is only $5
And if you think that you want to contribute to something social/navigation, you can try WAZE, which is connected, and social, means that not every road is already on the map, but if you find a new one, you can add yourself the road and name it (it is like having his own street name sign but in the virtual world... ).
Of course many services such as trafic, road blocked, ... because you can contribute to this as others will be...
Just an idea...
See you and good choice.
I've found Sygic to be the best alternative to Google Navigation if you want offline maps.
Nevertheless Google Maps does the job, plus it's nice and lightweight. Though you might want to replace the default TTS engine with another one like SVOX unless you like the sound of Pico...
HTC navigation full subscription UK 22.99
Uses the same setup up as Tom Tom and is perfect for offline and online its very good

Uninstall google now? Reinstall ICS voice recognizer? Eva voice assistant issue

Running latest synergy at the moment but same problem happened with beans 9 and prior. Basically eva voice assistant works for a while and then it never responds to any command, even though i can see it here me it never proccesses what I say. Only way to get it working is uninstall, delete eva folder, then reinstall. I am in contact with developer but i suspect google now may be causing it, even tho google now voice search hears me fine and responds. Is there a way to uninstall google now and go back to ICS voice search and voice recignizer?

Have you figured this out any further? I'm on Synergy but I think it's definitely the Google Search engine and perhaps changes with Jelly Bean. I really wanted to explore voice assistants more, but I don't think I'd be willing to give up Google Now and restored local search etc
I am currently using cm10 but did this on cleanrom and synergy. The fix i am using is to search the market for voice search app to install the pre jellybean voice search. Then in language and input I select voice recognizer, which shows google twice. I select the 2nd one. I then choose voice search to confirm the background is black, which means ics voice search is selected. Using the market voice search eva has been working fine. Peter, the author of eva, said he released an update today that should have eva work with jellybean voice search, but it didnt work for me, so i am continuing with ics voice search from market.
With my workaround if you want to use google now and eva i assume you would have to switch the voice recognizer each time you wanna use one or the other. If you use eva or wanna try it the new version is 2.34, free 30 day trial version called eva intern. The author said it should work so try it with yours and see.
Thanks, I'll give the new build a try. I see what you're saying with the workaround but I'd rather just use Google Now and S Voice without fussing with it. Nice of the developers to work with the issue.

Google Assistant now on Note 5 !!

I'm super stoked that the Google Assistant is FINALLY on the Verizon Note 5. For anyone who doesn't yet have it, be sure to update your Google and Google Play Services apps, and you should now have the full, official Google Assistant in all its conversational glory.
Has anyone found any cool easter eggs or just awesome functionality? I've noticed that you can actually activate with Screen-Off by using S-Voice to first wake up the phone, then say OK Google when on the lock screen. A bit wonky but it works in a pinch and is super useful when your hands are full...
I like the texting feature. I can text and drive now.....legally?

Yeah but that was possible even before we got assistant....It was part of google now.
I could get Now to open my messenger but I had to type the message. Assistant will open and understands speech very accurately so no more typing

That's odd, I never had a problem with it, I use extra, but other sms worked just fine for me too.

Best assistant

What's the best and more popular assistant for S7?
In my device I find S-Voice but it seems an old assistant.. Google Now maybe the most integrated with other apps and features... but what the new ones like Bixby and Google Assistant?
Does anyone use Google Now?
I don't use any assistant, in fact I've disabled all the info collecting settings for Google to the point the assistant won't work unless I turn them all back on again
Cortana from Microsoft is available on the play store too / apk install but as with Android, I kill that thing on Windows too, assistants are dumb and it's generally faster and more accurate to do everything manually anyway, and doesn't collect your data in the process
It's your choice, while I *need* an assistant driving my car to call, create reminders, send WhatsApp messages, SMS, etc
I'd like to perform only a few simple (hands-free) actions, you can easily do with Siri (iOS).
Google Now seems so poor.. so many times it doesn't understand what I say and put my request to google (web)... so frustating.. You too?
Yea, I've never found any voice recognition / assistant that can understand what I'm saying well enough for it to be any use, spend more time correcting and typing in the correct words than I would if I just did it myself in the first place
Siri is what you're looking for
Anyway Google Assistant (born inside Google Allo) should become the new modern virtual assistant improving the current Google Now. Unfortunately it's not available in Italian... have you tried it in English? (at first look it seems faster and more clever than Now)

Google Assistant for android app

Is it possible to integrate Google Assistant to android app? I need some key features like text input and telling information. Work flow:
1. User install app
2. User say "Ok google, tell {app name} add 20 dollars for today revenue"
3. App cathes this info to the local db
4. User tell "Ok google, tell me renuve for current months"
5. Assistant gets info from app and tell it to user
I saw a cloud functions sample with assistant actions, but I do not understand how it should work with the local app data.
In my experience and a very frustrating one is that Google assistant is great for outgoing task. Such as OK Google call Dad but I haven't figured out how to use it to integrate with apps to Simply say OK Google hang up the phone especially when you're driving and you just realized that you called a complete random stranger on your contact list and I don't need Google Assistant to turn on my light switch or lower my thermostat I need Google Assistant to access and integrate my existing apps. its great for information that is useless but if you want to know what date John john Lennon was born or Cambridge University established is great but it doesn't know where Jimmy Hoffa is bodies buried (you have to buy the pro version lol)

Do you know some apps with integrated Google Assistant?
just "tasker" with auto....
automate, macrodroid....i did find out by strange "app searching" that google now (i always thought it was the predecessor of google assistant and was buried in "Google Cemetary". but i (may be completely off) undersdtand that is is the Voice API in Google. you can intergrate it in nova laucncher through a Magisk module. Which brings me to another discorvery. in order to execute automated commands (some) you have to have a rooted device. ex:when I get to "location" turn mobile data off...won't work unless your rooted.

oh, I forgot one (in my other post) IFTTT. which stands for if this than that. there's thousands of start ups that enable google assistant to "dim the lights" really? I crave the day when I can say OK GOOGLE, close background apps that are consuming battery which aren't being used.
