[CWM Installable Modems] FC09,FC19,DK28,EB13,EC05,EE03,EH05,EL30 Modems! - Epic 4G Android Development

With a little of trial and error you can now flash any modem whether it be FC09 or FC19 or any other modem without odin! How you ask?!?!?! with a little renaming and rezipping youll be on a ns4g modem or a epic 4g modem without ODIN!!! And noone likes ODIN lol
All you have to do is flash the modified kernel then reboot recovery into the new recovery and then my zip either the FC19 or FC09 modem in cwm with the rom its meant for then either flash your kernel again say your on cm7 flash the modified kernel flash the modem then reflash your kernel like shadow or nyan same thing for cm9 or cm10 just make sure you have another kernel to flash so it will boot this is the only way i have figured out OR you could flash this Kernel then install the modem then after you install just reflash your rom and gapps for a fresh install. if your on cm9 you can keep the kernel installed but if your not after you get done installing the modem install the correct kernel for your rom
For Epic 4G modem!
BEFORE FLASHING MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ANOTHER KERNEL TO FLASH AFTERWARD OR YOU WONT HAVE THE EPIC MODEM! NEXUS MODEM IS ALL GOOD
These Kernels should allow changing modems if your on them.

For NS4G modem!
To be on a ns4g modem go to xboxfanj's thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1842037
NOTE:Make sure your not on NS4G patched rom or your baseband will be unknown until you go to the appropriate rom for the modem.
HOW TO:
1.Install any of these kernels above.(doesnt matter which one because it will only be used to flash the modem)
2.Go to advanced in cwm
3.Go to reboot recovery.
4.Now that your in the new recovery flash any of the above modems.
5.Then after you flash the desired modem flash any rom and it will replace the kernel with the one from that rom.
6.flash your gapps then all should be fine.

Thanks to: The CM team for Everything! and xboxfanj, marcusant, didhiy and anyone else im forgetting!!!

you mind posting the md5 or sha1s when you got a min?

Awesome job, joemossjr.

Sure will post some md5's for ya

so I'm just on normal CM7, but flashing either FC09 or FC19 doesn't seemt do anything. I'm still on EL30. md5s match. Am I missing something here?

imma try to find your problems

ok i odined the el30 modem gonna flash the Fc09 one real quick hold on

I will see if mine works.

The NS4G modem that was posted in this thread when I first found it works, at least if you're already on the NS4Gmod CM7
Now the question is, which NS4G modem will give an Epic the best signal and data speed... has anyone compared a few yet?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda app-developers app

Its is now fixed just read all the instructions and fallow all directions turns out there is a certian file that is modified in the kernel that allows the writing of modems without odin that i needed so just flash the kernel then install the modem then reflash your kernel

I have tried all of the nexus modems and kl2 is by far the best for me. Got 2.25 down and 1.3 up on 3g!

i agree that one seems to be the best

Is this worth bugging the CM team to get them to add this option to the stock kernel?

it would really help things progress so we wouldn't have to change kernels every time we want to change a modem but its way better then fooling with Odin and having it fail half way then restart lol

WOW! Another case of "they said it couldn't be done!"
Nice work Joe!

Okey doke, for one I tip my hat to you good sir.
Now, just so I've an idea of how you went about this. The kernel(zImage) is left untouched and this is more based upon the init's correct? The Recovery init to be more exact? Or am I off-base and there are patches to the kernel?

I think no kernel related too.. first though just the updater script on ns4g modem that make it happen
will take a look further over the file

I didnt do the kernel people like xboxfanj and marcusant and UBER and other i may be forgeting made the kernel so its not really mine its actually a modified shadow kernel that for some reason allowed the modem area to be written to and if you werent on the kernel it would say it successfully flashed the modem but it really didnt so i experimented and waaalaaaaah things were starting to peice together and i put the puzzle peices together and now we no longer need odin! i dont know what in the kernel allowed it but as soon as we figure out it will most like be in some other kernels and it would make the process easier and more user friendly:highfive:

has anyone contacted qbking77 to make a how-to-video on this ? ... :fingers-crossed: ( preferrably the REAL qbking77 NOT the blackqbking that has been mentioned in other sections / threads ... LOL )
EDIT - I sent him a PM :fingers-crossed:

I may be wrong but I don't believe any ROMs work with our phone yet. What I did in the mean time was just root using the fastboot method and flash CWM. Works like a champ
that's funny because netarch said last week they would work.
2.3.4 stock rom please devs!
The kernel works (I have it on my phone) as netarch stated, but rom's I *BELIEVE* are not compatible

I said the kernels should work fine, and roms possibly.
On closer inspection of a system dump from an ns4g there are some differences that will prevent current custom roms from working properly.
I'd need a guinea pig with an ns4g to assist me in testing to find out the exact changes necessary to make them compatible.
Atm there are at least 2 files I've found that would need to change.
You can go ahead and flash Net's kernel and start overclocking though!
I ended up getting so used to stock 2.3.4 rom that I am still on it!

Did you have any trouble deodexing any of the apks? Mine keeps failing on NetworkLocation.odex. I just pulled the apk and odex files out of the origi_app folder to get around it.
Ok, so this is a stock deodexed ROM for the NS 4G. I am not a dev, you flash this at your own risk. With that being said, Im running it and I havent found anything wrong...yet. It does have netarchy's bfs kernel, you will need setcpu to oc, it is good up to 1.4. Your phone may not be. Do not check set on boot in setcpu until you know your phone is stable. You WILL have to flash superuser in recovery, you can flash it right after you flash the ROM, no need to reboot. So, here it is...
O yea, I added spare parts, CM file manager, and CM mms.apk so it doesnt have to be white...

Original KG4 ROM is here.
If you have any requests or questions feel free to ask. I'll add any **free** app into the ROM by request, and I'm currently working on getting a theme in and working.
YOU STILL MUST DISABLE VOODOO BEFORE FLASHING THIS.
MAKE SURE YOU'VE FLASHED THE ORIGINAL KG4 LEAK, LOCATED HERE, BEFORE FLASHING THIS ROM.
YOU WILL NOT HAVE THE CORRECT BOOTLOADERS UNLESS YOU ODIN THIS FIRST.
FULL WIPE SUGGESTED KG6 BUILD v6.5 LINK
UPDATE ONLY NO-WIPE KG6 BUILD v6.5 LINK
**EXPERIMENTAL** FULL WIPE KH1 BUILD v7 LINK
IF ONLY UPDATING, DISABLE VOODOO BEFORE FLASHING.

F.A.Q.
Q: How can I get help?
A: Read below. If you want to be adequately helped, you must include all of the information in the format below.
Q1:What if (after flashing), I get a boot loop?
A: Either try flashing using the mounts listed above, or try these mounts.
Q2: Can I keep my apps if I have version v4 or lower?
A: Yes, you can! (*Billy Mays voice*) Flash the NO WIPE version located above.
Q3: Can I flash a different modem with this ROM?
A: Thanks to FBis251, YES! Go here, and flash with ODIN. Or choose between the KF2 and KG6 download links located above.
Q4: Download link isn't working, or my downloads keep getting interrupted?
A: Send me a message. I probably screwed something up in the upload.
Q5: What do I do if my apps FC, or my apps disappear after rebooting?
A: FIX PERMISSIONS! With our new CWM support, you (99%) won't need to do a factory reset anymore :]
Q6: Why can't I get into CWM?
A: Try using the QuickBoot app on the phone. Either that, or you can go ODIN the KG4 leak for the correct bootloaders, then flash KD1, then this ROM.
Q7: In CWM, under the Voodoo section, what should I enable?
A: ONLY System lagfix. If Voodoo Lagfix is enabled, you may experience background FC's.
To fix this, install BusyBox (from the market). **not guaranteed, experimental**
Q8: What's a FC?
A: FC, or Force Close, is when an application either freezes and does not respond, or closes itself due to an error. If you experience the occasional FC it's okay, but if you experience them regularly, or many in a row, there's definitely an issue. Post in this thread with the title of your message as FC ISSUE.
Q9: How do I install BusyBox?
A: Read here. You must have access to Market to download the required app.
Q10: What do I do if my SD card doesn't show up?
A: Go here, as mentioned by DSEXTON. http://rootzwiki.com/showthread.php?2496-HOW-to-get-ext4-conversion-to-work-for-your-GB-rom-P

Well you see both the boot animation, and the "Galaxy S 4G" screen right before it, without any issues.
So I guess the answer to your question is no, there is no rainbow issue with this, because the bootloaders are removed (from what i've heard)

with the other leaks, if people odined the gingerbread roms without bootloaders, the froyo bootloaders would stick and they would see a "rainbow" screen at boot. this was fixed by reodining in a specific order with kf1/2, but then you lost your button mapping. in the end, it didnt really cause a problem for people who stuck with gingerbread, but a lot of people went back to froyo for cwm.

It seems to be pretty good, I'm using the base ROM that this ROM is based off of, I did the bloat removal and build.prop tweaks myself, so they're both basically the same thing.
For those of you that want the kd1 modem, just flash it right afterwards before you reboot. This may be a workaround to flashing without cwm for gb.
nevermind, don't do it. Fixes wi-fi signal, but I can't make calls
Rainbow solved
Guys, all you have to do is flash the KG4 Bootloaders. They are in the original leak. They have GB no rainbow bootloaders with froyo key mapping. Volume buttons + power = recovery. Volumes + USB = download.
thanks for the release!
could you be more specific on what you removed?

there's an explanation why they have these codes. i know for a fact that K = 2011 and the letters after that signifies the month. so H = August. I guess the number is the build number.

I you are referring to me, why? I just wan't to know.
Is it possible for you to make an Odin version of this rom? It would really save a lot of steps in installing. Right now I can't get the gb bootloaders off the phone and trying to load ICBINB on top of a stock odin results in the phone hanging at bootup. The only way to get CWM on gb is by way of dr. honk's KG4 kernel odined on top of a gb install.
You must have the dr. honk kernel. Then you flash using recovery, then you can reflash the khi kernel.
I'm sorry, I looked inside an odin tar and it must be a bit more difficult to compile those four or five big installation files. A CWM file is easier to mix and match as I found out just now by following the suggestion and sticking the zimage from dr. honk's kernel in whitehawk's deodexed KH1. I thought for sure the phone would freeze but it didnt! That explains the preference for CWM. Maybe I can get a stable gb with CWM on there after all.

You can mix and match using Heimdall. I'm thinking of switching to that instead of using Odin... It's been more reliable in some testing I've done recently, plus it works on other OSes besides Windows.
If you want to flash back to Froyo bootloaders, try this release:

Raver added the bootloaders to it so you can install other Froyo ROMs afterward.

[ROM] NinjaROM 08/19/12

MidnightNinja released a place holder ROM until [email protected] gets updated, so I thought I'd share it. Here is the post from Rootz.
So, I have decided to put out a ROM that will serve as a place holder until withere2 gets Tweaked up and running.
This serves two purposes:
1. To get you on FP5
2. To get rid of the brown
I will be working on getting more hacks in there, its just difficult since school starts up tomorrow for me. As such, don't freak out over a lack of updates.
At this point, this is more of a glorified theme than a ROM. Certain elements I have wanted to add I just haven't had time, so I figured I'd upload before I leave.0
As usual, you are responsible if your phone dies.
Thanks:
Withere2: for the FP5 deodexed base
Sircrazy
Endless
CUJO
Gummy: For theming elements
and probably tons more people that I should have been keeping track of
To Do:
Lidroid Toggles
Reboot Menu
I apologize in advance if I missed you for your work. Please Message me and I will correct it. I have been doing this in between packing and I am a total mess right now
Flashing Instructions:
Mount System
Install Zip
Wipe Data
Reboot
Note: Download link will take time to work since I am uploading it over 3G.
Download:
Mods Included:
AOSP GB Theme
AOSP MMS, setup and a few other apps
GPS.conf edit
build prop tweaks
AOSP Sounds
Debloated(Tell me if I removed an important app)
If you are like me you miss the toggles from [email protected], here's something to get you by until [email protected] 2.? comes out. So after a bit of tinkering I bring to you Scrollable Toggle Widgets for this ROM only!
To change the Widgets and their order there is an app in the drawer called QuickPanelSettings, it's pretty much self explainable.
Disclaimer: I'm not responsible for anything you do.
OK, now the yada yada...
Mount System (I mount all of them just for old sake)
Wipe Cache
Wipe Dalvik Cache
Install NinjaROM_Toggles.zip
Reboot
Enjoy

so can i get from Tweaked 1.5 to tweaked 2.2 FP5 by flashing Ninja rom via CWM then flashing tweaked 2.2 ROM only?
If I am thinking correctly the Ninja will get me new Kernal and modem, and I get to use those with the Tweaked ROM only? Do I stay rooted by doing it this way?

You are correct...you'll have radios & kernel (fp5)
If you lose root just flash the su binary

Updated the OP...
Ok.....I flashed Ninja and think I was on fp5...I did let it boot up and I played around with it for a few minutes. I saw 2 different signal strengths in the "about phone" section. So I think I was on fp5. Then I flashed tweaked 2.2 (ROM only via CWM) after mounting system then did a data wipe and reset.
Nowhere in the about phone does it say fp5.....how do I know if I am on fp5 kernel and radio? Kernel reads 2.6.35.7 EP4
And both basebands end in EP4. And build number ends in FP1.
How could this have happened? And is there a package I can flash over Tweaked 2.2 and just get fp5 kernal and radios?

if you want Tweaked with FP5, see this post: http://rootzwiki.com/topic/32311-fp5-deodexed-rom/
basically, just flash the updaterizer and then the FP5 kernel.
FWIW though, I installed tweaked via ODIN and everything reads FP1 except for the kernel (FP5).

I don't have FP1H radios currenlty so the modemupdaterizer isn't working......I am trying to find a CWM of the FP1H radios, so I can install them and use the updaterizer, but after about 30 minutes of searching I can't find a CWM of just FP1H radios to install so I can updaterize them to FP5
If anyone can help me out, I appreciate it. Still cant find a CWM of the FP1 modems only

Lucky for you, I haven't deleted all my Charge stuff yet. Here's a link. You need to be on EP4D radios for this to work. Just flash it in CWM.

That worked!!! Thanks
I am now showing FP5 for both of my baseband versions and FP1 for Kernel and Build number......
Not sure if I have to edit build properties manually still to get updates to stop or should that have stopped it. I tried to edit build properties with File Manager but kept getting error messages.....Any thoughts? I know not to use ES Explorer.....
Also I am getting great service on 4G but on 3G it is dropping out like crazy, can't even connect.....? Any thoughts? Since I can't reflash radios due to having to have a previous version to flash over to get the newest FP5.....(I had to have EP4 to get FP1 in order to get FP5)
Thanks again for all the help....
Regarding the notification, try Paul's cwm flash files.

This may be a stupid question but where are the lockscreen settings located? Also, does this rom not have push email?

NinjaROM does NOT have TSM parts. it is basically a themed FP5 ROM (an FP5 placeholder until Dwith completes tweaked 3.0). so the lockscreen settings is the same as stock (under location & security).
the stock e-mail app should have push notification.

[KERNEL] [JB 4.2/4.2.1] Stock kernel - CWM flashable

Hello all,
I made this over at the GNex forums for a stock GNex 4.2/4.2.1 kernel... here it is for the Nexus 7 for those that accidentally flashed a 4.1.2 kernel or just want to get back to stock.
Flash at your own risk, should work just fine though!
UPDATED: Kernel should work now! Sorry about the bad zip before!
Will it work on 4.1.2? I have AOKP on my device, would like to flash this, just need to check if it's safe...
Cheers

where were you couple of days ago when I was dealing with the issue - trying to flash stock kernel.....wish you posted this before.
I will save this just in case :silly:
thanks!!!
I flashed LeanKernel and then wanted to go back to stock kernel before flashing latest Faux Kernel.
So I have just flashed your kernel but "about tablet" is telling me I still have LeanKernel installed?
If you can overclock then you're still on lean kernel. Either way, I'd suggest a reflash.

It was definetely still on LeanKernel, I tried it twice.
Only issue could be that I was using an older version of TWRP that wasn't updated for 4.2, but it seemed to flash ok.
edit
Ok, tried it again now I have the updated TWRP and the same thing happens...i.e. nothing, it flashes in the normal way but changes nothing.
This is all wrong. The boot.img inside does not match the one from the N7 nakasi factory image and the updater-script is written for the Galaxy Nexus.
Code:
"of=/dev/block/platform/omap/omap_hsmmc.0/by-name/boot");
N7 certainly doesn't run OMAP. Flash at your own risk, indeed.
I urge you to take this down and make sure you know you've got it right before you put it up again. Only saving grace here is you were using the platform by-name method (which just plain won't work on the N7) instead of the actual mmc block names or you could have really messed up some peoples' devices.

My mistake. I thought it would just transfer over. I will fix the link... Didn't realize when I tested it I already had the stock kernel on there. Gimme a minute to fix it!
OK should be fixed and good to go! Again, my apologies!

Please try again... I have updated my zip and tested it by flashing a 4.1.2 kernel, having the device sit at the X for a few minutes without doing anything (to test a non-working kernel) then flashing my zip, and my N7 is back up and running again.
I am still learning about kernel stuff... sorry about any confusion!

wasn't that hard to find out, but here you go: stock kernel
This is JOP40C kernel for 4.2 but will it work on JOP40D 4.2.1 stock ROM please ?
I've added this kernel to the Nexus 7 Complete Index

Can anyone confirm if the kernel listed (jop40c) is the actual kernel used in the stock 4.2.1 system? The build is jop40d, and the question seams to be getting overlooked. I cannot find the stock jop40d 4.2.1 kernel anywhere, and just do not have any interest at this time in flashing the factory image/re-rooting etc. Any help would be appreciated.

This.. I was about to post, my N7 (16g, wifi) is JOP40D as well, not 40C.
Thinking about trying out a custom kernel, but want the stock to fall back on, as it's super stable.

As it turns out, I built a "slightly rooted" JOP40D stock flash kit yesterday (mods to build.prop in boot.img, and su/SuperSU in system.img). I'm posting this reply from that.
I started with the Google JOP40D (grouper) distro to do that. I thought I was going to need to unpack the boot.img from the OP's .zip to do comparisons of the kernels (to answer your question) ... but it turns out that his boot.img has the same MD5 sig as the boot.img from Google's JOP40D... and the OP's updater-script merely flashes boot.img to the /boot partition.
That means one of two things: either the two successive Google releases (for grouper) had identical boot images (which implies identical kernels), or there is some mistake by the OP. (I don't have the 40C distro to check ... only picked up my N7 a few days ago.)
It should work in your specific case though, as you are on JOP40D.
In any event, flashing boot.img is way way more than just a kernel replacement. I haven't looked at it for a while, but I would suppose that Koush's kernel flasher is a much more appropriate technique for switching ONLY the kernel out from underneath an arbitrary ROM.
cheers
That's great info there. I'm searching for the simplicity of just flashing a kernel instead of pushing the entire boot image. Thanks for a step in clarifying this question
