So everyone is excited about KH1 I see, well.
I now have a fully functional deodexed KH1 breed. And now, why not make it look AOSP. As maker of GBTHEME, I am trying to integrate as much GB as possible into this rom. Also it will be there tonight or tomorrow.
Problems right now, Settings has an issue.

I am not sure about the desex mods yet, but the system treats it like a stock touchwiz rom, so yes, full voodoo kg4 kernel support.
UPDATE: I AM ONE STEP CLOSER TO RELEASE, I FINALLY GOT OVERSCROLL WORKING

That is nice, but I am making sure this is a no wipe version, so Anyone with KH1 Installed will have no problem with loss of data and etc....etc...
Hey have any of you guys noticed that on the keyboard after "A" and "S", it is "D""F""G""H", just like KD1, KF1, KF2, KG4, KG6, KH1!!!!
Maybe L will be finall version

there's an explanation why they have these codes. i know for a fact that K = 2011 and the letters after that signifies the month. so H = August. I guess the number is the build number.

Yeah, that's correct. I remembered reading about that on the Vibrant forum. Mind-blowing stuff, lol. The number is the revision though.
KG6, for example, means out was built in July 2011, sixth revision.

I you are referring to me, why? I just wan't to know.
Is it possible for you to make an Odin version of this rom? It would really save a lot of steps in installing. Right now I can't get the gb bootloaders off the phone and trying to load ICBINB on top of a stock odin results in the phone hanging at bootup. The only way to get CWM on gb is by way of dr. honk's KG4 kernel odined on top of a gb install.
You must have the dr. honk kernel. Then you flash using recovery, then you can reflash the khi kernel.
I'm sorry, I looked inside an odin tar and it must be a bit more difficult to compile those four or five big installation files. A CWM file is easier to mix and match as I found out just now by following the suggestion and sticking the zimage from dr. honk's kernel in whitehawk's deodexed KH1. I thought for sure the phone would freeze but it didnt! That explains the preference for CWM. Maybe I can get a stable gb with CWM on there after all.

You can mix and match using Heimdall. I'm thinking of switching to that instead of using Odin... It's been more reliable in some testing I've done recently, plus it works on other OSes besides Windows.
If you want to flash back to Froyo bootloaders, try this release:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1129933
Raver added the bootloaders to it so you can install other Froyo ROMs afterward.

Sorry people but Im still a Noob.... Dumb question time.
I'm Running the stock FROYO 2.2 and was wondering if I could flash any KB1 kernel on it?
For ex:
[KERNEL] stock+Voodoo stable 5.x for Captivate
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=870760
[KB1]eXistZ Captivate Kernel #8[28MAR][Voodoo Sound 7, Lagfix & Color][OC/UV]

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=989298
And if so, What would be a stable, reliable Kernel? Thanks

Are you stock stock? lagfix? rooted?
Those will all work. being stock the first kernal you flash will have to be a .tar version with the full version of Odin (ensure you have 3 button combo)
My current favorite is Onix. Works great and is very stable. Plus it add UV and OC features. AND gets updates all the time.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=930679 flash the .tar from here, for Onix
Then flash an i9000 modem.
Yup, I'm runnin stock, rooted and have the supercurio voodoo lagfix kernel. But I'm lookin for somthin different that might speed up my phone... I've never done any OC/UV so I'm not to worried about that that much haha

That kernel has clockwork.........so you don't need to use a .tar version.
Use the CWM versions put to the root of your SD and flash with clockwork Recovery
Even if your not into OC/UV the kernal is still great at stock settings.
So its as easy as flashing from CWM?

edit: Sorry, I re-read your last question.
If you choose to run an I9000 kernel then you need to match an I9000 modem to it.
They are a simple CWM flash as well. there is a thread on here somewhere with all the current 2.1,2.2 and I9000 modems in it. Just do a search

I have read that others have done it with little success. Any reason why you are holding back from just flashing a full ROM. You are almost there and quite frankly, I think you are safer going with a prepacked ROM over putting pieces together on your own. If you are comfortable with rooting and CWM then you have nothing more to learn to do a full ROM flash. I have never looked back since I first flashed. I've tried several and would say my favorites so far are Serendipity and FireFly. If you want to stay more Stock like, Cognition is also really great stuff.

Even with the prepacked roms most people do not leave them alone, and mod and change the guts of them to their taste.
I don't see how learning to change things one part at a time is a bad thing, as you learn how everything works together, and will have a better understanding of it as a whole.
That's true.... but ill look into a rom haha.... hopefully I don't become an addict haha jk

Get something designed to work together first. That gives you an easy start and stability out of the box.
After that, and after making a backup (get a backup right after you root and install cwm, then again after you successfully flash your first rom), you should feel fairly confident in trying out different kernel/modem combos.
Just remember that if you're using an i9000 kernel, you must use an i9000 modem. Likewise if you are using a captivate kernel, you should pair it with a captivate modem (kb1).
Here's an excellent list of kernels and modems and the safe combinations.
And, of course, there's always the modem thread.
Nice! Thanks man

This is a Stock ROM for the KJ2 update that we never officially received. Its Deodexed and Rooted with the Modified recovery inside already, so you can use CWM.
Everything is Stock KJ2. The Kernel and Modem and everything else is untouched. Just rooted with the modded recovery, and deodexed.
Same install Method. Check mounts and remember to disable voodoo if you have it enabled or you'll soft brick (Remember this has a Stock Kernel!).

There may be various bug fixes, but there wont be anything MAJOR compared to the other stock ROMs. They are auto compiled and they dont give us a list of whats been addressed or not. You can try them out to see if you notice a difference, or if your happy with what you have keep it. Remember you can always make a backup and restore.

Still, cut the fat, keep the meat of the ROM. This phone (like most of them) runs really well when you tear out the garbage that Samsung/T-Mobile preloaded on it. I've been playing with Undead9k's KG2-based ROM the past few days and removed even more stuff from the ROM (and added a couple of things I wanted) and it finally 'feels' like the old Sidekicks did. I'm looking forward to seeing what comes from us having this update.
Got this flashed last night after some stupidity on my part. Thanks teddy for uping this! If you ever decide to release a bare bones version of this, I'd greatly appreciate it as I hate debloating ROM's. No T-Mobile stuff, no Amazon MP3, Books, and most of the Google crap (all but GMail, Marketplace, and Maps) removed.
This rom doesnt randomly force close like previous roms, nor does it reboot randomly either. Great job. Those were my only gripes with others, thanks!
Since install, this ROM hasn't bogged down on me at all. I only seem to have two small issues with it but if they could be eliminated, this would be a perfect stock ROM. After being plugged in to USB for a long period of charging, the phone can't play my custom ringtones. A reboot fixes this. The ringtone still shows there and the MicroSD is still mounted after being disconnected but even trying to reselect the same ringtone or another from the SD card just gives silence. Second issue is, heavy traffic causes data to fail. I can consistantly replicate this using Shazam to find song information. This does happen, as I said, only when the device is sending and receiving a lot of data. I'm going to try a different radio to see if this fixes that.
This is a literal stock rom, as being straight from Samsung, not just being in the design of stock. The only difference this has from stock is that it's deodexed and rooted, it's intended to be a base for those who like the stock system but want to be able to theme/mod it.

Why Bother
Why bother with this total fail of an upgrade when there are so many better custom ROM's to choose from right here on xda?
I'm on Infused v2.2.3 and really like it but considering making the move to ZEUS soon.
I just can't see any reason to make a giant leap backward with the AT&T GB upgrade. It's just too little too late. YMMV though.
Maybe Samsung decided to use Zeus?
(Actually the GB release is running really well for myself. I haven't even rebooted yet since install last week.)

Yeah who likes a 100% working phone anyway, right?
meh.
now I know why there are no sources yet. and yeah the update is important if not just for sorcery code. never mind Samsung and att having respect for the customers....
think of how much better the roms can be if we don't have to mix libs from different leaks to fix video recording or playback and workarounds for the sdcard and wifi. and if they actually have HDMI. then we could swap kernels around without considering switching vold.fstab. yeah I hope the update is fixed soon so the code can be released finally.
someone is gonna have to get the update files and decrypt them to get a stock kernel though. (to extract initramfs and the root process will require a kernel to revert to until custom kernels are made.)
If you consider hdmi 100 percent, then I guess im running a 99 percent working rom......yea.....im good with that

This is all Darkierawr's work putting this together. He asked me to release it if I have time as he does not. So I tested both files by Odining back to stock, rooted and flashed the BML then the MTD version from there. If you see Darkie around make sure to hit a thanks for him.

A quick google will get you better answers but odexed means each apk in app folder and each jar file in framework folder is coupled with an odex file making it more difficult to theme or mod. Deodexed combines needed info into the apk files as well as in classes.dex. Then just the apk or jar file can be modded.

If you're not going to be doing either of those flashing this should be fine.
How do we strip out the Sprint bloatware? Once it's rooted, can it just be uninstalled? Or will it come out with one of the uninstaller apps?
I think it's time to try something stock again- as much as I like ThunderHawk4, I'd really like my data to work correctly by itself all the time.
I have a personal [unproven] theory that different phones react differently to different ROM/kernel combinations. My first EPIC definitely played better with a greater variety than my current refurb. Maybe STOCK is easiest for some?

All you have to do is flash the modified kernel then reboot recovery into the new recovery and then my zip either the FC19 or FC09 modem in cwm with the rom its meant for then either flash your kernel again say your on cm7 flash the modified kernel flash the modem then reflash your kernel like shadow or nyan same thing for cm9 or cm10 just make sure you have another kernel to flash so it will boot this is the only way i have figured out OR you could flash this Kernel then install the modem then after you install just reflash your rom and gapps for a fresh install. if your on cm9 you can keep the kernel installed but if your not after you get done installing the modem install the correct kernel for your rom
For Epic 4G modem!
BEFORE FLASHING MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ANOTHER KERNEL TO FLASH AFTERWARD OR YOU WONT HAVE THE EPIC MODEM! NEXUS MODEM IS ALL GOOD
These Kernels should allow changing modems if your on them.

For NS4G modem!
To be on a ns4g modem go to xboxfanj's thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1842037
NOTE:Make sure your not on NS4G patched rom or your baseband will be unknown until you go to the appropriate rom for the modem.
HOW TO:
1.Install any of these kernels above.(doesnt matter which one because it will only be used to flash the modem)
2.Go to advanced in cwm
3.Go to reboot recovery.
4.Now that your in the new recovery flash any of the above modems.
5.Then after you flash the desired modem flash any rom and it will replace the kernel with the one from that rom.
6.flash your gapps then all should be fine.

Thanks to: The CM team for Everything! and xboxfanj, marcusant, didhiy and anyone else im forgetting!!!
you mind posting the md5 or sha1s when you got a min?
Awesome job, joemossjr.
Sure will post some md5's for ya
so I'm just on normal CM7, but flashing either FC09 or FC19 doesn't seemt do anything. I'm still on EL30. md5s match. Am I missing something here?
imma try to find your problems
ok i odined the el30 modem gonna flash the Fc09 one real quick hold on
I will see if mine works.

The NS4G modem that was posted in this thread when I first found it works, at least if you're already on the NS4Gmod CM7
Now the question is, which NS4G modem will give an Epic the best signal and data speed... has anyone compared a few yet?

Its is now fixed just read all the instructions and fallow all directions turns out there is a certian file that is modified in the kernel that allows the writing of modems without odin that i needed so just flash the kernel then install the modem then reflash your kernel

I have tried all of the nexus modems and kl2 is by far the best for me. Got 2.25 down and 1.3 up on 3g!

i agree that one seems to be the best
Is this worth bugging the CM team to get them to add this option to the stock kernel?

it would really help things progress so we wouldn't have to change kernels every time we want to change a modem but its way better then fooling with Odin and having it fail half way then restart lol
WOW! Another case of "they said it couldn't be done!"
Nice work Joe!

Thanks man!
Okey doke, for one I tip my hat to you good sir.
Now, just so I've an idea of how you went about this. The kernel(zImage) is left untouched and this is more based upon the init's correct? The Recovery init to be more exact? Or am I off-base and there are patches to the kernel?

I think no kernel related too.. first though just the updater script on ns4g modem that make it happen
will take a look further over the file

I didnt do the kernel people like xboxfanj and marcusant and UBER and other i may be forgeting made the kernel so its not really mine its actually a modified shadow kernel that for some reason allowed the modem area to be written to and if you werent on the kernel it would say it successfully flashed the modem but it really didnt so i experimented and waaalaaaaah things were starting to peice together and i put the puzzle peices together and now we no longer need odin! i dont know what in the kernel allowed it but as soon as we figure out it will most like be in some other kernels and it would make the process easier and more user friendly:highfive:
has anyone contacted qbking77 to make a how-to-video on this ? ... :fingers-crossed: ( preferrably the REAL qbking77 NOT the blackqbking that has been mentioned in other sections / threads ... LOL )
EDIT - I sent him a PM :fingers-crossed:
