Hi!
First off, I'd like to introduce myself. I am Crinkypops and I came from the Samsung Infuse and HTC Vivid/Raider forums and I recently got a Rogers (Canadian) S2 Skyrocket (LTE) sgh-i727r.
After trading my HTC, I was stoked to go back to Samsung as I have missed it so much. I have tested everything on the phone and everything is working perfectly. BUT ONE THING.
When I look at the "About Phone" settings, I see that the Baseband Version is "unknown." My data and Wi-Fi are both working perfectly, though, but I don't know if I should be flashing anything if this error is up.
What are your thoughts on this one?

IMEI is still visible. I am less worried now.
So should I flash things? or no?
If it's not broken don't fixe it. Either it has another device's radio flashed or the radio that flashed bugged a bit.

Wow. Its been a while since I've seen the baseband unknown issue. Search the thread and find the rogers radio you desire and flash it. Or do a complete Odin to stock and reroot. Did you get the phone from another user or did you get it from your carrier?

Hi,
This may sound like a very stupid question to most people but I do not know how to solve it. I got my Nexus S (t-Mobile) from a friend a couple months ago. I rooted it and installed Nexus Beam 4.1.0. I was running it perfectly until I was so stupid to decide to try to run stock android 4.0 and unroot. I unrooted with a One-click-unroot. Unfortunately, it put my phone as a Nexus S 4G? Every time I try to install the T-mobile ROM, it aborts in the middle of installation. I will attach a couple pictures to further explain my problem. I just want to get the phone on stock Android running the T-Mobile Baseband. I can assure you this is a T-Mobile Nexus S, and not a Sprint 4G.
Thanks in advance.
Which stock ROM did you use? Maybe you can try rooting it and install Nexus Beam again and see if it still says 4G?
xD dude that's bad ass!.... but sorry about the error lol
- Google
@WindSlash-- Alright. Ill try it. I think its the baseband that I have to change though. Its weird. T-mobile SIM doesnt work on it though as of right now so I am not sure. As for the stock ROM i used, I just followed the steps of this One-Click-Unroot: http://nexusshacks.com/nexus-s-hacks/how-to-unroot-nexus-s-i9020ti9020ai9023/
@iGoogleNexus Hahaha I guess...I'm not sure if it works with Sprint though. If it did, then that would be pretty sweet, even though I have T-mo haha
Wow lol um you'll probably have to root again and flash the right radio you had before. Damn I don't know lol I've never seen anything like this.
Remember to have the right clockworkmod version!! Very important, sometimes these guides give you the wrong recovery. If you look through my post, it happened to me 2 weeks ago, I tried to unroot and I totally messed up

So I've gotten jelly bean installed on my Nexus S, granted I do have the Sprint i9020a CDMA version, I realize no radio was included, however, I flashed the latest radio that I had and JB doesn't see it, I used the i9020a version from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1784497
Is it just that there is a GSM version of the i9020a(didn't think there was) or is there something i'm missing, never had this problem before when flashing roms. Right now it says baseband "unknown". Which is telling me the ROM is only looking for a GSM radio I take it.

i9020A is gsm (the only diff with i9020T is the 850MHz for 3g). there was never an i9020a cdma version. maybe you;re confusing it with nexus S 4G (D720)?

Oh I see, well no I had read that 19020a was Sprint only, didn't know there was a GSM variant :/
So if I flash an AOSP version over this will it be ok? or should I just wipe and start fresh to be safe?
isn't the i9020a an att gsm phone? OP, remove your battery and tell us what it says on the phone itself. I'm thinking, along with others here, that you have the ns4g (d720).

Well, I did that and everything is good, however for some reason Google Play Music, refuses to see my music, and Settings refuses to see my ringtones, etc from the sdcard partition
edit:yes i did a full factory wipe when I installed as well.
I would start by looking through the thread of the rom you flashed. Sounds like you may just need to fix permissions or possibly wipe & reflash

Well this is ROM i'm using, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1763781 and so far I'm not seeing any issue with that. I've done a fix permissions thing, I'll try a reflash and see if that does the trick, not gonna get my hopes up tho...
Edit: Well I've went back to my 4.0.4 version until things get straightened out...to many bugs to work with in these JB ROMS.....

good question - on one hand, I would think so, as the difference would be just in the SIM card. but on the other hand, there could some VZW info on the custom ROMs that may not jive with a non-VZW phone.
I'll defer to someone with more experience.
sorry I could not be of any help on this.
The US Cellular Galaxy S Aviator, despite being the same phone, was not compatible with the recovery from this phone, and without that, you're getting nowhere. Back when the Aviator came out, someone was able to get a copy of the stock Odin from the phone, and imnuts used that to build a CWM recovery for it so superuser could be flashed. Something similar could probably be done here, but I wouldn't know where to start.
Having the version from the software might be helpful. I know the Aviator versions are different than the Charge. If the Lightray is the same as either, there is a chance that the recovery is the same as the matching phone, but even that is no guarantee. If you can't get the stock Odin to recover from, you'll probably be risking a brick to find out.

Is the Galaxy S Lightray 4G Metropcs 'unrootable'?
HELP! Is Samsung Galaxy S Lightray 4G 'unrootable'??
I have tried three different techniques, to root the Samsung Galaxy S Lightray 4G Metropcs, all to NO AVAIL!
My first feeble attempt was using SuperOneClick=softbrick ie, stuck on download screen,
Then I tried the basic Odin flash, with stock uckk4 ROM=Odin stuck in 'set up, battery died while waiting, as 'NOT to turn off Target'=softbrick,
and last but by no means least, the Droid Charge technique=hardbrick
HELP!!! I have scoured the net and can find NOTHING that has proven to be successful!
To make matters worse, it's not even my phone! I was trying to help my brother in law, since he and my sis are moving out of state, California, and are going to need to sign with different server once they've passed Texas, I believe, on their way to South Carolina.
Samsung Galaxy S Lightray 4G
2.3.6
You'll need a custom recovery, and as far as I know, there isn't one for the Lightray. I don't think any devs even have the phone, either. The only real chance is to get a stock Odin image and the source to someone who knows how to work with recoveries.
:/

There has been a lot of 'Dare ya..."s, but no one yet to put you back together once you fall and brick!
I just picked up one of these things and have it rooted but am not having any luck finding a rom for it... Has anyone gotten a lightray to take ICS?

I haven't found one who did, although, I thought maybe (I could be really wrong) that you could cross boot CM 10.1 of another device with similar specs. It could be an option
Anything going on with the Galaxy Lightray?
They just dropped the price to $99, going to get one for my wife since I broke her phone last night. I see a root for it, but no roms.
thanks.

Nope, tried that one before it bricked with ODIN....Trouble is, still no recovery ROM and it's nearing 2 since it's release. Here I STILL sit with a R940 with less then a couple months talk time on it! Phhhffffffffffffttttttttttttt
I just got a SGS3 today, but I am not sure which provider it is from (Verison, AT&T...). I picked it up from a friend, and not from a store. I believe it was from Bell, but I am not too sure.
Is there a way I can find out the provider? So far, I see that you need to know your provider to make sure you don't brick your machine :/
Regards,

Edit: I haven't looked into it yet (I will after I finish editing) but do I need to know the provider to unlock the phone, or is that one quick method?
Edit2: I remembered it came with a Rogers Sim card
Sounds like a stolen phone......

I just tried rooting it using SGS3 Toolkit, not sure where I went wrong, but It just displays "Samsung" before going black.

I gotta ask...Did you flip it over and look at the backplate? Mine says verizon.
That is not a verizon baseband. Verizon begins with I535...not sure what provider uses that number because it appears to be the international variants baseband. Not sure though, but definitely not verizon

You have the international version. It is not tied to a carrier the same way the US versions are and has a separate forum.

So its my first time rooting and I completely messed up and found this firmware for ROGERS/Canadian phone company I suppose and used it with my skyrocket. I have a Tmobile phone but now it boots up and works as a canadian phone. I was wondering if there is a firmware download I can use to make it or well turn it back to Tmobile features instead of Rogers features.
Yeah, go to your forum. Or go to sammobile and make an account and download it.
T-Mobile doesn't make a skyrocket, btw. It's an AT&T exclusive.
