[Q] Keep on my SD?

I just recently rooted my Inspire and have been trying out some different roms. My question is what do I need to keep on my SD card? There is a lot of stuff on it and it is almost full.

Easy keep what you want, pictures, music and your clockwork mod folder with your ROM back ups.
But first you said you been flashing a lot of roms, did you delete the downloads? Some roms are over 300 Meg.

Thats good to know. I have moved all my pictures and music to my PC. So I should just be able to remove everything from the SD card than, correct? I was a little worried about removing certain folders like the .android and other ones that sounded like system files. But I guess all the important ones are stored on the phone not the SD.
Also, thanks for letting me know about the rom sizes. Did not realize that they where so big. I have 6 different ones on there that I am trying out, to find the one I like.

Yeah, I've made it a habit to delete items such as roms,rils,mods and the like off my SD card for space and for the fear I'll mess up and pick the wrong item and flash something I didn't want to. Also, while on the topic, if you do plan on flashing radios in the future always delete the radio PD98IMG off your sd card after you flash it. It will make dealing with bootloader if you softbrick a little easier. Just food for thought!

I only have a 2gb SD card right now and just finished doing a nandroid backup that is about 900mb. So that plus the stuff I already have the card has left me with only 94mb and I want to test the new MIUI rom.
Can I save the nandroid backup to my computer and if something goes wrong take out the sd card plug it in to the computer put the backup back on and restore it?
Or is there a way to reduce the size of the nandroid backup somehow?

Dude, how do you only have a 2 gig SD card? The inspire came with an 8 gig. I have a 32 gig, and it's almost half full. You should get at least an 8, they're pretty cheap.

See the thing is I got it from this guy on the street called satellite jack. Haha just kidding I accidentally messed up my 8gb reversing the cid number on my first time rooting my phone.
Anyway is there some way to solve my problem for right now (I plan on getting a 16gb later) but want to try out the MIUI rom.
P.S. How much was your 32gb SD card?

Yes you can save the nandroid to your PC while you flash the new rom. Just make sure what ever size SD you get that you get a class 4 or better. I have heard and had issues with class 2 cards not wanting to work right like when flashing a radio

Why is the nandroid backup so big though? I mean I understand the system backup being 450+ mb because that's about how big the virtuous rom is. But why is my data backup 450+ mb as well. What does the data.ext4 backup?

It is so big because it backs up all your apps and settings for the apps you have installed and the apps themselfs along with any and all needed resources for the apps. Not sure what the ext4 backup does other then allow back ups for a data partition that is formatted to ext4

I always delete backups after about a week of sticking with a ROM. It saves space and stops me from picking the wrong backup.

how much time takes a nandroid backup?
I have half internal storage free...

240 seconds approx.

....just 5 mins?! my frind told me that it takes years (lol), I thinked something like...20 mins....

It used to take a long time on my older phones (Liquid Metal, Hero and ZTE Blade) but on the Sensation it's really quick.
Titanium Backup is really fast too.

did it, it taked 560 secs....about 9 mins ...i expected more quick, but is enough...

now, is obvious that I'm going to flash another rom....
what have to do on the sd? if I don't touch my games files or other stuff, will they stay there? a new rom should not erase my games cache if doesn't find the games?

it's depended on number of installed apps and speed off your SD-card.
when i was have class 4 memory and 180 apps installed it was take around 20 min.
but now with class 10 memory and 100 apps it take just 5 min to backup.

if game data is located on sdcard it should be there after changing rom. But you have to reinstall the game(apk) after installing new rom.
you can backup all your apps and settings with Titanium Backup

Flashable way to use sd card as primary storage?

I noticed when I briefly looked at the Note 10.1 that they have a flashable method to use sd card as the primary storage. Didn't see anything for the Infinity when browsing our sections and threads. Wondering if we have a flashable way to do this, a script to run, something. Thanks for looking!

why would you need this?

When downgrading / performing a clean install all of your internal storage gets wiped out - For example, when I applied the JB update I forgot to use OTA rootkeeper to make a backup, and hence lost root. I then downgraded to 9.4.5.30 via microSD, which wiped out everything, all data plus internal storage - and that means my Titanium Backup of all my apps and data included, including my Bard's Tale save game (and I was quite far along in the game).
If I had been able to save such data to the microSD Card it would not have mattered.
So, there is one scenario as to why you would want / need it.

I agree that backups should be on sd and I think titanium has that option.
You could also move the titanium folder to sd before wiping.

Yes, I know, I've been telling others how to get it working. Point is, though, I didn't remember to make that change initially b/c the tablet is so new to me, and I had no idea I would lose all my internal storage when I downgraded from JB to ICS.
Plus, if something were to happen and the device was not bootable, all my data stored on internal would be gone. Titanium backups are good and all, but the schedule I have set to run at 2 AM - if I did something critical that afternoon and it breaks, I've lost everything since after the scheduled backup.
It's really no different for me since I've had my BIONIC - same thing applies, but it is still a PITA to have to deal with internal storage that is potentially lost if you don't make a backup of some sort.
Also, TiBu is hanging on making a backup of my Bard's Tale app and data, to my SDCard, saying that there is not enough space - and the 16 GB card is 100% free of things except the TiBu backup of all the other apps, taking up less than 800 MB....

The main reason I want this on my Infinity is because I only have the 32gb version and this mod would allow me to use a 64gb card as internal storage. This mod allows you to have 64gb internal(by way of card) and 32gb external(by way of internal). I think this would be used by many many people, who have the 32gb Infinity, if we can get it working!!

Internal memory duplicate?

Hey this problem might have already been solved, but its driving me crazy. My internal memory says it is completely full yet my app storage doesn't equal the amount it is saying. My phones memory is saying I have less than one GB left. I just don't understand. It's been like this for a while. I'm running 4.2.2 dirty unicorn rom btw.

Mine is that way too.... Now I am trying to move stuff to the SD card and it's not letting me... I got all my music and a bunch of other stuff moved over to the SD card and now I have like 65% free space.... BUT there wasn't that much data moved so I don't understand, like you mine didn't equal what it was saying either.

I'm having a problem like this as well. Im guessing whenever I install a new ROM, for some reason it creates a directory on the root of the internal storage that looks like a backup of all my old files (I cant seem to find it now, of course). Regardless, I just got done freeing up around 600MB of data, but cannot for the life of me figure out where all the rest of this 11.4GB of data is being stored. All my music, apps, pictures, videos are all stored on my external SD.

I'm having this issue as well. I just flashed paranoid to my friends phone now internal storage is only using a few hundred meg yet there is only 7gb free. should be almost 12gb free. I will continue looking into this, hopefully someone figures this out if I cant

On the face of it this may not seem like much but WTH had it come from? It's causing grief. I can't make a back up. 16 gig phone You are taking about one backup of about 5gigs thx to the "data", plus it's still on the phone so that's over half my space taken! Now you see the issue. I've no laptop to store a backup on. This never used to be an issue. I've a superb cleaner for obsolete files that others leave. I tried saving the data and wiping it and starting the phone. Would not work so put it back.
Is this a crazy amount to have? It seems recent.
Running stock Kk with the superb Elementalx kernel.
If I had hair I'd pull it out!

Sure mate, its the complete OS and your apps and its data. 4-5 gigs for a complete nandroid backup is pretty normal.

You could get a pendrive and transfer the backups over there via OTG cable...
However, If you want to keep a backup on your phone itself and also want smaller nandrioids... Then transfer your media somewhere else as they can easily be transferred back to your device.. Take a nandrioid backup.. And then transfer all the media back to your device...
You could save a few GBs this way...

Depends how advanced the recovery is I suppose. My full Nandroid backup is 2.4 GB. Set to highest compression setting
I use slimkat which may be slightly smaller than stock though. 161 user apps.
