Hey this problem might have already been solved, but its driving me crazy. My internal memory says it is completely full yet my app storage doesn't equal the amount it is saying. My phones memory is saying I have less than one GB left. I just don't understand. It's been like this for a while. I'm running 4.2.2 dirty unicorn rom btw.

Mine is that way too.... Now I am trying to move stuff to the SD card and it's not letting me... I got all my music and a bunch of other stuff moved over to the SD card and now I have like 65% free space.... BUT there wasn't that much data moved so I don't understand, like you mine didn't equal what it was saying either.
I'm having a problem like this as well. Im guessing whenever I install a new ROM, for some reason it creates a directory on the root of the internal storage that looks like a backup of all my old files (I cant seem to find it now, of course). Regardless, I just got done freeing up around 600MB of data, but cannot for the life of me figure out where all the rest of this 11.4GB of data is being stored. All my music, apps, pictures, videos are all stored on my external SD.
I'm having this issue as well. I just flashed paranoid to my friends phone now internal storage is only using a few hundred meg yet there is only 7gb free. should be almost 12gb free. I will continue looking into this, hopefully someone figures this out if I cant

I was wondering about the internal storage space. The specs have showed that it contained 4GB of storage space for the rom, I wonder how much did it took up and how much remained in the settings when first booted up. Also does this phone also include App2Sd? Like other 2.2 Froyo operating systems?

i had 1.02gb before installing any apps. with all my apps i think i got 940mb left but u can do apps2sd if the app supports it lol some wont let me put it on my sd card but some will.
.93gb from the first time I got it..

i thought there would be more internal memory but i guess not, but still 940mb left is still more the enough for me. plus some big apps can be moved to the sd card.
Ohh okay thank you guys, then thats way better than than the slide, I only get 135mb when I first got it can barely fit all the apps I wanted lol this phone is sure to be mine soon

I went through all my apps installed and preloaded. Went under the application section and selected every app that was moveable. Went from under 1GB to about 1.2GB. Give or take a bit. Either way still a lot and will be TONS more once we figure out how to remove the bloatware crap. (amazon, twitter, demo video, games, yahoo, you get the point)

This is about what anyone should expect available from the factory. It is supposed to have 4GB of internal memory, but it appears that the MT4G has the same hidden NAND partition as the G1.
Fortunately enough, it does come with a class 4 8Gig card though

It's the same as the G2. Their story is they reserve space for Gingerbread, which is horse**** - no Android update is 2gb.

hey where did u hear they reserved the space for gingerbread? i cant wait for that update though. i cant find any info, on when its gonna come out
I currently have samsung vibrant ,its battery drains too fast ,might be some problem with it
I have the option of replacing it with another vibrant or samsung galaxy s 4g
which one is better ?
I have heard that samsung galaxy s 4g has only 512 MB internal while the vibrant has 16GB
is that too little to the way that makes it defective or to impede downloading apps on it (since most of the apps should be downloaded on the internal memory )?if so is there any solution for that other than rooting the device ?
I love the idea of having a front facing camera and a better battery life which feels like an upgrade
but im concerned about that memory issue .are you guys happy with this phone ?I need to decide today
Don't think I have ever heard of anybody really running out of app space. With the fota fix and links2sd app you should have zero issues with internal memory.

what does the fota fix do ?
I tried the links2d ,it wont move all the applications ,there will be many applications which can't be moved like the yahoo mail.weather app, facebook, etc
Are you planning to root the phone? Fota fix is where you overwrite the firmware over the air (fota) files. These files eat up about 150 MB of internal storage. Links2sd should be able to move all non system apps to
The SD card as long as your phonevis set up right. All this depends on rooting though.

I know less about rooting ,and dont know how to root
-but if i did, will I prevent my phone from receiving OTA update or to update the os to android gingerboard when it's available ?
-also will that void the warranty on the phone from tmobile ?

how to make phonevis set up right ?
and also how to gain a root access ?that what link2sd asked for to move apps

Rooting voids warrenty. Rooting a stock phone is very simple. You can update to an officially released gingerbread by using kies. No need for ota updates. Even going pure stock I think I would go with the sgs4g. Using apps2sd will ease the burden of apps on the internal memory. Not all apps can be moved that way but you shouldn't need to move them all.

I just moved my wife from her broken Vibrant to a GS4G too and it was fine. I didn't put any rom on it or even root it this time. She has a 16GB external SD card that I moved over but nothing else. She has loaded her apps back up and so far has not seen any problems with memory. She uses her phone pretty heavily and I think she would have seen problems by now. It is a snappy phone and seems to do a little better on battery for her too. If I wasn't thinking about getting the Galaxy Nexus next month I think my phone would have mysteriously become broken and needed to be replaced too!

I understand this device has a rather limited amount of available space. I was wondering if anyone could give me an estimate to how much data is available after factory startup. Thank you!
Also, is all memory included as part of this '16gigs', such as sd card stuff, apps, and the ROM? Thanks again! Just want to find out what EXACT space I am working with here when I get this device
4 gb reserved for system, 2 gb for apps. Available storage = 10 gb. Yeah its that bad.

Damn that is bad! Really making me reconsider but I would rather have this than GSiii. Thanks, from a fellow Chicagoan
I have no use for MORE than 10 gigs in a phone. Quite frankly, I utilize some minor space on Dropbox as well.
If I need more space than 10gigs, I have a couple hard drives for that.
I'm sure we'll have easy access to USB host at some point, which will work for me. I mainly want the extra space for nandroids, app backups and pictures without using Dropbox for everything. I don't use my phone for movies (all on my tablet) and no storage needed for Google Music, but still worried that I'll fill up the 10gigs. Had 16 gb card in my HD2 and that was pretty much always full.
Recently, my 16gb i727 memory space (for music and photos) was filled to the point I could not download stuff and my phone was laggy. I knew I had to get an sd card soon, but today I realized that somehow I had 360mb free. I do not know how this happened, since before I had about less than 30mb about. I am happy with this but I do not know how it happened and I am kind of wondering if somehow my phone deleted stuff for me or if my system storage (which has more than 1gb of memory that I could not use) gave memory. Does anyone know how or why this happened?
Did you trim backups recently?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
Nope. I never did anything at all really. Only used my phone as I normally would.
I was wondering why my internal SD card is giving me wrong readings. I am rooted using Unofficial CM10 latest version 4.1.2. from10/22/12
I never really checked my internal storage until recently i noticed i have only 3.79 gbs available. I know the phone comes with 16 gbs preinstalled and i know it isnt exactly 16 gbs. I plugged the phone to my laptop and i gave me the same reading. I checked all the folders individually and i only have 2 huge files each about 2gbs each and those are the CWM recovery folders. All the other files are basic files. I tried a full wipe; cache, factory, and devik. Anybody else have this problem? And any suggestions to address this problem?
There is not really a problem to address. Everyone's phone varies depending on several factors. All is well.

I was getting 10gbs at least because everything is on my external sd card. I was just wondering if somehow my internal sd card was messed up. Because I should have alot of space in my internal sdcard. I really think it should be more though
Are you running any backups, they take a lot of space.
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda premium
I reformatted my SD cards put in the same things i had running, but now its showing up that i actually do have 9 gbs left of data. I did have one backup from CWM and TB on external SD
