It used to take a long time on my older phones (Liquid Metal, Hero and ZTE Blade) but on the Sensation it's really quick.
Titanium Backup is really fast too.

did it, it taked 560 secs....about 9 mins ...i expected more quick, but is enough...
approved nandroid! thanks for help m8!
now, is obvious that I'm going to flash another rom....
what have to do on the sd? if I don't touch my games files or other stuff, will they stay there? a new rom should not erase my games cache if doesn't find the games?

it's depended on number of installed apps and speed off your SD-card.
when i was have class 4 memory and 180 apps installed it was take around 20 min.
but now with class 10 memory and 100 apps it take just 5 min to backup.

if game data is located on sdcard it should be there after changing rom. But you have to reinstall the game(apk) after installing new rom.
you can backup all your apps and settings with Titanium Backup

Migrating App Data?

Hello all, I plan on buying the Charge in the near future. I've got a Vibrant with T-Mobile, and it's rooted, but I wasn't planning on rooting my Charge right away, so I was wondering what would be the best process for migrating my apps over.
Mainly I just want my Angry Birds data, because I've lost all that once before, and it's time consuming to do 3 episodes worth of levels all over again! I realize this has probably been answered elsewhere, but I did a quick search as well as trying a couple apps on the market to no avail.
If there's a thread I missed somewhere a link would be much appreciated. Always looking forward to the good advice and general helpfulness of the people of XDA!
You gotta root your Charge to migrate the app data over... the easy way. Since it doesn't take root access to write to the /data partition of your phone (at least I don't think it does..) you can always adb push the angry birds data folder from your Vibrant to your Charge but.. I'd root and just use Titanium Backup.

Well alright. I used SuperOneClick to root the vibrant, will that work with the Charge as well? Also, does the free version of Titanium work for both backup and restore, and is it just the app data, or will I have to pay the $5. Not against payingat all, just wondering.

apps not restoring after hard reset

I wish to restore my apps somehow how do I do that? note that I moved almost all apps' data to sd card just before I had to factory hard reset. how do I protect myself from future data loss?
I have had my g2x for five weeks and with the help of xda forums I had actually begun to love this phone.
after getting a few apps like where's my droid and touch keys dimmer, this morning while doing my daily power off and on again my g2x got stuck in a boot loop somehow. T-Mobile Rep told me to hard reset. the problem is I lost all my free apps and only a few I paid for are back. this sucks I had a terrible experience with the htc g2 and almost went for an iPhone ... now this happens and my totally personalized once awesome g2x is back to a stock pos with a history of fail

To backup apps and their data the best backup app outthere is probably Titanium Backup. This will however not be able to backup your complete ROM + custom stuff.
To make a complete blueprint of your current setup you could google and look up "android NAND backup". Its not as easy as titanium backup i would say but would be a complete blueprint of the device.
Also depending on the cause of the bootloop your dataloss could maybe have been avoided. Calling support hotline usually results in them telling you what is the easist for them. Meaning sledge hammer method -> hardreset. Less work for them, more for you!

[Q] Keep on my SD?

I just recently rooted my Inspire and have been trying out some different roms. My question is what do I need to keep on my SD card? There is a lot of stuff on it and it is almost full.
Easy keep what you want, pictures, music and your clockwork mod folder with your ROM back ups.
But first you said you been flashing a lot of roms, did you delete the downloads? Some roms are over 300 Meg.

Thats good to know. I have moved all my pictures and music to my PC. So I should just be able to remove everything from the SD card than, correct? I was a little worried about removing certain folders like the .android and other ones that sounded like system files. But I guess all the important ones are stored on the phone not the SD.
Also, thanks for letting me know about the rom sizes. Did not realize that they where so big. I have 6 different ones on there that I am trying out, to find the one I like.

Yeah, I've made it a habit to delete items such as roms, rils, mods and the like off my SD card for space and for the fear I'll mess up and pick the wrong item and flash something I didn't want to. Also, while on the topic, if you do plan on flashing radios in the future always delete the radio PD98IMG off your sd card after you flash it. It will make dealing with bootloader if you softbrick a little easier. Just food for thought!
I only have a 2gb SD card right now and just finished doing a nandroid backup that is about 900mb. So that plus the stuff I already have the card has left me with only 94mb and I want to test the new MIUI rom.
Can I save the nandroid backup to my computer and if something goes wrong take out the sd card plug it in to the computer put the backup back on and restore it?
Or is there a way to reduce the size of the nandroid backup somehow?
Dude, how do you only have a 2 gig SD card? The inspire came with an 8 gig. I have a 32 gig, and it's almost half full. You should get at least an 8, they're pretty cheap.
See the thing is I got it from this guy on the street called satellite jack. Haha just kidding I accidentally messed up my 8gb reversing the cid number on my first time rooting my phone.
Anyway is there some way to solve my problem for right now (I plan on getting a 16gb later) but want to try out the MIUI rom.
P.S. How much was your 32gb SD card?

Yes you can save the nandroid to your PC while you flash the new rom. Just make sure what ever size SD you get that you get a class 4 or better. I have heard and had issues with class 2 cards not wanting to work right like when flashing a radio
Ok thanks!
Why is the nandroid backup so big though? I mean I understand the system backup being 450+ mb because that's about how big the virtuous rom is. But why is my data backup 450+ mb as well. What does the data.ext4 backup?

It is so big because it backs up all your apps and settings for the apps you have installed and the apps themselfs along with any and all needed resources for the apps. Not sure what the ext4 backup does other then allow back ups for a data partition that is formatted to ext4
I always delete backups after about a week of sticking with a ROM. It saves space and stops me from picking the wrong backup.

2.7 GB Nandroid Backup

2.7 GB Nandroid Backup. Took about 15 minutes. Is this normal?

No. Do you have some massive games stored to your SD card? Nandroid backups do include /sdcard/.android-secure.
That's what I am thinking. I'll take a look thanks!

My blob file is 2.5 gig and it took 20 min to my external sd card
Where can I find games stored on my internal sd card?
multi-nan?
Do you guys have multiple nans backed up in there? For a single backup that seems kind of large but if you have more than one it seems reasonable because only the boot.img and a few stuff get stored in the /backup folder as like 10mb-20mb files... all the rest is stored in blob so that when you have multiple nand backups it can conserve space (by using the parts that are similar between the two backups).
Quite a few people don't like how they throw everything in the blob folder but you can always go back a few revs if you want to use the solid backup files. Might even be a good idea to check if they come out the same size as your /bu+/blobs one.
Cheers.
lol i get 1 gig everytime. what do you got on that? maybe some of that pr0nz????
lol jk man idk thats a bit weird. way to big.
Yeah there's definitely something wrong if that's the only backup... unless you have a ridiculous amount of apps and settings data on your phone...?

All depends on what you have on your phone. If you have a couple hundred apps this might easily happen, or if you have a few big games. While most apps are fairly small, some can be upwords of 100MB, I know I have a few like that. I've got about 200 apps on my phone in total and my backup comes to around 3.2GB. Also what rom you're running can affect it too, my backup for CM10 is almost a gig less than my stock backup (same apps/data on both)

Closed thanks

On the face of it this may not seem like much but WTH had it come from? It's causing grief. I can't make a back up. 16 gig phone You are taking about one backup of about 5gigs thx to the "data", plus it's still on the phone so that's over half my space taken! Now you see the issue. I've no laptop to store a backup on. This never used to be an issue. I've a superb cleaner for obsolete files that others leave. I tried saving the data and wiping it and starting the phone. Would not work so put it back.
Is this a crazy amount to have? It seems recent.

Sure mate, its the complete OS and your apps and its data. 4-5 gigs for a complete nandroid backup is pretty normal.
seems to of grown a lot. Music is going to an mp3 then
From my mobile telephony device.
You could get a pendrive and transfer the backups over there via OTG cable...
However, If you want to keep a backup on your phone itself and also want smaller nandrioids... Then transfer your media somewhere else as they can easily be transferred back to your device.. Take a nandrioid backup.. And then transfer all the media back to your device...
You could save a few GBs this way...

Depends how advanced the recovery is I suppose. My full Nandroid backup is 2.4 GB. Set to highest compression setting
I use slimkat which may be slightly smaller than stock though. 161 user apps.
