So yesterday i was running cm9 and i decided to flash a rom...i went into recovery and wiped and cleared every thing just like normal. When i rebooted the phone the samsung logo came on for about 5 seconds and then the screen when blank. So i thought i was just flash the stock image and start all over. So when i opened odin and it looked like everything was working just fine then it stopped.the first part was going through like it was supposed to then i seen the fail sign.... I have some pics that i have posted to show you guys what happened.. I been ripping my hair out of my ass all day since last night.... Please help.... I would hate to have a $600 paper weight... Thanks....

The whole reason he's in this mess is because he was too lazy to read. It would be nice if people could do 5 minutes of research before they post about how they broke their phone.

Also there's a duplicate thread in the general section. Looking at the screenshot, he tried to flash the file for the I710 (Sprint GSIII) and not the I535 (Verizon GSIII). Probably a good thing it failed.

You can't expect people to be super helpful to everyone that screams BRICK after not following directions. The boards have been bombarded with thread after thread of people not reading and not paying attention and just flashing blindly since the bootloader was unlocked.
This is exactly why Verizon does what they do, because they know there are more people that DON'T know what they're doing and DON'T read than those that do and take the time to read and meditate on it before getting flash-happy. The people who don't read are the ones who commit insurance fraud and pawn these devices back on Verizon.
To the OP: Consider this experience a lesson in reading before doing anything, absolutely anything. Double check, triple check, ask if you are unsure of the method BEFORE hand rather than after. Post in the correct section and wait for someone to help you out of the mess you caused.
I'm sorry if I'm being rude, but I'm really sick of seeing so many threads about people who don't listen.

A lot of the information around here is confusing and complex, and none of it is laid out clearly. I really don't think we can blame newbs for messing up.

Actually it's laid out in steps and very easy to read. All you have to do is read. If you don't understand something, ask. In the mean time, you could research it. It's nobody's fault but their own if they're impatient and don't feel like researching while messing with their $600 device. There's no excuse.
People go through a lot of hassle and free time writing stickies and guides to these steps. Don't tell me it's not laid out clearly.
I agreee. the steps are there, the information is there. I accidentally almost bricked mine because I did steps out of order but was able to recover just by reading threads and searching. Anything I don't understand, I back away slowly from.

The information here is only clear to people who have put in a lot of time reading, and searching for clarifications. ...but the reality is that for a newb, it is extremely confusing. For example, the terms ROM/kernel/radio/modem aren't not used consistently through the forums, and even some of the more seasoned people mis-use them time to time.
We have this notion that spending hundreds of hours trolling the forums and threads is some sort of badge of honor, but in reality it only speaks to our own lack of entry level guides.
I'm not expecting you guys to revamp the system, I'm just saying we need to be more tolerant.

Ok OP, you just answered your own question: 2.3.3. Please stop posting stuff that can be easily found by surfing through the dev section for a bit. If you were to open, or maybe even look at (oh the horror) some of the threads in the dev section marked [KERNEL] and saw them labeled for 2.3.3 then you could have answered your own question without making yourself look stupid and gain a bad reputation.
There is a thank you button down there VV
I'm sure a newbie such as yourself doesn't know about that yet. Give it a go.
EDIT: There is only one. That narrows it down a bit I would give you a link but your detective skills may come in handy one day so why not hone them now right?

Wooooooow...
Some of his other posts have been damn near incomprehensible. It's the asking questions that have been answered before, and the demanding answers and links without searching, and the one that gets me most, being rude to people who are trying to help.
Maybe it's because I am an old guy but, I just don't think people should act that way especially in a community based forum where people try to help each other.
And he wants to develop a rom and i applaud him for that. But A) he is going to need to do some reading. And B) who is going to flash someone's rom when they can barely read the OP?
I am just trying to help him understand that there is a social code that should be followed.
But thank you for calling me an annoying tight ass.

I tried the faux kernel and my phone would not reboot properly. Either they are not compatible or i did the wrong wipe.
I'm sorry, but i just can't take it anymore. Every morning for the past few weeks, I'd go on xda, anticipating some great new app, ROM, or just anything. And lately, there's been a lot new roms, which i love and thank the devs very much for. But with those roms came new questions and problems. I understood that people had simple questions to ask, and those questions were answered. But after a while, the forums just turned to...uh garbage. Everybody is asking the same questions that were answered time after time, not reading and posting the same things over and over. Also, everyone feels the need to be rude to others or argue. If it's something about a rom, fine. But if it's a post saying how you suck or if it's a repeated question, don't feed the fire by adding back or acknowledging that question. Just ignore it. I'm sorry for this long post,i just looked at the AOKP Q&A, and it's 40 pages. There's absolutely no reason for it to be that long, and most of it is repeated questions and people fighting with each other. This is the internet, you're never gonna see each other, so don't be offended. If I'm breaking any forum rules, again, I'm sorry. It just seems that is in style lately.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda app-developers app
That's what the Q&A thread is for.. inquiries and discussions. The reason it is there is to leave the development threads clean of repetitive questions. I think you're just being a little dramatic. The search function isn't exactly top notch, and this is the internet.. so there will be people who are gonna be either lazy or rude, or both.
Oh, the drama!

Bottom line, as long as the dev threads are clean, then it shouldn't really be a problem. When real issues come up, we dev's usually post them in our threads. As for the q&a's, we should focus to keep those clean as well, because there can be a lot of useful information post there as well.

This was asked on my thread and the best answer is: it's up to you. If it's important to you, see if you can hack it out. Or try to get someone to work on it for you. And I used to give **** to illnevertell, who coincidentally is someone I'd call a friend now. Does he troll? yeah. Could it be called annoying to some? Sure, but he has a point and his hearts in the right place. As I've mentioned before, its like being a government employee; when you deal with assholes and morons all day long, you begin to think that everybody is one. Question after question that could be handled without wasting anyone's time gets annoying as well. I actually saw a thread begun a while back for a douche mad at XDA and everyone in it because the idiot asked a dumb question in a dumber way and got his panties all bunched up at some ribbing about it. I believe it was something to the effect of "I am going to tell everyone I know on the net to stay away from XDA". Seriously? This is supposed to be a learning and sharing forum, not ****ing tech support for morons who want a flashy phone without doing anything to earn it. Go on ****ing Craigslist and find one of those assholes who sell ROM flashing, ok?
**This was not meant for the OP, just got off on a little rant of my own. Illnevertell can be harsh, but that doesn't make him wrong.
Not sure exactly what this is. I just found it submitted to DevHost. It's the new radio for the skyrocket. just the radio. I looked around, didn't see anywhere else to get just the radio to flash over UCLF6. Note: This is not mine, And it has not been tested.

Why did you open a thread with something you're "not sure what it is" in Developers section?
Let's see what it is. This is a sticky INDEX thread in this forum:

Look under "RADIOS/MODEMS", second line.
You shouldn't share a dangerous for flashing stuff like modem build, untested. Reported.

I can think of 3 reasons:
1) It's already posted in the sticky in this forum
2) I'm wary on anyone posting something in the Dev section and announcing that it's completely untested. There are exceptions, but those are usually reserved for known devs (in my mind)
3) There was no work done by the OP. He found something on dev-host and just posted it here (see #1).

I am sorry, all. I should have either posted this in General, or not at all. I am sorry.

And this is why people don't post anything. Because people make them feel dumb about it. Then people see that and don't want to contribute. I feel bad for u man. At least u tried! I agree with some, should have looked harder. Next time when u find something that u think no one has seen. Search for it on Google. That's what I do...
Cut the guy a break, he was trying to help. It is kinda intimidating being on these message boards with over a million people. Being one amongst millions is tough and he wanted to post what he thought was a discovery. He did apologize. His post is no less important than the ones bashing his post. Let's stay on topic here. Op please ask a mod to close this and let's move on.

I send one of the moderators of this forum (prbassplayer i think is his name) about taking it down. Again, I am sorry for posting this. I honestly didn't mean to harm anyone or piss anyone off. Thank you to those who did defend me, but I am in the wrong here. Again, sorry.

That's very respectable. That would be great if all the people who mess up admit it, apologize, and ask the mods to take the thread down. Well done!

I didn't mean to appear as harsh as I probably did; but kudos to you for the actions you took.

Needless, internerd drama. If we all met face-to-face to exchange ideas, none of this silliness would have ever happened. I'd stake my life on this...

Instead of arguing shouldn't we give our opinion how good is this modem. A lot people throughout the forum have concerns regarding the performance on the ROMs, which I think it has play fairly well in most of the ROMs I have tried. (Skyjb, slimbean, cm10, miui, orthus 7, xperianceAOKP with this modem.

That's not a bad idea. I know, I've been running it for a few days. I seem to get a bit better service then I did when I used UCLF6 and it like switches to WiFi a tad faster, if that's any correlation.

What do you mean you get no help? This isn't your first time posting to the wrong forum and you've gotten answers every time. Don't lie and say you've tried Q&A and gotten no help.
Post under where you got your download, you can't just say sorry and just clog up our threads with your issues, you don't own it you know. We all have had or have issues at times. Doesn't give you the right to just post what you want and where you want. You need to be flagged and banned!
You are a butt hole, a sweaty salty nutty butt hole.
Please read forum rule 15 if you are not sure where to post

I've said it before but it bears repeating. If you honestly don't know things like this then; you haven't done enough research, have no business flashing a somewhat experimental ROM like CM, and want to be spoonfed every answer. I cannot believe some of the people who don't think twice about flashing and don't know what to do when things go wrong. Before I flashed my very first ROM on my og droid, I knew everything about the process. Because when things went wrong I wasn't depending on someone else to hold my hand.

You'd be amazed how many people flash hboots for HTC devices without verifying MD5 sums. That one time there is a bad upload and you will be up the creek without a paddle.

Its almost too easy to flash/root anything now. The era of on the edge of your seat, pushing files via adb, praying it works, but knowing exactly what you're doing, is over. It's all on click root apps now. It's a double edged sword, really. People don't take the time to read up on what they're doing, knowing they have the crutch of coming here.

It seems like those of us who actually do their homework before rooting their devices are decreasing.

I agree ever so much. I remember rooting/unlocking the thunderbolt when the first root/unlock came out. Took almost 45 mins and if you goofed a few steps your device was a brick. People thought twice back then and were more careful.
As devices get harder to brick people just do whatever and as you said will just come here for help. I have spent hours and hours breaking things just to figure out how they work. I came to this phone and released the first working 100% deodexed ROM for this phone because of it. I spent hours and hours trying to figure out why the others couldn't.
So I get a little bothered when people spend 10 mins and give up and expect help.

The thunderbolt is such a pain to root I am shocked that I didn't brick my cousin's phone. Yeah phones are much easier to root but it is also much easier to solve a lot of the issues you come across on your own. I for one won't be bothering you nosympathy or any developer with questions unless I exhaust all my options.

Haha don't take it the wrong way I don't mind helping but when people post a question answered two posts above them or create a thread for a question when one exists and is still on the front page, those are where I get annoyed. Also when people don't at least try and search first. You can always tell if they have searched or not.
I try to be helpful though long as you tried first
