Linux OS: Best for development? - Samsung Infuse 4G

I'm sure Ubuntu is at the top of the list. I have Opensuse 12.1 on mine. But I'm planning on installing another. Possibly Zorin 6 which is Ubuntu based, or Solusos. Just wondering what OS works best for you and why?

Th3Bill will most likely miss this post as he has at least 7 builds on 3 devices right now but I know from working with him his favorite by a long shot is Arch Linux. I have a computer with Zorin and like it a lot, but I am not a developer. All the best !!

Huge fan of Ubuntu, you may not easily have 100% control or super minimal like other distros but it's still great to use in terms of user base, help, and PPAs

Ubuntu Studio = Ubuntu with a bunch of music and video editing programs
Xubuntu = nice fast lightweight Ubuntu for older machines
Backtrack 5 or BlackBuntu = penetration testing, not really for development , but still fun
There are so many different distros, I just switched to Linux about a year ago and will never go back. I just run Windows in Virtual Box if needed.
I am interested to hear some response on some development Linux distros as well

I just tried Zorin 6 off live CD. I like it so far. Also like how play on comes with it so I can install some of my microsoft programs on there also.

+1 - haven't updated from Zorin 5 cause I like it so much, will get to it soon.

Just saw a vid on Ultimate Edition 3.4 that's based off of Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. Comes prepacked with a lot of apps and features. 3.2 gig download though.

The best distro is the one that installs and works with the least dicking around. Try a couple, pick one, and you'll be fine. They're all Linux, they'll all run Eclipse, and you can develop on anything.

Arch Linux takes ages to set up, but once it's up, it's completely worth it.

G2X as Desktop PC port Petition

Hey everyone. User, Lokifish, over on the Evo 4G forums ahs developed a way to use the Evo4g as a desktop PC. He fields requests to port his stuff as long as there is a desire for the technology in the new device's community. This thread is a petition I am starting to have this tech ported to the G2X. I know not everyone would use it but it would help me out a lot. Im sure there are other folks out here that would like it as well. Here is a link to his thread so you guys can see what he's done with it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1038840 Personally, my g2x is more powerful than my little netbook and i would much rather use the g2x all the time than have to mess with my PC. so please support guys. I love CM7, love Faux's kernel. LOve all the work you all have been doing for our device. Please just drop your name. say you would be interested so I can get Lokifish to port. Thanks everyone and if this is misplaced I apologize. I think it would be cool at the very least. Thanks guys!
hell yes this would be sweet!

Well if anyone can confirm this than i guess its a moot point. I already use LCD Density changer to give me mroe screen real estate. Would want to know if a pointer shows on the screen with BT mouse. Biggest thing would be implementing a windowed UI. that way we can switch apps quickly if using for desktop use.
That would be sweet. I am all for it.

Me.
I don't see which are the benefits of this over a PC at all.
I'm pretty sure CM7 supports all this already. I have a bluetooth mouse and keyboard at home, and a HDMI cable.
Essentially what you do is lower the DPI setting to give you a Desktop-like resolution, then on a monitor it runs just like a basic Linux distro. A good email and office application, browser, etc. Basic stuff.
(FYI-This kind of stuff is why I wanted a separate power/HDMI port)

Dual-boot?

I know we have Linux distros working via chmod and such, but I was curious of we could legitimately dual-boot. Windows 8 looks intriguing. Just a thought. Any insight?

Thats because the Core version dosnt include a GUI its just a command line, you will need to use Small or Large to have a GUI

Sorry to burst your bubble guys but Ubuntu has said that it won't be publicly released. They will be working with the manufacturers to have it working natively (like the Atrix and webtop)

Looks like it was directly ported from Windows 98.
It's geek enough for me. I don't mind having a desktop interface, as long as it enables me to work with the real thing.
I still have to decide whether I prefer this one, or Libre/OpenOffice over Ubuntu over linuxonandroid.org

There are already plenty of great office apps and this one for now are far from enjoyable. Lets see will he improve it.
