Would be awesome if we can get this to work.

I agree, but it's a long way off yet. I'm excited. That page is for mobile networks and manufacturers to contact Canonical. (Ubuntu owners)

yes, I'm waiting for that...it is still a project, there is no release, we have to wait....so there is no way to get it working
You guys should check out my project (in sig) see it as Ubuntu on android but without the large amount of money backing it.. but we are getting there

Thats because the Core version dosnt include a GUI its just a command line, you will need to use Small or Large to have a GUI

Sorry to burst your bubble guys but Ubuntu has said that it won't be publicly released. They will be working with the manufacturers to have it working natively (like the Atrix and webtop)

i just saw this post and thought "wow that looks like and android home screen".....
low and behold it was....
so i wonder in the back of their mind if they want to see Android on iHardware.
Lol could I get a link to that site?

That's not Android on it...there is a actual Lockscreen mod like that in Cydia
What makes you assume that is an android unlock screen? (which it is not)
Sent from my HTC Glacier
You could make the same home screen using typo widget and widget locker its an iPhone using cydia its also a theme forgot which one.

I don't ever remember seeing this lock screen on Cydia. Atleast for my iPod.
well if it is there, and i take your word on it, i wonder if these (the android and iOS) apps are created by the same people.... they look way to similar.
I had that on my 3Gs when I had one...I used to have pictures on photo bucket but I just went through and deleted a bunch of my screen shots..doh

That's actually the Typography Lockscreen theme available in Cydia.
Also, Android has already been ported to the 1st Gen iPhone, iPhone 3G, and the iPod touch 1G.
(I used to be an iOS user since 2008.. Android got me in 2011. )

For Android, you would have to download the Typography widget, and then place it on your lockscreen using WidgetLocker as your new lockscreen. I have no idea how to theme the lockscreen, but I'm sure you can.
Who is a application developer that can help with an idea / project for an application. I just dont understand how to make apps for the phone.

I'm sure Ubuntu is at the top of the list. I have Opensuse 12.1 on mine. But I'm planning on installing another. Possibly Zorin 6 which is Ubuntu based, or Solusos. Just wondering what OS works best for you and why?
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda premium
Th3Bill will most likely miss this post as he has at least 7 builds on 3 devices right now but I know from working with him his favorite by a long shot is Arch Linux. I have a computer with Zorin and like it a lot, but I am not a developer. All the best !!
Huge fan of Ubuntu, you may not easily have 100% control or super minimal like other distros but it's still great to use in terms of user base, help, and PPAs
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda premium
Ubuntu Studio = Ubuntu with a bunch of music and video editing programs
Xubuntu = nice fast lightweight Ubuntu for older machines
Backtrack 5 or BlackBuntu = penetration testing, not really for development , but still fun
There are so many different distros, I just switched to Linux about a year ago and will never go back. I just run Windows in Virtual Box if needed.
I am interested to hear some response on some development Linux distros as well

I just tried Zorin 6 off live CD. I like it so far. Also like how play on comes with it so I can install some of my microsoft programs on there also.

+1 - haven't updated from Zorin 5 cause I like it so much, will get to it soon.
Just saw a vid on Ultimate Edition 3.4 that's based off of Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. Comes prepacked with a lot of apps and features. 3.2 gig download though.

The best distro is the one that installs and works with the least dicking around. Try a couple, pick one, and you'll be fine. They're all Linux, they'll all run Eclipse, and you can develop on anything.

Didn't show up for me within the app store on my phone, but found it in the playstore on PC and used the 'send to phone' feature to install it.
Intrigued as to whether this will intelligently save battery power or just shut down functionality of the phone.

Looks like it was directly ported from Windows 98.
It's geek enough for me. I don't mind having a desktop interface, as long as it enables me to work with the real thing.
I still have to decide whether I prefer this one, or Libre/OpenOffice over Ubuntu over linuxonandroid.org
