wipe internal storage - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
how can I wipe all the data from the internal storage of my TF101?
I am using the Rogue XM Recovery 1.3.0 atm
Thanks

Go into Android Revolution HD's OP and you can use the SuperWipe. But beware, make a back up of your internal on your PC, as there is no going back. When it is wiped, it is gone forever (insert evil laugh here).

which one u recommend:
Android Revolution HD or Ledroid?
Virtuous. It has an advanced pull down menu and Wi-Fi calling. But if it I must choose between those two I'd say LeeDroid. Used it for a bit before switching to Virtuous because I really needed those extra options in the pull down.
Virtuous is avaiable for HTC sensation?
+1 for virtuous. I'm running v1.0.1 and its very fast and stable. Can oc up to 1.8 ghz but its really unnecessary because this rom us perfectly smooth.

anyone else? can compare what have and dont have...
one more question, when u do FUll WIPE it will erase everything. now if we want to restore new rom we must turn on the phone and than put the .zip to the sd card than bot again and restore so my question is is there any method to do full wipe without removing .zip rom!?

Your SD Card doesn't need to be partitioned for a Sensation. But a wipe doesn't format your partition unless you specifically select it.

Where to save backups & the new rom before wipe/format?

My question is, what is being wiped/formated when i do so in recovery mode?
If i have the "new rom" in the sdcard, before flashing it, doesn't that get wiped?
And what about Titanium backups? Or if i want to keep a stock rom backup on my device just in case?
I know there are partitions and everything has it`s place...but still, wanna be absolutely sure.
Can someone please explain what's what?
Thank you

i'm pretty sure you get to keep everything but what's in youe /system/ folder.

Ok, that helps, but what does a factory rest ( from backup & rest menu ) do, and what does formating from recovery do? Does both only del the /system/?
What about what's in the /sdcard folder? There are cache folders there, does clearing cache and dalvik clears those as well ?
Just curious, what to learn and haven't found anything about it....
Thanks!

I havent tried it out with this tablet yet but on my phone it does NOT format sdcard neither the internal sdcard.
So I dont think you would loose data on the sdcard. (Though not 100% sure with this tablet)

So it should be safe to keep a stock backup anywhere but on /system folder..?!
What did you do when u flashed a new rom...if u did... should be the same principle i believe...

In my phone yes but like I said I haven't tried this out yet on my tablet
On my phone I flashed it normally:
First backup then wipe data then wipe cache and then wipe dalvik cache and then install rom

Yea and if you like you could backup and then restart tablet and plug it into your computer and copy the backup to a safe place

Yes don't do what I did and backed everyting up to the internal SD card thinking that waould be ok.. It ended up wiping everything. :silly:
I wasn't too happy either as I still haven't been able to get another copy of the tablet version of Firefox.

I`m confused a bit...
When installing a new Rom, some say; to wipe and format and clear cache and then install from zip....
So where do they keep the zip file if everything is getting wiped...?
same goes for Titanium backup, backups...
Thanks!

I thnk it depends on what recovery you're using to do this
here's what I did
titanium backup, everything to external SD card
install TWRP
make nandroid on external SD card
download rom
copy rom to external SD card
unmount/remove external SD card from tablet
in TWRP there was no option to format
so I cleared/wiped cash and dalvic
everything but the system folder was left intact
flash rom
reboot
everything is works great
but note most instructions say to format
I haven't been on CWM, but my guess is there's a format option in that recovery
Format would definetely wipe albsolutely everyting
compare to clear/wipe cashe and dalvik is not the same
yep, i'm not gonna risk loosing data... copy all backups to external microsd
and then format/factory rest.... and then copy Rom back to internal sdcard...and clear
cache...
better safe then sorry...
thanks

Ran into a problem installing JB rom EOS

Hello guys
I am new to the rooting scene and I ran into a little problem. I followed an instruction online to root my tablet (TF101) and got Rom Manager to work. I also flashed ClockworkMod by using the rom manager. I am trying to flash my rom into the Jelly Bean from EOS http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1782410. I did a full back up of my stock rom and ready to install the new rom. I put the downloaded file (from the link I put) into the root folder of the main SD. But when I try to install the rom from rom management, my tablet just reboots and nothing is installed. I really have no idea where to go from here. Please help !
I got it to install but now I am stuck at the boot screen! What now?

You have soft bricked the tablet...
Can you access CWM ?
then download the latest build of team eos (build 63)... create a folder in your external MMC and save it in there
Go to recovery/cwm and format factory settings/data, wipe cache wipe dalvik cache
Now install the ROM by navigating to the folder where you have saved the zip file and selecting it...

I had that issue a while ago...cwm recovery doesn't play that nicely with the tf101...I had to get team rogues specially altered cwm and hey presto, back in the game!

U just soft bricked your tablet... as long as you can access your recovery you should be OK... format your external mmc and then copy the latest version of eos and place it back into tablet... now wipe everything and flash it again you should be OK.. doesn't work then wipe and use AOSP JB... you will get it to work don't worry...

When you say mmc, are you talking about the micro SD card? I have been installing from the internal SD. Do you think that could have caused the problem? Also when you say format, do u mean delete everything and place the JB zip file directly into the micro SD?
Problem fixed. I just followed this guide and got a new CWM and that seems to work great
Here is the guide for anyone with the same problem.

It is okay to do a full format for your internal memory, if and only if you don't need anything on your SD card. Be sure to have copied everything you need to another storage before proceeding. But how can you flash a ROM from CWM if you formated everything. Just format after flashing the ROM not before.
Why you can't backup using CWM?

If the ROM is on an external sdcard, it shouldn't matter. still, that is good advice, as accidents happen. For instance, when i started using twrp I formatted my external sdcard instead of my internal, and lost my backups. Live and learn..

CWM will not backup my ROM and i think there might be some corruption on the SD card because CWM goes throught the motion of backing up the rom but says it cannot find SD card or SD ext.
Can i reinstall CWM over its-self?
thanks

Are you certain there is no backup? I know i have had it say something like, can not find SD ext skipping SD ext, or something, when using cwm, and it really didn't matter. Uhm, but yeah, you can always reflash it or try another custom recovery, like twrp.

What i have learned is that in JB 4.2. CWM put these backups in a safe place on the SD card (cannot find the with a file explorer) but when i use CWM to ro restore my image it does it 100%
Don't know how to backup to ext SD.
thanks

If you use Philz touch recovery you will find the option to backup to external sd. I don't remember if it's possible with Cwm too.

there is an option in cwn to backup to ext SD but is does not save it to SD or EXT SD so is this because CWM is corrupt?

Wiping internal storage (factory reset)

I am currently running CleanROM 7 and I'm looking to start fresh i.e. format both my S.D. card and internal storage. If I do the "factory data reset" from within the settings options should this do the trick? Will I be back to a fresh install of CleanROM after this? Or would you recommend wiping internal storage from recovery and then reflashing the ROM?
Thanks!

1. If you wipe everything in recovery, you're not going to have the .zip anymore (because it got wiped)
2. You can wipe it from the settings first to see if you like it

Ah, right. Well I already wiped my SD. So I guess I could just take the ROM and put it on the SD then wipe internal with TWRP and install the ROM from SD
