Does flashing a new ROM (cm10) replace my kernel? Just curious because I currently have BeastMode Kernel and i know it isn't compatible with CM10. Should I flash a stock kernel first? or will flashing the ROM replace the kernel anyway.
Flashing cm10 will automatically replace the kernel so your good man!

If you look in the clean Rom preview thread he has the stock kernel posted. I will add a link when I get home to his thread if you have trouble finding it.

You can also just backup your current kernel in TWRP recovery, and restore it if your new kernel doesn't work out. Select "backup" in recovery and checkmark "boot" to backup your kernel only.

What ROMs can I run with hboot 1.14?I am on T-Mobile update 2.35.531.7 .I have tried a few and can not get WiFi to work .I do not want to downgrade the hboot .

You may want to try the Energy ROM. It's based off of T mobile 2.35 software.
In the alternative you can try aosp ROMs like Jellybam. I think that should work.. Not 100 percent sure though.

Jellybam is the one I want to use. I will give it a try. But would like someone to confirm that it works

It works great! Amazing ROM. You can use it as a daily driver.
Just make sure to also fastboot flash the boot.img from the ROM seperately. Or try Fusion 3.1 custom kernel. So after flashing the rom, go back into bootloader and fastboot the relevant boot.img (can be extracted from the rom zip itself).
If you are coming from stock or from a SENSE based ROM, you will need to do this since SENSE kernels are not compatible with AOSP type ROMs.
So just follow the download instructions in the development thread about Jellybam. I find battery life is OK, but not as good as say, using a plain old ICS ROM with Zarboz's custom SENSE kernel.
Thanks for the tips.I have flashed ROMs before with this phone and had no problems. But I went back to stock with a ruu and don't understand why it is such b---h to get new ROMs WiFi to work. I have been reading for days and no real answer.. About to flash jellybam and will hope for the best......

Got it to work again. Everything is going great. Jellybam is an excellent rom

All ROMs will work except the Stock Jellybean ROMs which need you to flash WiFi partitions. You have the 1.14 hboot which won't let you flash those partitions and hence no WiFi.
Downgrade your hboot and you will be fine..

Jellybam battery life is not that great can anyone suggest a cm10 based or asop rom that has good reviews and battery life. What about pa 2.56.

I've looked and can't find anything to help me with this question. But what custom kernels are compatible with ViperXL 3.1.0? And can the kernel be flashed after the Rom had already been flashed? Or do they have to be flashed at the same time. I don't have the hboot that you have to flash boot.img. Thanks in advance guys!

At the moment there is only the stock kernel, Elemental gives you the option to overclock etc.
Oh, okay then. Thanks! I'm sorry if I created a meaningless thread.

I want to flash a kernel for CM10 but it keeps either bootlooping or goes to "Android is upgrading...". I don't know what I am doing wrong but its always come to that. Am I doing something wrong? Can someone help me?
Is it cm 10 or cm 10.1? And which kernel is it?
Cm10 and its rohan's kernel.

just use [APP] Flash Image GUI - Flash Kernels and Recoveries from normal Android mode!
or flash the boot.img with fastboot then flash the zip in twrp for the modules, make sure to wipe cache and dalvik
Okay I will try that but I thought s-off made it so that you don't have to flash the boot.IMG. (I have s-off)

it does. are you flashing gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip for cm10? try fixing permissions in twrp.
I did flash gapps but I'll try fixing permissions.
[Edit]
Fixing the permissions didn't work.

Hey i was just wondering if i could flash the EternityProject Kernel on my htc one x with cm 10.1.
Can anyone tell me if this will work without any problems?
[ PS. I'm a noob ]
First, belongs in Q and A. Second, I don't see a team eternity kernel. Make surr that it isn't for the international version.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Yeah I don't think such a kernel exists for the XL.
