Droid 4.1.1 and VPN Issues - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I upgraded my Xoom USA Wifi to 4.1.1 from a previously rooted ICS. I had to flash it myself because it did not upgrade automagically. I used the Kernel 2.6.39.4 and the build number is JRO03H (I've always used just the standard ROMs - nothing fancy). In ICS I had no issues with my VPN connection, but Jelly Bean is vexing me. I get a "timed out" on all my connections that previously worked. By connections I mean L2TP/IPSec with a pre-shared key. PPTP does not work at all.
Is my problem with the Jelly Bean or with my provider (Witopia - they can't fix it on their end). Any ideas?

Try using the default iptables. I don't think JB is able to use their tables yet. I had the same problem with orbit.

Nitpicking but its "Android" not "Droid."
Droid is a proprietary name, licensed by Lucasfilm Ltd. that Verizon pays to use on some of their devices (Droid, Droid X, Droid Incredible, Droid Xyboard).

[Q] Xoom Wifi Direct capable?

I'm curious if anyone has seen any information on whether the Xoom will have the wifi direct certification that came out last fall; it would be a nice little added feature that I would be glad to see start showing up in more devices. It doesn't seem like many have talked about it so far though but the possibilities are pretty amazing.
For those that don't know what it is, WiFi direct is like a streamlined Ad-hoc connection protocol for wifi that lets devices "talk" to each other directly without the need for a router. (think bluetooth, but with wifi strengths) Some good usecases for it would be to directly connect to a computer to transfer files, stream things or basically communicate in any way directly. I'm personally pretty excited about using it.
Here's a link to the wifi alliance page that talks about it:
http://www.wi-fi.org/Wi-Fi_Direct.php
Nope, the official Moto spec sheet doesn't mention it, but who knows...
There is wifi direct in Team EOS ICS 4.0.3 Wingray MZ604 NIGHTLIES. I just checked this on my Xoom with build 78 and it is here.

Not entirely. I spent the last week getting full functionality. However, not all of the modifications are in the nightlys. Partly because Google has not fully developed the advanced settings menu. Just know this, xoom is fully capable of all that wifi-direct has to offer. And eos will likely be the first android build with full implementation.

A much-deserved donation will be coming your way on payday.

Solution for T-mobile US Wifi Calling on ICS Roms?

Hello,
I have a Sensation 4G and having flashed many different ICS Based ROMs (CoreDroid, Android Revolution HD, RCMix etc) and it seems that the Wifi Calling does not work due to the fact the app is not compatible with ICS. Now that the first HTC Device running ICS has been released (THE ONE S) I assume this has the updated wifi calling app that would work on the Sensation ICS Roms. I have been trying to get the Rom so I can extract the Wifi Calling App but so far no luck. Anyone think this is worth a shot?
Trying to find a way to get Wifi Calling working on our Sensation with ICS!
Thanks Devs you are a talented bunch!
Any ICS rom I try that includes wifi calling, it works fine.

Well considering the One S on T-Mobile does NOT support WiFi calling yet, I'd say no, its not worth a shot. The app is not present on the T-Mobile software currently running on the One S.
Remember WiFi calling is from tmob not HTC and they have not updated it yet so just wait for a bit but yeah if we want WiFi calling that's were we will get it from

The T-Mobile branded HTC One S does have Wifi Calling. Out of the box. The difference is, in my understanding, that it is now baked into the ROM. It is no longer a separate app.
The ZDNet review mentions using it on the device, for example (sorry, not allowed to post links), google it, it's from April 18.
I've used it...the software I saw did NOT have support YET (at least not on the demo/review unit I saw). I know it definitely is going to support it though, especially with the eventual launch of T-Mobile's gen 2 WiFi calling. As for the ZDnet article I can't comment, as I haven't read, and don't plan to read it, however, I will say that I saw the unit personally before April 18, so maybe software has updated in anticipation of tomorrow's launch.
Either way the best bet for pulling the updated libs and app is the newly leaked Amaze 4G ICS build here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1615164
Thank you so much Behold_this, your a genius! I'm going to see if I can find the Wifi Calling libs and modules and app and report back with any luck.
As of my testing, The ICS roms with sense 3.6 for the sensation 4g has had the Wifi Calling problem where it crashes when you make / receive a phone call. The wifi calling app works for SMS and MMS messages fine though. Just not phone calls.
The updated version will be better compatible with ICS.
Just remember to deodex the Rom before you pull the app
Thanks again for the advice. I have not been able to successfully figure out which apps / libs need to be pulled and deodexed. Still promising though

[Q]When is the 3G 4G Xoom going to get Ice Cream get Ic

When is 3G 4G Xoom going to get Ice cream?
i been asking that forever. I don't know what the deal is with Verizon not pushing out updates. I just don't get it. From what I read on Droid life is its ready to go but up to big red to push it out.
Just like the gnexus still stuck on 4.02 first carrier to have the phone last one to push out the ota WoW
Yeah it's very annoying. The problem is Verizon's testing procedures (or so I've been told) are VERY strict. Add to the fact that the Xoom isn't a priority device for VZW anymore, and yeah...we continue to wait. The WiFi-only Xoom has had ICS since December, and (again, so I've heard), Google had the ICS ROM for the 3G/4G Xoom ready not long after that. To add further insult to injury, Google and VZW pushed out an update to the 4G Xoom in February that was just a Honeycomb update (3.2.6) to fix data connectivity coming out of airplane mode. Annoying.
With the Galaxy Nexus, at least two 4.0.4 builds have been pushed to devices as part of a soak test (IMM30B and IMM76K), but neither made the cut apparently. But since they went out over the air, we have the files and can run those if we want to. With the Xoom, there hasn't even been so much as a soak test, that we're aware of anyway.
I wish I knew as well.
I've tried all of the custom ROMs and have had problems with each one. I've gone back to the Honeycomb stock ROM in each instance. As snappy & nice as the ICS is with the custom ROMs, the stock Honeycomb has been the most stable ROM ever, imho. I'm very excited about ICS coming out, but only if it's as rock solid as Honeycomb is. I'll wait a couple of more months so that VzW can get it right the first time.
Definitely. That Honeycomb 3.2.6 stock ROM is solid as a brick ****house. That's why I love it.
Don't know about you but I have had ICS on my Xoom for a while. Thanks Team EOS. And it is much better than anything Verizon would put out.

The stock ROM on the Verizon Xoom is still created and updated by Google. It just needs VZW approval before it gets released. TeamEOS isn't stable enough for my liking. Tried playing SimCity lately?

What's wrong with SimCity? (I don't game, so I'm really asking.)
Is the real issue perhaps merely that the game's not ICS-tablet-aware?

It freezes constantly. It'll run fine, then all of a sudden just hang forever, giving you the wait/force close dialog box. I don't think it's an ICS or app issue since people running stock ICS on the WiFi Xoom say it works fine.

Interesting. I haven't seen any indications of that in the main EOS threads.
Did you see anyone else collaborating this issue? Were you overclocked at all? Also, at one point we switched to overclocking the GPU by default, and I wonder if that's the issue (after all, my kernel improvements wouldn't have made any difference to a game, and we're nearly stock in anything else that matters).
I wasn't overclocked. OC always makes me nervous! Could be with the GPU...not sure. What I do know is that the issue was still there as of the stable 2.0.0 release.

Uh, didja maybe check here on XDA?
My answer is "never." VZW will never release ICS for this thing. It was seriously doomed from the start.
That said, EOS has created an excellent stingray rom. Again, STINGRAY. And again, EXCELLENT rom. I'm not playing SimCity, but the Sims works very well and since the app was updated, it works even better. It was freezing on restart but now it doesn't do it anymore, which is something to say about how solid EOS' rom is--a problem with the app and not the rom.

Oh dear, not this again. Last year it was "We'll never get LTE" and/or "We'll never have writable SD-Card". It's obvious the tech is there, most likely it's due to either compliance issues (and with VZ that probably means they're trying to lock something down or take something away in the ROM they're intending to release ... the bastards) or they're waiting 'till some as-yet-unannounced LTE tablet(?) device comes out first. Apparently there's a ROM in testing at VZ, if the leaked screenshot has any credibility.

Kakaotalk on Android

Anyone using this app on Android experiencing major battery drain?
I am using a Nexus S, flashed with the latest CM9 Nightly build. The app drains 15% of my battery life even when I only occasionally use it. I can't uninstall it cause its the only chat app that some of my friends use.
I have emailed the developer about this issue about 6 months ago, but they still havent addressed it. Is there anything else I can do?
No one uses Kakaotalk here on JB or ICS?

I am also using it on the Galaxy Nexus GSM running Jelly Bean ROM 4.1.1 it does not matter what ROM I use I cannot connect to Kakaotalk server. I always get the symbol that says I am connected but as soon as I try and send someone a messege than it says that it is not connected....It only does this when I am connected to WiFi when when I connect to 2g or 3g it works just fine. I am using Kakaotalk 3.3.3 and I have emaied Kakaotalk about the issue and they told me that they dont have support for ICS or Jelly Bean right now. There is no timeline when they will start to support the 4.0+ ROMS. I have started to use Whatsapp as an alt until they fix it. If anyone else figures this out please let me know thanks.

Hi, as @Shadows... said : since your using CM10, you should not have any trouble turning wifitether on. Just turn it on in settings.
FYI, if you don't want to download any apps that will definitely give you a bunch of craps, I recommend you flash this ROM :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2074328
It's based on the stock ATT Jelly Bean, but WAY BETTER ! Lots of toggles, smart-stay....There is technically nothing different from the original leaked J.B, except this one is a lot better.
There is no hassle turning wifi-tether on !
If you don't want to flash this rom, download : Easy wifi tethering. It always works for me. But since its a free app, it gives you a lot of ads that will appear on your home screen.
tether no longer working on JB based roms?
Okay my wifi tether was working great on Mohans 5.0 ics rom, but now since upgrading to 6.1 JB, my wifi tether stop working! I tried using the native wifi tether under settigs..no luck.
