how to remove skins older roms

so what happened is i tried to install the rom Tranquility but it did not work, so i tried installing 928Droid black glass theme first so that i would be deodexed and then i tried installing tranquility over it. and it did work. but one thing that is annoying is the ugly skin that black glass puts on the facebook and twitter widget is still there now that i have tranquility. but its not really a big deal but it makes facebook and twitter look really ugly, so i want to know if there is a way i can stay on tranquility and remove this ugly black glass facebook / twitter theme. will i have to wipe data. and the fb twitter skin is the only thing that stayed from when i flashed tranquility over black glass

Try using Root Explorer. Go into /system/app and find both Facebook and Twitter.. Rename them from .apk to .bak, now go and install them from Market. Hopefully this helps.

If Im not mistaken, there should be a Deodexed version of Tranquility floating around. You will have to wipe but you can always do an advanced resore of data from your previous backup so you wont have to go through all that headache again. Have you tried any of the other blurless ROMs? Im on APEX and it is deodexed, blurless, and blazing fast. Maybe some of the Senior members can jump in and help us out with some feedback as well. Im a little curious now as to why you may still be having these problems.

So I've come up empty as well. Here is what I tested on my X and it worked. Downloaded the 2.2 OTA Deodexed here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=794007
Then Grabbed the Tranquility download and Installed. Everything went off without a hitch.
Here are other people that had success as well.
http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/...ty-2-3-5rc-completely-deodexed-ota-2-2-a.html
Hopefully this at least points in the right direction.
FYI any version of TranQ is deodexed. and even if your /system is not deodexed it will deodex it for you.
IMO tho you are better off installing a deodex /system first then install TranQ over it. reaosn being is that wya you know you have a deodexed /system before hand just incase TranQ took a crap doing it during the install process.
BTW IMO there is no reason to wipe data when changing ROMs. I've tried and test just about every X ROM out there and have yet to wipe data on any install. There really is no reason to. All these ROMs are only touching /system and have nothing to do with the /data partition. It is not like back on the Droid where they were full custom ROMs when it was required to do so. The only time I'd wipe data is if you are having an issue otherwise it is not needed.

That is good to know. I think I have just been accustomed to doin the full wipe because of my old Droid. I also see a lot of the ROM developers request it.

[Q] Flash ONLY Market

Hello. I'm thinking of re-installing some rom which doesn't have the gapps pre-installed. Thing is, I want to INSTALL ONLY THE MARKET. I tried pushing the apk into system/app/ but it won't load the app.
Does anyone know how to flash only the market?
How about using the Amazon market?

The flashable gapps doesn't only contain the Google apps. Also contains the services needed. Download the flashable gapps, and delete with 7zip or whatever software the apps that you are SURE you don't want, like for example gmail. The apk's you don't know what they are, keep them because they are needed (Google services). I don't remember the names now but I can take a look if you want to. Then flash it.

What kind of errors? I understand you have CM7, right?
I will upload the CM7 gapps only with market in some minutes and you try it.
EDIT: Added GApps with only Market and required things for CM7 Gingerbread! If you use CM6 Froyo tell me. It's not signed now, but from what I remember you can flash it anyway. If not, sign it or tell me.

What device do you have?
I got an HTC Magic. Running Diet Gingerbead. Was running CM7 1 month ago.
Flashing this file works on this rom or only for CM7?
Oh, the zip file doesnt work. It says verification failed.

[RESOLVED] [Q] Bloat removal script in flashable zip format for AOSP ROM's?

Anyone have a link to a flashable zip that removes bloatware, that will work in 4.3 AOSP ROM's?
I can't seem to get my old one to work anymore. Maybe because it was for 4.1?

JUst use Titanium backup and freeze any apps you don;t want to use. Really not worth the effort. Unused app really don;t bother anything.

Ehh, freezing or uninstalling apps via Titanium takes a LOT longer than just flashing a removal zip. Especially when you're uninstalling about 20-30 apks like I do.
I flash a lot, and not just my phone but my friends as well.
So this method saves me a lot of time:
1) Flash ROM
2) Flash Gapps
3) Flash Bloatkiller
4) Reboot
5) Flash Titanium Backup batch zip of all apps/data
Anyways, I don't need a bloat zip anymore. I couldn't get my old script to work, so I just added all my delete lines to an existing Gapps zip. Which removes step #3 above.
So it flashes my Gapps and removes bloat, all in one zip. Should have just done it this way to begin with! :good:
And OMG I save sooooo much time & frustration by doing things this way.
Now if I can just figure out how to get the TB batch zip to flash immediately after flashing the ROM, then I can use TWRP queue flash to flash all three zips back-to-back with just one swipe.

Possible to create a flashable of apps+data for new ROM install?

Is it possible to create a simple flashable zip of all my apps and app data so when I install a new ROM all I have to do is flash the zip to have all my apps and data back?

I don't know if it works with Lollipop, but that feature has been in TiBu forever. With the Pro version, it does it all at once, with the free version you have to tap OK to restore each app. If you want to see how it's done, I did a screencast in the MOAR FAQ.

Be sure to thank RAMER!
EDIT: Confused a bit at the end... after clean install, we wait for the initial boot/set-up and then flash the update zip?

I usually do it rom and the update.zip at the same time so that Google doesn't start downloading my apps.

dont think you really thinking this through properly. The time taken to honestly reflash a rom is way faster than removing apps believe me. Also in stock you have to remove two files since its odex file system.
Now with that said you could of just google searched safe apps to remove from system and be done with it but believe me all this back and forth is longer than just downloading pico gapps from pa booting into recovery simply wipe /system and then reflash rom and gapps.... But dont believe me I have only been doing this for like 8 years now...
