Motoactv - General Questions and Answers

Hello Ladies and Gents,
I am planning on getting a Motoactv in the next couple of days - using it for a cycling computer. Mainly I want one though as it can be rooted and I reckon it will be pretty damn cool to have an android device on your wrist
Anyways, I have read quite a lot of threads about modding the software on the devices but does anybody know if anybody (or if it is even possible) to upgrade the RAM? It currently only has 256mb, but would be amazing if this could be upgraded
Just an idea.
Cheers

Flashing LG Cookie to Android

So I recently got a second-hand LG Cookie and I was wondering if I could flash it to Android. I've looked around on the Interwebz but nobody seems to have any useful information.
Can you guys help me out?
Thanks in advance.
Sorry, but not even by a long shot.
Android needs to be ported to the device for it to even run on that specific phone. It's taken well over 6 months to get a somewhat working version of Android on the Rhodium, and that's with many capable developers and one of the most popular smartphones sold in a while. I'm somewhat doubtful that Android will be ported to your device, so I'll guess that you'll never get and Android port, let alone a flashable version.
It has more to do with the phone only having 48MB of internal NAND.

[Q] Should I buy the HD2? Jan 11

Hi guys.
i know some people will say this has been asked before, but i am posting from the date from today.
I want to buy a HD2, but i don't know whether it is the right time...
Because now it has the success of WP7 and Android, I'm wondering if ti is still worth it. The hardware seems abit old now, but it is essentially the same as a HD7.
ATM, i have a TG01, (snapdragon 1GHz WINMO, resistive) So i'm experienced with the speed But however, in our forum, there are soo few active members and cooks - not much support. the resistive touchscreen and Also the lack of RAM is driving me insane. (only 55mb on boot with sense 2.5 + winmo 6.5.x) So one reason of the HD2 is the RAM and the screen... On the other hand i have a tab. It isnt just mine specifically it is my family's. So i dont get to use it all the time and personalize it. (the orange san francisco isnt mine anymore btw, i gave it to my brother)
So i only really have a TG01. I have been using Winmo for a long time, but now everyone is making the switch to Android. So if i get the HD2, will i have good battery life performance etc. I will probs be using WP7 and Android. Is WP7 working perfectly yet? i know we can access the live sevices but will microsoft be continually be patching it? All my friends are using android.. should i use android on the HD2 or just get an android device?
And the hardware... do you think it is still powerful enough? how much longer will the community last for? When i got my Tg01, within 3 months the XDA forum was empty! they all sold and got an Android device or HD2.
So i get it know will the timing be right? Will devs still be cooking for WM and upgrading Android etc? Or will they move on? Because i see alot of members selling their HD2 for a DHD or other android devices. I dont think i can afford a DHD...
I'm really stuck here... I don't know if i should get the device or not... Should i wait? Or wait for what device? I know when the dual cores come out, they will be far too expensive!
Where can i get a cheap HD2 from? Can any one point me to one £150-£180?
Thank you to all who reply!

Sub $100 tablets?

Hi everyone. I have a 4 year old who keeps taking my phone and my kids (his older brother and sister) ipod touches. He uses them to play games and go on youtube. I've been looking online for a cheap tablet for him to have and on craigslist there are a few for sale in my area for anywhere from $75-$100. I want to know if anyone has any experience with these cheaper android tabs. There's one by Sylvania and some others that just say ePad.
Does anyone have any experience with these and if so, do you think it will be ok for a 4 year old? Keep in mind, it doesn't have to be anything special. Just something that can play youtube and games like angry birds.
Any information is appreciated.

Well you'd probably be best googling the models and seeing if they are real. I had a friend who got a fake off ebay. They work alright. Not great for myself. But if they are a proper tablet I don't see you having any problem as long as its not a scam haha

Hmm just had a quick Google of the sylviana branded tablet you mentioned and from what I read it seems to function alright. Some are having problems but seems to be functional haha. Sorry if its what you already know

A scam on craigslist? Never.
Being serious though, I did do some searching on google and with the information I got it figured it would be better to come ask the experts. I really dont care about the software that's installed on these tabs as long as they can be rooted and/or have access to the android market. Its just more important to me that they run decently. They are not very expensive but it's still money and I would like to know what I'm getting into.

Hey,
I was recently setting up a home network for a co-worker and she "paid" me by giving me a White 7" Pandigital Novel "eReader". Its android based and from what I can tell it can be rooted and used as a low cost alternative to an Android tablet. They sell for as low as $100. I haven't decided what I'm going to do with my own since I just got a HTC Inspire 4G...
Guess I can try and hack it. I can let you know how well it takes being rooted.
Please do let me know. I would really appreciate it.

Hey,
Sorry for the delay but I got a little busy with school. I was able to sit down for a bit with the White Pan digital Novel and I must say I was impressed. Due to the extremely low cost and decent spec of this machine it has gotten a lot of love from developers. Its extremely easy to flash ROM's for root access (just place .ZIP on SDCARD, remove internal SD, boot to recovery, and flash it). The guys over at Slatedroid even put Cyanogenmod 6.x on it.
I tested a number of ROM's but most had weird issues. The Slatedriod Cyanogenmod 6.x ROM actually only ran crisp (for now) in landscape mode. Its a bit too weak to play games from Android Market and that's assuming the the ROM you choose has a working Market (most don't by default). They used a mod called the non-ugly hack to fix this I think. Another issue with a lot of these ROM's involved the wifi going into a infinite loop, repeatedly turning itself on and off. Despite the fact that I love Cyanogenmon on my Optimus V, I had to find another full time ROM.
That's when I stumbled across an Eclair-based ROM ported from teh popular Cruz Reader. It was awesome. Smooth in all view modes and even video ran great on the thing. I haven't attempted to OC the device yet, but I would assume it would only make it better. This ROM is rooted of course, and had a working Android Market (and Cruz Market) installed from the start. With this ROM the device becomes a comparable tablet, far exceeding the value placed on its tag. Just use regular apps to manage the power usage and overclock it with Set CPU or something and you'll have quite a machine for $50 something .
A big downside is that for an "eReader" the battery life was horrid, a little better than an android phone (and that's even with the stock ROM). You are going to have to hack this thing to get any decent performance out of it as the stock ROM is laggy. The rooting worked for fixing a lot of these issues.
Em still a bit unfamiliar with the rules on posting links to other forums here, so I wont. Let me know if you have any questions on need the links and we'll set up some sort of arrangement.
Thanks for that info. Gives me a lot to consider. I may end up getting one of those units.

Hi All! And some advice needed

Hi everyone,
If you haven't guessed already from my username, my name is Tom, I'm 16 and I have a bit of a question. But first off I'll tell you a little about myself, I'm 16 attending college (reside in the UK), and hold a very large interest in Computing and Mobile Devices. I am also an avid coder taking Computer Science as one of my courses this year and probably the next. And I wanted to get into mobile devices a bit more than I had after being bored to death with the restrictions iOS have on the user. But hey, I want to come back to android...
But onto my question, if you had to choose between the Razr I or the Galaxy Nexus, what would you choose? I have put some pros and cons below that I have found when using these phones for a couple of minutes in store.
GNex-
Love the screen, audio seems allot cleaner and the direct ports from Google are a real attraction.
However, I don't like the plastic finish (I could change my mind and grow on it), the battery life or the non-expandable storage.
Razr-
Love the styling and finish, expandable storage and the amazing battery life.
But the screen res isn't that great, the fact that it still hasn't had jelly bean ported to it yet is rather annoying, and even then it’s not 4.2.1 (Google haven't seemed to have touched the upgrade dept. after they bought it)
Amway, let me know what you think. And I hope that my stay here is a long and enjoyable one..
Tom
bro u cant compare a nexus to any other devices..
pure aosp
hell lot of developer support
frequent updates
leave aside razr
and mate plz ask a short question next time
