I am just wondering why it would be difficult to make an android tablet at this size (screen resolution issues in ICS, etc)? And wouldn't the Chinese manufacturers like to sell something like this (much higher profit margins, as Samsung, etc ain't making tablets this big).

Tablets were made to be portable. Making tablets of such sizes would eliminate that purpose. There are no compatibility problems, its just this being a fact. Sales on such tablets would not be high and this can be easily seen for Toshiba's Excite tab. Just look at it's sales compared to the Nexus 7 (the Nexus destroys it).
Non-ipads aren't selling all that well in general, and at that size the market would be marginal at best.
As Theon says, 11-12 inches probably pushes it in terms of portability.

I am after a Galaxy Tab but I keep switching between wanting a 10 inch and wanting a 7 inch. The thing is, I definitely prefer the screen size of the 10 inch. I saw someone on the train this morning with an iPad 2 reading a PDF on it and I could immediately see the advantage of the screen size for this. I have several technical PDFs which will be the first thing that I put on it.
However, I need to commute with this device and the 7 inch tablets seem far better due to their size and weight. They just seem more practical and I even question whether a 10 inch would fit in my bag (it should do but it'll be a tight squeeze). I've noticed that Adobe Reader has a text flow feature which seems to work reasonably well (but not perfectly) which helps with these large PDFs.
I suppose I am the only one that can really answer which one is best for me but I wondered if anyone went through a similar dilemma and what decision they made? Was it the right decision?
In a way, the 8.9 is probably the perfect compromise but they are way too expensive here in the UK. To qualify that statement, I can only afford a 10.1 by buying a manufacturer refurbished unit and there don't seem to be any 8.9 refurbs on the market.
you posted in a tab 7+ forum which is why you would mostly get biased anwers. anyways, i hate 10 inch tablets 'cause they're too big. but one time, i also considered buying the GTab 10.1. however, by reading the 10.1 forum, I've read a lot of negative feedbacks on how much it lagged, etc. Try visiting the General section of the GTab 10.1.

Specifically look for the processor power. GTab+ has a Dual Core Exynos 1.2GHz while the GTab 10.1 only has a Dual Core Tegra 1GHz. You can also look around the web why Exynos is better and faster than Tegra 2. I think the only reason why Tegra is better is because of the Tegra Games which BTW can also be played on Exynos chipsets by using the Chainfire 3d app (FREE).
Now if size and weight matters, it would always boil down to your preferences. If you like heavy, expensive, large screen, not-so-thin tablets, buy the GTab 10.1. But if you adore the little, light, not-so-expensive, thin tablets, buy the GTab+.
You would be surprised how much this little thing can do for you.

10.1 isn't exactly expensive - since it's been around longer, you can find refurbs for less than the Tab Plus.
It's really a matter of preference - the Plus has a better CPU, the 10.1 has a better screen (higher resolution, larger size), although the "larger size" aspect of the 10.1 isn't always a positive.
I've never found my 10.1 laggy

The only thing that kept this device from being a better device was the GPU not designed to support the 1080p for pushing anything efficiently except video.
Surprised there has not been an update yet with a better GPU and memory channel efficiency. Seems the newer Qualcomm chips woud work great if the wait is Tegra 4 mass availability, which is being allocated first to Nvidia's Shield.
I suspect the Infinity hasn't sold enough to warrant them making a new one. Their cheaper devices including the nexus 7 have done much better.

The TF700 is not even one year old, and most other tablets still have crappy 1280*800 screens.
The only current device that looks interesting is the Sony Xperia Tablet Z - with a Snapdragon S4 Pro and 2 GB RAM, the same 1920*1200 screen resolution as our Infinity, thin and light, and even waterproof. No "transformer" dock though.

I think you may be right. The Infinity was a bit pricey, but I don't regret for a second going for it instead of a lower-res tablet. And the Nexus 7 is a great piece of hardware, but as I was looking into a laptop replacement, it wouldn't have been a choice (too small a screen, no dock, even if there are external keyboards available).
Maybe they'll make another premium device in a year or so. With Tegra 4 or some other latest-gen SoC. And maybe I'll be wanting to upgrade then. If one were to come out right now, it would be way too soon for me
That's because the hardware isn't outdated yet.
There are only 2 or 3 other Full HD screens (1280x800 is not Full HD. 1080 and above is.) out there. Barely any competition. (Apple doesn't count.)
There are no new advancements in terms of displays (meaning the change from LCD to LED.)
There is no Tegra 4 yet.
There is no significant improvement in battery.
There are no 128GB internal drives.
There are no other dock-intergrated devices out there that aren't Asus; and the W8 versions are a step back, not forward. (you can't set it on your lap.)
There have been no extreme camera improvements to warrant a new device.
So what would a new version add? The only thing it could change would be to add another GB of RAM, a different storage because of the I/O issues, an even higher resolution which will cause even more lag, and a Snapdragon, which won't happen as Transformers have always used Tegra.
So there is nothing to really improve on; Asus isn't officially acknowledging the I/O issues.
Agreed on the Sony. I have a TF300 32gb with dock and iPad 4 128gb. The iPad is a lot faster device and better battery life (even when counting the dock), but love the emulator options and easier file transfer on the TF300.
Next tab will be 1080p Android.
I think they re-tooled for the Win8 devices for a bit as well so they probably are busy with that.
I would guess that they are waiting for Tegra 4 to enter mass production. I would love to see a Snapdragon 800 tablet though.

I just wanted to ask around and see if anyone has gotten any of these "Chinese" tablets. (I think most of them are made in china but anyways) I used to have a nexus 7 (first gen) but wasn't happy with the lack of expandability (storage and such). I don't really want to spend a lot of money on a tablet as I won't be using it much and the main thing I will be using it for is watching movies and shows on the go. These are either my personal rips, netflix, or dish anywhere, etc. These "chinese" tablets seem to have what I want as far as screen size, resolution, memory expandability and processing specs. The downside is there aren't many professional reviews of them and the ones on amazon seem to be from one end of teh spectrum to the other. The ones I was looking at are...

I see no reason for this. I have yet to find an Android tablet that has equivalent or better specs than say a Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy S 4, LG G2, etc.
It seems all these tablets have just 1GB of RAM on average (some have 2) and a dual-core CPU at most and are usually less than 2 GHz.
What REALLY bothers me is that tablets don't have 1080p displays. I fail to see the logic in this. Even the brand new Galaxy Note 8 or Tab 3 have 1280x800 displays. It is more expensive to shove 1920x1080 into a 5-inch or smaller screen than a freaking 7" to 12" screen. Also, would it not make more sense to add MORE pixels to a bigger screen to have a sharper image? These smaller phones that have 1080p displays are overkill because there is nearly no visible difference. I went from an S 3 with a 720p display to an S 4 with a 1080p and I see no difference. It seems these companies are doing everything bass-ackwards.
And how is it that they can't put a quad-core Snapdragon 800 into a tablet? Derp???
It's cheaper to make things bigger when it comes to silicon dies and chipsets.

I think it's better to look at this in terms of business.
There is more demand for smartphones than there is for tablets because everyone needs a smartphone but not everyone wants a tablet because phones such as Galaxy Note have replaced tablets and combined the experience of having a large display and multitasking. So I think that manufacturers look to doing more research and development on smartphones due to demand.
However, this doesn't go to say that tablets can't have better hardware. Tablets can be as fast as phones and not only in terms of RAM memory, if you rationally look at the products you'll find that there also needs to be upgraded CPU, GPU and screens which obviously require more power. Conclusively all I can really think of is that businesses look to maximise profits with least costs and it's cheaper to produce smartphones than it is to produce tablets and there is also more demand in the smartphone market than there is in the tablet market.

Hi all,
I have an Android tablet at the moment (Asus Memopad HD 7) and it has been a great little tablet however I'm on the lookout for a new, slightly bigger tablet. The reason being, I read a lot of medical books on it and the aspect ratio is not the most ideal. It gets the job done, but once I saw the 4:3 tablets by chance on Google Images, it was love at first sight.
I'm a fan of the Chinese tablets (Aoson, Hisense, Teclast, Chuwi, Pipo, etc) and am seriously considering importing one as I've bought a Chinese mini-PC (Vensmile IPC002) before and it's a pure joy to use (transformed my entertainment center).
Anyways, I digress. Here are the specs I would like (but will consider others, I know there's no such thing as a "perfect match"):
7.9" screen 4:3 aspect ratio (iPad mini style, etc)
2GB / 4 GB RAM
32GB RAM ( or more but no less) including a microSD card slot
Windows 10 (or 8.1) dual boot with Android (but a single Windows OS is fine too)
Cherry trail processor (again, will settle for Bay Trail but as a last resort)
GPS (highly preferred)
3G (not a must, but welcome)
Everything else is a bonus and not a deal-breaker.
The iPad Mini is absolutely wonderful but I cannot stand iOS. I'm well aware of the Samsung Tab S2 however not only is the price more than what I'm willing to spend, Android-only for that price is not a decent deal in my opinion, especially with the much cheaper dual-OS similar-spec (some even better) tablets out there.
I welcome all suggestions and/or recommendations.
