You should probably send him over to the Endeavor forum to increase his choices. He can flash one of theirs and tell us how it worked out

That's not funny.

I'm not a newbie I came from a s2 skyrocket I'm just unfamiliar with this device and don't want to hard brick it

You don't want to stray out of this set of forums. International one x roms could easily brick your phone.

Sorry I could not resist. Back to being a good boy now.

Until we get the kernel source for the 4.0.4 I think sense 4.1 based roms are going to give the best performance and battery life. I do prefer aosp based roms but what is the point if you end up sacrificing all the things that aosp roms are supposed to give you just to get away from sense.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2

Yea I ended up going with aokp 4.0.4 and well after a day I actually missed some things from sense so went back to my backup
I think the reason I was skeptical of sense was because of touchwiz on my old skyrocket
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app

What ROM did you decide on? I flashed pretty much all the available ROMs for our phone and found myself coming back to CleanROM 4.5. The CleanMODS definitely adds value and it's very good on battery too. Usually get about 16hours of moderate use and she's down to about 35% at the end of the day.
Also, Sense 4.0/4.1 is much better than any of the other OEM skins (TouchWIZ, Blurr, etc..) as it's the most intuitive of all the skins. Prefer it to AOSP Android now because it's just as snappy with so much functionality included. Ran AOSP ROMs on my old DZ because Sense 2.0, 2.1, 3.0, 3.5 were all crap and bloated; as soon as Sense 4.0 came out, it was like HTC finally got the message.

+1 for CleanRom.
Do your homework. The ScottsRoms CleanRom 4.5 DE had everything I wanted and nothing else to bog it down.
I'm also an APEX believer now for the fact that it restored my desktop after an upgrade.

Cm7 is fast and quite customizable.
Myt4g on pacquiao type roids.miui.panache.
My old Desire with CM7 on it has never been so fast! It's a really nice modified rom that's fast and doesn't have all the Sense bloatware on it.
That being said, I like Sense. And I'm happy with my Sensation now . But I might give CM7 a try just for kicks.
It's vanilla Android with small tweaks that make it great. You have a small ROM that is fast and made by a team of awesome coders.
CM goes way back with the first google phone. So allot of people know it.

THIS. The stock bluetooth stack in this phone is horrible. I can't get more than 10 feet from my phone without it disconnecting & I can't even turn my head without the audio cutting out.

I had an Eris before my current DInc2 and cm is crap for both. They have little to NO support for my phone and every time I run their ROM it fails as bad if not worse than the half assed alphas put there. Sure it has cool customization choices, but on my DInc2 it is worthless in my opinion until it is fully functional.
I (and you) should never settle for less than fully functional for something so "popular"
Sorry, usually my posts are much nicer than this. I just hate kool-aid.

The one good thing to come from CM7 is MIUI - which I'm quite looking forward to trying (although I probably go back to Sense)
Personally I am more of a fan of the CM7 based ROMs that come after. Each developer gets a chance to put there own unique touch to the cm7 based ROMs. I remember from the nexus one days after cm dropped the ROMS came flying in with everyone's personal touch. The CM7 code provides a rock solid base with all features working.

most stable rom.

hey all, looking to flash the most stable rom for the inspire out there! anyone wanna give me a few good stable roms?
Anything gingerbread is rock solid. ClearDroid and Virtuous Unity are my favorite for Sense and Gingerbeast and Absolution rock if you want to be senseless. The ICS roms are stable enough for daily use but might have small issues that keep them from being the right choice for you. Personally, I love Redemption but there are others that have more active development. I haz not tried jellybean but I would guess that is the same or worse when compared to ICS. You will have to try some out and see what works best for you.

Anything based on stock will be the most stable. 2.47.502.7 and 3.20.502.52. Att just released the last base with sense 3.0. I'm on blackout Ics right now and really am enjoying it. It is sense and Ics. But as always try them out and see what you like. No single rom is for everyone.

Not necessarily, his phone is the same model, but they aren't the same exact device. Also, that isn't necessarily true, at&t's last update was completely broken and unstable. Any rom in the section was made to work with our phone and can run it just as good as an at&t built rom. Most times better.

I agree that 2.47.502.7 was buggy and I did not like it even when devs re cooked it. As for the last update 3.20.502.52 or even the original Rom they ran flawlessly. And to use roms with these bases was really all I was saying to him. Just stick to roms built off of these for the most stable experience. I've spent quite amount of time unrooted and also running every Rom you could possibly flash on this device and when I am on an actual inspire base every part of the phone runs the way it should ( with the exception of 2.47.502.7). I think we agree, I just meant roms based off stock, not necessarily stock itself.
As for what Rom to run that differs all together. I'm on an Ics sense Rom that was never intended for our device but I'm willing to live with a little instability for more options and Ics

Yes I agree. Gingerbread is most stable. Some dhd base though have minor issues like agps not updating accurately, scanner apps not reading barcodes, battery drain, intermittent WiFi/data issues, Sound problems.. etc. Nothing major though. My favorite dhd base was the sense 3.0 update they got. Runs the smoothest imo. Sense 3.5 and up gets a little clunky.

As stated before, Gingerbread ROMs are generally more stable than ICS ROMs. That said, my favorite is Primo-S v3.5. Its ICS + Sense 4.0A. Its not the most stable mod out there, but extremely stable, enough t be used as a daily driver. The most stable I've tried is of course Cyanogenmod 7. Second is Android Revolution HD.

ROM for elders

Im planning to maybe pass on my sensation to my 67-year-old father. It would be his first smartphone as well as first touchscreen one.
The issue is, that my father is not an expert in electronics by far (barely knows how to read and write text messages). His old phones have been plain nokias (yeah the legendary ones) and such. Also his fingers are very thick (about the size of a billiard stick).
Alas what do you think would be the best ROM to suit him?
What im looking for is a simple interface, easy to use, and something that has good batterylife (he often forgets to charge his phone)
Trying out different ROMs isnt that simple to him because if he learns to use one function of a ROM then it will be difficult to adjust to a different ROM that functions differently.
So what do you suggest?
Sent from my HTC Sensation using xda premium
How about virtuous inquisition,? It is senseless, stable, excellent battery life, no frills, Rom. I personally think that would be a excellent choice for seniors. He won't have any problems with it. Hope this helps. I know if I gave my mom a Rom , I likely would choose this for her. This way he won't be burdened with problems or battery drain .I think this is the best choice. Best wishes .
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using xda premium
That might be a good solution
Im currently running Bruces CM10 kang and I think its a little bit too complex
Sent from my HTC Sensation using xda premium
VI is my favorite stable ROM but I'd have to say that MIUI is the best ROM for an elderly person. The large icons, the simplicity, really everything is much easier on it except for the browser (download dolphin instead).
Good luck

I think it is opposite. Gb is easier than Ics..also as CM7...If you install CM7 you can install launcherpro or other launcher, and resize big icons on your preferances. i think that ics has much "rigid" interface than cm7.
ics has incorporated those bloatware "beasts" like tweeter, facebook chat,gtalk...etc. etc...so you should think to remove them from rom before installation.just to avoid sporadic popups and notifications that could confuse him...CM7 does not have it. (and it is noot needed to have).
I recommend Hypersensation CM7 .
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that a stock looking Sense Rom like ARHD would be suitable for elders. Sense widgets are pretty user friendly, setup a coupe of home screens (not the default 7). I think that would work. That's whhat I would do if I had to give an android phone to my parents.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using Tapatalk 2
If you are going the MIUI route, gb/ics/jb are practically all similar. From my experience ICS had over 20hour battery where GB had like 12hour so you might want to look into that as well.
I'd go back to stock or install hypermiui (by far the most battery efficient)

No worries. ICS is no JB that's for sure, and truth be told ALL the awesome options available to the Blaze should be tried out! That's the great thing about having such options - you can start choosing based on preferences as opposed to basic functionality. I'm a smali hack at best - I would consider the other tinkerers for the Blaze to be far more qualified of a "developer" title than I really - so folks should really make sure to test the various waters as you never know what you might be missing!

Well single core to dual core, NFC, slightly larger screen, 4g 42mbps, larger capacity battery, and adreno 220 are things that I would consider better. At my dad's house near Minneapolis I can pull 20+mpbs on 4g...
But at the end of the day, you still are running android and that's not going to change much... and if you liked sense than you will likely not like TW. No guarantee that you also wouldn't like aosp either (my wife doesn't - she prefers sense). My wife has a sensation 4g and I see a major difference between her phone and my blaze. I prefer the blaze, because of those features listed (and access to the sd card without having to dissemble the phone to get to it) and I prefer TW (using TW5 launcher) to any sense rom. Sense just seems bloated to me and the Blaze just seems to be more responsive.
But hey, they're just phones and everyone is entitled to their own opinions and can like whatever they choose to like

I'm actually running CM7 on my Mytouch 4G. I agree with you on sense feeling bloated. As far as the screen size, when I put the phones next to each other you really can't notice an increase in size.

What ROM are you on?
My best experience with it has to be the fact I went from a broken iPhone 3GS to this, then I rooted it and flashed CM10 and I experienced a phone like I wanted too. Not held down by the shackles of Apple anymore.

I have used about every Rom avail on xda and another site. By far for me viperxl 3.2.by turge and kernel elementalx by flar2 is best sense based Rom and I am torn between nonsense roms. Jellybam was cool to play around. Great thing about roms is there is no 1 best Rom for every1, with so many its a personal choice. I know quite a few who think best Rom is a new one so it can be played with . Rom flashing addiction is growing at unstoppable pace....watchout ....

+1 I love the choices in Sense ROMs. Tweaks? Viper. AOSPish? RebelROM. Simple, smooth? CleanRom. Audio? HatkaXL. The list goes on and on. Love this phone's dev community!

I was going to get the sgs3 coming from the original sgs, but the One X was $50 so I took the offer. If I was forced to go back to a S-AMOLED screen, I'll definitely cry. And I'll cry even more if GPS won't lock. This is an excellent phone

I've been really happy with mine as well. To be honest this is the longest I have ever owned a modern smartphone. My previous phones would last 6-8 months before I got bored.
As much as I want the One... I honestly wouldn't mind skipping a generation and hanging onto this until it dies.
With s off and development getting even better the one xl is pretty fun.
With my setup the battery life is very much improved! JB Sense roms rock.
I am thinking of changing the housing to the one x+ housing since mine is getting beat up. It's going to feel like a brand new phone

I've been extremely happy with build quality. My last phone was a Samsung captivate & infuse and it didn't hold up very well at all. I miss the no locked bootloader nonsense that Samsung has.
Build quality has been great, screen and camera are awesome.
I've dropped the phone at least 20-30 times with a tpu case and have had no damage.

Yeah me too. I remember flashing the gingerbread I9000 bootloaders just so I can go to download mode and recovery easier on the captivate lol

Yeah the all mighty Odin. Thanks to that program and kernels with injected cwm, flashing Roms was a blast. I probably will NEVER see an UNBRICKABLE MOD in future Samsung devices. IMO its the best phone in terms of hacking.
GPS was horrible on that phone, though. I couldn't get a lock that would stick for 6 seconds lol, whereas my One X didn't break a sweat. And I'm glad I took a chance with HTC. I was getting tired of the blue-ish white on s-amoled screen

gps was horrid on my captive!!!
lol no matter what i did.
also a huge odin fan!!
tons of one clicks, and non one clicks are fun
Although I wore out more then one back door from battery pulls on my captivate LOL
Lol yeah. My wife gps sucked too...it got so bad i had to use my iPhone 3gs at times lol

For a while I kept coming on to xda and checked out the cm10 thread but was so concerned about bricking and didn't have money to buy an unsubsidized phone, but when I finally decided to root, I got the vanilla-ish experience I really wanted and it has only gotten better with cm10.1 and roms like the one I'm on now, xylon.
