So I performed a Nandroid Backup on my Galaxy S3 today and it took about 45 minutes. I looked at the file size and it was 2.5 GB. Is this normal? Should it take this long?
I am using CWM Recovery 6.01.0.

Sounds about right to me, if I'm not mistaken the /system partition on a stock install is something like 1.2GB, and then you have all of your data and apps and such.
Do you have a lot of apps, or maybe a game with a lot of data? That could explain the huge dump
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
I use the touch recovery and mines at 1.84 GB from yesterday. The 45 minutes is too long though, mine takes roughly 5 - 15 minutes. It will take more space if your coming from a smaller storage capable phone like I did. Droid X2 was roughly 1.20 GBs and thats with a ton of stuff installed.

bloatware.
you just backed up EVERYTHING. remember that.
My backups for my Incredible 2 were 1.5 gigs. That was CM7. Cannot imagine what a stock firmware would have been.
Storage sounds like it could be right but 45 minutes is way too long. The again I haven't gotten that far with my sgs3 lol Just in my past, backups take 15 minutes or less.
Whoa, 45 mimutes? That seems like a very long time to make a nandroid. Have you tried changing recoveries? Or even reflashing the one you have already?
As for the size, it's about right. Unless you want to not backup something, the size is what it is.
Alright guys thanks a lot for all the help.Flashed CWM Recovery touch and the backup ran in around 10 minutes at 2.6 GB. All is well can't wait for the official CM10 to come out!!!

I agree, 45 minutes seems too long. My backup was pretty big at 2.1gb but only took about 20 minutes.

I have gotten similar results with virus and lean kernel on mine with the stock battery. I even get those results while flashing different things and making backups. I use my phone for web surfing emails texts phone calls and music.

If that's real you've got one hell of a setup. I use the same ROM with the 4.3 kernel and get a little more than half of that. Although I'm a little skeptical that is a stock battery.
I wish I had taken a shot of my record, but I wasn't thinking before I put it on the charger. I also made it to a little over 8 hours of use on Perfect Storm with the 4.1b kernel, up-time was around 20 hours. made at least 50 texts, an hour of phone calls, about 30 minutes of angry birds, a bit of web browsing and a lot of youtube, along with other various here-and-there tasks. I'm going to try to make it again on my next cycle and post results then. BTW I keep the kernel clocked at the full 1.4 ghz and brightness on auto.
Question Can I install roms like all the ones I used to on my droid 2?
Just go in clockwork, mount, install zip and reboot?
Or is it somehow more complicated than that?

Not sure why you're asking this in this thread, but no you cannot. you can only install the roms that are made for each phone. Someone can PORT a rom from another phone to work with ours, but someone has to port it first before it will work.

Mine takes about 15-20 seconds. I have about 5 or 6 apps installed.
I've never counted and have maybe 80-130 apps installed by now. Best guess is around 1 minute.

Mine takes a bit of time also. With over a 100 apps, regardless of Prime or Revolver it takes a good amount until I see the lockscreen, but its because I have zipaligned on boot enabled.
4 minutes, zip aligned

oh god, I have over 100 apps installed and my boot time is 3:04, and some of you are getting 15 SECONDS??? welp, time to make my backup, wipe the divice clean, and see how much faster i can get my boot time. I don't usually restart my transformer, so this extremely long boot time was a real surprise to me. Thanks for reminding me to reboot more often!
Mine takes about three millennia, give or take a century or two. That's with the latest Prime ROM. How the crap do you guys get such short boot times?
well, after a wipe of all of my data and then restore of about 30 apps from titanium backup (I'm using good 'ol revolver 1.9.5 and prime OC at default voltage) i got a cool 43 seconds from asus screen to lockscreen.
OK, I just rebooted my device for the first time in weeks with logcat running. Aside from all the retarded "adb server is out of date" errors I got, I also noticed that PackageManager is unpacking native libraries all the time. Something I've not seen in ages, and the only results I get for its output lead me to the CM bugtracker and forum.
It looks like it's something common to all Android devices (I think my Sensation does it if 'quick boot' isn't enabled), but it seems to have been solved on the CM end of things.
I guess we have to either wait for CM or ICS to see faster boot times from our tabs
Mine probably takes 45 seconds to a minute.
Question though... Why does it matter? You guys rebooting your tfs multiple times a day? I reboot mine about once a week or so, honestly could care less about whether it takes 30 second or 5 minutes to boot.
No offense
Carry on

Yes and also some of us get random reboots.. and if u were doing something or show off your tablet.. No one wants to wait for it to reboot back up in 1+ minutes..
I thin the reason for longed boot time might be attributed to the number of apps installed along side having zipaligned enabled.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
5 or 6 Minutes... If installing an update from the recovery It takes 10 to 13 Minutes !!!
I have over 200+ apps !!
Using the Latest Revolver ROM...
Also there are some features in the Revolver parts app... If I enabled them the booting time doubles !! (Battery Calibration - Defragmentation - Zipalign)
So Insane !!!
Mine takes about 50 seconds. with about 90 apps installed.
I'm using Android Revolution HD 2.2.1, clocked op 1514 Mhz.
I'm on stock, using ADW EX with about 70 apps. Takes about 4 and a half minutes to boot up.
let me also add that I have 153 apps installed according to TiBackup.
Take note also that if you are basing your boot time on a freshly installed ROM, it could be considerably longer. On average for me its been as long as 10 minutes, but for the most part its been taking about 7 minutes total on updates/installs.
If you change something that requires reboot, like the bootanimation.zip, it can also take longer due to the OS needing to read the changed file. I am running the PRIME ROM, but I swapped out the bootanimation for the one in revolver. I really dig it better than the whole "PC boot up" thing.
Thinning out your system apps will also decrease boot time (I have found). For some reason, if I had alot of /system/app apk's it seemed to lag on startup. Most of the files I have are in the /data/app directory. Also, certain apps are programmed to run on startup, which can dramatically affect your boot time.

There is a rogue app in your drawer. download watchlist app, it will keep track on other apps which are hogging your system.
Battery calibration won't and doesn't do anything useful... its more then likely an app or something running constantly. What's your screen on times? Post a screenshot of your battery usage.

i can confirm this helped battery life, thanks! also if any of you still have telenav on the 2.3.4 update, getting rid of that helped me out too
I'm sure this has been asked, but since the search function is down right now, I'll just ask in a new thread. How long should a NAND backup take? I am using CWM 6.0.1.0, and it's been churning for about an hour now. It's not stuck, and it's making progress, it's just really slow. I am backing up a ROM based on stock.
Admittedly, I am not using an ultra-fast SD card, but this still seems long to me. For those of you that flash a lot, do you typically backup to the internal or external storage? Is the internal storage perhaps faster than an SD card that is a few years old?
Thanks!
How many apps do you have on there? I know that that can make a difference. An hour seems long to me. It takes my DX about 8 or so minutes
