I've searched for a couple days.
I love cm9 and aokp for skyrocket.
Both will fail to send (and sometimes notify) an SMS or text message if the count is over 160 chars.
This leaves you with two options:
1. Split messages
2. Convert to mms if over 1
The latter works best but means no gosms or hand cent as stock is the only one that allows you to auto convert to moms after just 160 chars.
Ideally there is a solution, anyone have one yet, or can recommend a similar mod that functions like these.
Edit:
Is this happening on every skyrocket instance of CM9 or AOKP??
I'm using CM9 stable and even since the nightlies and RC2, my texts would automatically split. I have the setting to send mms when over 3.

So you split till you are over 3.
Cause otherwise, in my experience its not going out if it's anything over 1, so you have to split or send as mms.
Is the cause of the problem known.

Anyone have trouble sending mms? Mine just stalls and eventually gives me a notice that it can't be sent...had the trouble for a while now....

Are you having this problem on both 3G and Edge or just when you are on Edge?
your not trying to send it through google voice are you?
I had trouble with mine on EDGE. The solution was to get Handcent SMS and set the size of the MMS.
Settings->Send message settings->Maximum MMS size and I set it to 100k
No problems since.

I am also having this problem. I found that it was only an issue on Edge.... which is all that is available here. Pretty much rendering my MMS messages useless. Along with GPS. So im quite displeased at this moment.
As for the Settings = send message settings above thing .... I do not see the "Send MEssage Settings" option anywhere. Not in Message Settings or in regular Settings. Any particular place for it? Hope it works if i find it. Frustrated.
Correction - I see you mean to get the program Handcent SMS. Though that actually pisses me off more that I have to get a program to send on Edge, I will give it a shot.
Works
I can confirm that the Handcent SMS app on the Marketplace works for MMS on Edge network. Thanks for the tip off good sir.
If you're running Stock JF6 ROM and only has EDGE signal, you have two choices:
1. Some how shrink the picture down to 100k or so. Anything bigger won't send over EDGE. It is one of the known bugs in stock ROM.
2. You can flash to the newer leaked beta ROM. This bug has been addressed in newer ROMs.
Or you can wait for the official ROM update that fixes GPS among other things. No one know when that will happen yet.
Question for mmm_tacos
mmm_tacos -
Did you find a way to disable the regular Messaging system so you dont get two notifications for every text/MMS message received?

You should be able to open the stock Messaging application and hit your menu button and go to settings and go to Notifications and uncheck it.

much appreciated
I can send a MMS, but cant receive one.
Those I send it to do receive it.
When I receive a MMS I get a Txt which has a 'Download' button in it. I try to download but it doesnt work, even if the photo is tiny.
Im on JH7
I'm using the latest Cognition ROM, v2.3b6 and I've noticed since v2.3b2 that every SMS sent or received is now in the call log. I never saw this in the stock ROM or Cog v2.2b7.
It's really annoying when I want to scroll down to a recent number only to find that I've got to scroll through dozens of SMS messages depending on how many I've sent/received after a call to/from the number I am trying to locate.
Anyway to turn this off?
I've seen it in every 2.2 version I have tried. Unfortunately I know of no way to turn this off.
Can only hope when the source code drops it:
A) Will have an option to turn off
B) That Developers find a way to add that functionality
There is a way to customize the call log:
Phone->Logs->Menu->View by
Only problem is you cant have it show all calls (has to be either missed, dialed or received).
You can also stop that from happening by using Titanium Backup and "freezing" the stock messaging app. Doing so will stop all the logs from coming in and going out, but you also have to use a third-party messaging app. The only downside I've found to this so far, is the loss of MMS capability, but that could be an issue only with how Handcent is set up on my phone. Has anyone else tried this and still been able to use MMS (receive and send)?
i did a search and didn't see anyone with the same problem. i was able to receive pics from other people, but i when i try to send it to them, they don't receive it. my phone shown sent but they don't even get a text at all. i can however send pic text to myself and receive it. this was from using the stock app.
i then switched to handcent sms and uninstalled the regular text app. i can't receive pic or send pic to them. i can't even receive the pic text i sent to myself. is there some kind of setting i'm suppose to set it to?
Under settings->send->maximum size, make sure it's set to default 1M. My was set to 5M for some reason and mms never worked right (oversized).
tried that, still doesn't work with sending pic text or receiving.

Hmm.. I can't seem to find this setting..?
I just realized I can receive mms but not send.
I currently use Handsent SMS and prefer it over the stock texting app. However I did not remove that. You SHOULD keep it, then set Handcent as your default and get rid of all notifications on the settings of your default text program.
I have a similar issue with you only i removed the stock calander and now my 3rd party calander app wont work
sending video to iPhone problem
I searched, but didn't come upon a thread about MMS video problems, but this was the closest thread in nature...
anyone having problems sending video MMS to specifically iPhones? I am able to send to MMS vids to other phones (other Android phones), but when I send a video to an iPhone, they receive it but the sound is garbled when played. Same results happen with both the stock messaging app and Handcent.
(MMS pictures work fine though)
In the video settings of the camera, I have the "Duration" set to 'MMS' and then I've even tried both "Video Sizes"...QVGA and QCIF. All the test video messages I sent to my wife's iPhone have been about 100-150Kb in size. When she receives the video, it plays but the sound is garbled and can't distinguish anything being said.
Any help would be appreciated since my wife likes to receive clips of our baby son while she's at work etc.
using stock non-rooted G2x.
random, but know a guy that works for LG in the mobile department. I asked him about a software update and he replied with the following:
"Yes, there is a software update coming. It should have been out 2 weeks ago, but at the time T-Mobile was thinking of just lumping it in with the Gingerbread update. Now that the Gingerbread update is being moved back to early June (last minute bugs need worked out), we convinced them to let us push the update so at least the users who are experiencing powercycling, freezing, and wifi sleeping will be taken care of."
Compress the pics to 100kb or less and they should go through! Use handcent mms and it compresses them for you.

I hope that is true, that update being held is doing nothing except making G2x owners look for other smartphones, not to mention potential G2x owners reading all these bad reviews around the forums won't even consider buying a G2x.
So I really don't understand why they would delay the patch when they know it's more than likely going to hurt the sales of the phone.
These companies seem to always make really dumb choices.
Happy customers equal BIGGER profits in the long run, that should be the main goal IMHO.

u said u deleted reg message app? that mite be y u cant recieve anything now
has the phone been flashed a custom rom?
if so go into messages > settings> and switch the mms client
so nobody else has any problems sending videos to iPhones? pictures and regular texts go through fine, it's only the audio of the video part that is all garbled and messed up. my G2x is a stock non-rooted phone with the stock messaging app. (i've tried handcent and Go SMS and the vids still don't go through correctly to iPhones).
as for the patch, i asked him when LG is planning to release it...he made it seem like it should be soon.
I had this problem until I downloaded Go sms and changed my mms size to 5M and then set my user agent to Default Android.
I'm really tired of long incoming and outgoing messages being split up into multiple messages. The only way for me to prevent this is to "attach" a photo or blank subject line to each outgoing message. This unlocks the character limit, turns the message into MMS and allows it to be sent unbroken.
Some phones do this by default, others do not. I've heard its a combination of the way your carrier handles the data and the way your phone handles messages. Of course your carrier will never admit that its a handy 'tweak' that allows them to charge you for each broken up message rather than one long one.
I'm running a old gb version of MIUI but recently switched to JBMIUI (switched back because I love the stability of the gb version)
To be more specific.
There appears to be a hard limit of 160 characters. Is there a way to everride this somehow? Software mod or app tweak? Go SMS pro still breaks up the messages.
There is noway.

Are you on 2G or 3G? Back in my Desire says on 2G it used to split my texts up.

Hi
Greeting,
According to my knowledge as we go typing the character limit increases from 160 to next(whatever it might be) and the single message gets converted into 2 message n so on but when you send those message they go packed together and the receiver get all the messages packed in one message(you will be charged for every message) . As the text increases the phone converts it into mms if your message size is about 1 kb ( I might b wrong about mms size never used it) ,
So basically you keep typing and the msg will get converted into mms. No need of subject (look my Attachment their is no subject but still its a.mms)
2. Even if you send multiple message packed in one msg it also depends on the receivers phone how to accept it if his multiple msg text limit is for eg. 1000 characters it will convert the renaming message into message no.2.
Its confusing if you havent understood I can make it simple

On CM 9+ there is no issue with long SMS. They appear as one long text. Converting them to mms in NZ would cost a fortune as SMS are essentially free but MMS cost.
Wondering if anybody else is having any problems sending SMS. Sometimes they send perfect and other times they take a minute then they say message not sent. Usually they resend perfectly fine. I have tried different ROMs and I have the same results. I have tried to use the stock messaging app as well as Hangouts and they both give me the same result. Have also tried removing the SIM card and they worked fine for about a week then they started to randomly not send. Not sure what the issue is and would love others feedback for a solution. Thanks
I have the same issue. I've had it across multiple roms. Good to know I'm not the only one.

I got the same problem to, I figured it's because I live in a area with bad signal but I usually have at least one bar which should be enough to send a text, I guess it's not only a problem with my phone then. I've been using a new messaging app that seems to help a lot here's a link if either of you want to try out http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-stock-messaging-sliding-ui-extra-t2825144
Its been plaguing me too, with hangouts. Driving me crazy
You r saying regular text don't send or mms? I know if your MMS limit is set higher then 1200 it will not sent. SMS I'm clueless tho 1st I have heard of this
I too am having the same issues, stock, un-rooted and using message+, stock app and hangouts.
Also, I have been sending and receiving the same message multiple times. My message wont send, then i'll delete it, resend it, and the recipient gets it 2-3 times. Or out of no where I'll receive the same massage 3-5 times...
I had hoped rooting and a custom rom would be the answer but I guess not :crying:

I have never had this issue never. Maybe phone issue.
I have this issue with sending pics (MMS). Text works fine but the MMS is not as smooth as the old iphone. Got to admit iphone ranks supreme when it comes to messaging. Wish there was a way is flash imessage onto our M8s.

Try Disabling Google Voice+
What finally fixed it for me was disabling Voice+ (Which allows apps to send SMS through Google Voice).
Messages were automatically switching to my GV number. When I disconnected the GV account, I couldn't send any SMS at all. I could still receive, though, which led me to GV+.
It was driving me absolutely insane.
