mms problem - T-Mobile LG G2x

i did a search and didn't see anyone with the same problem. i was able to receive pics from other people, but i when i try to send it to them, they don't receive it. my phone shown sent but they don't even get a text at all. i can however send pic text to myself and receive it. this was from using the stock app.
i then switched to handcent sms and uninstalled the regular text app. i can't receive pic or send pic to them. i can't even receive the pic text i sent to myself. is there some kind of setting i'm suppose to set it to?

Under settings->send->maximum size, make sure it's set to default 1M. My was set to 5M for some reason and mms never worked right (oversized).

tried that, still doesn't work with sending pic text or receiving.

Hmm.. I can't seem to find this setting..?

I just realized I can receive mms but not send.

I currently use Handsent SMS and prefer it over the stock texting app. However I did not remove that. You SHOULD keep it, then set Handcent as your default and get rid of all notifications on the settings of your default text program.
I have a similar issue with you only i removed the stock calander and now my 3rd party calander app wont work

sending video to iPhone problem
I searched, but didn't come upon a thread about MMS video problems, but this was the closest thread in nature...
anyone having problems sending video MMS to specifically iPhones? I am able to send to MMS vids to other phones (other Android phones), but when I send a video to an iPhone, they receive it but the sound is garbled when played. Same results happen with both the stock messaging app and Handcent.
(MMS pictures work fine though)
In the video settings of the camera, I have the "Duration" set to 'MMS' and then I've even tried both "Video Sizes"...QVGA and QCIF. All the test video messages I sent to my wife's iPhone have been about 100-150Kb in size. When she receives the video, it plays but the sound is garbled and can't distinguish anything being said.
Any help would be appreciated since my wife likes to receive clips of our baby son while she's at work etc.
using stock non-rooted G2x.
random, but know a guy that works for LG in the mobile department. I asked him about a software update and he replied with the following:
"Yes, there is a software update coming. It should have been out 2 weeks ago, but at the time T-Mobile was thinking of just lumping it in with the Gingerbread update. Now that the Gingerbread update is being moved back to early June (last minute bugs need worked out), we convinced them to let us push the update so at least the users who are experiencing powercycling, freezing, and wifi sleeping will be taken care of."

Compress the pics to 100kb or less and they should go through! Use handcent mms and it compresses them for you.

I hope that is true, that update being held is doing nothing except making G2x owners look for other smartphones, not to mention potential G2x owners reading all these bad reviews around the forums won't even consider buying a G2x.
So I really don't understand why they would delay the patch when they know it's more than likely going to hurt the sales of the phone.
These companies seem to always make really dumb choices.
Happy customers equal BIGGER profits in the long run, that should be the main goal IMHO.

u said u deleted reg message app? that mite be y u cant recieve anything now

has the phone been flashed a custom rom?
if so go into messages > settings> and switch the mms client

so nobody else has any problems sending videos to iPhones? pictures and regular texts go through fine, it's only the audio of the video part that is all garbled and messed up. my G2x is a stock non-rooted phone with the stock messaging app. (i've tried handcent and Go SMS and the vids still don't go through correctly to iPhones).
as for the patch, i asked him when LG is planning to release it...he made it seem like it should be soon.

I had this problem until I downloaded Go sms and changed my mms size to 5M and then set my user agent to Default Android.

[Q] NS4G not sending SMS?

Have any of you heard of this?
Yesterday my phone decides it's NOT going to send SMS through the stock messaging app. I don't get an error, it appears as though it sends, but my recipient never receives it.....most of the time. Sometimes they go thru, sometimes they don't. It seems to mostly NOT go thru.
If the SMS does NOT go through, I can never see it in Google Voice.
If I use the Google Voice SMS app on my phone, recipient receives 100% of their SMS, same with Web interface.
If I disable my Google Voice account via the web and sign out via my phone, my recipient receives 100% of their SMS using the stock app.
I have all the settings nailed. Google Voice is set to sync, background data enabled, etc.... It was, has been working flawlessly up until yesterday with nothing on the phone changing.
I have wiped, reflashed, tried different ROMs, etc....
Today I called Sprint, they re-provisioned things, then basically said since it's a third party app they can't help. I want to beat my head against a wall here.
Anyone have any idea of what the problem could be?
I can't offer any help but I can tell you I saw the exact same problem all day on the 16th and 17th. I've since switched the Google Voice app to use it's own notifications and turned off the text notifications. For the time being, I'm not even using the stock messaging app.
I remember Sprint having an SMS problem a few months ago one afternoon, but it wasn't specific to GV. Maybe something in their GV integration system is a little wacky right now. People said they got about half of the messages I was sending before I switched to the GV app full time.
Good to know I'm not the only one. Looks like a couple of other people have the same problem over in the Google help forums. I de-integrated my account for almost two days, I'm getting ready to re-integrate it now, we shall see what happens. The support for these phones is god awful. If this doesn't resolve it I'm driving to the nearest corporate store and returning it through their window.
LOL! I'm hoping it doesn't come to that, but if you do decide to "return" it, you may want to attach a brick or something. This phone feels way to light to do any damage without a little extra help.

Here's a little update. Not really a good one, but whatever...
All of the text messages I had tried to send though the stock messaging app must have made it to Sprint at least because they all just dumped en mass upon their intended recipients. I got a pile of very confused responses.
Maybe the issue has been resolved. I'll switch my settings back and experiment a little.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
That didn't happen to me, but it does appear that my texts are going through. There's one person who says she never gets some, but I can see they're sycning to GV now, where they weren't before. Everyone else is getting my texts too. I have no idea what happened but I'm a little at ease knowing someone else had the problem. I hope it never happens again, I rely on SMS for my business.

[Q] "MMS Adaptation" blocking MMS.

So I wasn't going to post here, but I already visited an ATT store and had a sim card swapped out and they still weren't of any help even after replicating it in front of them. I never had this issue with my GS2, but since upgrading to my HOX some images sent to me won't show and the message I'll get instead is:
"One or more of the message components have been deleted by MMS Adaptation. Either the message was too large or the components were unsuitable for your terminal."
I think its screen captures from my girlfriends iPhone as front and back camera pictures she takes sends just fine. Does anyone know how to fix this? I have checked my APN settings against others in the forum I have found, but its always possible I missed something.
Same problem here on my Skyrocket. Googled like crazy and found other reports but no solution. I know the image isn't to large because even small rage comics that my gf sends me give that message. Pics she takes with her phone come through fine. Hard to believe that I could receive just about anything on my Iphone 4 with its tiny screen but now that I've switched to android, suddenly everythings to large for my phone to receive it
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
I just got this today. Any idea what caused this on the hox. It came from an iPhone 4s...
If it helps after playing with my girlfriends phone its screen caps that cause a problem and can sometimes be fixed if they include text in the message with an image. Honestly never had a problem until this phone from my gs2 but if you're getting it on a skyrocket maybe att borked their network.

This is annoying the hell out of me.
I haven't had this problem yet. I wonder if that's because I'm on Rogers.
Have you folks actually checked the file size of both the accepted and rejected attachments? And maybe check the maximum attachment size inside the Messaging app. Mine's set to 1MB on Rogers, so I'm guessing anything bigger than 1MB wouldn't come through. Maybe the AT&T HOX is misconfigured to a file size smaller than what AT&T actually allows.
I had this problem when I first swapped to my GS2 from an iPhone. My wife and roommate were still on their iPhones, and they would send me pictures without problems. We found out the issue was with iPhone screenshots, not the pictures. Since the camera photos are .jpg files, they're actually quite small and don't really need to be compressed to send via MMS. The screen caps, however, are .png files, which are uncompressed on the iPhone. Since the iPhone can send and receive png files via MMS, there isn't a limit to what they can send and receive. I've noticed that any time I send a picture via my Android phones, they send a compressed copy that is reduced in size compared to what an iPhone sends.
I've never really found a fix, but after I started using alternate messaging apps (Handcent) I haven't received the error message. I think it may have something to do with a set limit size somewhere, but I don't know exactly what is causing it. My theory on the whole situation is that AT&T determines what phone you have based on your IMEI, and if it's not registered in their system as being able to handle excessive MMS sizes, it blacklists your phone from being able to receive messages over a certain size. Back in the pre-smartphone days, if an MMS was too big you got a text message from Cingular/ATT that prompted you to enter a code on a website to retrieve the picture, but I haven't gotten one of those since my old Motorola SLVR.
I tried GO Sms Pro which I used on my GS2 without fail and I still got it - haven't tried handcent though.

The bolded part makes since. AT&T has lowered out limit to 600K where as everyone else has up to 1MB that they can send/receive. I think this is where the problem lays.
This showed on my boyfriend phone, not sure what it's all about. Can someone explain??

A big problem - Xperia Z3 Stock Messaging App (really any stock Xperia Messaging App)

You can read all the long drawn out situation, or scroll to the Abridged version down below.
So I've heard of people and developers modding apps, giving the modded versions added features. In fact I have the modded Spotify Apk that allows me to skip any song in my playlist, but moreover from that, there is a serious issue. I don't know if anyone but Xperia Z3 owners on T-Mobile are affected from this, but the stock Sony messaging app on the Xperia Z3 has no MMS/Group Messaging feature. So even if I make a new messaging thread with more than one recipient, after I send the message, the replies come back as if the person sending it, only sent it to me, not the "group thread." So, what? You might be thinking to tell me to "just download a new app that supports MMS and Group Messaging like Textra," but the answer is not as simple as that.
So why is this so important that I'm asking the best developers around the world to help me? Well, T-Mobile is not known for its best signal that covers the entire continent. If fact they're kind of known for the opposite, so much so, that they've implemented "T-Mobile Wi-Fi Calling," to help burden the pain of spotty coverage. So practically all "T-Mobile Wi-Fi Calling" does is it allows one to send SMS/MMS(group messaging and picture)/calls over Wi-Fi. Pretty nifty, right? Well, yeah, if only it allowed third party apps like Hangouts, Textra, chompSMS, etc. to tap into it, but unfortunately, T-Mobile locked the use of "T-Mobile Wi-Fi Calling" only to the stock Sony pre-installed messaging app: Messaging, the app that can't handle a Multi-Recipient MMS group conversation. ("T-Mobile Wi-Fi Calling" is locked to all stock messaging apps, on any T-mobile phone) This problem doesn't just affect the Xperia Z3, it predates all the way back to the original Sony Xperia Z, meaning that all current Sony phone holders are affected by this: Z, ZR, Z1, Z1s, Z1c, Z2, Z3c, and Z3. That is why I'm asking you, the best developers to try and mod the stock Sony Xperia Messaging App, not just to help me, but help a lot of disgruntled Sony phone owners. If the problem has persisted for 8 different phones, I am hardly confident that Sony will fix this in their Lollipop update with the T-Mobile tweaks. All you (the developers/modders) would have to do is mod the stock Sony Xperia Z3 messaging app to have MMS/group messaging handing, rendering it actually usable and usefull. The only other way to resolve this issue is through legalities and laws of app developers getting permission to use and tap into the T-Mobile Wi-Fi Calling, which in all honesty doesn't seem very secure for T-Mobile's data security.
The Sony Xperia Z3 is a great phone, top tier, just with this one annoying quirk. So much so. that people are returning their brand new, perfectly good phones (google "xperia z3 wifi calling mms"). I could just hope that Sony and T-Mobile would finally listen to the thousands complaining, but the chance of that happening is close to zero. In fact the stock Sony Messaging App is actually pretty great and I wish other apps like Textra would implement some of its features (like the ability to set your own custom background on the individual conversation thread), but the likewise could be said in vice versa.
My personal situation (irrelevant to the problem): I don't know if what I typed makes sense (there's a lot of different things to process, and I might of left some details out). I'm just a frustrated Xperia Z3 owner, with the programming experience of copying code from the internet and putting it in the arduino compiler, so I'm way over my head with trying to reprogram/modifying an app. I've searched for months trying to find and decent alternative, but without T-Mobile Wi-Fi Calling I get all my messages an hour to a day late, because of the spotty coverage of the area I live in. I mean, I have 2 bars of 2G all the time, it's just I get 10 seconds of 4G every 15 min, contributing to the delay of messages. The delay (if I even get the message entirely) has messed up some of my friendships, because they think I'm ignoring them. I brag about my phone being so superior to iPhones, and it's always a little embarrassing and humiliating that a phone as good as the Z3 has this one crippling flaw. It's starting to get annoying and I might honestly just switch to an iPhone next because of how well iMessaging works, buts that only if the top of the top developers fail this desperate attempt.
ABRIDGED VERSION: Either I use the stock Sony messaging app that allows MMS over Wi-Fi but no group messaging, or a third party app that allows MMS group messaging but test chance to whether or not I get the message on time, delayed an hour, or not at all. Also the third party app could not utilize T-Mobile Wi-Fi Calling, something many T-Mobile users rely on.
PLAN OF ACTION (for people with the knowhow to fix it [so not me]): Fix the stock Sony Xperia Z3 messaging app by modding it to be able to handle MMS/group messaging. I don't know how, but hopefully some developer/wizard could do some magic that Sony Developers couldn't do with their coconuts they call computers. So all in all is this even possible?
So does anyone know of anyone with the knowledge and power to accomplish and put an end to this MAJOR problem? At least some acknowledgement that other people are facing this problem would be nice. (Am I in the right/appropriate sub forum?)

found this on reddit
From post
"I must have tried 10 sms/mms apps. Hangouts wasn't working out how I wanted to either, it would often default back to hangout chats instead of SMS, and group text replies would often come in as individual sms from iPhone users.
Finally used Textra, there's an option in there for MMS and T-mobile which was causing problems when wifi calling was enabled. After turning that on, my text messaging woes are finally over."
Thx for the reply, but I'm currently using Textra and I either get texts an hour late, or not at all, so fixing the stock Sony Messaging App is the best option, all it needs is the ability to handle MMS/group messaging, because the stock Sony messaging app is the only app that can use T-Mobile's Wi-Fi Calling, which can also send/receive MMS.

Don't have a z3 just yet but try 8sms, mms-->mms setting-->mms over wifi. Weirdly it doesn't work on my s3 if i install it from the playstore but if you go to his website and 8sms ddownload directory and download there the mms over wifi works better than textra
Need a solution for this!
I also would love a solution for this. I hate that about this phone! I use the Google Messenger currently but that one sucks. I only get half of the group messages on that. And if a message is too long that it breaks up into 2 messages, the 2nd part never comes through. Why can't Sony just update their stock messaging app and fix the problem?!!?!
Use Textra?
I already use textra, and it is very wishy-washy even about me receiving ordinary SMS text, let alone MMS .

This is supposedly fixed in the Lollipop update according to a post on the T-Mobile support forum. Google "Lollipop gave my Xperia Z3 Group MMS".

MMS and group texting works 100% now for me. How have you not received the update yet? I was under the impression T-Mobile was not doing a Soak rollout and anyone whose phone queries the server should have access to it?

My phone started having problems with wifi, so I sent it in and they Sony fixed it for free, and right now it's in shipping
I have lollipop on a Non T-Mobile Z3 and this issue is NOT fixed. The stock messaging app still doesn't work with group messages right. I use google messenger, and it works but its slow and sometimes misses some group messages.
I don't understand how this phone has this issue in 2015....
I would try Textra Rogue, and never look back. lol (Optional: I don't care much for the Android emojis, so install this Textra add-on afterwards to get the cooler looking iOS emojis.)
I have a suspicion that the issue is more T-Mobile's fault than Sony's. Yes, the stock messenger on the Z3 (and on the HTC One phones, and on the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge phones etc. lol) sucks and can't properly handle/display MMS messages. But once Textra replaces stock messenger (you should disable stock after installing Textra), that issue goes away. But the issue with NOT GETTING some or all MMS messages is something that T-Mobile seems to be having mostly with the Z phones.
So you aren't having ANY issues receiving MMS or even SMS messages then post-Lollipop? I had issues before but fixed them, and after getting Lollipop, everything seemed fine at first, but then the issues kinda came back and also some MMS texts would only show up after I reset my phone. So my old fixes from pre-Lollipop have been put back into play, and so far everything seems fine. But those fixes include using an alternate APN and turning off VoLTE, which I now get in my area but didn't pre-Lollipop. It annoys me that I have to turn VoLTE off to get my MMS messages though. And I still need a couple weeks to know for sure that it worked. I was getting the MAJORITY of my MMS messages before turning off VoLTE post-Lollipop, just not all of them. So far at least one photo/group MMS came in so I think it's working, but we'll see.
Do you know any other people who bought a Z3 but not through T-Mobile? If so, are they having any issues like mine??

Scoder,
Answer me one question please........ do you have VoLTE enabled on your Z3? I disabled mine (again) b/c it appeared to be the reason why I was missing some random MMS messages here & there (before AND after Lollipop). I'm waiting for someone to tell me that they're not missing ANY MMS messages and have VoLTE enabled. Until then, I'll keep using Textra. It seems to work (and looks cooler), but only if VoLTE is off. I'm also using an alternate APN, but I think it's really more about whether VoLTE is on or not.

Black Plague,
I am curious about Google Messenger. The stock one works just fine now, but I'd prefer more options. Also, when Wi-Fi is on, it doesn't always automatically download MMS messages, even though I have that enabled in Settings. This is b/c Stamina Mode is on, and since I can't whitelist the stock app b/c it doesn't show up on the whitelist app list, I can't do anything about it. But GM would show up.
Let me ask you............. 1) Do you have T-Mobile? 2) Do you have VoLTE enabled or disabled? 3) Do you use the default APN or an alternate? 4) Do you have Stamina Mode on? And if so, did you whitelist GM?
Thanks,

---------- Post added at 04:01 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:55 PM ----------
Since my 7/8 post Rogue, I've gone back to Stock, for now. I've been told by ppl who have the same phone and carrier as me (T-Mobile) that since Lollipop it can actually handle MMS properly finally. For last 2 days I've had it and uninstalled Textra............ and it seems to work just fine for the most part. Though Textra was cooler, it didn't seem to work all the time with MMS messages (sometimes they wouldn't come in) when I had VoLTE enabled, so had to turn it off. But with Stock I can keep it on it seems, which I prefer. Makes connecting to calls quicker and they say it upgrades the call sound quality too, though not sure if I notice a difference?
Only small thing is it doesn't automatically download MMS messages even though I set that up. I believe Stamina Mode is the reason. Can't whitelist stock b/c it doesn't show up on the whitelist app list, but maybe Google Messenger might? We'll see. It's a minor thing though b/c it still notifies me when an MMS message comes in, so I can download it automatically if it doesn't (sometimes it does). It seems to only really be an issue when I have Wi-Fi on, b/c when it's off it seems to download the MMS msg automatically.

bro I m from India I dont have chance to use Tmobile or Volte either I used Textra its nice app but I dont need that much setting though so i switch to GM coz I get a nice widget and about stamina mode I keep its settings to default but I use Greenify and keep all apps to sleep,
If u still want to try more apps please leme for ya
If u need the most settings in an sms app go for GO SMS pro, the first sms app I used it got a private box and cool themes to its awesome

and a few alternatives to Textra if u wish, its almost similar I think to textra

Plague,
India? Oh ok.
I see. I'm wary about going back to third party apps, but since this one is MADE by Google, I'm more open to it. Textra was fantastic, but where before it was superior to Stock (since I didn't get VoLTE in my area but now I do since around the time Lollipop came out), now it seems Stock actually works better as it lets ALL MMS messages come in even with VoLTE on. Textra wasn't if VoLTE was on. I may have to ask around more.
Yeah Chomp SMS is made by the same company (Delicious, Inc.) that later made Textra. Both are great. For me though I prob won't use them anymore. They need to be made better to handle VoLTE being in the mix.
Thanks.

T-Mobile Z3, Textra, MMS, and VoLTE

Hello everyone,
I have the T-Mobile Z3 and absolutely LOVE my phone. The ONLY real issue I have is regarding MMS.
When I leave VoLTE enabled, it seems to interfere with me getting all my MMS messages. I get most, but not all. So after disabling it, and I've been using Textra too........ everything seems to be fine. But I am not happy that I have to disable VoLTE in order for me to get all my MMS messages. I disabled stock messenger b/c it had issues before with properly handling MMS messages (and Textra is prettier lol).
So now I'm hearing that since Lollipop, the MMS issues the stock app had are gone, and it works 100% of the time. Great! But I wonder........ does anyone reading this who uses stock notice the same thing with VoLTE ENABLED??! As much as I love Textra, I might go back to stock if someone can confirm VoLTE is enabled when they use stock messenger and they have gone WEEKS (or months) w/o missing any MMS or even SMS messages. Please let me know and feel free to elaborate as much as possible.
Thank You,
RockStar2005
I have VoLTE enabled and stock messenger works fine for MMS so far.
Hey abhinav,
How many weeks have you had VoLTE enabled since getting Lollipop? Also, you have T-Mobile for your Z3 right??
One more thing..............do you use an alternate APN or just the regular default one??
Thanks!
I have T-Mobile indeed and have never turned off VoLTE. However do note I sent and recieved only a few MMS (20-30) so take that into consideration as well.
Well 20-30 is still considerable.
Do you use an alternate APN or just the regular default one? I'm guessing default, but let me know either way.
I'm thinking I may just go ahead and give and stock a shot. The only thing I really dislike with stock is that you're forced to use the white background theme, which I don't like as much on my eyes as the dark background themes. Oh well. That should be a standard option to choose between white and black backgrounds.
Thanks Abhinav....... I'll try it out and we'll see what happens!
Sorry I forgot to mention that I use the default APN.
Abhinav,
Ok great!
No that's fine....... I figured you did anyway. Which is good cuz that means you didn't have to do anything extra to keep things in line.
Allright I'll try it too then...... hopefully I have the same luck. lol
Thanks!
Abhinav,
Since yesterday I've been using Stock and Textra's been uninstalled. I also reverted to my default APN and re-enabled VoLTE. We'll see how things go in the next few weeks regarding MMS messages.
One thing I noticed though after switching is that when I got an MMS message with a pic attached, my Stock app would create a separate thread for the sender, which would only have a "Message not downloaded" text in it and nothing else, and then the actual group MMS text (separate thread) with the attached word message & pic would be there. So then I have to go and delete that sender only text thread b/c it has nothing of importance. Why does Stock even create that?? I wish I knew how to make it stop. But if this works out like it has for you, I guess I can't really complain.
2 other minor things that I wish Stock would include are: 1) Let you choose the theme for background and text boxes like Textra does (I don't like white backgrounds very much) and 2) I wish it would let you choose the notification light color like Textra does. The blinking white light is the same one that my e-mail and voicemail apps use. For Textra, it would let you choose any color, and I'd choose blue.
Oh well. lol
Thanks.
Let me ask you........ I saw a post from last Nov where you said you were using Google Messenger, but now you say you use Stock. I'd actually prefer to use GM, but let me ask you, why did you go back to Stock? Was there an issue with GM? Please give as much detail as possible.
I see from that post that there issues with double messages etc. Do you know of anyone who has tried GM POST-Lollipop on the Z3 with VoLTE enabled w/o issue?
Thank You.
Hello, sorry I have to change my XDA theme just to enter this thread, so I didn't see your replies till now lol. As for Hangouts I had issues sending MMS via WiFi so I had to use stock and haven't gone back since.
Well I just tested again since you asked, same issue even now with Hangouts.
Abhinav,
It's fine. No prob!
Hangouts? No I asked about Google Messenger. lol I only use Hangouts for IMs.
Just reread my last post and lemme know when you can. Thanks man!!
My apologies, I tried Messenger just now, same issue, it says cellular data is turned off.
No problem brotha. lol
Google Messenger is saying that? So even though your cellular data IS on it says it's off??
I briefly tried GM earlier on. Seems to work fine, but since Textra didn't seem to mix well with VoLTE, I'm wary of trusting another third party texting app, EVEN one made by Google. lol
That would be correct. Maybe the stock messenger is somehow tweaked to allow MMS via WiFi.
Oh ok. Weird b/c I'm NOT having that issue. And yes, I believe Lollipop fixed the Stock app finally with regards to MMS and even WiFi being on when an MMS comes in.
My one issue with Stock is, b/c I can't whitelist it on Stamina Mode Whitelist, even though it does LET MMS messages through right away when Stamina Mode has kicked in (15 min after screen went off), even though I have "Auto Download MMS messages" enabled, it doesn't always download them. So if I get a mass text from some people, I'm MAYBE gonna have to manually download each message individually? GM doesn't appear to do that from a test I ran, but will it work with VoLTE enabled? lol (Let me stress again, Stock only does this SOMETIMES, not all the time.)
I tried another test and GM failed in 2 MINOR ways: 1) When Stamina Mode is on and WiFi too, my Z3 DOES NOT notify me of the incoming MMS message (b/c of Stamina Mode being on probably). Upon turning the screen on though the message comes in right away, and the time stamp on it is actually correct, and it already downloaded the MMS msg too unlike what Stock sometimes does. 2) The sender's phone doesn't show DELIVERED when using GM on my phone, just SENT. But with Stock it does show as DELIVERED.
Although I dislike the idea of having to SOMETIMES manually download MMS messages, I dislike the idea of not being notified about them until I turn on the screen even more. lol Therefore, I'm going to stick with Stock. lol

No SMS/MMS on Verizon

*SOLVED* (See my post #11)
Hello all,
I'm having trouble getting any text on my U12+. I've seen one other case on androidCentral forums but not much of any results. Figure i would chime in and see if anyone else figured this out.
I had this issue as well. I had to go to a Verizon store and get a new sim card, which he activated in my old HTC 10 then put into the U12+. After that the tech suspended my sms service then reactivated and I was good to go. The only issue I have is that I can not receive MMS messages from any 3rd party app, so I am stuck using the stock one.
Call Verizon -- spent 3 minutes with a level 1 technician who re-provisioned the phone for sms & mms. All is working as expected (although the stock messaging system wouldn't send GIFs, but I downloaded Textra and it works fine).

Are you able to receive mms in Textra? I can send mms and sms in any app, but can only receive mms pictures in Verizon messages

Soooooooo, it turns out there's an MMS bug with Textra which hasn't been fixed yet. I tried all the suggested steps (clean install, change MMS behavior, modify APN settings, etc) and MMS doesn't work with Textra. I emailed the developers and we'll see what happens.
I then downloaded Pulse and everything works as expected with that app. Not sure about any other third party messaging apps right now.

I emailed textra support over the weekend and after running through all the settings, they had me install android messages and that did not work with MMS as well. I tried with a few other 3rd party apps and they came to the conclusion that it is an android Oreo bug and they can't do anything to fix it.
Thanks everyone! I will try the steps mentioned above and report back.
Interestingly enough mms receive works for me on Verizon messages and the default htc text app. It does not work (just receiving pics) in Textra or Android messages. This feels like an OS side issue? I was on the phone with tier 2 support when I first got it and they reprovisioned twice. Then said just use the apps that work lol

Hey Guys I have something similar I have a ticket opened with tier 2 but my problem is that I can't get incoming text messages. I can send from the stock app but just no incoming... I factory reset twice, reset network settings twice but still same problem. Also tried the android messages app and Verizon app.

That's what my issue is. Can send but not receive. Haven't called yet. I'm going to in just a bit. Will report back.
Just got off the phone with Level 2 support. He tried reprogramming the sim card but that didn't work.
BUT he dug deep and did what he called a "CDMA list feature activation"
and then my text and mms started coming through in android messages. also voicemail. apparently that was also affected.
Hope that helps everybody. call support and let them know about this. skip the guess work.

Have you tried using a 3rd part app for texting like Textra to see if it works? I can only use the default stock app but called to see if this would fix anything on my end. Level 2 support told me that the CDMA list feature was already activated and they could not remove it from my account as it was active.

All I use is Android messager and occasionally switch to the stock messenger to send higher quality picture messages. So far everything I've done on Android messager is working.

Guess I'm stuck with stock, I sent myself a picture with android messenger that timed out and said "Message expired or not available". Very annoying whatever is going on.

Textra developer suggested turning off MMS Auto Retrieve in stock messaging app, rebooting, and trying to do MMS with Textra again. It didn't work for me, but can't hurt you to try it with android messenger. Even with Textra MMS timeout issues, Pulse is working perfectly for me. Maybe give that app a shot? YMMV ... just throwing out some ideas for you.

Just tried it, no go as well. Funny thing is, i froze the stock messages with titanium as well, but it thawed itself on reboot. I'll give Pulse a try, does it compress images sent?

Not 100% sure about compression, but there didn't seem to be any loss in quality when I texted pictures or animated GIFs to myself

Pulse works great, wonder why other apps are having issues. Thanks for the recommendation!
