Gaming Issues - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

OK so I've had my Asus TF300T for 2 Days now n when ever I play a game that's high graphics they seem to crash n the screen flickers
So far games that are crashing are
GTA 3
Riptide GP
Heroes Call THD
Shadowgun THD
I really cba to download n pay for more games just to see em crash
Could it be the stock Rom ?
Been hearing bad optimization with the stock Rom and a lot of people have been unhappy with it
Would I be best contacting Asus or the place I bought it from
Or would rooting and installing a Custom Rom
be better ?

Check my thread "is this a common problem" there is more users with the same problem and i have sent mine for repair without a help. So i think its a software problem. I still dont want to break warranty yet.

So its a common issue, most people are saying its a software issue not hardware and in that case I'll wait for a way to root my TF300T
Without having to unlock it, at least then i can unroot and have full warranty back
Cheers Btw http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Riptide GP
Shadowgun THD
Play fine in my TF300T.
Have you try to do a hard reset?

I just dont know why only a couple people have it, like all other people have no problems...

i have been playing shadowgun and Dead trigger for the past month...quite a bit actually....and just in the last couple days i have noticed it starting to studder/freeze/crash on me....the only way i am able to play it is by dropping the graphics down to low or regular. not a huge deal since the "tegra 3" optimized graphics are a little cheesy to me.

Try using ram manager pro and set it to hard gaming haven't had a freeze since then. Before I used to do cold boot before playing to prevent freezes. So yeah it's a software problem.
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using Tapatalk 2

I play dead trigger and hero's call, both run fine, even on balanced mode, though hero's call runs better on performance mode.
However, I always clear the cache and ram before starting either.

I have done a factory reset n still no look, i don't know how to do a hard reset or a cold boot or even clear out cache and ram, I'm very new to Android
Thanks for all your help Btw :good:

to do a cold boot: turn your tablet off, press and hold the power AND the volume DOWN button until it powers on, you'll see something like "wipe" and an Android icon/picture, with some text on top, DO NOT touch or press anything, after about 10 seconds it will show something like "cold booting..." (i don't remember the exact words), just leave it there and it will boot like normally. -> basically you turn your tablet off, press and hold the power button AND the volume DOWN then it will show whatever images/text just ignore them and it will boot normally, the process happens very fast.
also i think this is for this tablet only, not for every android devices,
and i'm new to tablet too so correct me if i'm wrong
but i have this issue too, it doesn't always happen to me but sometimes it happens it just keeps crashing like that for the whole day, then the next day it's ok, maybe a software issue, i already started a thread before you lol http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1828685

How do you clear the ram/cache? Is it the one click clean asus tool?

I use the Asus task widget (one click), to kill all the tasks, then use an app called Cache Cleaner from Google play.

TEGRA game crash

Anyone experiencing Tegra games crashing on tf300? I tried ME, demolition, and dark meadow, somehow they all work after boot but if you use the tablet for a while then the game starts to crash. Demolition wont even get into game.(game loads but doesntget into stage where you have to stamp. It just shows white screen)
I have been trying to get the game working without reboot but doesn't work. I have tried clear dalvik cache, disable most Asus apps, developer option to limit background process to 1, enable disable various apps and functions but none seems to work. I know the games work for sure because if I reboot they all work perfectly... all regular games and apps work great all the time.. its only those thd games....
Any expert please share your opinion and experience ...

Anyone has same experience?
Hi, got the same problem here and its not only tegra games, its done it for me with EA and gameloft games too. I am still experimenting but it looks like I can get them to work stable after using the program fast reboot, download it from the market and see how you go.
But this is just a workaround, there must be an app that is either conflicting with these games or is corrupting memory in some way after it is run.

Same as you, haven't had any crashes on tegra games, but have had them in EA and Gameloft, sometimes gameloft games just freezes the display but the sound keeps playing I can even control the actions in game I just can't see them. Reboot always fixes them.

Exactly! The screen-freezing issue has happened to me in EA Gameloft and Tegra games. Glad to hear its not just my device that is defective(?)
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF300T using XDA Premium HD app
My guess is that for EA and Gameloft games we will have to wait for an update, since they just updated their list of compatible devices and didn't update the game version.
Think we might need an actual update from Asus, because alot of games have the same problem so looks like it is a bug in the system not the games themselves.
Will continue to look into it and maybe find the app that is causing the problem.

All tegra games were also crashing for me, but a factory reset fix the issue.
Sounds very much like this issue that currently is plaguing the Transformer Prime.
After much analysis, I determined it to be related to some type of cache-coherency issue with running ARMv7 code. Very likely the same problem affects the 300T.
Same probs here with Tegara and gameloft

Hi,
Do you mean after factory reset everything is fixed (not need to reboot anymore) or it still only works right after factory reset (crash comes back after using tablet for a while)?

Hi.
Folowing this post because my TF300T (.29, no root) has been having problems with several games.
After reading this i did a cold boot and haven't had any problems since. (No factory reset needed)
Has anyone had a similar experience?
Why is this?

I don't have a TF300T, so I can't confirm; however, the Transformer Prime seems to have some type of instability (perhaps caused by a cache-coherency issue) when running code compiled for the newer ARMv7 instruction set and hitting high cpu/memory loads. Since the TF300T is likely using similar (if not the same) base OS, the problem is likely affecting the TF300T as well. This would also explain why users are mostly seeing this problem on games optimized for the Tegra 2/3 processors, since those are the very games that will be using the new ARMv7 instructions.

Game crashes, flickering and NvRmChannelSubmit failed

Im getting constant game crashes with 3D-games like GTA, ME: Infiltrator, Heroes Call etc. The screen goes crazy with flickering a couple of minutes into the game and sometimes it just crashes when starting up. Ive tried rebooting but at the most I get a couple of minutes before it crashes again, is anyone else having these problems?
Dont know what to try next except rooting and playing around with the schedulers.
In aLogcat im getting alot of these connected to the crash, seems to be memory related:
D/NvOsDebugPrintf( 5793): NvRmChannelSubmit failed (err = 196623, SyncPointValue = 1319148)
The Transformer Prime seems to have the same problem:

Had the same issue with Dead Trigger..
I've also had those issues with almost all 3D games, but factory reset (and rooting, but I don't know if there is some relation) solve them all..
I've tried almost all Tegra 3 compatible games and so far no issue at all, it works great. Some "old" games may not work but it's not the Infinity to blame.

Here is the answer I got:
Dear valued customer
Thank you for contacting ASUS Technical Service
To resolve the issue, we recommend performing a full factory reset. Prior to performing the full factory reset, please back up all personal files because data will be erased during the process. Note that all your applications are tied to your Google account. Please remove the micro SD card if you have one inserted.
To perform a full factory reset please follow the instructions below:
1) Enter Settings menu
2) Select Privacy settings
3) Select Factory data reset
Once the factory reset starts, simply follow in onscreen instructions. When it is complete, the unit will restart.
If your could still not solve your problem after my suggestion, would you mind sending your product back to our local service center for comprehensive inspection and help you to fix the problem? If you do not mind, please try to contact our local service center for the process.

Guys maybe this will not help you but i've read that some users fixed the gaming issues by using the stock launcher instead of a 3rd party one. They where using Apex launcher and had lot of stuttering in games but maybe other launchers could cause the same issue.
I'm using Nova and have zero issues with games.

This is the Asus memory issue which is haunting all of their tablets.
I also got this crashing with Samurai Vs Zombies and other 3D games. All 2d games were ok.
But now because of many other problems already sent my unit back. Too bad didn't immediately get changed for new one and it went to Asus repair center.. Thank god for once didn't root my unit
so do you think this is a hardware memory issue or just a software one?
not sure why it happens to some people and not others.

You got the official update or have some working JB build on there? I just checked again and it's not showing for me yet...
I had no problems up until about a week ago, now every 3D game except Mini Motor does the crashing/flickering. The weird thing is, with Hero's Call in particular, the game keeps running, it just stops updating the screen. I can hear my butt getting kicked until I touch where the pause button is, then then just background music. Another touch and I'm being hacked up again, etc. Since it always seems to freak out alternating between two frames, I would guess it's a buffering issue. I wouldn't be surprised if JB fixed it, since it approaches the frame buffer in a very different way...
Try booting into the recovery and clearing the cache. It solved the problem for me. To do this hold the power button and volume down button. When you see the text on the top left screen press the volume up button.

Clearing which cache (how)?
And... having rooted my TF700, will this reboot do anything to that?
And what after booting into recovery and clearing the cache? Should I then reboot (off/on cycle) it again?

[Q] Is this a common problem?

So yesterday I ran onto a problem:
So I downloaded Riptide GP and then I started the race but in the second turn everything just got messy and the game sounds just continued as I could still hear them. I didn't know what it was but today I got a idea that it may be the force GPU rendering, so I turned it off and tried again so no problems in Riptide,
but in dead trigger and some other games i've noticed a same kinda lag doesn't matter if GPU rendering is on or off. The screen just gets messy but I can hear continuing sounds... and then the game force closes (without any kinda message)
So have you guys had any trouble with performance?
I'm overall quite "disappointed" with the whole tegra 3 I don't think it's "that" good :-[
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T
I haven't played Riptide, but I did play Dead Trigger. I didn't notice any lag, but the game was buggy on its own. I would be shooting zombies, then suddenly, I'm turned either 90 or 180 degrees and shooting at a wall. Combine that with the non-continuous look, and I'm frantically making little swipes with my right thumb to turn toward the zombies again. It makes the game unenjoyable (the fact that the story sounds like it was written by an eight year old doesn't help).
As for your lag problems, have you tried the usual troubleshooting methods (cold boot, factory reset, etc.)? I know that GTA3 recommends rebooting the tablet and starting with empty RAM (as empty as it gets, anyway) before you play it, and I have noticed a big performance difference when doing that versus playing with open apps. Maybe you could try that?

Yea that turning issue in dead trigger is really annoying.
Often after a reboot it has helped.
Is cold boot a normal reboot and what is the menu which you get when you press volume down plus power at boot or was it volume up?
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T
When you press volume down and power while booting, it shows you the bootloader menu. If you don't press anything, it will do a cold boot, which means it clears cache and dalvik cache.

Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T
Yes. To be honest, though, I may have been wrong about how to cold boot. I think if you go to the bootloader menu, you have to press volume up. I'm pretty sure, now that I think about it, waiting will take you to recovery. Volume up gives you the option to factory reset, boot into Android, or wait 10 seconds to cold boot. Regardless, it will tell you when you get to the menu. Just pay attention to what it says.

Fed up with this tablet

i have nothing but problems with this tablet all it does is reboot after reboot i have tried all the jb firmwares and the same happens. i think its so unfair you cant go back to ics even tho there where reboots with that it was less frequent. i think it must be a hardware fault as there are enough jb firmwares but not many people having issues with it . when i installed the deodexed stock rom everytime i pressed the power button it restarted so i put clean rom and that fixed that issue but still reboots about 10 times in an hour. i wish i got a galaxy tab now my friend has no problems with that.

do you think ad blockers can affect stability as i have now put [email protected] rom but not installed any system specific like adfree or root uninstaller only games and had no reboots yet so far 1 hour 33mins normally would of had about 10 by now also can alternative software keyboards cause it? i was using jellybean keyboard pro but at the mo im just using the stock asus one? is chrome a culprit as well i seem to find crashes when doing google searches and it freezes when i scroll down the screen?

Sounds like a bad internal flash memory, or perhaps just a couple of strategically crappy placed bad sectors of memory. Which is causing your tablet to crash after filling up with some apps and app caches. :-/
Either way, I'd say you have to return it to the store for service.
I think it was a waste of money for me.
I should of just got an android phone or a new laptop.

Random Rebooting

So I've had my TF700 for almost a year now and I've always had a random reboot issue. Each patch would change, but recently I've upgraded to 4.1.1 Android version (Kernel: 3.1.10-0001) (Build: JRO03.us_epad-10.4.4.25-20121228) and have noticed that the tablet seems sluggish and I'm getting more reboots. Normally if I just read or websurf it wasn't bad. After about a week or so of constant use it would freeze or reboot.
However after the upgrade I've started playing a few games and the device seems to crawl when switching from one app to another (even in performance mode) and the reboots come randomly.
Is there any advice? Should I take it back to bestbuy and trade it in while it is still under warranty?

However after the upgrade I've started playing a few games and the device seems to crawl when switching from one app to another (even in performance mode) and the reboots come randomly.
Is there any advice? Should I take it back to bestbuy and trade it in while it is still under warranty?

If you're not into rooting/custom rom etc. which will voids your warranty, you should take it back and exchange for another device like Samsung, nexus etc.., but not another tf700.

May I ask your reasoning for this? I have the keyboard and have loved the ability to use my USBs and the SD cards for both keyboard and device.

Due to Asus's design issue (slow flash memory was installed cause I/O bottle neck), it's not running well with stock rom. If you willing to unlock your device to use custom rom/kernel which make your device fast and smooth but will voids warranty. If you hold on to stock rom, you will be very frustrating about the slowness, stuttering and freezing. With tf700, if an app freeze or or hang (due to I/O poor design issue) will cause your device to reboot. Also a high percentage of hardware defects are to be considered, you better off go with Samsung or Nexus.

I see. Is it possible to fix the rebooting by Romming? I have no problem voiding warranties, but the constant reboots are getting annoying.

The answer is yes and no. There are multiple issues related to random rebooting. Possible reasons: JB software bug, bad apps, wifi driver and hardware. You won't know until you try to fix it. That's is why I recommend not to dive in since you already see "issue" with a brand new device. The risk is on your side more than the good.

I see. Thanks for the advice.
Are there any particular tablets out there that somebody would recommend? I'm not a big fan of the Nexus, as nice as it is. I am kind of attached to my SD cards.
To be honest, there really isn't a good alternative if you want the keyboard-dock option.
Also, I'd be willing to bet that most TF700 owners don't have "random" reboots.
However, before unlocking your device, please tell us a little more about your setup - do you have tons of apps installed? What about apps like System Tuner? I'd recommend running as close to stock as possible (least apps installed) and see if the reboots still occur.
Just to clarify, you've had random reboots from day one of owning the device?

Just to add my two cents....
I bought a TF700 last summer. It was fine until the latest round of OTA upgrades from Asus in November or December; then I started getting random reboots as well, and the tablet became slow as a slug in molasses even in performance mode (which I have to set as soon as I boot in order to even get minimally-acceptable performance). I too hate to give up the keyboard and extra storage, but I have to admit this thing has been a disappointment.

Did you try a fresh install after this happened? Obviously, that kind of slowness is not even close to normal, even for a completely stock device...

Well the random reboots came after the second firmware upgrade. I kind of just figured that it had to deal with until the next firmware upgrade. I tend not to install a ton of applications on the device. I have the google apps (gmail, voice, talk, authenticator, drive, sky maps, skydrive, maps), Games (Rage of Bahamut, Transformers Legends, Tegra Zone), Books (Kindle, Adobe Reader, Comixology), Web (Youtube, Chrome, Netflix) and Kaspersky.
I have held off on the firmware upgrades until I was certain that there wouldn't be a major firmware upgrades coming down the line. The reboots weren't bad. Usually if I left the comixology, kindle, and ran mutliple games for a long time with the system would other slow down or lock up and I would just reboot. After this firmware it would just reboot if I opened a single app and shut off the screen. If it didn't reboot, when I unlocked the screen the device would just become incredibly slow.
I just got off the phone with Best Buy and they said the only thing I would be able to trade for is another TF700 with the warranty I have.

I'm going to be honest with saying I have been nervous about doing this before I talked to others to see if this was a normal event for the device.

I would definitely not call random rebooting "normal" for the TF700. Obviously, there are some folks that are having issues with random reboots, but I think that is a very small percentage. To be honest, you can do a google search for just about any device + "random reboot" and you'll get results for almost every device known to mankind. I also believe that the problem can usually be fixed by starting clean and slowly introducing your needed apps. Yes, it's a pain in the a$$ and you shouldn't need to do it, but I truly believe that most of these issue can be fixed with a little effort.

Is there an instruction manual for a clean installation?

First download Asus full frimware and unzip the zip file to the root of your microsdcard. Then go into settings -> backup and reset, tab on Factory data reset this will auto boot into your stock recovery and it will wipe data. OR you can boot into stock recovery and select "wipe data". Once done boot int recovery and just wait for few second, it you auto flash the Asus full firmware.

No, I haven't yet. I keep hoping there would be another OTA from Asus that would fix the problem. I've rooted my device, but that's all. I've not even installed recovery, and the bootloader is still locked. The reboots don't come often enough that they don't really bother me anymore. What really bugs me is that the tablet was working great until that pair of OTA's at the end of last year. Up till that time I had no reboots and everything was working smoothly. Like an idiot I installed them and now aside from the reboots the response lag is terrible. I can tap on the clock to bring up the menu and it can take up to 5 seconds before the menu even appears.
I'll get around to doing a fresh install one of these days, but I've been too busy.

I wouldn't count on it, since it is not a "known issue" with the TF700, as far as ASUS is concerned...

That might suggest it's an app compatibility issue introduced by the update -- I hope so for your sake. (I've had that happen a few times, too.)

Well... I would hardly call you an idiot for installing a manufacturer-provided update. I must admit I am slowly weening myself off of the Ï have to have the brandnewest bestest EVA update" because I have spent so much time fixing whatever issues a new update brought -- I am slowly beginning to understand the motto if it ain't broken, don't fix it.

Given you're still sporting stock unlocked, that's the only route available... for now. Once you unlock and go custom, you'll be happier. :good: Hold on, my friends.
