Hiya,
I just replaced the flash on my G2. I bought it from KR-Net on ebay for USD$6. They sent me the tiny replacement board and even included the tools I needed to take apart the back of the phone and pop the case.
From getting the envelope to having my phone back to 100% was about 15 minutes.
Anyone who can turn a screwdriver can do this fix.
I've had several occasions where my flash stopped working, and all it took was a reboot. I would check if it's that before doing any hardware adjustments.

That must have been frustrating. Atleast it all turned out well.

It was very frustrating. I don't take many pictures, but I used a flashlight app almost on a daily basis, as well as Instant Heart Rate Monitor. I thought about replacing only the LED, but I never read of anyone having a part number or of anyone who had replaced the LED.
It turns out that the LED is a miniscule SMD version on a very tiny PCB.
It honestly couldn't have been easier. True, I did need a magnifying glass, but that's only because my eyes are somewhat past their prime
Just three tiny torx screws and a plastic prybar (I think a guitar pick would also work) and the back case was off. Then I gently peeled up a bit of sticky copper that shields part of the board and the board pops right out.
I have learned my lesson: Don't use the LED Flashlight on the HIGH function, when the low beam is enough.
yeah everything you have to change, speaker and so forth are really easy on these, a plastic knife and 3 screws and you can access the things that break first, and they are cheap as hell to
I also replaced my flash recently. Was using the flash as a light when building a friend's new PC, but I sat it down with it on super-bright mode and forgot. About 20 minutes later, I picked the phone up and saw that it thought the light was on.
It may not have been the same eBay seller, but I got the same thing, for around 7 bucks, got the replacement light, "soft opening" tool to crack the case open, and the torx screw driver needed. I think they even sent me a tiny phillips screw driver, but was not needed.
Bookmarked, if I ever need it. Thanks so much!
My only problem is the void adhesive (can't recall the right word in english) on the screw...
I've noticed that the LED on the G2 (Or DZ if it makes a difference) is very bright, the brightest LED I've ever seen on a phone (On deathray mode, or high brightness mode on the torch app), is the replacement LED just as bright? Not that it really matters much but I'm just curious. Also how often did you use the LED and how long till it died?
Do you happen to know of somewhere that shows how to open the back case of the phone? I have some dust or something on my lens and can't figure it out.

both me and my girlfriend have had g2s for a long time, I use tourch constantly, just not on death ray and she use her camera like none other. neither one of use has burnt out our led but its hard to estimate how much
specificaly its been used. I gather it varies but should take a long time. I also gather a replacement led will be just as bright as they are probably oem as who would make an aftermarket one

Good to know, so I can use the high brightness mode without worrying too much
Well, sure... But that two weeks without a light was annoying... Stick with low unless it's an emergency

My wife's phone got water damaged a few days ago and I took it apart and removed as much water as possible and put it in a bowl of rice to set.
I finally tried turning it on today and it seems to work fine (I think, syncs etc.) except that the screen does not power on. I can see the backlights when I look at it from an angle so it appears to receive power of some kind.
I took it apart further to see if I could see anything and I found that on the display cable there is a black area which looks like it is damaged/burnt on the cable. There was also a little bit of black on the connector but I believe I got most of that cleaned off, but the area on the cable does not seem to be able to be cleaned.
I don't really know anything about electronics or parts of a phone and was wondering if anyone that did could suggest what my next steps would be to restore the phone/screen to operational condition? Part replacement etc.
Thank you.
It sounds like the chip connected to that cable got fried, hence the burnt spots.

If that's the case I'm assuming there isn't much I can do? I don't want to solder anything but could can replace anything that just snaps in.
Thanks.

Bump for last ditch effort to get some opinions before giving up.
Recently my phone screen started to stay black when i go to turn it on, but the phone itself is awake. I can feel the vibration response from using the phone, the screen itself just stays black.
I've tried rebooting the phone, clean flashing a different rom, flashing it back to stock via Odin, and I've read through all other threads about this topic. Nothing fixes it. Does anyone have any ideas as to how to fix the phone?
Thanks!

My guess is the connection between the screen and the main board has become disconnected. However this is only a guess based upon what happened to one of my phones which I then fixed by opening up and checking this connection. Depending upon the device this can be anywhere from easy to virtually impossible to do. Luckily I haven't had to open up my GS3 (yet).

You shouldn't have any problems taking it apart and putting it back together. I did have a little bit of a issue trying to put the antenna wire back on but I think I ended up using a ball point pen to reattach it.

I had it all taken apart except for the screen, which coincidentally is the part i need to take off. I'm just slightly hesitant about it since it's easy to break...

Have you used ifixit as a reference to aid you? They have teardowns of nearly every entertainment electronic device that has relevance. Here's the international S3 teardown.
I want to make this clear, I have never taken apart my phone to the extent of getting beneath the display or anything that in depth. So I can not troubleshoot with you should you have questions.

Yeah that could be a bad idea because you need special adhesive to put it back on. I don't even wat to think about cleaning the old adhesive off if you can reuse the old screen.
A friend of mine had a Galaxy S3 Amber with a broken (and blank) screen and wanted her data from it's internal memory that is locked and not in debugged mode. I did a lot of research and found the best, most efficient way was to do a motherboard swap with another gs3. I had a Galaxy S3 Blue. I watched a couple of videos and it seemed rather easy. I gathered the proper tools and was EXTREMELY careful not to break or rip anything (and to my knowledge i did not). When i put her motherboard from the amber one into the blue one and the screen would not come on. My first thoughts were it must be her motherboard that went bad. Well when i went to put my blue gs3 back together (again being very careful this entire time) I'm now having the same issue as she was. Black screen, no back light. The bottom lights DO come on and i feel it vibrate when i get a message. There was also no power on chime...
I know its hard to tell with out looking but any ideas on what could be wrong or what i might have screwed up? i checked all the connections and everything looks perfect. Nothing is bent or connected wrong and I didn't force or break anything.
update: so i found that the touch part of it still works fine. i can hear the ripple unlock as well as all the other sounds and such when i touch around and i can here it opening apps. the only issue lies in the screen itself being blank with no back light what so ever,
First of all remove the battery and attempt to power on, then leave without battery for 1 min, I know this sounds silly but it worked on an old iPhone 3G so anythings worth a shot.
If that doesn't work go back into the S3 and make sure all the data clips are firmly in place and locked down but not twisted in anyway. Also make sure their is no moisture or dust on the ribbons. You may not realise it but even the smallest imperfection with this can cause massive issues down the line.
If all else fails her phone may have broke your screen, I don't know how but it is a possibility
Hope I could help and good luck

so i took it apart again today to double check and clean everything and under inspection i noticed a teeny tiny slit on the edge of the lower, bigger ribbon. i know the smallest bit could be horrid. Any fix and would that cause just the screen to not show? i don't know if that is the led connection but i think it may be.

If theirs a slit I'm affraid that could be it for the screen, like I said even the smallest imperfection can cause massive issues. The slit is probably in the one of the data sections of the ribbon cable which is why data for the screen isn't being carried.
For the fix I don't think their is one unless you can fit a new ribbon on to yout S3's screen
Sorry about the screen
So I took it all apart again. Cleaned ever little thing I could and now it works again. ?

No problem, thats what XDA is here for:laugh:
I just dropped my P900 and it went completely dark. :crying: There's no mark, not a crack, nothing, but the display is completely dark. The touch buttons on each side of the home button lights up, but the display does not.
Any advice? Or it is Samsung support next?
May the ribbon for the display is disconnected from the circuit board.

Yeah, maybe I should open it myself and have a look. Are there any warranty seals that I will break if I pry it open? I have all the tools necessary, but are there any guides for opening the P900? I wouldn't want to break anything...

This is a video on replacing the battery but it helped me when I re-soldered the battery connection on mine.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VeSG0hHpAG8
I've opened mine a few times and haven't noticed any specific seals but mine was refurbished to start with.
Also I have the proper tools but found a guitar pick was easier to use personally on this tablet.
Starting at the power port to remove the back made it a lot easier for me, its pretty hard to get anything between the back cover and the tablet in other areas.

This was indeed the problem! The connector has some kind of snap lock that had come loose. So easily fixed. Thanks for encouraging me to try to fix it myself. :good:
Glad I helped!
Sorry to hijack your thread but figured my problem might be related.
About 2 weeks ago I charged my tablet and stored it away. The other day I tried to use it and it wouldn't turn on. I tried to charge it but that didn't work either as there isn't even charging activity on the screen. I ordered a replacement battery thinking it might be that, but I was wrong. I still can't make it turn on. Any ideas what it can be? Thanks

I had a similar experience. 3 weeks ago the 1x my SM P-900 is out of its protective case, it falls 2.5 ft off a table. Hits the floor. No visible cracks or breaks. I could hear hear it operating but the screen was black. Took 3 weeks to talk myself up to it but I pried off the back & used a magnifier glass to c.a.r.e.f.u.l.l.y check every ribbon connect. 1 connector's pins were very slightly off alignment. Couldnt find anything else. Put it back together...Yes! Screen works. All seems good. Took the back off again & securely taped over every ribbon connect I could find. Long time intermittent screen flicker issue (when battery was below 40%) also seems to be gone. That has been the best, eye squintin', back hunchin', shallow breathin', micro-screw wrangling, time investment my non-hardware tech self has ever spent. Wooo!
I just discovered a very thin piece of protective plastic over my fingerprint sensor that really wasn't noticeable unless you scratch it with a fingernail. Once this plastic is removed, your sensor will read your fingerprints so much better.
Just be sure to check for this plastic. If you already knew about it, then please ignore this message.

I had seen reviews before my phone arrived, all mentioned it but its on there really good and could see how some people could miss it.
I leave it on, still works perfect, FYI the camera also has a protector.
LOL! every device with fingerprint in the back brings a plastic screen. I left it on when i bought my LG V20, It reduces the chances for it to get scratched. Although it has been proven that fingerprint still working even after scratched
Both Google Play and my banking app refused to recognize my fingerprints with the plastic on. They'd constantly disable fingerprint recognition after several failed attempts. Now, without the plastic, they work 100% of the time, So if anyone is having issues, they should remove the plastic. Just saying.

I said in the back hahaha. Also, samsung is not know to be a device that put that type of plastic in their home button. (talking from experience buying the galaxy s, s2/3/4/5/6 note note 2/3/4)

"In the back" didn't pop out at me for some reason. Sorry about that. LOL
My intention of my reply though was mainly what you just said: Samsung usually doesn't put plastic on their sensors. My last 2 phones were Samsungs (LG before that, and that was before fingerprint sensors were ever thought up), so I'm not used to finding plastic on the sensors.
I swear though, this V20 is surprising me several times a day. Sometimes good, sometimes bad. Having fingerprint sensor issues and then finding and removing the plastic and discovering that all the issues have gone away is just one of these surprises.

Yeah i had a surprise today, it rebooted by itself (although it does reboot fast i mean literally, 25 second to turn off, then on, then totally initiate to the homescreen) but well, im going to wait 3 more days to see if it was because of bluetooth compatibility issues with my car old bluetooth fm transmitter or if it was because the phone is defective. If it seems like it is defective, i got a green light to go and exchange it already through the phone,

When I had the LG G Pro, I got one that had a bad CPU in it. It randomly rebooted, got really warm in my pocket randomly, and never entered deep sleep. I had to get it replaced because of that. Just keep an eye out for these symptoms.
It could just be a bad battery too. If so, your battery life won't be great, or the level will skip (goes straight from like 50% to 20% instantly). It could also cause a reboot too.
In any case, since you're still within your 14 days, it'd be best to just replace it if it turns out to be defective. :good:

yeah, that's the thing, the exchange can only happen if they conclude that the device is indeed defective. So, i will wait for 3 days and see what happens, if it happens again, it s an immediate replacement, and it will be a battle inside the store if they say no
Thank you!!!

This is exactly what has been going on with my V20, even the battery issue. I took it back to a T-Mo store and they did a warranty replacement no questions asked. Now just waiting for the new to come in. Hopefully this doesn't occur on the new one.
How does the sensor react to a wet finger? Is it still as accurate as normal?
