Battery shut down situation - Asus Transformer TF700

Hey
It is my first post so please be nice.
When I completly shut down my TF 700 it is off. So I thought. But it still drains the battery. It uses about 10% in 24h. This happens when it is in the dock. Im not sure if this occurs when not in the dock.
See y'all.

Check the "ASUS Customized Settings --> Mobiledock battery saving mode" setting. Right at the bottom of the ASUS settings. Also check the "Disconnect network during sleep" setting.
Both settings should be on to increase batter life.

Thats all checked. The point is how can a shut down device drain the battey. When I turn out my Galaxy S2 it wont consume 10% battery in 24h. More like 1% in 7 days off.

You might have a defective battery. I had the same problem with my first OG Transformer dock battery. It would completely discharge in 2-3 days without being used. Once I replaced it I did not have a problem.

No it wasnt the battery. My son stole it when I was sleeping. That little bastard.

Lol that's one of the best reasons for a unusual battery drain I've seen so far.

Not something Asus can do anything about either, Android isn't made to be compatible with battery docks. This is a completely new concept so yeah.

Yes and no. Assus could add an api so that the battery level could be read. I know that ANT+ hardware is not supported in android, but sony-ericsson have them in there X10 mini and provide access via an api. My guess is that assus will provide support for battery level in future updates. New concepts ask some time.

Only way I know how is to plug it into the charger and look at the light pattern. The patterns are described in the manual. Also if it's not plugged in but drops below 10% the red light next to the charging plug will blink red (Asus calls it Orange in their manual).
I tend to disagree with everyone here.
my tablet has been in the dock for 2 days and the tablet was 100 going in and now its 97% i think my tablet might take into account the battery in the dock too. Theres no lighting bolt on the battery

The dock isn't charged. When not attached to anything the dock still drains power on it's own. Fully charge your dock (2~3 hours) and tablet seperately to make sure they're both full, then attach the dock to the tablet and see if the battery meter starts draining right away.

Your tablet obviously is going to sleep properly and doesn't have any apps causing many wakelocks when the screen is off. What happens is it drains the dock's battery first then after that drains the tablets battery. That's straight from Asus. What you're seeing is an affect of that. They've also said they are working on optimizing the way Android handles this second battery so we'll be seeing strange things with the meter until then.

[Q] Tablet and Keyboard Dock battery drains when turned off???

I have had the tablet and the dock battery's drain all the way while connected and with the tablet turned off. I do have the latest firmware for the tablet and the dock.
Has anyone else had this issue?
The battery dock still has draining issues, even while off. I'm not sure why your tablet drained as well -- perhaps the dock started to charge it and tablet turned on due to it? or maybe the tablet started to charge the dock while it was draining and ended up both being dead.
yeah Im really not sure what happened but I do know when I went to turn on the tablet it started up and only had about 13% battery left when it was fully charged when I turned it off.
Check your wireless disconnect policies, if its set to Never then that might explain why.

Im not sure where to check that.
OFF as in you held the power button until it asked if you wanted to shut off, or SLEEP, as in just tapped the power button (or lock button on the keyboard)?
The Lock key on the keyboard, or just tapping the power button puts the unit in SLEEP, which is not really sleeping, it just turns off the screen and depending on your wireless power policy, WiFi may still be on. Apps still run. Stuff still communicates with the interwebs.
off as in i held the power button and hit shut down.
Mine is doing it as well. Did a complete shutdown yesterday after fully charging both the pad and dock. Just turned it on and the dock is blinking orange. I also had the WiFi disabled. Even when you do a shutdown it seems something is not shutting down.

I hope they push the update where we can see the battery live for the dock soon.
Mine is doing the same thing. Keyboard was charged when I closed the lid and then blinking 6 to 8 hrs later. Wasn't doing this with firmware .12 with the keyboard battery indicator. I really hope they bring back some of the .12 features soon.

My keyboard dock no longer seems to hold much if any charge, I left it charging yesterday until the keyboard dock light stopped flashing and stays on steady (I assume that means its full) and now 4 hours later the keyboard dock light is flashing and no longer charging the tablet.
if i recall, this is a known issue with the dock. When not in use, it will still drain the battery. If plugged into the tablet at the time, im pretty sure the tablet will drain also. I think asus is aware and i thought i saw somewhere that there will be a fix once 3.1 is out, that will put the dock into a very low power state when not in use.
so i guess we will see once 3.1 is out

[Q] Battery issues

I have a weird battery issue. I will charge my tablet with dock or the dock by itself all night. The next morning when I plug the two into each other the dock battery reads 100% but drops to 70% within 5 minutes then discharges normally. This makes me believe it is not really charging fully.
I have seen some battery issues but not quite like this. My tablet is a B70, dock is a B60, using Megatron Rom.

guide to keeping battery healthy (not mine)
1. Charge your phone fully to 100%
2. Reboot to ClockworkMod, go to advanced, "wipe battery stats".
3. Use your phone till it dies (screen goes blank, ignore the battery percentages and low battery warning)
4. Charge your phone again till 100%
5. From now on just try to make sure you charge your phone before it reaches 30%, and you'll be fine with an increased batter performance for few weeks/months.
Thank you.
Perhaps the issue is that I basically use the dock until it dies completely and then some just about every weekday.

It should go to about 3% then stop it only completely drains if the tablet drains too
If it actually goes to 0 then thats a hardware issue
I am pretty sure I have seen it hit 0 before. I will watch it this time. I know I have used it to the point where the light goes past the fast blinking stage and goes out completely and then the tablet battery starts to drain instead. I have never drained both the dock AND the tablet though.
I was planning to get a TF Infinity when it comes out but if this is how finicky things are going to be I may not want another.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk 2
Ya thats defiantly not right... It should only drain to 3 before switching to the tablet battery. HW issue most likley
Well I will try wiping stats after I charge it tonight and see if that helps.
Thanks for your help.

Battery drop during charging?

My tf700 sometimes drops to 97% while using it charged, is this normal?
I haven't had this happen, but I wouldn't say it's abnormal yet. Try letting the tablet die, then fully charge it with it off. Then letting it die again. Hopefully it should get your battery back to normal.

Yes. Trying to keep a Li-ion battery at 100% charge all times is bad for the battery.
Yes that's normal. The charger only charges to 100% when sleeping. Every other time it goes to 97% to spare the battery, plus usage eats about 3% anyway.. (Lithium-Ion batteries live longest when kept between 60 and 90%. Fully draining and charging is actually rather bad for it. The only reason you do it once or twice is to recalibrate the battery-level indication.)
It is very difficult to fully drain a mobile devices battery. Notice if you attempt to power the device on it after it "dies", it will notify you the battery is too low, thus the battery is never "empty".

Ah, there we have it. WiFi drains the power like a vampire. (The folklore kind, not the sparkly ones. ) That's what's causing the drops, with WiFi on the battery lasts about 3-4 hours as opposed to 9. Performance mode spikes the CPU from 1.5ghz to 1.8ghz, and that also drains more power.
There's nothing wrong with your tablet's battery.

[Q] Poor standby battery life

I have had my Transformer for about two weeks now, it is unlocked and rooted with the latest stock firmware. So far I am really impressed with this tablet in almost every way except for the standby battery life. I have tried several things including a tasker profile to switch on airplane mode & disable sync with the screen off and an aggressive juice defender profile but the best I can do is about 4-5% drain after 12 hours of standby. I have read several posts regarding battery & standby life and this seems to be pretty typical with what other users are experiencing. My question is why is this so poor?
I am coming from a 7" original kindle fire. On the stock rom that would drain only about 1% every 24 hours in standby. When ICS/Jellybean roms were first introduced that standby drain jumped to about 1% per hour. After several months/iterations the developer (Hashcode) was able to tweak something to get the drain back to something resembling stock (probably 2-3% per 24 hours). Any hope of something like that happening with the transformer?
Gsam battery monitor indicates that when in standby the Kernel (OS) is using the majority of the battery power. Anyone know/understand what it is actually doing? I would think that in airplane mode and deep sleep this thing should drain almost no power at all (system tuner pro indicates that it is deep sleeping just fine).
Sorry for the long post, I think I needed to just rant a bit. I realize that I could power the unit down when not in use, but IMO that takes away some of the convenience of a tablet vs a laptop, even though the boot time is less than a minute. Any thoughts?
I didn't read everything... but endure nothing is running in the background. For instance, Facebook will periodically get your location, download stuff, wake your device up. This greatly kills the battery during standby. I also recommend turning off WiFi when not using it. I lose about 2 percent throughout my 8 hour work day with WiFi on and screen turned off. There is most likely a rogue app preventing deep sleep.

I appreciate the response, but unfortunately I have already looked for any rogue apps, turned off wifi, gps, and auto-sync, then placed in airplane mode. It looks like deep sleep is working fine from what I can see. In my opinion even 2% per 8 hours (6% per day) is too much. I would like to get it to 1-2% per 24 hours. Perhaps I am just too picky but it seems like if the kindle can do it the transformer should be able to.

1 percent is impossible... nothing can do that without completely powering off. All of my android devices, in airplane mode, have about a 2-6 percent drain in standby. You're battery is going to drain. Battery's drain just by having something connected to it. Let alone an entire motherboard. Plus the kindle may have a higher capacity. I haven't looked at the specs but my step mom has the kindle fire and her battery life is horrible. And she barely uses it.
All in all. Weather or not GPS is on or off, or airplane mode, apps can still wake the device. Download betterbatterystats from the play store and see what's using battery. But 1 percent a day is impossible. Period.

Well it will never be doing nothing. Thats impossible. There are always low level kernel/system things happening that require some CPU. Thats why i said a standby drain of 1 percent A DAY is impossible. But 1 percent per 6-8 hours is very possible with limiting background activities/service, turning off Bluetooth/WiFi/Locations and turning off Sync.

the ipad 3 drain about 1% every 24 hours, i know it has bigger battery capacity, but i think it's just a bit more than double our tablet battery capacity, so shouldn't we have only 2 -3 % drain
and yeah i don't use any background syncing or notification, don't leave wifi on when sleep mode, .... the only thing i use is auto-sync but for gmail only, nothing else
does this mean ios has a better sleep mode, like it puts the device into some kind of "extreme" sleep?

you didn't get my point,
you said this tablet drains 6% / 24 hours in sleep mode
i said the ipad 3 has double battery and drains 1% / 24 hours in sleep mode,
so this tablet has half the battery capacity, but drains 6 times more compared to the ipad,
shouldn't it just drain 2 (or maybe 3) times more? that's why i said i expect it to drain about 2 or 3% every 24 hours, not 6 - 8%
and for your information the ipad does not has horrible power management, or at least does not have horrible battery life, i usually get about 10 hours of web browsing with it compared to 5 hours on this tablet

I believe the key is to chase down the programs that are waking the device while the screen is off. My methodology was this:
1. Install a battery monitoring program that lets you view what is using the battery and specifically what programs are waking the device and the number of wakelocks per program. I personally use Gsam Battery Monitor but I believe a lot of people use Bettery Battery Stats for the same thing.
Before going to bed I would charge the device to 100% and then unplug it without turning it on. I would then let it sit usually overnight and until I got home from work the next day (16-20 hours).
2. Open up the battery monitoring software and look at how many times each app woke the device. In Gsam this is done by clicking on “App Usage” from the main screen and then selecting “View Num Times Waking Device” from the drop down menu.
3. Once you know which apps are waking the device you need to figure out what to do about it. It seems that you can control some of them typically by going into the app’s settings and turning off any background checks/updates and turning off any notifications. In my case the main offender was an ebay app that I had installed when I had a few auctions going on last week. It had woken the device over 600 times in 16 hours or so because I had push notifications on! That one I simply uninstalled.
Some programs I could not get to stop waking the device no matter what I changed in the settings of the app. ScoreMobile “TheScore” was one of these. No matter what I did it would wake the device 4 times per hour. Programs like this I chose to freeze with Titanium Backup until I can figure out what to do with them.
I also turned off automatic updating of my google apps, unchecked all 3 boxes under Location Settings”, turned off autosync, turned off calendar notifications, and added a tasker profile that places the tablet in airplane mode when the screen is turned off and turns it off when the screen comes back on. Some of this may be overkill for the time being but right now I am working to get the consumption as low as possible over a 24 hour period then I may start turning things back on until I reach what I consider an acceptable drain.
Sunday night to Monday I went 23 hours with 3% battery drain but I had installed ScoreMobile that day and like I stated above it had like 91 wakeups over that time. I froze that app last night and we will see how it does, I think I should be around 2% for 24 hours.
Let me know if you have any questions.

i only have the tablet alone btw, no keyboard dock (no extra battery)

I agree with Collin. You have trace what's chewing the battery. But I also wanna say I have clean ROM installed as well as the tf700 kernel. So that is prolly playing a huge role in battery life. But straight stock, good luck lol.
