[Q] Tablet and Keyboard Dock battery drains when turned off??? - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have had the tablet and the dock battery's drain all the way while connected and with the tablet turned off. I do have the latest firmware for the tablet and the dock.
Has anyone else had this issue?

The battery dock still has draining issues, even while off. I'm not sure why your tablet drained as well -- perhaps the dock started to charge it and tablet turned on due to it? or maybe the tablet started to charge the dock while it was draining and ended up both being dead.

yeah Im really not sure what happened but I do know when I went to turn on the tablet it started up and only had about 13% battery left when it was fully charged when I turned it off.

Check your wireless disconnect policies, if its set to Never then that might explain why.

Im not sure where to check that.

OFF as in you held the power button until it asked if you wanted to shut off, or SLEEP, as in just tapped the power button (or lock button on the keyboard)?
The Lock key on the keyboard, or just tapping the power button puts the unit in SLEEP, which is not really sleeping, it just turns off the screen and depending on your wireless power policy, WiFi may still be on. Apps still run. Stuff still communicates with the interwebs.

off as in i held the power button and hit shut down.

Mine is doing it as well. Did a complete shutdown yesterday after fully charging both the pad and dock. Just turned it on and the dock is blinking orange. I also had the WiFi disabled. Even when you do a shutdown it seems something is not shutting down.

ASUS never said that they fix the dock battery drain issue while tablet is docked and powered off. Have they?

im not sure. At least i know its not just me.
I hope they push the update where we can see the battery live for the dock soon.

Mine is doing the same thing. Keyboard was charged when I closed the lid and then blinking 6 to 8 hrs later. Wasn't doing this with firmware .12 with the keyboard battery indicator. I really hope they bring back some of the .12 features soon.

My keyboard dock no longer seems to hold much if any charge, I left it charging yesterday until the keyboard dock light stopped flashing and stays on steady (I assume that means its full) and now 4 hours later the keyboard dock light is flashing and no longer charging the tablet.

if i recall, this is a known issue with the dock. When not in use, it will still drain the battery. If plugged into the tablet at the time, im pretty sure the tablet will drain also. I think asus is aware and i thought i saw somewhere that there will be a fix once 3.1 is out, that will put the dock into a very low power state when not in use.
so i guess we will see once 3.1 is out

I believe only Solid Green is full.

Interesting I've only when seen a solid orange light, perhaps that just means charging, will try again tonight.

Same issue. Had a fully charged dock and a partially charged Transformer.
Was very pleased to see the tablet start to charge when I docked it, and not so pleased when I got up in the morning and both were dead.

Leave it turned on then

Just for the record, I have the same issue. Dock battery drains really quickly when turned off and in sleep mode.

that might be a good idea it might not drain as fast!

Does it help if I leave the tablet and the dock disconnected when turned off?

[Q] dock battery meter?

is there a way to tell what is the battery level of the dock?
I am also very curious if there is a way to determine how much battery life is left in the dock.
Nope there isn't.

Not something Asus can do anything about either, Android isn't made to be compatible with battery docks. This is a completely new concept so yeah.

Yes and no. Assus could add an api so that the battery level could be read. I know that ANT+ hardware is not supported in android, but sony-ericsson have them in there X10 mini and provide access via an api. My guess is that assus will provide support for battery level in future updates. New concepts ask some time.
What happens when the keyboard battery fully depletes, does it just become unresponsive?
No keyboard can be dead gets power through tablet

Only way I know how is to plug it into the charger and look at the light pattern. The patterns are described in the manual. Also if it's not plugged in but drops below 10% the red light next to the charging plug will blink red (Asus calls it Orange in their manual).
I tend to disagree with everyone here.
my tablet has been in the dock for 2 days and the tablet was 100 going in and now its 97% i think my tablet might take into account the battery in the dock too. Theres no lighting bolt on the battery

sorry if I'm coming off as a douchebag but it's plain wrong. Asus themselves have said the battery meter does not take the dock into account.

The dock isn't charged. When not attached to anything the dock still drains power on it's own. Fully charge your dock (2~3 hours) and tablet seperately to make sure they're both full, then attach the dock to the tablet and see if the battery meter starts draining right away.

docks charged...no lights have ever come on on it. wish there was more documentation about this dock. i was on 98% at 9am this morning. 15 hours later im at 97%...dock has to have something to do with that

if no lights are on then it obviously isn't charged and the dock is running off tablet battery power.

sure....then im incredibly confused by this then....closing the lid when docked must practically turn everything off cause im still at 97% with 37 hours uptime.

Your tablet obviously is going to sleep properly and doesn't have any apps causing many wakelocks when the screen is off. What happens is it drains the dock's battery first then after that drains the tablets battery. That's straight from Asus. What you're seeing is an affect of that. They've also said they are working on optimizing the way Android handles this second battery so we'll be seeing strange things with the meter until then.

Dock Battery Issue

Hey guys,
I'm reading through the dock threads and I see a lot of issues with the battery, but I didn't see anyone with the same problem as me. Maybe it's not a problem, but I figured I'd put it out there just to make sure.
Sometimes my dock will read at 0% battery, then suddenly spike up to the proper battery percentage. It usually happens after it's asleep, then wakes up. Last night I had charged the dock to 100%, then unplugged and plugged into the tablet a short while later. It was reporting 0% and had a flashing orange light. I then charged it today and it held the charge, but still doing the strange 0% to "real" percent thing.
I have both a B60 dock and B60 tablet and I am using Prime 1.7 ROM.
Has anyone heard of this? Is my dock bad? I can still RMA it as it's brand new.
Thanks!
I did a test last night by fully charging the keyboard then plugging it into my tab at 17% battery. When I woke up, the dock had 3% and the tab had 76%. This seems pretty on par with what I'd expect. I just don't want to charge the tab and have it not hold a charge at all.
How do you even know how much your dock is charged?
I use a couple of the dual battery widgets (still haven't decided on one). I sent my dock in for repair on the drainage issue a couple weeks ago. Since getting it back I have noticed that when I wake the tablet up, it can take a long time (Sometimes up to ~5-10 minutes for the dock battery to show the correct voltage). I had upgraded to 3.2 while the dock was out for repair, so don't know if its something with the new dock hardware, or a 3.2 issue.
The other day had the dock reading 0 and even after an hour of use, never did show it had a charge. Thought I was screwed because I had read several threads that said if you ran the dock down to 0, they couldn't ever get it to charge again. Plugged it in overnight and let it set, fired it up the next morning and both were at 95+%.

When you click the notification bar, it says "Docking Connected" and then the dock battery percentage to the right. I'm assuming that is the dock battery percentage... I'm not sure if it's part of the rom, but I think I remember it being there when I was stock.

Thanks for chiming in. I'm thinking this might just be a software issue and not a dock issue then. I'll see how things go over the next few weeks.

8.6.5.13 firmware installed and still having dock\tablet battery issue.. . .

My build number is HTK75.US_epad-8.6.5.13-20110925, I have both a docking station and a tablet.
When I have the tablet plugged into the Dock, I still have the docking station drain issue. If I leave the screen turned off with the dockingstation plugged in, I get about 1 day of use before the battery is drained (This is with out using the tablet at all).
If I have them seperated and I do not use the tablet, the tablet alone will last for 3-4 days on standby (the screen off).
ASUS is recommending RMA, does anybody here have feedback before I send in my tablet and Dock?
Thanks in advance,
Brandon

Had the same issue. It is not a hardware issue, RMA won't help. I'm running revolution HD and the problem is fixed. I now drain about 2-3% in 8 hours in standby.
i have the same problem running Prime 2.0.4. Been debating calling support, but i'll give revolution a try tomorrow and see what happens.
Hard reset cured it for me.
I guess you already have tried this:
1. Click on <Apps> on the home screen
2. Click on <Settings>
3. Click on <Screen>
4. Make sure that <MobileDock Battery saving mode> is ticked
And after this make sure to turn off the screen with the power button, otherwise it may not go to deep sleep, it is definitely a software bug, which I'm not sure why they don't fix it (I have a B80, tablet+dock)

You need to send in the Dock to get ASUS to change the circuit board. The earlier docks are able to wake-up the tablet by pressing on any buttons on the keyboard. If you can do that with yours, then you need to RMA it for the issue to even be remotely fixed.
I've got battery saving mode enabled and pressing a key on my dock wont wake up the tablet, but when i put it to sleep , both batteries are completely drained within 48 hrs. Separate, they will both last all week.
if you guys are interested, i may point your attention to this thread (pages 22 and 23), where i have posted that i got my transformer back from repairs with successful results
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1287799
the revolution rom seems to be working great, but i'd love to be able to use prime and not have the battery drain. i'm wondering if it is a hardware issue, but revolution's clocking settings overcome that by reducing the cpu while its asleep, and prime doesnt do that by default.
I might try prime with some different setcpu profiles to see what happens..
from the points discussed I would say that although it might not be caused by a software issue, at least it should be fixable with software. It's very simple: IF (AND (any keyboard key pressed=TRUE, deep sleep mode=TRUE),IGNORE,...)
I'm having the same problem and it's pretty annoying. I also noticed that after the tablet turns off I have no access to the keyboard until I undock it and then dock it again.

I agree that there was a hardware issue with the Dock, I exchanged my dock for a newer model the first time that they had the sleep mode issue some time ago. Changing the dock fixed the sleep mode issue at that time. They broke the sleep mode again with the last firmware update, so I don't believe the fix is just to replace the dock, because I have the dreaded sleep mode issue AGAIN!
There seems to be a problem with the latest firmware that affects the handover between the AC adapter and the dock batteries. The transformer will not go into deep sleep mode if it has been connected to the charger (as determined by cpuspy) giving ongoing dock battery drain.
If I reboot the device after the charger is disconnected, then deep sleep mode works as intended and battery life is once again awesome. This may be due to an application conflict of some sort, but as yet I am unable to track down the offending app.

Does setting your screen brightness to AUTO make a difference? (vs. manual setting a level).

Doesn't seem to make a difference - my transformer is set on AUTO brightness by default anyway. It definitely seems to be related to the newer firmware - I had no problems with battery drain under the previous firmware so it is fairly unlikely to be a hardware issue.
Well, the other day I did a shed load of app updates and the battery has been draining over 5% an hour in standby mode since. CPU spy shows that it isn't deep sleeping. Looked at Advanced Task Manager and Maps was constantly restarting every time I stopped it. I've now force stopped Maps and the battery problem seems to have gone away. If it works I'll restart Maps and see what happens.
Well I bit the bullet, rooted my transformer and installed Prime. It's been almost 24 hours and the battery level has barely moved. Let's hope that it stays that way.
Well, after further testing, it wasn't Maps that was causing my battery drain problem but Samsung's own app, MyNet. I force stopped it (I've never used it) and everything seems to be okay.

this helped me.
every time my tablet is docked the battery drains like crazy and both units are dead after one full day and night even sitting idle.
i tried undocking the tablet and rebooting the tablet and leaving it idle and that worked and helped maintain battery life in the tablet. only lost 4% over night
but i still wanted to use my dock.
i charged the dock and tablet together and then after i unplugged the AC cord from the dock, i performed a reboot and then started up CPUSPY and closed the tablet clamshell.
woke up this moning and only lost 4% over night.
while im still jealous that my ipad2 will only lose 4% over a 4 day period staying idle, im still happier that i only lost 4% over night from dock and tablet together compared to being dead over day/night idle.
so to recap, if you have tablet docked and charging. remove the charger and then reboot your system and then your battery drain should be gone. if you dont reboot tablet and dock after removing AC power then your system will drain battery all day and never enter deep sleep.
thanks!

Charging SOD

I have the problem when I charge my infinity overnight, I will not be able to turn it back on again unless I perform a force restart by holding the power button for more than 10 seconds. Anyone experience with this issue or it's only me?
Nope, I don't get any of that sort of thing.
Feel for you though.
That feel when your transformer prime SOD's and you think you've hardbricked it.
I don't ever want to feel that feel again, espically with my tf700.
I went to see the batter status and it's dead after a few minutes of charging
I have a same problem
I charge tf700 by using asus certified ac adaptor from ac 220v electric source.
after overnight charging, sometimes it works properly, but sometimes it don't wake from the sleep
so I must reset tf700 by using clip.
In asus tf700 user's manual, asus recommends that user must turn tf700 off while overnight charging.
this recommendation implies that tf700 has a thermal fuse acting when overheating of battery module while
long time charging.
This power off phenomenon when battery module overheating occurs also when user use tf700 by laptop substitute
with plugging on ac adaptor
You Must Power OFF tf700 COMPLETELY while Charging for a long time.
I realized that this only occur in battery saving mode. It doesn't happen in balanced mode. And I don't think it's o overheating problem because it died a few minutes after charging. My infinity is even hotter while playing dead trigger lol
My heart sank once i anxiously open mine up put it on the charger, went to sleep, woke up turned it on to the splash screen... just to have to go black and hear a chime. I quickly googled everything i could an tried each reset method... now im anxiously watching the ASUS rma status screen...:crying:

[Q]

So a few days ago my device started to shut down at 15-20% battery. I use an battery app which makes me se how many % it is left on the battery and the original charge meter seems to be consistent with the app. It also doesnt let me start the device again unless I have a charger in. Another wierd thing is that i am not sure it is charging at all because it does not show in the icon sometimes... (I am writing this while making these observations )
I use the docking station mostly, could this mess things up when i only use the device itself?
I docked the device at 16% and after a few min of youtube it just crashed like before, not a regular shut down.
Is the battery busted because I use it constantly for the past 8 months? I mean I put it in sleep mode when I dont use it but I almost never shut it off.
Wierd, I think it stops charging the device if you leave it alone for a while. It shows it charges the docking station though. I would try other power outlets but somehow i feel it is connected to the first issue I had.

Sorry stammis but neither your topic nor your post makes much sense to me.
Your problem is with the tablet docked or undocked?????
It may be a battery calibration problem. Some users have solved this by letting the battery drain in sleep or standby for a day or two.
