As the title says. I received an HTC Desire S, which is stuck on the htc screen, from my friend. It won't boot and it seems like a brick.
I can although enter the bootloader with power button + volume down.
These are the following information:
SAGA PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT -0.98.0002
RADIO - 3805.06.02.03_M
eMMC - boot

I tried flashing a RUU, but that didn't work. I think the major problem is with the S being ON. Is there any way I can boot this device at all? It's kinda of a shame since it's basically in a good as new condition...
Thanks for all the help in advance!
What happened when you tried ruu? Error?
Device should still be covered by original warranty

The installation gets stuck at "Rebooting into bootloader".
I don't know about the warranty, but I'll tell him to return it if all else fails.
Are you sure that the necessary drivers are installed on the PC?
does the ruu give any errors? Or is that what you said above
If you enter the boot loader can you perform a full data reset? Any errors?
Swyped from my DesireS
Boot into bootloader, switch to fastboot mode (select FASTBOOT with volume keys and press Power), connect USB, see that you have correct drivers and the phone is recognized, run the RUU. It'll work.
Hi SlashSpeed,
propably you got the same problem like me. No solution for me so far:

Hi
Try S-OFFing your phone from revolutionary.io and flash one of the pre-rooted roms

This is not possible without adb or recovery?!
So here's my findings so far.
I tried running RUU from fastboot mode. No errors, installation gets stuck at "Rebooting into bootloader". I waited for over 2 hours and nothing happened. My PC recognizes the bootloader as "Android Bootloader interface" and fastboot as "My htc" in device manager.
I also tried running PG88IMG.zip with no luck. It gets stuck at [2] BOOTLOADER - Updating and nothing happens, even after hours.
The only think I have left for now, is the goldcard method it seems. I'll try it with my HTC G1 and report back.
Edit: Actually, I have no idea how to perform the goldcard method...some help would be much appreciated.

Actually, I asked him about that a couple of days ago and apparently, the device is not in warranty anymore. So unless I can fix it somehow, it's dead for good..
You need to unlock the device and S-off it before flashing a Custom Rom.
First follow this thread:
[GUIDE] How to S-OFF your 1.47.x ROM with Revolutionary
Then follow this thread:
[Info] After Revolutionary: install Clockworkmod, root & more
Or install 4ext and install 4Ext Recovery with the install button.
After your done, flash your desired rom. I would recommend Endymion Rom
If you want a stock rom let me know.
Hope this helped you, if not report back.

Wait, do I need to do those steps that are quoted or just with the windows batch script?
I have to do the quoted steps a-g with my HTC Dream, so I presume I'll have to use that device for the adb as well?
Sorry for this sort of questions, I have never done these things before.
Hi All,
I flashed TWRP and installed CleanROM. Now I need to send the phone to fix photo blurry issue. I did restore original telstra ROM.
How can I remove TWRP anh put original recovery image back?
I found the recovery image in TWRP backup folder named recovery.emmc.win. I ran following command and it was successful but when I reset factory the phone, it boot to TWRP and do from there
D:\HTC\Fastboot>Fastboot flash recovery recovery.emmc.win
sending 'recovery' (16383 KB)... OKAY [ 2.404s]
writing 'recovery'... OKAY [ 4.151s]
finished. total time: 6.556s

If I lock the boot loader, factory reset failed and boot to boot loader screen with Security warning.
Can someone here please help?
--------------------------------------------------
Edit: is that because the recovery image in backup is TWRP recovery image itself. The original one already is gone?
Thanks.
Post in q and a but run an ruu and your.phone will be back to stock except your bl will say relocked

best you can do is relock bootloader and run the ruu. in bootloader run "fastboot oem lock" then run the ruu right away.

DivineLord, I also want to revert to the original Telstra ROM. But when I access FASTBOOT the only 'lock' command I see is "SIMLOCK". Is this the option I need to activate to achieve the "fastboot oem lock"?
You hook up the phone to the computer and type that in a command prompt in fastboot like when you unlocked

TWRP Keeps Loading instead of OS!
Hey Guys
last night i decide to install ViperX ROM for my HTC One X (Tegra3) so i first Unlock my Bootloader (HTCDEV Unlock) successfully , download and install the "2.6.3.0 TWRP Recovery" , then Use Fastboot Flash Recovery TWRP.img command to flash my recovery ...
KaaaBooooooom ! Touch is Not Working !
then I download the Hasoon 2000's AIO HTC ONE X Toolkit and install the TWRP 2.4.0.0-JB it worked !
i go and wipe all the options except the External Storage ! , and then SideLoad the VIPERX ROM , and follow the installation Process , it installed successfully , but after restarting , it keeps Loading "TWRP 2.6.3.0" Recovery instead of the OS !
actually when i reboot to BootLoader and and then select RECOVERY , it Loads me the Working 2.4.0.0 JB Recovery .... but when i normally reboot my phone , it keeps loading the TWRP 2.6.3.0 recovery !
i am tired and i want to fix it , please any advises will be strongly appreciated !

There are two problems with this post.
1) You're in the wrong device forum, this is the HTC One XL forum.
2) What you're talking about isn't relevant to the thread you've posted in.
You need to head over to the HTC One X forum and ask there, we simply don't have experience with your device here.

Hello!
After some time using very popular custom ROM, I decided to go back to stock ROM.
So, I downloaded All in One Kit for HTC One S - from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1604677
Then I went to FastBoot mode on my HTC, launched this kit and chose - relock bootloader.
It now says on my phone:
*** TAMPERED ***
*** RELOCKED ***
*** Security Warning ***
Then I downloaded stock RUU_Ville_Europe for my HTC (I bought it in Holland, sim free) and launched RUU_Ville_Europe.exe file.
But then I got the following message - 132 Error.
And nothing works.
Please help me!!!
I really need my phone.
Before all this I did Full Backup via Titanium Backup, but factory reset did not help...

I had the same problem before, just boot back into fast boot with your phone keys as in vol - down and power and unlock your bootloader with the all on one kit and relock it again. then you need to run the RUU with the phone still in fast boot.

Why would you think that? A simple look at the developer forums, you'll notice every thread here has a download link to either a ROM or a MOD.
So by saying you thought it was appropriate to ask in a forum that isn't the appropriate one shows your intelligence.
Read the rules!!!! If you can read other people's answers to your question, then you easily read the rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NOTE : always do a backup and a nandroid backup before trying any of these.
OTA update:
A) ROM is stock, bootloader unlocked, stock recovery and not rooted.
- just run the OTA update, there is no need to relock the bootloader
B) ROM is stock, bootloader unlocked, CWM recovery and not rooted.
- flash the stock recovery that comes with your RUU, extract the RUU for the stock recovery.
* boot to bootloader
* fastboot flash recovery recovery_signed.img
* fastboot reboot-bootloader
* fastboot erase cache
* fastboot reboot
- run the OTA update
C) ROM is stock, bootloader unlocked, stock recovery and rooted
- download OTA Rootkeeper from Play Store
- run the OTA Rootkeeper and click protect root
- run the OTA update, there is no need to relock bootloader
- Once done, run OTA Rootkeeper and click restore root
D) ROM is stock, bootloader unlocked, CWM recovery and rooted
- download OTA Rootkeeper from Play Store
- run the OTA Rootkeeper and click protect root
- no need to relock bootloader
- boot to bootloader and fastboot flash the stock recovery
- run the OTA update
- Once done, run OTA Rootkeeper and click restore root
E) ROM is custom, bootloader unlocked, CWM recovery and rooted and you have a stock nandroid backup
- flash the stock boot.img if after nandroid restore, you have a bootloop
- flash the stock recovery.img
- relock the bootloader - fastboot oem lock
- boot your device and run the OTA update
F) ROM is custom, bootloader unlocked, CWM recovery and rooted and you don't have a stock nandroid backup
- if you dont have the stock nandroid backup, you need to run RUU
- before you can run the RUU you need to:
* flash the stock recovery.img
* flash the stock boot.img (maybe no need)
* relock the bootloader - fastboot oem lock
* run RUU
- run device setup
- run the OTA update
Flashing RUU to revert to stock or to update your One V after you have a custom ROM installed.
- you must have the correct RUU for your device.
- if you are not sure, download CID Getter from Play Store and run it, it will show your CID.
- with your CID, you may be able to find a correct RUU for your device
then (even though some people may not agree with this, but this will bring no harm and it is noob-proof) do this:
1- flash a stock recovery.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery_signed.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot erase cache
2- flash a stock boot.img
fastboot flash boot boot_signed.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot erase cache
3- re-lock bootloader
fastboot oem lock
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot erase cache
4- flash RUU
Note : for people with ERROR 155 UNKNOWN ERROR they need to go into HBOOT and select FASTBOOT and run the RUU to revert to stock (thanks Lloir)

Place it in the data folder of the all in one tool kit and you can then do it with the toolkit. Or you can boot into bootloader and run fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Thanks. But I relocked bootloader and when I run RUU - it says - error 132... It seems that I need stock recovery img - but I do not know where to find it...

Is your bootloader locked or unlocked?
S-ON or S-OFF?
Before we continue, I will advise you that the fact you need me to make out a step by step guide for you means you should remain stock. Please do not take this advice lightly. I am very serious and I am not trying to insult you or make myself seem superior to you or keep the XDA community exclusive (all of which I've been accused of when offering this advice). You should really read and understand before you do something like this because when something goes wrong, and something WILL go wrong, there's no guaranty anyone will be around to help you.
If you want to continue, just answer those two questions above. I'll help you but just remember, I warned you

I'll help you but just remember, I warned you

bootloader is relocked
as for S-ON or S-OFF, I don't understand. How do I check?
I've been trying to read and understand all this, but I have a feeling I've been reading wrong threads. If there's any links for a complete understanding of all this, that'd be nice.

S-On or S-oFF will be in your bootloader screen.
SInce you're relocked you'll have to unlock the bootloader again first. the unlock_code.bin should work again if you still have the one you got when you first unlocked the bootloader. Do you still have the unlock_code.bin?

Yes
So the first step is to go to htcdev.com and get a new unlock_code.bin so you can unlock the bootloader.
Htcdev.com has all the instructions to get the unlock_code.bin
Once you receive it you'll want to put the unlock_code.bin in your fastboot folder, boot your phone to bootloader/fastboot and do:
fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin
Then select unlock bootloader in your phones screen.
Then verify that it worked in bootloader. If it didn't (sometimes it doesn't work right away) press and hold power to simulate a battery pull, when the screen goes black after capacitive buttons blink a bunch of times, let go of power, press and hold volume down until the bootloader comes up and the try again. It should work that time.
Once the bootloader is unlocked post here and I'll guide you through the rest.

Yes

Got it. Successfully unlocked
Good. Next you'll want to download twrp 2.3.3.1 from goo.Im
Then check md5 to make sure the download is not corrupt. Google md5 checker if you need one.
Then put it in your fastboot folder. Boot to bootloader/fastboot
Fastboot flash recovery twrp2.3.3.1filename.img
Fastboot erase cache
Fastboot reboot bootloader
Select recovery from bootloader screen on your phone.
Mount usb storage in twrp with your phone connected to the pc.
Copy your Rom to your phone
Unmount your phone usb storage
Select wipe in twrp
Wipe cache, dalvik, system, factory reset
Go to install in twrp
Select your Rom.
Follow procedure on phone screen
Reboot phone when flash successful.
Because your hboot is under 1.14 that is all. If it was 1.14 or higher you would have to extract the boot.img from the Rom and fastboot flash boot boot.img
Also with s-on never ruu or ota to 3.18 or you will brick. Installing roms based on 3.18 is fine though.

I'm not sure which TWRP is correct to download. I searched up twrp 2.3.3.1 from goo.lm and got a list of options

I tried verifying with MD5 Check and it says the codes do not match.
Also, when I tried downloading from the link, I get
"We are currently experiencing difficulties with one or more of our distribution servers. Please hang tight for this to get resolved"

Thank you! I downloaded the file now. But what about the problem from MD5 Check?
I need help. so if anyone could help, that would be much appreciated. I had my desire s unlocked, but S-ON. HBOOT-2.00.0002. So i tried to downgrade it and get it S-OFF,to flash new roms. I don't pretty much know what i did, but i followed step "Modifying the version of your phone" from this thread: forum.xda-developers(dot)com/showthread.php?t=1318919 and step 3 from this one: mihaiush.wordpress(dot)com/2012/08/20/htc-desire-s-s-off-hboot-2-00-002/ all i did was downloading misc_version from the first one, pushed the codes in adb then i downloaded zergrush from the second one, followed by the codes. Then i added "fastboot oem lock". Now, on bootloader, it shows me ***RELOCKED*** and ***Security Warning***. Tried to downgrade, but my RUU detects 14.something for a version, instead of 1.27.405.6, as said in the first thread ("c. The RUU must detect your phone version as 1.27.405.6") so i didn't click on upgrade ROM. Now i can't even install twrp recovery to try to restore the backup i had.. Anyone knows what should i do? Shall i click update ROM when asked by RUU? I forgot to mention when i choose reboot or recovery on fastboot it just reboots into fastboot.
I unlocked the bootloader again and it works now! so this thread may be deleted.
