[Q] Steps to install CleanROM 6.5? - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I have recently restored my phone back to stock rom due to a soft-brick.
I need a step by step approach to help me install CleanROM 6.5 into my HTC One X (AT&T).
The CleanROM 6.5 thread is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1655011
The steps in the thread are too vague and general for me.
This is my phone's software information:
Android version: 4.0.3
HTC Sense version: 4.0
Software number: 1.85.502.3 710RD
HTC SDK API level: 4.11
HTC Extension version: HTC Extension_403_1_GA_4
More: Baseband, Kernel version, etc.
-I have CleanROM 6.5.zip downloaded
-I have my phone rooted using the approach from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1709424
-I have tried following the steps from threads in the Development section and I'm not entirely sure whether what to do next in my case
What are my next steps to installing CleanROM 6.5? Please provide step-by-step instructions as I don't want to mess up. Thanks!

Is your bootloader locked or unlocked?
S-ON or S-OFF?
Before we continue, I will advise you that the fact you need me to make out a step by step guide for you means you should remain stock. Please do not take this advice lightly. I am very serious and I am not trying to insult you or make myself seem superior to you or keep the XDA community exclusive (all of which I've been accused of when offering this advice). You should really read and understand before you do something like this because when something goes wrong, and something WILL go wrong, there's no guaranty anyone will be around to help you.
If you want to continue, just answer those two questions above. I'll help you but just remember, I warned you

bootloader is relocked
as for S-ON or S-OFF, I don't understand. How do I check?
I've been trying to read and understand all this, but I have a feeling I've been reading wrong threads. If there's any links for a complete understanding of all this, that'd be nice.

S-On or S-oFF will be in your bootloader screen.
SInce you're relocked you'll have to unlock the bootloader again first. the unlock_code.bin should work again if you still have the one you got when you first unlocked the bootloader. Do you still have the unlock_code.bin?

Ok.. is your CID still 11111111
if you don't know boot to bootloader/fastboot and do:
fastboot oem readcid
Or
fastboot getvar cid

Yes

So the first step is to go to htcdev.com and get a new unlock_code.bin so you can unlock the bootloader.
Htcdev.com has all the instructions to get the unlock_code.bin
Once you receive it you'll want to put the unlock_code.bin in your fastboot folder, boot your phone to bootloader/fastboot and do:
fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin
Then select unlock bootloader in your phones screen.
Then verify that it worked in bootloader. If it didn't (sometimes it doesn't work right away) press and hold power to simulate a battery pull, when the screen goes black after capacitive buttons blink a bunch of times, let go of power, press and hold volume down until the bootloader comes up and the try again. It should work that time.
Once the bootloader is unlocked post here and I'll guide you through the rest.

Got it. Successfully unlocked

Good. Next you'll want to download twrp 2.3.3.1 from goo.Im
Then check md5 to make sure the download is not corrupt. Google md5 checker if you need one.
Then put it in your fastboot folder. Boot to bootloader/fastboot
Fastboot flash recovery twrp2.3.3.1filename.img
Fastboot erase cache
Fastboot reboot bootloader
Select recovery from bootloader screen on your phone.
Mount usb storage in twrp with your phone connected to the pc.
Copy your Rom to your phone
Unmount your phone usb storage
Select wipe in twrp
Wipe cache, dalvik, system, factory reset
Go to install in twrp
Select your Rom.
Follow procedure on phone screen
Reboot phone when flash successful.
Because your hboot is under 1.14 that is all. If it was 1.14 or higher you would have to extract the boot.img from the Rom and fastboot flash boot boot.img
Also with s-on never ruu or ota to 3.18 or you will brick. Installing roms based on 3.18 is fine though.

I tried verifying with MD5 Check and it says the codes do not match.
Also, when I tried downloading from the link, I get

Alright not sure what that bootandroot file is, but I don't know if that's for this phone even. Anyways, you're already rooted so what have you tried? Did you try asking another rom or wiping data from recovery (NOT BOOTLOADER).

I don't mind putting on another rom but no luck I've tried clearing cache and I still get this same screen and I guess the only way to wipe data is from fastboot but then after doing this what would happen?

No, your phone is rooted. It has an unlocked bootloader. The problem with fastboot erase cache is it formats cache the wrong way. Just go into your custom recovery and format cache and you should be good.

did you flash the kernel separate since you're still s-on?
Download a ROM onto your pc. Download TWRP 2.6 recovery from here. Put it in your fastboot folder. Use the following fastboot commands:
fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.6.0.0-evita.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Go into recovery on phone, mount usb storage, copy a ROM from PC onto phone. Flash ROM from install menu. Reboot to bootloader. Extract boot.img from copy of ROM still on pc and put it in your fastboot folder, flash it using this command:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot reboot
Enjoy.
PS. Don't post your problems twice in different locations please.
PPS. Do some research so you actually know what you're doing before you attempt to do anything else to your phone. Don't get any information from anywhere except this forum on XDA, other sites do not distinguish very well between our phone and the Endeavoru.

Why did you relock the bootloader? That's the opposite of what you want to do. Stop trying random things. You need to unlock it again now, and follow the instructions I posted above.

[Q] Phone stuck in a boot loop, plus other problems

My phone, HTC Sensation XE, is S-ON, on default ROM, and has HBOOT 1.29.000. Needless to say, my phone is not rooted.
The phone is on a boot loop ever since I last took off the battery and placed it back. I sometimes get a message that my Android system is getting upgraded, terminating with an error "System UI has stopped working" before the phone restarts itself again.
I don't know if this is a hardware issue or software.
How do I get my phone to a normal state? I don't mind rooting the phone if I need to for the purpose of installing default/custom ROM. But I don't know if this would be possible because I only have access to boot screen at present.
Please suggest me suitable solutions. Thank you

How do I proceed further with this zip file, since I don't have an executable RUU file?

When I try and do SOFF using KGS utility, it restarts my phone because my phone is not HTC dev unlocked. (My phone's motherboard was replaced some time ago, and so I cannot unlock my phone.)
ganeshp's one click root requires SOFF. I can't SOFF using his technique because temp_root.bat doesn't work in bootloader screen.
I am in trouble, and don't look like getting out of it

@ganeshp's one click root doesn't require htc dev unlock (meaning no prequisite permanent root; the guide has steps for temproot).
You just need one boot.
Do this: get the boot.img of your current (stock rom) and type fastboot boot boot.img.

I know its a long shot, but you should try doing a factory-reset from the bootloader, just in case it works.
Otherwise run an RUU from the bootloader.
firstly Itsakash he can't S-OFF because the device must be booted to the OS
secondly Far_SighT the command is fastboot flash boot boot.img
thirdly as raz0rf1sh suggested factory reset is a good idea and
fourthly jiteshgawali can you post your bootloader details?
It really is great to see your input guys.
@Far_SighT: I have tried doing the temp_root method, but it doesn't work for me. I could successfully run temp_root.bat just once (luckily, even in boot loop), but next when I tried doing the Juopunutbear SOFF it missed detecting my phone (again, because of the bootloop)
I don''t know where I can get a boot.img file from; for what it's worth, I could only get an OTA zip file for my region/CID from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1764025
@raz0rf1sh: I have done factory reset several times from bootloader, doesn't help friend. I don't have an RUU for my region/CID, all I have is an OTA zip file for my phone from the link I have specified right above this. Can't seem to get an RUU for firmware base 3.33, and CID HTC__038.
@rzr86: Posting all the details I am aware of currently:
PYRAMID PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT - 1.29.0000

For stock rom go http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1923629.
Get the rom and extract boot.img.
Then use the earlier command I posted.
Yes I haven't seen Indian version ruu until now ..so ruu is out of question AFAIK
Now the factory reset over boot loader should help if you have software problems but as per your replies it didn't work it seems
Tried HTC Dev unlock ? Even if the motherboard is replaced its worth a try
If htcdev unlock failed
Then try to go to recovery first ..from boot loader and if you went to recovery properly let me know
The other solution I propose is try to do change the cid ..even on locked bootloader sometimes it works
Try these commands one by one
fastboot oem writecid HTC__001
Then
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Then check cid using this command
fastboot getvar cid
If cid changed that's a good sign

I said fastboot boot boot.im instead of fastboot flash boot booti.img as the previous one boots the rom with with the new image but doesn't attempt to write that to the boot partition. Hence it might get him a much needed boot to s-off.

Tried HTC Dev unlock ? Even if the motherboard is replaced its worth a try
If htcdev unlock failed
Then try to go to recovery first ..from boot loader and if you went to recovery properly let me know
The other solution I propose is try to do change the cid ..even on locked bootloader sometimes it works
Try these commands one by one
fastboot oem writecid HTC__001
Then
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Then check cid using this command
fastboot getvar cid
If cid changed that's a good sign

Thanks for responding Ganesh. HTC Dev Unlock never worked for me post change of motherboard, but thanks for the suggestion.
I am able to browse the recovery option from bootloader properly.
And it gives me a little satisfaction to let you know that I was able to change the CID to HTC__001 following your steps. Can you suggest what I should be doing next?

[Q] Follow-up: Rooting and S-OFF

So a while ago I made a few posts about my phone (I soft bricked it) then finally was able to root it with S-on. Then I couldn't get S-OFF so I reverted to stock. I tried rooting it and checking forums again but nothing works.
I don't know what I am doing wrong in the rooting process.
Here is what is written on my Hboot screen:
Code:

So can I even do anything to root it with S-OFF? Stock is so slow after using custom ROMS...
Thank you in advance!

I too found that very confusing. But if the stats you put up are current, you definitely need to unlock the bootloader before you can flash any Roms.

The thing is I know how to unlock my boot-loader, but it's getting the S-OFF that doesn't work. I have tried a few times and for some reason that I cannot identify I can't make it work!
I have been through many forum posts here but it has been all in vain up to now. I just don't want to unlock the bootloader if I have to revert back to stock after anyways.

I cannot obtain a superCID nor S-OFF with the methods on this website that i know of. I always get an error at the end about something with my phone. Then check superCID and it shows it clearly did not change...
You didn't answer either of the questions. You need root to get SuperCID, you need a custom recovery to get root, and you need an unlocked bootloader to have a custom recovery. If you want help here you need to answer the questions that people ask.

Sorry. Sorry.
I have unlocked my bootloader, I have flashed a custom recovery (TWERP), I rooted, I was able to flash roms but not able to get superCID.
I tried different roms for the xl but all would start to crash after a while, even the stable ones. I discovered the roms I like need S-OFF and since I always get an error message while obtaining the superCID, I cannot get S-OFF and therefore the roms I want.
So I reverted back to stock for the time being so I can use my phone while trying to find a solution.
Does that explain it better?

I dun goof somewhere. I finally found the file (it appeared out of nowhere), got super CID and then when I tried getting S-OFF from this page http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2155071 I got error 99 instead of 92. On top of that I got an error on 7-c.
I tried this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2155071&page=17
Ok folks thanks to c5satelite and other helpful folks at S OFF PARTY AND IRC we figured out how to fix this whole "error 99" shenanigans.
Step 1. Download the latest stockish ROM (I used Viper 3.2.3)
Step 2. Boot into bootloader and fastboot flash the kernel.. then reboot back into recovery
Step 3. Wipe /system and factory reset in TWRP
Step 4. Install rom in TWRP
Step 5. For *Viper Only* Don't wipe in Aroma, and uncheck reboot at the end.
Step 6. Reboot into bootloader from recovery (Don't boot into the ROM)
Step 7. Follow the instructions in the OP to a T ... read reread.. go get some coffee.. and try again.. hopefully you see Error 92 and not 99
This worked for me with ViperROM on hboot 2.14
Thank you to all the folks involved you guys are rockstars from Mars!

Now somewhere in this process, my phone no longer connects to the computer via usb. So I can't even see the sd card through roms or recovery... and now since i wiped system and did a factory reset I can't transfer files.
I tried pushing with adb, but adb says there is no device connected, even though I have it plugged in USB.
Yay for a soft brick!
Is there anything I can do now, or did I just screw myself over right before the finish line?
When you get error 99 you need to force a reboot to the bootloader by holding volume down and power buttons together, then start again (without the adb reboot bootloader command because you're already in bootloader).
Did you factory reset in bootloader? If so you've corrupted your sd card and need to format it by mounting it in TWRP and formatting in Windows.

I can go to Fastboot USB ( or AC )
She 's worst than a noob so phone is stock, up to date but non-root non-unlock, still S-ON and so on.
just once phone reboot and stay stuck...
From here i can navigate but after reboot i'm still here.
I tried :
factory reset and recovery (with rom renamed PL80DIAG but would be too easy...)
RUU but RUU asked for bootloader so stuck on "waiting for bootloader"
go to htc dev to unlock bootloader but after flash unlock token ( unlock token check successfully) but : Nothing happens and still writtten ***Locked*** then if I "fastboot oem unlock" it says failed :<remote : loading custom splash failed>
fastboot flash boot.img but nothing works since still S-on and locked bootloader (superCID is out too)
flash custom recovey or even fresh stock recovery but nothing worked for the same reasons...
Do you guys have any idea of something i could do?
Thanks for your answer and forgive my English I'm French
As long as you are ***LOCKED*** you can quiet do nothing.
To use our available RUU you must also be unlocked & S-Off.

I can get into Fastboot as well as bootloader, I CANNOT GET INTO RECOVERY. I have tried to restore with the respective RUU files from the All things HTC ONE SV forum. I have also tried to flash the recovery boot and radio img files through fastboot usb. NONE of this has worked for me. I really enjoyed this phone before I went and made it all FUBR. If there is anyway to get it to boot to any recovery or rom, i will much appreciate it. Thanks for all your help from previous posts as well as any future help I get from information posted here.
Related to your hboot, you should be able to flash any recoveries, but i usually recommend this one.
What command do you use to flash recovery and do you get an output from "fastboot devices"?

Thanks a million for the replies. I was able to lead the recovery and get into it (the most progress i have had in a year with this phone). With that being done. When I go into recovery I am unable to mount the internal storage. I am not too sure of the procedures I need to go through to get this thing functional again. I have been tinkering with my S3 for the last few months, but with KNOX on now I am looking to Jump ship completely from both verizon and samsung. Enough rambling, Like I said thanks for the help, any assistance in getting this thing to boot to a ROM would be much appreciated.
BTW
I used the fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
I have tried this before with no success. This time it worked.
I also flased the Radio and Boot img for ICS.
Thanks.

He can just use the Naked Driver for the adb driver. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2263822
Ok I DID have USB debugging enabled. After messing with the drivers and my Windows 8 computer, I have came to the conclusion that it is something with the drivers and their compatibility with Windows 8. Either way moonshine or rumnunner never worked for me in a windows 8 environment. I dual boot ubuntu 12.04 anyway, it saw my device just fine adb and fastboot. I ran moonshine and it went through all the testing stages, but was never able to completely run...so I still have no S-Off. Do I need to update Hboot or anything? Also am I able to load a custom rom on this device with S-ON? I have been looking but I do not see many out for this device at all, which is a shame because I feel as though it is very comparable to my GS3. It would be nice to see a nice AOSP ROM on this device. But all take any updates I can for the device, hopefully it will help with the issue I have will cell reception dropping all the time. Thanks
To answer some of your questions:
- you can't update hboot because you are not stock and not S-off
- there are indeed not much roms to flash, but you could do with S-on (and unlocked bootloader)
- if you would flash the Sense 5/Android 4.2.2 rom, you would have noizy sound, without the firmware files (which you need S-Off to flash)
Another way for getting S-off (which should work with your hboot), is facepalm.
But the part of changing CID to SuperCID is very risky, read carefully and only do, when you are sure you understand, what to do!!!

The CID doesn't show on your bootloader screen unless you have s-off. What are your bootloader details? What recovery do you have installed? You can check your CID with this fastboot command:

The fact is you don't actually need s-off to flash cyanogenmod. You only need s-off to run the 3.18 RUU which updates your firmware, which you don't need to do because your firmware is fine. This brings me back to the other question you didn't answer: what recovery do you have installed?

The CID doesn't show on your bootloader screen unless you have s-off. What are your bootloader details? What recovery do you have installed? You can check your CID with this fastboot command:
Code:
fastboot oem readcid

I used the command
CID: BS_US001
My recovery is TWRP v2.6.3.0
THis is the only version that is working for me, I tried clockworkmod, and higher or lower version for TWRP, but I cant mount USB storage through any of those except 2.6.3.0
Recovery version please.

You just need to extract the boot.img from the rom you are flashing, put it in your adb/fastboot folder and then after flashing the rom.
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Then you will be able to boot it.
I suggest getting S-OFF using rumrunner so you don't need to take this step anymore. will also protect you in case you need to RUU.

I know what phone you have. an evita. Says so in your bootloader
You need unofficial 2.6.3 from original android dev. if you want to flash cm as you need SE Linux support.
Any sense rom should work on official twrp 2.6.3
make sure you wipe system cache and dalvik cache prior to flashing.
This is what you should do to rule out every issue.
Download unofficial 2.6.3
Check the Md5 of your download
put it in your fastboot folder
fastboot erase cache
fastboot flash recovery unnoficialrecoveryfilename.img
select recovery in bootloader
wipe cache, dalvik, system in wipe, advanced wipe
then do a factory reset for safe measure
flash your rom
wipe cache and dalvik
reboot to bootloader
extract the boot.img from the rom put it in your fastboot folder
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot reboot
