Adobe Flash being blocked 8/15/12 - Motorola Atrix 2

http://www.androidcentral.com/adobe-begin-blocking-new-installs-flash-tomorrow. We knew it wasn't going to be supported any longer, and now you wont't even be able to get it in the Play Store. Back that puppy up!

Definitely back up the APK and keep it in a safe place.
Hopefully soon it will be irrelevant and HTML5 will supplant it entirely.

Actually, it states that it will remain on Google Play Store but will only be available for certain 'manufacturer certified' devices:

Nobody is shedding any tears, I guess.

Why should I buy an Android device if the main selling point over an iPhone 4/5 is no longer supported? I understand Modding, ROMs, etc, but seriously, look at this from a Joe Schmoe perspective. As much as I love our android devices as a whole, the iPhone definitely has a more polished UI experience.

Have you used ICS or Jelly Bean? I vastly prefer the UI of Android over every version of iOS I've used. iOS scrolls smoothly. That's a compliment I can give it.

certainly not worth digging up this debate again...
personally..i enjoy having a tweakable linux box in my pocket where i can upgrade the storage memory, pull out the battery in the event of a significant problem, and an interface i can customize beyond the standard.... not a closed piece of hardware with a cartoon-ish interface backed by one of the most selfish and greedy (yet seemingly brilliant to the sheep) marketing teams on the planet...regardless, Flash isn't even within the top 10 reasons of why I chose Android and didn't even remotely consider others....

As announced directly from Adobe, they will no longer support Flash Player to the latest version of the OS (4.1.X)
If not officially supported, that does not mean that Flash Player can not be installed on devices with Android Jelly Bean 4.1.
Here, in fact, a small guide to follow to install Adobe Flash Player 11.1.115.12:
1) Download the file. Apk of Flash Player:http://www.mediafire.com/?lqxd6qnr63kj2t1
Download the file flash_player version 11.1.102.59.apk:http://d-h.st/o1I
Dolphin Browser HD 8.5.1 APK (Supports Flash):http://d-h.st/3ZS
2) Copy your files to the SD card of your Android device. (Be it tablet or smartphone, it makes no difference)
3) Install it using any File Manager.
4) Start the Browser
5) Go into the Browser settings and uncheck the option of Flash Player (on demand or always on at your discretion)
6) Finally you have the latest version of Flash also Android!
Adobe Flash Player is not officially supported and therefore the speed of loading of Flash objects in HTML pages is not guaranteed at the highest levels. However, as tested, Flash Player behaves well with satisfactory results.

Just played a bit with both on a sprint sgs3, not enough to get a full opinion. When I bought my ATRIX, before my A2, Flash was the differentiating point between the ATRIX and iPhone 4. The other specs were very similar, and moto phones are well locked down as we know.

I wish they would add an option to see what your contacts have loaded as far as apps. There is so many out there it's hard to know what's good and what people are using.

Actually, with AT&T already giving the Vivid the ICS update, I'd say that this could be pretty realistic.
At least we know if it doesn't come soon, it's not AT&T, it's Samsung.
ICS has not been released for the Vivid. That is someone talking out of turn (a dedicated tester or volunteer tester). That realease would be all over Android Central and our website.

It gives you a notification saying you have an update available, if you want to install it or not, is your choice.
Sometimes you'll even get a text informing you that your phone has an update available.
Another question for the updates, is it only for carrier sold phones? I bought mine at the US but I'm at Israel and I still haven't received the 2.3.6 update.
Very good news, will open development of some nice ROM's. Maybe it will keep me from flashing once or twice a week.
I doubt it. We'll see though, hopefully they surprise.

To throw my two cents in, the fact that SGSII international is getting it soon and supposedly Vivid is getting it now is a good sign for us.
However, I really don't like TouchWiz's overlay of ICS. To me one of the main features of ICS was a revamped and slick look. TouchWiz 4 just kills that. So what do I, personally (and anyone who feels the same) have to look foward to with ICS?
This is coming from an Android noob btw, so if there was extra features besides the FaceUnlock *useless imo* and sleek UI please enlighten me.

The real benefit will be the Kernel getting into the hands of the Devs. In time, they will do many thing with it including a non-Touchwiz version ROM.

From what I understand ICS is completely redone. There are alot of new code and things done different from previous versions of Android. I can understand why nothing has really been released yet. I know there is a couple versions of ICS over in the development section but there are very few things that work.

XBMC really is designed for tv use currently there are 2 touch screen skins (made by me again) but they still suck on something as small as a phone you really need a tablet at least for it to work half decent.
I guess its a gimmick factor for now that you can actually run it. But don't judge it too harshly unless your using it the way its meant to be on a TV

Yeah I know its just I've invested a lot of my personal time into XBMC of the years, and I hate the thought of anyone dismissing it just because they try to run it on a device that its not currently meant for and get met with a less than stellar user experience :crying:
Its part of the reason why we didn't just ship out apk's or put it straight onto the "Play Store" because its still got a lot of development to go before it really a daily use app. And everyone would just grab and install all the pre-compiled ones without even reading any informational posts about it and complain that its crap when really the main reason the source code is out is so other developers can help us make it lots better for the day it hits the play store
Thats just the way XBMC rolls  develop in the open and encourage other people to help make it better

Adobe Flash for ICS Leak

Alright as we all know Adobe is dropping flash support for Android starting with 4.1 (aka. Jellybean). They are even going as far as pulling flash from the play store on August 15. They specifically say though they will support flash for 4.0.x devices (which should include us). The problem is though flash does not work! Or at least embedded flash video does not work. This is not just a problem with the ICS leak, after spending a couple of hours scouring forums I've found that pretty much every Moto device on ICS is having this problem (including the Razr, Razr Maxx, and Bionic). As am sure with a lot of you flash was a large selling point for Android over iOS. Even though HTML5 is emerging, it is still in its infancy stages, and not many websites support it; most websites are still using flash. So I am creating this thread as a "work thread" to get ideas and solutions out there to get flash working on our phones.

°°PROTEST°° NFL app won't run on rooted phones

As per the subject heading, the NFL's official app chose to not allow access to users with rooted devices.
It seems more and more app makers (from larger companies) are making this decision, and, obviously, it's lame... and of course they have the right to do this (so please don't argue that point) but it goes against the concept of Android's openness.
So, even if you have no interest in the NFL, I encourage all of you to download the app from the play store and review it at 1 STAR as a sign of protest. I've seen the app's rating go from 4.7 to 4.0 in the last couple days due to all the rooted users protesting the NFL's choice to do this.
Cheers

I just don't understand why they do it. Seems bizarre to alienate some of your viewers.
Done!

I bet there is a work around for this. Much like enabling video chat on hangouts for att devices. Now if someone could find it.

Yes. There is a work around. Xda-ers are good like that and somebody found one (though I don't know where the thread is off hand) just go vote the app one star

Will do. But from what I've read on The Verge, the update doesn't really serve any good purpose because its confused about its own utility and still scattered
Must be USA only I can't see it. Another reason to give it 1 star
