Hello everyone.
I know there have been many threads concerning this topic but there does not really seem to be any improvement. My question concretely is, is there anyone currently working on a root for the b80? Or is it impossible to hack the root key?
If there is someone working on the rooting, is there an estimated date available.
Just so you know, I did actually search many many many topics on this subject but nobody seems to be able to give something concrete.
Anyway, I hope someone has some solid answers
Sincerely,
Incapable
Actually, I wasn't able to root it and though to return it back before 14 days pass, so got the Samsung GT P7510 instead and rooted it in 2 minutes , got the HDMI adapter and getting the USB stick adapter soon. IT is better screen resolution, brighter and lighter. 2 days running (without charging-only one charge) only 10% (interrupted use with stand buy mode) of battery life used. The transformer , B80,will be hard to root, so be patient.
...and any breakthrough in development will certainly be revealed first within the eee pad transformer forums.

Ok, great, but i don't see any reason to replace it with a samsung, the resolution is actually equal to the transformer, cannot agree with the brightness. I can run it for 16 hours full operating and that is more than enough for me. Anyway to stay a little on topic. I know the b80 will be hard to root, that is exactly why i created the thread.

Most probably, but maybe someone had found something somewhere else. Since there has been no update in 2 months about this I thought it might be time to just ask once more.
Here is a comparison table, 7510 has better color depth and Screen Readability in Bright Light is better.
There is a table at displaymate.com/Tablet_ShootOut_1.htm#Recommendation_3
Have a look at it.

Agreed, our friend incapable is asking if there has been any news on rooting a B80 Transformer, s/he is not asking for advice/comparison for acquiring another tablet.
It is unfortunate there hasn't been any updates floating around or any indication that it is still being worked on even. Let's just hope that we'll see some news soon. I wonder if the TF Prime will have the same SBK and if it does that should actually benefit us because there will be a flurry of new Devs attempting to root it.

Indeed, my first guess will be that the TF Prime will indeed have the same bootloader since, as far as i have seen, did not actually change anything about the software at all. It seems to be they have only made hardware changes.
Let's just hope for the best.
I don't know if I can wait for that release...
I may have to resort to flashing an older version like B70. I think there is a way to go backwards.
Have had stock rom for long enough!
Which developers are working on this? Is anyone? I'd hate to think that everyone was standing around waiting on something that no one is working on
I have a locked transformer as well, and I'd like to contribute... who should i talk to?
Razorclaw v1 to root
hey guys, today i found new way to root asus transformer ( B70/80 ) . That's Razorclaw v1 in androidroot.mobi ( i'm new user and can't post link in message, plz google it )
It works well on my transformer but it needs firmware update ( 8.6.5.19 OTA update ) . i'm not expert about android and so if you interested, check the link for further information. good luck guys...
A little hard to root it.
Razorclaw
Razorclaw is available on the Android market. It is a simple, 1-click rootingt tool for the Asus Transformer. Installs SU and busybox. Confirmed working on my B80—WW
Thanks to phyokyaw for posting
I don't think it's on the market anymore, but here's a link
http://androidroot.mobi/2011/11/14/introducing-razorclaw-v1/
razorclaw was so easy, I cried.
Now on Prime, so fantastic
Is there a current way of doing this? Does the Asus tool do this? Any abd prompts?
I noticed that my tab has pretty bad screen leaks around the outside and want to return it. Thanks

As far as I know there is no way to relock. I read that the devs for the prime tried for a long time to figure it out and never did. Ive had quite a few light bleeders, and finally got a 32gb that has almost none.
And it doesn't matter if you could be able to relock because your serialnumber was send to Asus when you used the unlock tool. So i guess you're on the "unlock" list.

Might just try to return it at best buy, doubt they check it and Asus will just lock it again.
There is a post in the dev section. This project aims to figure it all out. Go here...

Come on! They're the Geek Squad.
Why can not I find anything about root, the Asus tablet me171? Is it really a tablet unrootable
please help
No one really bought the ME171. It wasn't released in many countries and it was outrageously overpriced for a device that wasn't that good or didn't offer anything too great to begin with. I'm not really sure what Asus was thinking when they released that device. Unfortunately, you're going to have a really hard time finding information about that decide.
Find it....i got it.asus me171 root
Finally did it. Quite easy and convenient:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:
I'm going to try it. And if it works leave it to the public Tomorrow

Let us know how it goes. There may be others in the same position as you who might want to know as well.
I'm ME171 user, and I think it's the best for my life style. Choose from
1. Dual core cpu. Not the best but still cool.
2. Telephone call With 3g.
3. 7" Best size for my phone.
4. memic Bluetooth. Help receive call.
5. HDMI Can use as desktop.
6. 1g ram.
7. Gorilla glass.
8. Simple pen with handle's pack, if u r a remembers man.
No flash light is the only problem I have.
Ps. Just my op.
sorry for my weak english.

Hello and sorry for the delay
Unfortunately, this tablet will satisfy me and I replaced it
With this method you can get to the root. But note that it is very unstable
First download viperMOD PrimeTime v4.1
fallow thishttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=23020884
run number 2
If proper steps are automatically performed
* Tablet will restart
If not reset this scrept is failure you had to manually take out protection
go to settings / applications /running and stop the asus sec and google services and push...,And quickly run number 2
after reset update your busy box and super user and install root keeper
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.projectvoodoo.otarootkeeper
I hope I could help:cyclops:

Enough that I could just get rid of
It was a bad tablet
I sold it 2 times already
A few days after the buyer came out to replace it
I see. Probably would have been interesting to have regardless.
Did think it was that easy.... had the tablet for 6 months and didn't bother unlocking or rooting cause it looked annoying, can't believe I didn't do it earlier now. I wouldn't say its a completely new tab experience, but I can say Im not thinking about getting s nexus 10 anymore. So if you feel your infinity isnt on par... unlock and root. It's worth it.

I couldn't agree more. Actually I was in the same position and state of mind... You know, all about "what about my warranty etc.".
By the end, I got pissed not using the TF700 just because it was laggy and not as expected. The basic thought was just that I bought a device for 700€, I just need to use it at it's utmost, or at least as I would like to use it.
I took the risk to root, on CM10.1 Nightly. Well, that was quite fast and now it's a new tablet. As Jojo said it definitively worth the switch to a custom rom.
For those who are afraid, as I was, please note that "custom rom" can no more be related to "unstable and testing". There is really reliables and stables release from highly qualified programmers (CM10,AOKP/AOSP, CROMI....).
Unless you only use the tablette to listen music without touching I really recommend to jump on a CRom.

Anyone who thinks that the nexus 10 is a good replacement for the infinity is nuts. I work in a tech store and have access to the nexus 10 and the ipad 4 (or ipad retina), the infinity dances circles around them and is way more productive. The infinity can replace laptops, unless you need high end software to edit videos, pictures, or data (stats software). The development on the infinity also rivals any other device out there. If you install CROMI you will understand, it has better support and updates than any other ROM out there. It also squashes them in terms of performance. At this point no software on my infinty is stock other than apps, and i couldnt be happier. Not many devices have a custom bootloader, kernel, governors, scheduler, ROM, theme, and UI mods that work to create a comprehensive and kickass system.
Agreed
I am with you, I only had my tablet for a month or two before not being able to stand it. But once I put CleanRom on it, it flies. Makes it worth it all the more, and those who have not done it yet, are missing out. However, before doing anything make sure you spend lots and lots of time looking up on how to do so!!!

I lasted 6 weeks and got pissed off with the constant native browser crashes..several sites that I frequent have Flash and only the native browser supports it properly. Didn't care about the warranty really, it is only for a year and it looks like I've got a decent device.
After I got over the "scared to break something", it was quite easy. Now just to keep up with the CROMI updates. It doesn't take long to patch at least.

This thread has it all Also, refer to Post 2 in that same thread for additional stuff.
I think by the time I gathered everything, read as much as possible, it took about 2 hours from start to finish.
There's also a youTube video in that thread. The software that he used was much easier in my opinion.

If you're having Flash issues, try Boat Browser. Flash works perfectly. It's nice to watch a CNN stream nice and smooth in Flash on this big screen.
Hi guys, I bought this tablet almost a year ago and now it's becoming more laggy every day so I thought I could unlock it just to flash a ROM and try to solve I/O problems. The only thing I'm worried about is the warranty which I wouldn't have if I unlocked the tablet and it broke. Finally my question is: 'Is it really worth it to unlock the Infinity?'
Yes definitely
Doesn't the manufacturer's warranty expire after 1 year?
If so, then unlocking it would be an option.
Alternatively, you could root it (while keeping it locked) & remove/disable functions you're not using in order to see if that helps (personally, I haven't noticed any lag or I/O issues on mine).

I live in Italy where the legal warranty is two years and my tablet is already rooted but I didn't manage to improve my tablet's performances.
As your manufacturer's warranty has passed anyway, I'd vote for unlocking and installing a custom ROM. You will not believe you could stand the performance out of the box afterwards.
It hasn't passed unfortunately...

It's a decision you'll have to make: Live with a locked tablet that you are dissapointed with each time you turn it on, or unlock and tremendously enjoy it each time you turn it on.
What type of person are you? Would you go for a family sedan with all the security bells and whistles or rather drive a 70's Aston Martin convertible with no seart belts?
I can guarantee you this tablet on Cromi-X will feel as if you bought a new device!
In the meantime you could implement elfaure's Browser2RAM script on your locked and rooted device. That will improve your browsing experience a lot, but do nothing for lag in multi-tasking and such. Look for his thread in the development section.

I'm afraid that my crash course Italian does not provide me with enough knowledge to understand what you're saying here. Or have you been using recreational drugs?
Do it. If it's lasted a year without showing any manufacturer flaws then it will be fine. The warranty only covers manufacturer defects anyway. Trust me I felt the same way you did, it's definitely worth it to unlock.

I have the same thinking as you, after 2 months i decided that I should unlock my tablet. TF700 is laggy and slow out from the box, it defeat the purpose of using this tablet. Once you unlock, you'll never ever want to go back.:good::cyclops: I recommend the Chromi-X rom and Max kernel, one of the best.
