[Q] Raspberry Pi: Best OS? - General Questions and Answers

Hi All,
I am buying a type-B Raspberry Pi unit soon, and would like to know what OS everyone thinks is the best to get started with?
Please, only answer if you have used or owned a Raspberry Pi unit before, as I need an informed answer.
The website advised me of the Raspbian Wheezy OS, but I want to know what the dev community thinks.
Cheers,
Deano

Wheezy does seem to be the best solution, but... they are currently porting ICS using a custom kernel should be ready in a couple of weeks at most. There doesn't seem to be much interest for the rspi on this forum though

Android into ACER/ETEN DX900

Hi, I want to ask, whether anybody knows, that is possible to load android to ACER/ETEN DX900, and if yes, where I can found ROM for it. thanks
Possible? Yes, it's possible.
Is there a ROM? Nope, no one has developed a ROM yet.
Is it easy? No. People have been working on a port for the Kaiser since Android was first released to beta. After all that time, and on as popular a device as the Kaiser, it's still not working fully. It's take easily as long to develop it for the DX900.
Hello!
Are there any news regarding Acer / Eten DX900 Porting? Was someone able to get Android working on DX900?
Acer Dx900 Windows mobile phone with android ROM ?
Same question here ? This Acer Dx900 Windows mobile phone is useless but it can accept 2 sim cards at the same time, so I'd like to make it less useless with Android
$$$ Donation for interested Developers
Also looking for Android ROM for ACER DX900. Maybe if those ACER DX900 owners can provide donations to the developers, it would most likely get done sooner than never. If we have enough number and contribute an amount of USD10 each, it would a substantial benefit and rewards to the time and effort of the developers

[Q] Making a windows mobile port for a tablet pc?

Hi fellow members of XDA!
This is a question I putting to the community (hope to receive more answers than my previous question.
I've been browsing around the web for the last few day in search of way to make my own tablet pc. I think I found some interesting things to get me going and I do have an old laptop that I think I could easily use for my adventure. And so, now that the Hardware part is (in theory) solved I've reach another problem. The OS part. I know android is open source, that most likely I would easily put linux running on the machine, but somehow I want to make it windows mobile capable. Call it a whim if you want.
After reading some stuff around this forum about rom cooking (and I'm no programmer) I have more questions than answers.
So my big question is: If a XDA Rom Cook had access to the device specs, could it build a windows mobile rom for that same device? What specs would he/her need?
Another idea of mine is: I have an old blue angel and a prophet stopped at home. Could I salvage parts from them to the tablet pc?
And here is another question: Where can I get the touch screens, casings and other tablet pc components? Does anyone here knows?
Thanks for reading. I'll start on this project soon and let you know how it goes.
Cheers

[Q] I need advice, please read, imporant! iMac related

Hi guys and gals I'm new to the forum.
I've recently decided I wanted to get into app development, I am still yet to learn Objective C and Java but I want to be making apps for both iOS as well as Android.
I am thinking of getting an iMac 27-inch: 3.4GHz is it completely worth it or are there other alternatives out there with a cheaper or similar price tag? Please I would like informative responses so do not post unless its helpful as it will save my time and yours
I'm assuming this might not be a straight forward answer but the reason I want to get an iMac is due to the wider screen size and clearer display and for using XCODE (eventually) but I want to develop for Android also.
Would you also recommend any programmes or software to use for someone starting out with programming and development? Ideally for starting out and then the more complicated programmes for experienced people.
Thank you.
Bump, could someone please answer me.

[Q] New hardware recommendations please?

Hello All,
So in the end it appears that I should get a new laptop. Will stick with Windows environment and Android Studio. But thought maybe I would ask here if anyone had a decent idea of what a good "non-budget" busting laptop would be? RAM wise, processsors, etc.
In the end I'll need an Android tablet that uses voice, but that part can wait while I learn the basics of Android programming. So if anyone has any thoughts they would like to through out, please feel free.
Thanks ahead, as always.

[Useless] Best smart phone for porting MaruOS? (And how to start)

Hi,
I am due to purchase new smartphone and interested in Maru OS. Most probably I am looking at devices from Xiaomi, Innjoo or Oppo (due to spec-to-cost ratio) depending how much friendly it is for porting Maru OS.
1) Can anyone advise which will be the best device for this purpose? I understand major problem will come due to non-availability / locked bootlooders, drivers and working kernel.
2) Also, I am not experienced in mobile development and not a pro/full-time programmer (but can learn as I have been using Gentoo and Arch Linux, plus studied programming during school days), if anyone experienced can help me in getting started, it will be a good start for me.
Thank you.
EDIT:
Marked 'Useless' ... thanks to everyone for not responding.
^bump
If no one is interested in responding to OP, can anyone point me to how to extract device drivers from stock ROM for use with custom ROM I intend to compile? [I mean use working ROM as a base then customize it for Maru OS adoption].
