I attempted to install a kernel, and flashed successfully but it will not boot, my phone just boots back into recovery. After doing a little more reading, I see that a version of cwm v6.0 or higher is required. I happen to be have 5.7 (I believe).
Is there a safe way to uninstall and re-install the newer version or a safe way to update?
If you flashed a kernel to recovery, you won't have cwm.

download EZ recovery. once open slide to recovery (at the top) then at the bottom right select 6.0.1.0, bottom left select recovery and then flash. once you see flassh succesful then hit reboot into recovery.
Done
Then I guess it wasn't successful.
I downloaded the kernel and moved to SD card. Installed busybox. Rebooted to recovery and flashed the kernel's zip from cwm. It installs, then reboots two times and boots back to recovery with a long error message at the bottom. The only way to boot the phone is to reinstall the rom.
I'm running synergy 1.7 and trying to install imo's kernel. I'm on cwm 5.8

Does the phone boot into the rom? Or does it boot straight to recovery?
Edit: Restore a nandroid if you can. Then use ez-Recovery to install cwm 6.0.1.0

Does not boot to rom, boots back to recovery. I have to re install the rom to be able to boot.
The only backup I have is from syenergy 1.3. I'll give the ez recovery a shot.

Yeah if restoring a nandroid puts you back into the rom, then use ez-Recovery. If not, you'll just have to Odin back to stock.

Download EZ recovery from the market. Then install CWM 6.0.1.0 from within the app, you MUST have that version installed because it supports kexec, which is what imoseyons kernel uses to be able to bootup, and have a custom kernel and recovery at the same time. After flashing the recovery boot into recovery and flash the kernel. Your phone will boot up 2-3 times every time you restart the phone, thats normal though

where to download CWM 6.0.1.0 for Galaxy S3 SCH-I535?
Can someone repost the CWM 6.0.1.0 for the Samsung Galaxy S3 SCH-I535? The link to the file in the forum showed that the file is removed. I just rooted my new S3 and need the CWM 6.0.1.0 to load with EZ recovery. My download of EZ Recovery only has version 5.8.xx

Could someone please advise on how to keep me from doing any further real damage to my phone?
Here's my story...
Tried to flash Mastamoon's 8/9 build of CM10.2 on my VZW Galaxy S3 from CleanRom7. Used Cwm recovery. It flashed fine but I realized as I was setting up the phone that I lost root. In a panic, I booted into recovery and tried to restore 2 of my CleanRom nandroids but I got an md5 mismatch on both. So then I was able to restore my original 4.0.4 nandroid I made directly after rooting my phone last year. But still no root.

Pls note the baseband version as I flashed invisiblek's firmware zip about a week ago while on CleanRom. I realize now that there was a procedure in Mastamoon's thread about what to do if root was lost but I didn't read it before trying to restore my nandroids.
My phone is functioning right now but I would greatly appreciate any help trying to reroot and get back to where I was. Can I try to flash 4.3 again and then follow the steps in mastamoon's op to achieve root again? Thanks in advance

Look in the CM10.2 thread for a superuser.zip file that you can flash in recovery. Once you boot up CM10.2 you need to go into the Developer Options and change Root Access to apps and ADB.
So is it safe to boot into recovery from where I am now and flash 10.2 again. Then download and flash the superuser zip file? Just not sure what order to do things. Also I know i have to go into developer settings and change root access to apps and adb there. I'm a bit of a noob and just wanna do things in the right order. Thanks for taking the time to help out.

With the phone off hold down home, volume up and power until you see the Samsung logo flash, it should then boot into recovery. You could change your recovery to TWRP through the Goo Manager app if you wanted. Do you have Recovery showing in your Power menu when you go to turn the phone off?

Yes, stock rom. I am on the first nandroid I made right after rooting before I started flashing custom roms. I should read up about odin-ing back to stock. But I think I'll take the ota and reroot. Would the firmware I flashed a couple of weeks ago cause any problem with an ota update? Guys, thanks for your time and advice.

Before I lost root, I was using cwm as my custom recovery. When I was finally able to restore this stock rom nandroid, I downloaded rom manager again and it shows cwm 6.0.3.1 as my current recovery. But I can't boot into it as I described earlier. I also tried to flash cwm again thru rom mgr but it gave me an error notice.

No it wouldn't, if you take the ota it'll rewrite your rom, firmware, kernel, and recovery and put everything on the same base. Then once you reroot everything will be on the vrbmf1 base and you should be good to go.
The reason nothing is able to flash recoveries is because you lost root permission. The only way for you to get it back is to reroot since you're unable to use SuperSU.

im assuming you have a xt925? where did you get a "17/10/2013" version for the 925?
i haven't seen any new versions, maybe i missed it.
The version doesn't matter because the problem is that you need to boot immediately into the custom recovery directly from boot loader the first time and disable the flash recovery script. The OS will overwrite the stock recovery every boot otherwise.
damn i missed that...knew that was stock and not an error, i fail lol

After you push/install the recovery you need to "reboot recovery" the first time, not reboot to system.
My comment is asking if you have the right recovery. I see the date on your recovery is new, I'm making sure you are not trying to flash a 926 recovery if you have a 925. You didn't say what model you have.

I see now you have a 925 as I suspected, my concern was that you have the right recovery also. I haven't seen any new version for the 925, maybe I missed it. Just make sure you have a 925 recovery or it may not work right or at all.
The edit date in your script for the recovery was yesterday that's why I asked.

where you have fastboot reboot. you have to make it reboot directly into recovery, if it boots to system the new recovery is gone.

After 15 seconds you will be inside the recovery. Xperia devices don't have a seperate recovery partition.

If you want CWM/TWRP, install a kernel with one of these intergrated
If you want to remove CWM/TWRP, install a kernel without one of these intergrated

No go
Just tried. Followed steps, installed ROM successfully. However when attempting to install gapps restart to recovery goes to android recovery not twrp. Cannot then mount the sdcard to install gapps. Will try via ADB sideload later when I get back from work. Either way, the TWRP recovery gone.

I presume the only way back if that doesnt work is go flash stock rom and re-root and reflash recovery again?

Reflash recovery with fastboot should work.
Did you boot the tablet and is the rom working?

You aren't doing anything wrong!
Twrp doesn't recornize the file system because it is a block device image.
Do a full wipe including system, flash the zip file.
Reboot.
Ignore the twrp error!

Do you have multirom installed?
If so don't inject multirom in the kernel!
Multirom doesn't work with marshmallow kernel

I do use multirom so I'll uninstall multirom then try because it injects multirom automatically it doesn't give me a choice I don't think.
