I am currently running Synergy 1.6 with the KindaCrapMods installed, and the Verizon Wireless carrier text has been changed to Samsung SCH-I535, and I'd like to get rid of it all together. However I'm lost as to how to change it.
Requires to mod the systemui.apk to get rid of it or change it. Its in the eri.XML file

Ninjamorph can't handle this as it needs decompiling & recompiling with apk tool, no?
Correct. If you (meaning anybody reading this) would like it removed or have a custom string in place of it, attach your SystemUI to a post for myself or another to quickly do it for you.

Hey guys,
Dunno if it was an F-up on my part, or if i got tricked with the last update, but i somehow uninstalled City Caller ID, the company thats getting sued and had to remove their software from the market place. therefore i cant re DL it. Does anyone have the APK file they can upload and link? I loved their caller id the best. sad to see em go.
+1..I have been looking for the Apk as well, I never got to try the actual App but i hear nothing but great things about it ...hope one comes to the surface..
Here is a page link to where you can dl it

Does this not work on Droid 2? Can't seem to get it to...
It should. Make sure you have unknown source s checked under applications checked.

Yeah, I can get it to install and run OK, but then I don't see that it does anything...I've tried all the different configuration settings, but still can never see where/if the city info text appears for the calls.
So all I have to do is just flash that apk on my sim card correct?
Is this like how the iphone shows the city that the number is calling from?
Is this working for you guys?

Yes its exactly like that.
I have the apk, but I recall it being a paid app and I thought we weren't supposed to be posting stuff like that
Sorry to be a debbie-downer...
nevermind, sorry
is there anyway to update the database for caller id?
Is it possible to change the Carrier Text (the carrier name on the lock screen, on top of the pulled down notification bar) to something else of my choosing?
Bump? I can't be the only person who wants this.

I THINK that it takes it from a SIN card, so probably not.
you can for a rooted phone. here is a thread explaining how to do it

Is there anyway the G2x could have all three icons, 2G, 3G, and 4G? Just curious.
Yea it already dose

Yeah, simply by changing out the png files. You could make the E for edge look like a pile of poop if you were inclined to do so.

Where are the png files located at so I can do that?

It's in the SystemUI.apk under \res\drawable-hdpi
Files are named stat_sys_data_fully_xxx_yy or stat_sys_data_connected_yy
Where xxx is either connected, in, inandout, etc etc
and yy is e, h, 1x, 3g, 4g, etc etc.
You do not have to decompile and recompile to edit the png files, just use winzip to pull the folder out and put your changes back in. You can then either put this in a rom and flash it, adb push it the /system/app (Which will cause an endless FC requiring reboot), or just use the VillainTheme system (Seek and ye shall find).
I have seen, for the Nexus for example, a way to remove/change the Verizon Wireless text next to the date in the notification pull down by pushing an edited spn-conf.xml to /system/etc.. but it did not work for the SGS3 it seems.
Anyone have another idea?
Taking it from your signature, it appears that you are already rooted. Since that is the case, it may be worthwhile flashing a custom ROM. You can take roms that are based off of the Stock TouchWiz firmware that came with the phone, such as SynergyROM or Bean's Custom Stock, to name a couple. If memory serves me correctly, those roms get rid of the carrier label. Then there are AOSP based roms, such as Cyanogenmod or AOKP. In AOKP, there is an option to change the carrier label, but you can only do it once.
Thanks.. but ROMS are not my thing, I like to do small custom tweaks, mods, hacks like this. I am sure it can be done outside of a full ROM, like the Nexus and many other phones can, it is just a matter of finding the right hack to do it. Heck, I know there is an app you can pay for that will do this, but there must be a manual hack.
You need to either edit the strings.xml or tw_notification_extended.xml

Search for an app named ccname. It should do what you are looking for

no can find. was removed from market and all links references I find in Google are old. even ones here are DOA. App was last updated well over a year ago.
I'm not sure if it's compatible with the S III, but look into the carrier name change app by conap (xda dev). I think the actual apk was called ccname or something. You just type in what you want in place of the carrier label and it'll cycle through airplane mode and voila.
I used it for my Droid Eris without any problems. I see no reason why it wouldn't work for the S III.

Thanks tried to find on Google & evertvlink is old as it looks like the app is abandon. I will try it but given the above posters I'd say its a no go.
Hey guys. Recently updated my US verizon s3 to kitkat ((NE1). Just rooted it successfully using towelroot. I found a site that showed how to modify two lines of the build.prop to get the S5 toggles on my S3. Changed to (ro.product.name=SM-N900S) and (ro.product.device=SM-N900S) and it did work. I attached a pic. I did notice that my 4G icon doesn't say LTE anymore. My question is, I know the S5 name is kltevzw and I'm wondering if I replace the sm-n900s with that if I'd get the same icon and toggles. I'm hesitant because I'm not sure if I'll get stuck on boot or something.
Has anyone tried this?
btw, modifying the build.prop is dangerous. It worked on my phone, but that doesn't mean it works on yours. If your phone gets messed up, its not my fault.
Thanks.
It works on my GSIII but I like the bigger toggles better. It's an age and eye thing .... lol

I wonder why that works. I don't know much about programming or build.prop mods, but does that mean that the code is built into the system? It just seems silly that two lines displaying product number changes the phone so much haha

Samsung often leaves dormant code in their software. They have often left some Note II dormant hooks of different kinds through some updates on our S3.

BTW, changing the build number to kltevzw did still give me the new toggles and recent tasks. It also brought the 4G LTE icon back. Love it!

build.prop settings (ro.product.name=kltevzw) and (ro.product.device=kltevzw)
Even the boot animation was a lil different! thanks for the mod
I did notice, the 4G icon doesn't go away when connected to wifi, clogging up the status bar when center clock is enabled.

That's because the S5 has the ability to connect to WiFi and 4G at the same time utilizing both at a faster speed. In most cases the carriers disabled that feature

It is usually caused by the Caller ID app. Debloat canid.apk and 4G icon should turn off when on WiFi.

Best free one out there is either es file Explorer or jrummys root browser free. With the 2nd one he has a thread on xda where you add something to the system folder and it makes it add free, just throwing it out there
