Hey guys,
Dunno if it was an F-up on my part, or if i got tricked with the last update, but i somehow uninstalled City Caller ID, the company thats getting sued and had to remove their software from the market place. therefore i cant re DL it. Does anyone have the APK file they can upload and link? I loved their caller id the best. sad to see em go.
+1..I have been looking for the Apk as well, I never got to try the actual App but i hear nothing but great things about it ...hope one comes to the surface..
Here is a page link to where you can dl it

Does this not work on Droid 2? Can't seem to get it to...
It should. Make sure you have unknown source s checked under applications checked.

Yeah, I can get it to install and run OK, but then I don't see that it does anything...I've tried all the different configuration settings, but still can never see where/if the city info text appears for the calls.
So all I have to do is just flash that apk on my sim card correct?
Is this like how the iphone shows the city that the number is calling from?
Is this working for you guys?

is there anyway to update the database for caller id?
I recently Rooted my phone(Huawei Ascend) and I put CM7 on it as well, my phone works fine, but I have this annoying text on my notification pulldown and my lockscreen that says "Roaming Indicator Off" (When I'm Clearly Not Roaming!) My Carrier Name has Disappeared!
I've viewed at least 15 different threads on XDA, Droid forums, android forums, and even the CyanogenMod Forums that were sort of related to my problem but with no success....I'm pretty technology savvy so any help that will point me in the right direction would be truly appreciated. I attached a couple of screenshots of what I have to see daily. Please Help if you know how to either edit the text or just remove it completely cause its annoying and frustrating
Also, I didn't post this question in the thread for my phone because there is no thread for the Huawei Ascend Sadly.

Under Mobile Network Settings the Only thing that I have checked off is "Data Enabled",
International Data Roaming, and National Data Roaming are unchecked.
Also, under the National Data Roaming Option there is a System Select Drop-down box that gives me the option to change the "CDMA" Roaming Mode, I have it currently set to "Home", the other two options are Affiliated Networks and Automatic.
Any Suggestions?
Try changing it to automatic, that should do the trick

Should I Try Switching On "National Data Roaming"? I'm Completely Lost with this one....

Yes, and if that doesn't work, try setting both roaming options on.

Ok, I am currently activated through MetroPCS. I was considering doing as you say, to switch both Roaming options On, but I just did a little research to see if MetroPCS charges for roaming and the article that I read said that MetroPCS Charges for Roaming.
Should I go ahead and switch the options to Roaming?

No, I am in a area with service, everything works fine. So I dont think that I would get charged for Roaming unless I was somewhere where I couldn't get service?

Maybe this is a lost cause?
I have considered attempting to access my phones files through my root and maybe tampering with the Text so that I could either get it to disappear or to say my name or something.....anything but "Roaming Indicator Off"
I turned my roaming settings on but still no success, maybe this is a lost cause?

Ok, so I tried the app that you directed me to but, sadly, still no success. But! I think I might be headed in the right direction! Well at least I think so.....
So I followed the link that you gave me, downloaded the app, nothing, read through the app's thread and tried alternative methods but nothing. But I found that some users who were experiencing difficulties found the solution to be to go into their "framework-res.apk" and to locate the "eri.xml" file and to simply delete it solves their problem and the app works perfectly. Should I try this? (Picture of File)
I also found after actually going into the "eri.xml" file that it says "Roaming Indicator" and "Roaming" in the file. Should I try to just go in and delete the text and replace it with my own?
I've already created a backup so Im just trying anything at this point :/
you should definitely try that.
you shouldnt be worried if you have a backup already since you can restore if anything messes up. but it shouldnt
Ok I tried going in and editing the text as well as just deleting the entire eri.XML file but I get a message saying I don't have the necessary permissions! What program should I be using to make changes to system files on my phone? I thought I could do it in astro manager
Sent from my Huawei Ascend using XDA Premium App
https://market.android.com/details?id=xcxin.filexpert
I tried viewing the file in the app you sent me but everytime I select it, it brings me to the application install screen because it's a .apk file. I then tried long pressing it and choosing the open with - file editor but it takes me to the encoding of the entire .apk file and it's all in some kind of Asian writing
When I get to the framework-res.apk file what should I be doing so that I can view the files within the application? I was able to view the files in the app through astro file manager but it would not let me make changes to the eri.XML
Sent from my Huawei Ascend using XDA Premium App
If you want to make changes to the file, you are going to have to decompile framework-res.apk and then edit the eri.xml. do you know how to decompile?
No I don't know how to decompile

Hello,
Every time I send a text that's 2 texts long (meaning more than 160 letters), it shows up as gibberish like:
"&(&@($&#( $#$#($(#JH$(#&(@N!(@*^(H"
I'm using Handcent app because it allows a text longer than 160 chr's to be split automatically into 2. Only problem is.. that's what the other person receives.
Any ideas?

Glad it's not just my crappy phone.
Oh well, it's been a nice ride. I'm switching to an Evo 3D Friday. =D
Same issue here. I'm past my 30 days though so going to try and find someone on craigslist to trade me after they decide they don't like their E3D!

I was using Handcent and had the same issue. I was sure that I had the messages split but when I went into the settings it was set to "don't split". I think when Handcent's app updated once it changed that setting. I changed it back to "Split by word & add counter" and it's worked ever since.
Handcent sending jibberish
I had the same issue with the smae phone and configuration. Not everyone who recieved the email got jibberish, and it seemed to be more carrier related than phone specific. Changing the split setting worked for me.
Same issue stock app

Its an issue with the way the cdma network reads texts sent that exceed 160 characters in one text. Phone configuration doesn't matter. Nor does root matter. It you're using a Sprint Nexus S and you send a text beyond 160 characters your phone will probably have this issue. For now you must use a third party text app and split your messages that exceed 160 characters.

Funny how developers on cm7 and xda got it fixed on the evo cm7 and google couldn't release It fixed
Sent from my Nexus S 4G
I have seen, for the Nexus for example, a way to remove/change the Verizon Wireless text next to the date in the notification pull down by pushing an edited spn-conf.xml to /system/etc.. but it did not work for the SGS3 it seems.
Anyone have another idea?
Taking it from your signature, it appears that you are already rooted. Since that is the case, it may be worthwhile flashing a custom ROM. You can take roms that are based off of the Stock TouchWiz firmware that came with the phone, such as SynergyROM or Bean's Custom Stock, to name a couple. If memory serves me correctly, those roms get rid of the carrier label. Then there are AOSP based roms, such as Cyanogenmod or AOKP. In AOKP, there is an option to change the carrier label, but you can only do it once.
Thanks.. but ROMS are not my thing, I like to do small custom tweaks, mods, hacks like this. I am sure it can be done outside of a full ROM, like the Nexus and many other phones can, it is just a matter of finding the right hack to do it. Heck, I know there is an app you can pay for that will do this, but there must be a manual hack.

no can find. was removed from market and all links references I find in Google are old. even ones here are DOA. App was last updated well over a year ago.
I'm not sure if it's compatible with the S III, but look into the carrier name change app by conap (xda dev). I think the actual apk was called ccname or something. You just type in what you want in place of the carrier label and it'll cycle through airplane mode and voila.
I used it for my Droid Eris without any problems. I see no reason why it wouldn't work for the S III.

Thanks tried to find on Google & evertvlink is old as it looks like the app is abandon. I will try it but given the above posters I'd say its a no go.
Hey guys. Recently updated my US verizon s3 to kitkat ((NE1). Just rooted it successfully using towelroot. I found a site that showed how to modify two lines of the build.prop to get the S5 toggles on my S3. Changed to (ro.product.name=SM-N900S) and (ro.product.device=SM-N900S) and it did work. I attached a pic. I did notice that my 4G icon doesn't say LTE anymore. My question is, I know the S5 name is kltevzw and I'm wondering if I replace the sm-n900s with that if I'd get the same icon and toggles. I'm hesitant because I'm not sure if I'll get stuck on boot or something.
Has anyone tried this?
btw, modifying the build.prop is dangerous. It worked on my phone, but that doesn't mean it works on yours. If your phone gets messed up, its not my fault.
Thanks.
It works on my GSIII but I like the bigger toggles better. It's an age and eye thing .... lol

I wonder why that works. I don't know much about programming or build.prop mods, but does that mean that the code is built into the system? It just seems silly that two lines displaying product number changes the phone so much haha

That's because the S5 has the ability to connect to WiFi and 4G at the same time utilizing both at a faster speed. In most cases the carriers disabled that feature
