I have seen, for the Nexus for example, a way to remove/change the Verizon Wireless text next to the date in the notification pull down by pushing an edited spn-conf.xml to /system/etc.. but it did not work for the SGS3 it seems.
Anyone have another idea?
Taking it from your signature, it appears that you are already rooted. Since that is the case, it may be worthwhile flashing a custom ROM. You can take roms that are based off of the Stock TouchWiz firmware that came with the phone, such as SynergyROM or Bean's Custom Stock, to name a couple. If memory serves me correctly, those roms get rid of the carrier label. Then there are AOSP based roms, such as Cyanogenmod or AOKP. In AOKP, there is an option to change the carrier label, but you can only do it once.
Thanks.. but ROMS are not my thing, I like to do small custom tweaks, mods, hacks like this. I am sure it can be done outside of a full ROM, like the Nexus and many other phones can, it is just a matter of finding the right hack to do it. Heck, I know there is an app you can pay for that will do this, but there must be a manual hack.
You need to either edit the strings.xml or tw_notification_extended.xml

no can find. was removed from market and all links references I find in Google are old. even ones here are DOA. App was last updated well over a year ago.
I'm not sure if it's compatible with the S III, but look into the carrier name change app by conap (xda dev). I think the actual apk was called ccname or something. You just type in what you want in place of the carrier label and it'll cycle through airplane mode and voila.
I used it for my Droid Eris without any problems. I see no reason why it wouldn't work for the S III.

[UPDATE]
There was some confusion caused with my posting. This app will not allow you to dial EPST codes from an AOSP ROM. As of right now that functionality doesn't work. I think its a good goal to work towards that, but much work is needed before that happens.
This app had 2 goals in mind during its inception. 1) allow 2.2 users to dial EPST codes. If you remember back to early releases of 2.2 the EPST system was botched. 2) to eventually allow any Sprint phone to dial EPST codes. This was a lofty goal but possibly feasible.
As of right now this app needs some work from serious devs because natively it doesn't do much.
Hope this helps.
[OG]
This is an app my brother and I worked on, but didn't get far with. Things came up stuff happens right? Specifically, HTC fixed their dialer code issue in 2.2 so this app was put on hold.
That said, I think there are two positives with this app. 1) it just makes dialing the codes easier, and we can update it to have a fancy screen where you pick the code and it dials.
2) We can use it to figure out how to get cross-ROM functionality. This is a maybe, but this app gives us the best shot.
More to come, for now you can download the app files here. Just follow the MIT license and all is well.
These files will need to be compiled, it is not an APK. Sorry for the confusion I caused. I can work on turning this into an APK if people want, but it wont do much good. The app is very much in its infancy.

not sure if this is the best place to ask this, but your app looks promising and seems related. does anyone know if the ## dialer codes are related to the modem AT commands? there seems to be some correlation between the two and i'm not sure if it's just coincidence or if the ## codes relate directly to the AT commands.
the reason i ask is that i was searching for info on the ##gpsclrx# fix and i found a pdf that lists some AT commands supported by qualcomm cdma chips, including $GPSCLRX. there's quite a few other ones that match up too. i haven't figured out how to send AT commands to my phone, but was hoping that it could be done through the dialer or a program like yours, and hopefully some of these commands could help troubleshoot some GPS issues that CM7 nightlies have.
Link is formatted wrong. Just remove the http:// in front of the https

The file is just a zip, extract it to get the APK and install like any other app from there. I'll post more directions in a minute.
A lot of improvements can be made to this app, so I'm hoping people step up.

No idea. I have another thread on ## Dialer codes and you could ask there, but I'm not sure if anyone has looked into this.
The point of this thread and the app I have listed here is to hopefully help AOSP based ROM users to be able to use the dialer codes.

We'll know as soon as webs05 puts up the flashable zip or apk. Based on the description, this is basically designed to provide AOSP with EPST-like menu access, so if it does indeed work, then it should work on CM.
ok so i know you can usually just use titanium backup to remove the respective lockscreen apk to get rid of the custom lock screen on android phones, that doesnt work on galaxy phones though. I HATEthe galaxy lockscreen. ive found some info on removing the samsung lockscreen from the captivate/vibrant/epic, but nothing on the 4G. Does anyone want to try to tackle it? Ive read somewhere that the same method wont work on the 4G.
There have been a few lockscreen threads but not just to remove the default lockscreen on the 4G.

I have been using the mms_cyan.apk
Found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=901216
And have been quite happy with it, with a couple exceptions. 1) It does not show the notification on my lock screen like my stock mms app does and 2) found out last night than anytime I go to send an audio or video file, the app FC's. If anyone could help me either figure out how to resolve these 2 issues or if it's too complex for someone who had little to no experience working w/ apks perhaps resolve it and tell me what had to be done so that I can learn from the experience I would be greatful.
I have included my stock mms.apk, the mms_cyan.apk, as well as my framework-res.apk in the zip file.
Thank you in advance.
Edit: I am using a LG-C800 on 2.3.4 if that matters

Maybe the mms.cyan is missing files from your stock mms.apk

what its mms.cyan can change skin?
It appears to be a modded stock mms.apk with the option of a white or black background and with the black background the names on the main conversation screen as well as 'new message' are colored cyan as well as the default contact image is modded, really like the app and wish I could get some help to mod it to work on my phone properly...
Sent from my LG-C800 using xda premium
I'm in about the same boat as you as far as skills go. If we can get dev attention to a ClorkworkMod recovery, then CyanogenMod (which I assume is where your preferred MMS comes from, judging by the name) opens up to us. The MyTouch Q is supposed to get an OTA update to ICS second quarter of this year, so it can definitely run the latest stuff-- even when bloated down with T-Mo apps and CarrierIQ. It's really a neat slider.
Yeah, after tweaking the phone some its pretty quick and love the fact its a slider... keep checking into the post hoping they will figure out cwm for the c800 but no such luck so far.
And judging from the original post where I found the mms_cyan, the OP has a lot of posts for HTC so thinking it was from one of those roms... but having no luck so far figuring out where to start so I can mod it to work fully on my phone.... not that I have any programming knowledge anyhow but... lol

Ok, so since I've been unable to figure this out on my own... I would gladly donate to whoever can figure this out so that I can have the Mms.apk that I want.

This is a widespread issue among thunderbolt users, but I haven't seen a thread here yet.
I haven't accepted the OTA update from earlier this week, but last night my phone booted with what I assume was a update. Now, any URL can only be directed to the Web browser, not an individual app (for example, Google play links link to the play website, not the app. Same with youtube links). There's not too much out there about it, but from what I've seen, this is due to a new patent lawsuit from apple directed at HTC. Apparently HTC laid down and just removed the function. This is terrible and pretty much ruins the phones functionality.
As of right now the only work around I've heard of is custom roms. Personally I don't have that option as this is a corporate phone. Has anyone heard anything or does anyone have any ideas for a work around? I imagine what would work would be a fake "browser" that you would set as the default and just would reroute to apps, but I certainly don't have the developing know-how to make such a thing.

With the HTC One series, there's a new "App Associations" menu that allows you to assign what apps will be used for various link types... is there no equivalent in the new OTA update for the Thunderbolt?
After the update there is that setting in the applications menu under settings

This is frustrating.
I updated to the software update and regret it to the fullest extent. Now NO videos of Youtube open in the app. This is a headache.
There is a new "apps association" menu in settings now, under Applications menu. But there is NO option to set YOUTUBE as a default like it used to be with ease.
Anybody here have a way around this??
What I found is using Opera Mini helps this by making it one less step to open videos in the app. But still miss the old direct way.
Help people!!

You can't. Apple patented the tech, all they will do is go after a new developer of such an app. Your best bet is to root, run titanium backup, and flash a custom rom that is based on an older Thunderbolt ROM if you want the feature back.

That's not exactly some HTC key/core feature. It's in every Android phone and part of the Android source itself. Even the Galaxy Nexus does it. It's not even a phone specific feature. PCs have done it for years using file://some-local-filesystem-point and using sockets to link apps to other apps. That's all Android does pretty much. Since everyone should be rooted on here (the thunderbolt is painful if you don't), it doesn't affect anyone.
Also I see no source links in your post. Means nothing if you can't link to something verifiable.

Hey guys. Recently updated my US verizon s3 to kitkat ((NE1). Just rooted it successfully using towelroot. I found a site that showed how to modify two lines of the build.prop to get the S5 toggles on my S3. Changed to (ro.product.name=SM-N900S) and (ro.product.device=SM-N900S) and it did work. I attached a pic. I did notice that my 4G icon doesn't say LTE anymore. My question is, I know the S5 name is kltevzw and I'm wondering if I replace the sm-n900s with that if I'd get the same icon and toggles. I'm hesitant because I'm not sure if I'll get stuck on boot or something.
Has anyone tried this?
btw, modifying the build.prop is dangerous. It worked on my phone, but that doesn't mean it works on yours. If your phone gets messed up, its not my fault.
Thanks.
It works on my GSIII but I like the bigger toggles better. It's an age and eye thing .... lol

I don't see a canid.apk. I see a Caller Name Id, but even gone, I still get a 4g icon on with wifi.

Won't be in app drawer. Have to remove from system/app. It is in all S3 stock roms including NE1.

Yea. Will see it with file browser. It is in the stock deodexed 4.1.2, 4.3 and 4.4.2 roms I have made and it will cause both signal meters to show.

Best free one out there is either es file Explorer or jrummys root browser free. With the 2nd one he has a thread on xda where you add something to the system folder and it makes it add free, just throwing it out there

It might. I'm not on kk or the new update but I tried it anyways and it didn't work, it might be specific to already being on kk
