I recently Rooted my phone(Huawei Ascend) and I put CM7 on it as well, my phone works fine, but I have this annoying text on my notification pulldown and my lockscreen that says "Roaming Indicator Off" (When I'm Clearly Not Roaming!) My Carrier Name has Disappeared!
I've viewed at least 15 different threads on XDA, Droid forums, android forums, and even the CyanogenMod Forums that were sort of related to my problem but with no success....I'm pretty technology savvy so any help that will point me in the right direction would be truly appreciated. I attached a couple of screenshots of what I have to see daily. Please Help if you know how to either edit the text or just remove it completely cause its annoying and frustrating
Also, I didn't post this question in the thread for my phone because there is no thread for the Huawei Ascend Sadly.

Under Mobile Network Settings the Only thing that I have checked off is "Data Enabled",
International Data Roaming, and National Data Roaming are unchecked.
Also, under the National Data Roaming Option there is a System Select Drop-down box that gives me the option to change the "CDMA" Roaming Mode, I have it currently set to "Home", the other two options are Affiliated Networks and Automatic.
Any Suggestions?
Try changing it to automatic, that should do the trick

Ok, I am currently activated through MetroPCS. I was considering doing as you say, to switch both Roaming options On, but I just did a little research to see if MetroPCS charges for roaming and the article that I read said that MetroPCS Charges for Roaming.
Should I go ahead and switch the options to Roaming?

I have considered attempting to access my phones files through my root and maybe tampering with the Text so that I could either get it to disappear or to say my name or something.....anything but "Roaming Indicator Off"
I turned my roaming settings on but still no success, maybe this is a lost cause?

Ok, so I tried the app that you directed me to but, sadly, still no success. But! I think I might be headed in the right direction! Well at least I think so.....
So I followed the link that you gave me, downloaded the app, nothing, read through the app's thread and tried alternative methods but nothing. But I found that some users who were experiencing difficulties found the solution to be to go into their "framework-res.apk" and to locate the "eri.xml" file and to simply delete it solves their problem and the app works perfectly. Should I try this? (Picture of File)
I also found after actually going into the "eri.xml" file that it says "Roaming Indicator" and "Roaming" in the file. Should I try to just go in and delete the text and replace it with my own?
I've already created a backup so Im just trying anything at this point :/
you should definitely try that.
you shouldnt be worried if you have a backup already since you can restore if anything messes up. but it shouldnt
Ok I tried going in and editing the text as well as just deleting the entire eri.XML file but I get a message saying I don't have the necessary permissions! What program should I be using to make changes to system files on my phone? I thought I could do it in astro manager
Sent from my Huawei Ascend using XDA Premium App
https://market.android.com/details?id=xcxin.filexpert
I tried viewing the file in the app you sent me but everytime I select it, it brings me to the application install screen because it's a .apk file. I then tried long pressing it and choosing the open with - file editor but it takes me to the encoding of the entire .apk file and it's all in some kind of Asian writing
When I get to the framework-res.apk file what should I be doing so that I can view the files within the application? I was able to view the files in the app through astro file manager but it would not let me make changes to the eri.XML
Sent from my Huawei Ascend using XDA Premium App
If you want to make changes to the file, you are going to have to decompile framework-res.apk and then edit the eri.xml. do you know how to decompile?
No I don't know how to decompile

My phone isn't rooted and I don't know how to flash the modem.
Is there anything simpler that can be done? I would prefer not to have to factory reset as the backup apps don't save app settings etc. on non-rooted phones.

A factory reset brought my data back, so i took the opportunity to install tweakstock. I guess it was a plus in the end.
I think we should all report the app for causing such damage to the phone with no warning whatsoever and no solution. It must suck to have to reset a stock phone.
Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA App
Expecting that I need to do a factory I bought MyBackup Pro and did a full backup but it seems that without root access the app settings are not saved. Since I didn't relish having to do rooting or factory reset I thought I would give the app developers a chance to do the right thing.
The response has been a series of generic emails pointing me at a new version of the app that do not fix my problem. I am guessing that it simply copies the (dysfunctional) APN it finds on first launch then its reset function simply writes this still dysfunctional setting back. Can't they just provide a simple appto write the correct Verizon APN?
I am not generally a ranting type but it is frustrating that there is no further recourse than just to advertise the serious bug and poor response to this forum. I posted a query also on Charge Forums, is there another good place to post a warning? Or am I just wasting my time?
Oh, and naturally my iPhone friends say "I told you so" just to rub salt in the wound!

I would have preferred it if they outright blacklisted the charge from downloading the app, as well as any phone it also breaks.

Dug this up from a different forum. Works for sure.
1) Install app called "any cut" on wifi, it allows you to create any shortcut.
2) In the app go to new shortcut > activities> APNs
3) Create shortcut to access APNs (I guess default APN manager) and restore settings. Voila!

Hi everybody,
We all know that ICS has made it a bit difficult to edit your APN(s). We also know that some of us have been having issues getting MMS to work when we install ICS on our Epics.
Luckily after a lot of research and a little tinkering I found a great fix that worked right away. I took the APN Settings from an Epic Touch 4g.
1. Within you Epic open your Voice Dialer App.
2. When prompted say "Open APNs".
3. Another pop up will appear, tap on the OPEN APNs message that pops up.
4. The next screen will show one single APN called Sprint tap on it.
5. On the next screen you will see the list of settings for the specific APN. Below are the list of settings that finally got my MMS working.
a. Username: Sprint
b. MMS Proxy: 68.28.31.7
c. MMS Port: 80
**ALL OTHER SETTINGS STAY THE SAME**
6. Once completed tap the menu button and tap save.
7. Reboot for good luck.
Steps 1-3 will also work for Epic owners trying to edit APN settings to use on another carrier.
Hope the info helps!

I believe it only applies to 3G since the APLs are only used as network identifiers by mobile devices.

The first three steps were from another post i found through a Google search (Dont ask, i unfortunately dont remember). Once i found out how to access the APL in ICS it was just of matter of finding the APL info for another Sprint phone (in this case a Galaxy II) and entering that info in my Epic's APL.
this was one of the main reasons i installed TPR, may have to switch back to ICS, if this fixes the MMS issues!
Very interesting. Now I need to receive an mms to test.
One thing I noticed was after following all steps, a lot of other information was populated in the Sprint settings when I went back to look.

Wanted to give out a BIG thanks for this fix
I installed CM9, RC1, and had issues sending MMS. Was unsure if it was the towers in San Diego, as I was just visiting,or the phone, but as I has some extra time, I went so far as to do a full wipe and reload of CM9 RC1. Still, over several days, was unable to get a MMS to send 9 out of 10 times, no matter what I tried, while plain text messages went right away.
I rebooted my phone, tried sending a MMS, and it stuck on sending. Gave it 15-20, and even rebooted. Still stuck at sending. I deleted the message, made this fix, rebooted, and tried to send a MMS again, and the MMS sent right away
huge thanks for this! works like magic.

I too can confirm that this works to solve the MMS issues on WIFI. However, be careful; when I rebooted after applying the fix, my phone tried resending all of my past MMS messages. It really bogged my phone down, and I had to delete them in order to stop it from happening.

So it's well known that after your first reboot you will lose your phone number and therefore lose your ability to send MMS. Here is how to solve it.
Update
http://review.cyanogenmod.com/#/c/21023/
When this update gets merged, you will be able to skip the part with phone info to get 4g back. I've tested and confirmed. I will be updating the post today with quicker steps. (and you can get it in invisiblek's newest build http://goo.im/devs/invisiblek/i535/r...tlies/testing/ (That's as of today, August 11th. Probably tomorrow you'll want to check http://goo.im/devs/invisiblek/i535/r...cial.nightlies )

Needed: Phone Info (Get it from the market). (Needed only if you're getting 3g instead of 4g when you do this)
1. Go into system settings->More...-> Mobile Networks -> CDMA Subscription. Change to NV.
2. Hit back button and then click airplane mode button on the menu. Wait for the connection disappear. Then uncheck airplane mode and wait for it to come back and give you an empty triangle for a connection
3. Go back to system settings->More...-> Mobile Networks -> CDMA Subscription. and change to RUIM. Repeat step 2 except you should actually have 3g or 4g now, depending on the build. If you have 3g then see below.
Using this method I can do the whole process in under a minute.
You may have lost data which is where phone info comes in. If you lost data:
1. Go to system settings->More...-> Mobile Networks. Change network mode to LTE/CDMA
2. exit out that menu and 3g should come back but either way go into phone info.
3. In phone info go to phone information then scroll down and change set preferred network type to either LTE/CDMA auto (PROL) or LTE/GSM/CDMA auto (PRL).
Data + MMS is now restored. Enjoy.
Addendum: For some people the reactivation screen comes on after they switch to NV. You can ignore it and hit the home button.
Can somebody confirm that is working, also thanks for this

anyway, question is this:
in the cm10 thread it was suggested by many that 3g totally sucked in cm10 and that if you weren't in a 4g area you'd have major issues with data connection on 3g networks. does this fix resolve that problem as well then?
i've been holding off on cm10 because of the concern over lack of 3g. i'm not in a 4g region so it's 3g or nothing for me at the moment. i'd love to give cm10 a whirl but don't want to lose data.
thanks for the info!

Can you explain this further. When I had Virgin Mobile they had many growing pains when they started selling the optimus v and with that several data outages. When data was out you couldnt ever get mms pictures. I got a couple free months of service because of that. I was told by sprints level three techs mms would not be transmitted. As in you would never get the message unless data was on.
If I am misreading what you are saying please ignore. But I am almost positive you still need data to get the mms. Not just to download but to receive it.
