Hello all,
For the past 2 months, I have been facing various problems with my VOX. First, the display was not working properly. Then, the spring between the two halves started sticking out. Next, suddenly, after I restarted the phone, I saw that the display was blank. I thought that there might be some problem in the cable connection between the two halves. On closer inspection, I saw that a plastic like cable(presumably, the connection between the two PCBs) had got cut. Also, due to an earlier mishap, my receive call button had broken.
I would like to know if my phone is salvageable, and if yes, at what cost.
Presumable repairs needed:
1: keypad replacement
2: possible display replacement
3: maybe the connector between the two halves needs to be replaced.
4: connector between the two halves needs to be replaced.
I would like to get a rough idea as to how much will it cost to effect these repairs from the authorized service centre and if it will be worth going through at all.
I like this phone for its versatility and do not want to replace it without giving it a benefit of doubt.
Hoping to hear from you all as soon as possible.
Akshay
The authorised service center will charge approx 1000 for serving as labour and fitting charges. and rates for genuine spares if u buy them from service centres are
keypad - Rs. 600
display - Rs. 3200
connector - dont know
but still, after so much expenditure, they still wont guarantee for it to work though!
so, dyu think its time for me to let go of the phone??
If yes, then i have been looking at a few models, what do you think about the new samsung marine or star 3G??
Or suggest me a phone below Rs.10k and having maximum features... touchscreen is optional
If you are really affectionate to your VOX, then i'll suggest you to buy another VOx because i would have done the same.
else you can look for more mobile phones at poorvika.com, indiagsm.com, compareindia.com or gsmarena.com. but do tell me the one you buy.
try ordering online at ebay. i ordered mine for 42 US dollars just arrived 2 weks ago. Its an orginal housing front and back and including front and back keyboard. Il look again for the buyer and post his name here. Too bad fpc keypad is not included. But the housing is original.
Just get the service manual from winmodaco for htc vox
ditch it....
I went to the service centre. the guy there sed that the whole thing will cost a minimum Rs.3000 upto 70% of the phone cost ie. Rs.7000.
I think its time for me to move on [sob][sob]...
ah well, the phone served me well during its time....
goodbye HTC....
will post my new phone selection when i get it.

I think after using vox u can never be satisfied with Gene.
Vox is far much better, specially for those who love to watch video and movies on their phones since the video quality in GENE is far more inferior than VOX. but one thing is for sure that GENE in cheaper than vox but price hardly matters if u want satisfaction.

no... It is much better than a home theatre if u have good subwoofers and a 'htc to 3.5 mm' jack.

Update
Sorry for reviving the thread, but I need your opinion on the topic again.
The service center guy told me that there was a complete hardware failure( too obvious, cos the torn cable between the two halves were clearly visible)
He said that it would take Rs.10k($200 approx) for complete repair. This mindblowing charge made me gulp and i took the cellphone back. Coming back to home, I saw that the guy was just citing the obvious as he had most definitely not at all opened the phone and tested it for any other faults. So, i took up matters in my own hands and opened my phone(finally). Well, I had nothing to lose and hence, went ahead. After opening the phone, I saw that one the springs in the sliding apparatus had loosened, and come in the way of the cable. The flimsy cable had gotten caught and hence, had got torn due to sliding of the two halves.
In the end, after complete disassembly, I saw that the only visibly damaged part was the cable between the two halves. I cannot see any reason to charge 10k for that. So i am planning to go to the repair center and show him the damaged part only and ask him to replace it. Searching the net, I found that the replacement part for the rigid flex board( I believe that's what it is) is $89( mebbe totally $100 approx after shipping charges, etc..).
So, do I go ahead and order the replacement from the net and reassemble the whole thing on my own, or do I not risk it?
I am gonna buy a new phone anyway, mostly the samsung marine. It looks good, albeit the small screen.
what i think is, you should post some pics to show us. someone might be know what wrong with your phone.
also we not know what exact problem hardware you are facing. if you have extra money why not to take a risk. same to me when im trying to replace a ribbon cable in my hermes. the shop said it will be cost 80usd/280myr. so i decide to not repair it and let it be...
now im happy with my vox and kaiser...
I am in a catch 22 situation. I have to take a photo of my damaged vox, but my vox is the only decent camera in my house. Neways, to give you a rough idea of what is broken, I will attempt to photoshop a stock image of the component.
The site from where i obtained the image( http://mobile.brando.com.uk ) was selling the same for $38+$3(shipping). I want to know if this site can be trusted and also, what are the chances for me to fix the vox at home without any further damage.
When I opened the phone, I saw that the connection was pretty delicate, So, I am a bit cautious of a home repair.
PS: here is the link of the product: http://mobile.brando.com/htc-s710-rigid-flex-board_p03852c1023d088.html
@RxenDrav: If the site is good, you too can check for your item there.
Plz help...
K ppl nebody hv ne idea what shud i do now? shud i risk 35$ or go for a new phone?
akshay, unfortunately im not profesional and dont have any experience in dissamble or repairing htc vox. but i'd done before on my hermes..
Someone here should help akshay fixing their vox...Anyone out there? we need help here!
also akshay you also can buy a used vox from your indian friend check here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=554896
ask him
hi akshay,
instead of wasting your Rs. 2000 (approx), you can buy a second hand vox for Rs. 3000 (approx) at gaffar market in new delhi. Since i saw many of them being sold there yesterday. You can get a 'never disassembled' phone instead of disassembling your phone and then reassembling your phone.
I have faced this many times, that each time my vox has been disassembled, everytime a new problem arises. So dont be so sure even after buying that abovementioned part. I think you can look for a used vox in pune also. u can easily find a cheap and gud one.

Hi Guys,
This weekend my phone fell out of my hands and now the glass display is broken, which sux a**! To repair it, it will cost around 150 euro. So I started thinking about buying a new phone.
Surely I'd want to buy the SGS 2 or the HTC Sensation, but the price of 500 euro just doesn't do it for me, I was already very happy with my HD2, so why spent so much money on a phone which will open my mail in 200 ms instat of 400 ms
But the LG Optimus 2x of 400 euro's is one i'd consider. But, this phone comes with Android 2.2 standart which I think/hope is the couse of all the bad tests on the internet. But if I look into the LG Optimus 2x forum here at xda, I see there are not very much roms available, and it looks like they are not jet completely stable. (or a i wrong?)
So, is it worth it to buy this phone, or should i look into a SGS/Desire HD/Desire S (for better battery usage) or just repair my HD2?
The 2x is a very well priced phone, and there is cm 7 for your froyo troubles.

samsung galaxy s2 also good ,I am using desire S2 iphone4 and orange v880
Whoever gave you that repair quote is really trying to rip you off. We have never charged more than 100USD for glass, 150 total for glass and lcd. I would say keep looking, youll probably find a better repair shop that charges you less to fix it.
HD2's are excellent phones, ive passed up a Nexus S 9020 and 2 iphone 4's in favor of my pocket laptop
hey everyone, i cracked my skyrocket's digitizer, it is still fully fuctional just looks like crap. i was wondering if i could get one for cheap, and at the same time i was wondering why they are so exspensive. when i had my old iphone 3gs the screen was $10. why is the screen for the skyrocket $185+. it seems rediculous to me. if you could give me advice or even point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated
its a brand new phone to the market, only a few weeks old, u can't expect the digitizer to be cheap, of course its going to cost that much

It's not a "few weeks old". Stop lying to the guy.
It is still fairly young though to have spare parts in massive quantity, making things a bit expensive.
Don't buy just the digitizer..in my experience Samsung LCD/digitizer combos are just that,a combo that doesn't like to come apart. Its possible but its a PITA.

So, has anybody been able to find the outer glass only? I can't order the $200 digitizer+lcd... makes no sense...
Okay, so I bought a sidekick 4g on ebay for $26. Only like a small portion of the touch screen worked. So I bought a touch screen digitizer on ebay for $19 and replaced it for myself. The thing is the buyer didn't list in the description that the IMEI was blocked, which means that I won't be able to register to any networks at all. So basically this was a media player to me. Then I listed it on ebay for $95, thinking nobody would buy it. But it turns out somebody did buy it which shocked me cause who would wanna buy a $96 media player? But, right now I'm kind of hesitant whether I should sell this or not, cause this is the only phone/media player I have, and I really seem to like this phone now, it's decent. I LOVE the keyboard. So my question to you is, Is this a good deal for me? And if there any other phones out there I can get for the price that I sold this phone for? MAybe around 100 bucks?
Eh, for a little more than 100 and some searching, you might be able to get your hands on a decent g2.
I returned a G2 to switch to the SK4G. There is no better phone on the market for me (read: no better keyboard). For a media-player though, I'd think touch-screen would be fine, so just get the fastest Android you can find. Ton's of sub $100 options on eBay.
Ugh. I can't find any good cheap phones. Anyone wanna thrw out any names?

I broke my screen and the digitizer is broken too because it doesnt respond to touch either. My gf broke her nexus7 1st gen and we bought a digitizer for it too off amazon and i had it almost back together but i pushed too hard and broke it. So im scared to spend the $100+ on a digitizer to break it or just buy a new one for $350. Im using my old N4 right now and it still runs great but i miss my N5. Im also thinking google might release a new phone this fall..whether its part of that silver program or another nexus. I dont know what to do.
I broke the screen and digitizer on my N4 then bought a 16gb N5, broke that screen then just bought a new N5 but this time a 32gb. But I think there both worth repairing.

Sent it to LG for repair. It'll cost you $160.
Hi,
Just wanted to let you know I recently replaced my screen+lcd on my Nexus 5.
I used this video : http://youtu.be/OPuCmfhzgbg
Although I have experience in replacing screens before by no means I would consider this hard for anyone who can follow the video. Watch it in it's entirety first.
Hardest part IMO is switching all the small pieces from the old screen/frame assembly to the new one.
Good Luck

Just wanted to update incase anyone comes across this in the future...I bout the screen and case on amazon for $105 or so and i followed the above video and now my nexus is as good as new again. Prob took me half hour or so. Easy job. Thanks again!
If you don't want it, just send it to me and I'll pay to have it fixed for myself. Its $100. That's not going to kill you. Make sure you buy it with the frame or it'll be a pain to fix.
