I broke my screen and the digitizer is broken too because it doesnt respond to touch either. My gf broke her nexus7 1st gen and we bought a digitizer for it too off amazon and i had it almost back together but i pushed too hard and broke it. So im scared to spend the $100+ on a digitizer to break it or just buy a new one for $350. Im using my old N4 right now and it still runs great but i miss my N5. Im also thinking google might release a new phone this fall..whether its part of that silver program or another nexus. I dont know what to do.
I broke the screen and digitizer on my N4 then bought a 16gb N5, broke that screen then just bought a new N5 but this time a 32gb. But I think there both worth repairing.

Sent it to LG for repair. It'll cost you $160.
Hi,
Just wanted to let you know I recently replaced my screen+lcd on my Nexus 5.
I used this video : http://youtu.be/OPuCmfhzgbg
Although I have experience in replacing screens before by no means I would consider this hard for anyone who can follow the video. Watch it in it's entirety first.
Hardest part IMO is switching all the small pieces from the old screen/frame assembly to the new one.
Good Luck

Just wanted to update incase anyone comes across this in the future...I bout the screen and case on amazon for $105 or so and i followed the above video and now my nexus is as good as new again. Prob took me half hour or so. Easy job. Thanks again!
If you don't want it, just send it to me and I'll pay to have it fixed for myself. Its $100. That's not going to kill you. Make sure you buy it with the frame or it'll be a pain to fix.

hey everyone, i cracked my skyrocket's digitizer, it is still fully fuctional just looks like crap. i was wondering if i could get one for cheap, and at the same time i was wondering why they are so exspensive. when i had my old iphone 3gs the screen was $10. why is the screen for the skyrocket $185+. it seems rediculous to me. if you could give me advice or even point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated
its a brand new phone to the market, only a few weeks old, u can't expect the digitizer to be cheap, of course its going to cost that much

It's not a "few weeks old". Stop lying to the guy.
It is still fairly young though to have spare parts in massive quantity, making things a bit expensive.
Don't buy just the digitizer..in my experience Samsung LCD/digitizer combos are just that,a combo that doesn't like to come apart. Its possible but its a PITA.

So, has anybody been able to find the outer glass only? I can't order the $200 digitizer+lcd... makes no sense...
About to replace my LCD and digitizer after an accident that has left my phone useless
I found a guide online and the items needed.
any heads up or pointers I should know about before doing this?
I hope you have insurance... First time I tried to open something electronic up, I cracked the screen! (ipod) be careful man
Sorry to hear man, but before you do anything you aren't really comfortable with I would suggest looking at some local cell phone repair shops. My brother cracked his LG G2x and the price for the digitizer was abour $75. We searched on yelp.com and called around and found a great shop that would repair it for $95 within two hours. Some places were charging well over $100 and would take at least 5 days to repair.
In the end though my brother was extremely happy with the experience and once he got his phone fixed he flashed a new ICS rom and it was literally a brand new phone! Good luck though my friend.
I cannot stress it enough, get an HTC digitizer! I bought a $30 one off of amazon and it gave up after a month. Get a cell phone tool kit and plenty of the two sided tape, just in case the screen needs to be redone. It's not hard to do, it just requires some time and a little patience. You'll do fine.

It's not that I don't feel comfortable with it, just never attempted it. I've done small electronics repair before though so i'm sure this will be fine.
Also thanks,
I'll let you guys know how it goes.
I'm replacing my wife's digitizer soon but I got a cheap one off eBay. Hopefully it doesn't have issues. It comes with a kit including the tools needed. Supposedly.
phone wont work after replacing the screen.
any ideas y it wont work,
The phone won't boot up at all? or is the touch screen not working?
Make sure all the ribbon cables are properly connected and are not broken. If not, you might have gotten a defective screen replacement.
RE:
Hi,
I replaced my digitizer.
To anybody who will do this in future, when you put the new digitizer in place, make sure that no dust or other things get under the glass.
Basically I just want to say to you guys that be careful with this device...
I fell some dvd cases onto the screen and bam; now the screen is unusable.
I bet the digitizer has cracked, would it be as easy as replacing digitizer and screen(although it would cost over 100€)?
I think I will be able to get compensation from my home insurance. (I think it´s going to be at less than 300€)
So I might as well buy a new device due to maybe having to send my tf300 to the insurance company.
What devices do you recommend?
Thanks for reading...
Yeah, Yesterday I kept my tf300t on my side table, while I was sleeping, by mistake I just pushed it and went on the floor but luckily, nothing happened to the screen, everything looks to be fine.
I would recommend nexus 7 for 7 inch tablet. Nexus 10 for 10inch.
How about the repair of the device? Would it be worth it?
What would it cost?
Where to buy new screen?

Hello everyone.
Just bought a Nexus 5 off somebody on craigslist, one big issue. Broken digitizer (I did know this when I bought it). Glass itself is mint, not even a scratch. However, the digitizer is all kinds of f***ed up, and the touch does not work. Phone itself works fine, I can confirm.
Has anybody sent their Nexus 5 in to LG recently for screen repair? If so how much was it? It would be $10 to send it in and either get it fixed or not, so I'm wary about sending it in without knowing a price. Anybody know? I'm guessing $100-$150 area, friend could do it for me with just the parts but obviously I'd prefer LG to do it. Just wondering.
Thanks!

Call a service center for an estimate, but i guess 100-150 USD will not be sufficient for the part plus assembly.
Do lg instead. I bought a screen from ebay and the screen didn't even work correctly. It didn't compared to the original screen. It cost me 150 for that third party screen replacement. I heard that's the price for an OFFICIAL screen from lg as well. That's what I'm planning on doing next.

idk, I've heard it's $146 some places, $100 others. They don't give out estimates, it has to be sent in (odd).

As stated above make sure they`re talking about a original LG screen and not some cheap Chinese knockoff.
I replaced the screen my self ..It cost me 135 on eBay. What is nice is that the screen comes with the housing and buttons and pretty much all you do is drop the pieces into the new housing. Look up a few tutorials to see how its done. Also bought a few tools so all in all it was $150.

Hi guys, a week ago my beloved Nexus 5 fell on the ground and its screen cracked. Display works as a charm but the glass is cracked. I've done some research and it seems that i will have to replace whole display since it's very hard to separate only the glass.
Does anyone know where should I search for a replacement screen, and will that replacement be just as good as the one i had on my Nexus. I would like to buy the original one from the LG so if anyone could give me some guidelines, that would be great!
Tnx

Unfortunately we don't know much about you, but if you're lucky enough to be in the US and bought your Nexus from play, Google will swap it out free of charge on a one-time deal.
No, I bought it Croatia. Too bad.
I was hoping if someone could give me a few links where could i buy the screen that is the same quality as my old one.

I also have a nexus 5 with a cracked screen.
I would like to buy a new screen on ebay, but as FraneSare said you can not know which item is good. I would like to have the same quality screen as original. Or buy orginal one, if possible.
FraneSare, did you replace your screen? Where did you bought it and how much did it cost?

I did. It would cost me 140 EUR at official LG service in my country. That is almost a half of the price of the phone. My plan is to get a good screen for 50 - 80 EUR and fix it myself.
It costs so much because the glass, touch sensor & screen are sold as a single unit. I'm in the same situation since spring and I haven't found any part online that would cost far less than what the LG service quoted me.
I'm gonna take a look and see if the prices have dropped since then.
