Hello guys, this is my first post/thread in this forum, I've search all around and I didn't find the answer so far. So, I bought a HTC Sensation used with a Android Revolution HD 6.7.1 on it already and I want to update, I manage to find that my S is off and the step where I'm stucked in is where it asks to "2. Copy the PG58IMG file into the Root folder of your SD card (The main Folder of your Memory Card)" but my microsd card doesnt how the folder. Do I need to create it or with the format it should create? I've formated already and got the same problem. By the way, since I'm just upgrading the version of my Android Revolution HD Rom there's an easier way to flash it? If you know where is the answer to my problem can you please link it and give me some tips please?
Kind Regards,
Pedro Martins
Since it already has ARHD 6.7.1 on it, the previous owner had to install it on there in the first place in some way. Therefore, you must already have a custom recovery installed.
All you need to do is download the 6.7.2 release to your SD card, and issue the command 'reboot recovery' from a terminal emulator app. From there just install the .zip file.
LMK if you need more help than that
First off all, thank you very much I downloaded the folder from step 4 in this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300 but I'm not sure if that is the terminal app that you were talking about, as you can see I'm even worst than a noob and starting with a phone already rooted is not the best thing I guess since I don't know how to do that. I don't know if doing the step 4 will be just enough or if I need to do anything else :/
Kind Regards,
Pedro Martins
The step 4 is writing SuperCID which gives you the ability to flash any ROM to your phone, but its optional. Since you already have ARHD 6.7.1 you should be able to update ARHD easily without problems. This guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1472298 explains and is pretty good if you haven't found it yet

I just wanted to delete my last post but I can't, don't know why. From the link that you gave to me can you say the number of the steps that I need to do please? I'm sad at the moment and a bit frustrated because it says so many and diferent things and I'm totally confused :/

I'll lay it out in a simple fashion:
1) Download ARHD 6.7.2 from here (WARNING: 400+MB)
2) Get into recovery (Power off, pull battery, reinsert, hold VOL DOWN and POWER, then select RECOVERY)
3) Flash zip

Hi and thanks for your time and help I've flashed to 6.7.2 and then to cyanogenmod 9 and loved it but the quadrant scores are to low now, 2300 with cyanogenmod vs 3780 with mike1986 6.7.2 Rom. Do you know any good rom that looks like cyanongenmod 9 and performs like mikes rom? Or a cyanongenmod theme, anything that make it looks like cyanongenmod 9 *.*
Kind Regards,
Pedro Martins
You can try HyperNonSense 3.3, or Virtuous Inquisition though HyperNonSense better in my opinion
Although the CM9 themes will not work... But you get to keep the excellent HTC camera (the CM9 one is a bit cack sadly)
Ticks all the boxes - Looks/behaves like CM9, completely compatible with Sensation.
I recommend flashing Sebastian kernel latest version from recovery here
By the way... Quadrant scores mean bugger-all

Benchmarks are not a good way of deciding which is the best ROM. The best way of deciding is asking questions like "does this rom lag more than that ROM?" "does this ROM feel more responsive to use than that ROM?" etc etc.
Benchmarks show how the ROM performs when the CPU is used in 1 type of way - at 100% load. Most users never use their CPU at 100% for most of the time so benchmarks are very poor at showing performance on a day-to-day basis
I totally agree with you, the Rom that looks more complet is the mike's one, also the faster in my opinion but the overclock makes me think twice since it will destroy the system faster and drain more battery, about the aspect I really love cyanongenmod, no lag, awesome looking but I think that it drains to much battery, I got 2 anker battery's incoming so it should do the trick, don't know which one should I go for :/ By the way, does anyone knows how can I sync or just see the contacts that I got saved in my vodafone SIM Card?

hi guys,
Im new to sensation XE and I have few questions about it.
first of all, its not my mobile its my girlfriends so i dont really have access to it 24/7 as i would like to it runs 2.3.4 sens 3.0
ive been reading through the process of rooting and different roms just to have everything clear before i start to mess about with it lol
right so.... which rom would you recommend ( very stable as she s a girl and fast cos she s a geek too ) ?
is there any other difference between sens 3 and 3.5 apart from panorama mode??
and finally, is it possible to undervolt it in the CWM or just through the setvsel ??
one more thinng i forgot about .....is swype available on sensation? i ve seen trace thing on her phone but couldnt really get it working ( only 2 mins of trying as she had to go to work )
thanks a lot for help
regards,
There are many stable Roms... Sense 3.5 is minor improvement in ui from 3.0... I like 3.5 more
there are several stable ROMs... I like insertcoin and stock by Eddy the most though most have proven to be very good and stable...
To underclock you have to flash custom kernels...like faux and bricked kernel...
Faux kernel comes built-in ARHD ROM... Many others have custom roms... RCmix and elegancia Roms are awesome too.. Not to forget the ARHD which has its own beauty...
You can install any ROM with stock kernel and flash custom kernel..
For girls i would suggest you stick to Stock kernel... I found that most stable and gives good battery life...
thanks a lot it looks like the process is a bit different to my moto defy ( happy owner ) ...btw is it the same as on moto defy that if you flash newest stock rom there is no chance of downgrading ?
so there is no chance of undervolting and overclocking the stock rom with stock kernel ?
do you know where i can download a stock rom from just in case something would go wrong??
sorry for so many questions
Rooting S-off is the simplest procedure... There are several guides to do that in Android development.. Follow the one by x-Viper-x
Make sure you are on hboot 1.8 or below...
Here is guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300
There is no downgrading problem...u can easily shift from sense 3.5 to 3.0 (2.3.5 to 2.3.4) but Only if you upgrade your hboot by flashing latest RUU, you can't downgrade that...
Just don't flash official RUU roms .. They can be flashed for warranty sake only... ONLY flash stock Rooted roms by EddyOS if you want pure stock experience without upgrading hboot/radio...
Here are Eddyos stock rooted ROM threads
http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php?searchid=1852412
If you really want official RUU then follow the thread below... Find your radio, software version and match with files on site, download and flash it...but it will relock (s-on) your device..and latest ones might upgrade your hboot... Then revolutionary method might not work to s-off...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074559
Stock kernels can't be underclocked ...only customs have the ability and u can overclock that too
Thanks a lot jjdoctor, i wanted to ask about RUU roms but you ve made it already a bit clearer
although the stock kernel cannot be undervolted, can I install some mods on it ? suck as 1% step battery or change a battery icon or install amaze camera ??
thanks again and im going to read some more stuff

Hi
If you want to try ARHD here is the main 2 things. Both versions are very stable.
4.1.9 is Sense 3.5
3.6.9 is Sense 3 (which is what comes on the phone)
3.5 is more polished and better laid out
3.0 seems a bit smoother and is better for gaming
as for bricked the best luck I have seen is version 1.51 beta 1 v528.
Thanks both of you for reply Kohr.Ah can you please provide me links with that cause it's really hard to find different versions they're all mixed, and I am so confused right now Please help me with this, First of all I am so scared now of ARHD roms because I had just installed ARHD 5.0.2 on my phone with radio 11.xx.xx.xx.xx But I didn't see any changes it was all same like , Dialer, Launcher home, lock screen etc, BUt I had a problem my call was restarting by itself It did restart byitself like 8 or 10 times I tried turning off and turning on again and also I tried reinstalling the rom but the problem was same, Then I reinstalled my old radio and this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1406322 which I was using before this rom is really nice but has some bugs because it's ICS, The thing is I don't want to brick my phone I can't afford another one, First time in my life I have a phone like this, So pleaseee help me which rom is good, I am planning to install 4.1.9 with sense 3.5 and the brick kernel ver 1.51 as you said But I can't find the link can you please tell me if it's right ? and please also provide me the links Thank you

I am on the phone and can't link unfortunately. But if you go to ARHD thread 4.1.9 should be post number 3. You will see a banner that says download and under it will say 4.1.9.
If you have trouble finding it I can link you it later today

Flash Energy rom, In my opinion Energy ROM with sense 3.5 is the best rom out for sensation series. Very attractive as well as good battery life. Since i got my sensation I have tried and tested all roms, Energy is the best one out there, Other with good battery life are Elegancia ROM, Percaso rom, and RC MIX

Have a look at my sig, it contains links to my favourites at the moment.
3.6.9- the link is also there for 4.1.9, Bricked link and the radio which has given me least issues.
Spotify?
Has anyone found an ICS sensation rom that works with Spotify?
Thank you so much everyone for your help and support I don't know, I just can't figure out why ARHD doesn't work on my cell, I have tried different versions of ARHD but I am having a same problem with all the versions my mobile is restarting with all the ARHD rom's :/ and now again I am gone back to Ultimite ICS rom, BUt I am happy with that now, I am just scared of flashing other rom's and the battery timing is also pretty good It's nearly 9 hours on my battery and I've still got 78% left I have made some calls and took some pictures and WIFI is on. Thanks guys

Hi, I have recently rooted my Desire S, with revolutionary, clockwork etc, and I currently ported this rom HTC_DESIRE_S_2.3.5-2.10.401.4.zip
Everything is working just fine, but theoretically, when I decide to port a new rom, how would I know which will work, and which won't?
Actually, I'm waiting until ICS is released for desire s, so I can find it and install it...
Are there any methods to identify which rom would be compatible?
Thank you!

hey mate
your're actually talking about two different things: porting a ROM and flashing a ROM.
Porting means, you take a ROM from another device and modify it so it works on your device too.
flashing means, you take a ROM which is already optimized for your device
and install it, so you wipe the stock firmware and get a custom rom.
which of the two things is what you want to do? i think its just the flashing.
so you can take any ROM from the "development section", and if you follow the guides that you can find everywhere here im sure you will be succesfull and happy with it.
bytheway
there is no "best" ROM for your device. it all depends on what you need and want. there are alot sense 3.5 Roms, Endymion 3.4 is the one i would recommend. you can also try AOSP ROMs (android open source project, means no sense), cyanogenmod7 could be a good first choice. and you can also try ics right now, since there are at least 3 (?) ICS AOSP ROMs right now:
CM9, Virtuous Quattro RC3, IceColdSandwich
have fun!
Yes I meant "flashing" a rom
Thanks for all the information. That's the general idea I have as well, however I had this question because after I flashed another rom (official rom through htc sync - that could have been the problem) over my first flashed one , the phone was "bricked"....

i would never recommend to flash an official ROM over a custom ROM. But anyways, i think if you would have done a full wipe before flashing the official rom you wouldnt have got a "you call it brick"
a real "BRICK" is a useless phone, where there is no way to use it again.if there is still a way, its no brick.. but who cares about definitions
I recommend you to flash the ROMs only through recovery mode. AND ALWAYS DO A FULL WIPE BEFORE FLASHING A NEW ROM. very important
and dont forget to backup as always
Yes you are absolutely right. I'll have that in mind the next time I'll decide to flash a new one
Yeah the device wasn't completely useless, it hanged at boot...but I guess that was due to not following the right procedure as you previously described..
Thanks eyahl
Start flashing different roms and trying them for a day or two. First
Sens 3.0 and then sense 3.5 roms to see the difference. Only then you will know which rom is best for you.

Each ROM type suits different personal tastes, so there isn't an 'best' ROM for everyone. Trial and Error which ones suit you!
General opinions:
Stock
Pro: Straight from HTC, *newest kernel/drivers*, least likely to have compatibility issues.
Cons: HTC is slow to release updates, and sense interface is usually resource hungry.
Sense-like
Pro: usually keep the Sense interface, but custom kernals offer speed / various other improvements.Runnymead versions are kernals ported across from HTC Sensation (which offer some of the goodies like Beats Audio etc. that were not originally developed for Saga.
Cons: Sense interface is resource hungry...
CyanogenMod based
Pro: offer lots of customisations
Cons: not the most user friendly
AOSP
Pro: Roms from the android source, usually less resource hungry, so lighter and faster.
Cons: Obviously, no sense.
ICS Alpha/Beta
Not strictly a new category, but builds from the new Android 4.0 (ICS).
Currently some things (like camera) isn't fully working yet.
Note: new Desire S may suffer from camera/video lag bug with non-stock / non-sense ROMs, this is due to HTC putting in new hardware / driver into the new DS phones and the other kernels not reflecting this change yet.
Personally, I use SenseMOD Lite V1.2 build 2 as it is one of the few AOSP like builds that don't have the camera bug. Oxygen would have been best choice for me but unfortunately camera bug makes it unusable.
Hey guys. I don't want to drive over your feet, but I think the OP is already very satisfied with all those replies. specially the post above is really trying to help, but you spend much time to type what has already been written on the first page.

1)Is there any 4.2 ROM? If so is it stable?
2)In case he wants 4.1.x what's the best option for a guy that knows NOTHING about android?
3)Which is the best kernel for 4.1.x?
4)Which is the most stable ROM for daily use and hard gaming anyway?
5)How to root it?
6)Which recoveries are available for this phone?
7)What is the ROM flashing method for this phone and what is hboot?
8)What is needed to flash a ROM on the phone exactly as it comes out of the box?
Any help is appreciated because the phone will arrive in 2-3 days.
-UPDATE its an S4
Thanks in advance!

To answer any of this you first need to know if it's a S3 or S4.
Because this determines which ROMs or recoverys you can flash.

I'll never understand the deal with CM.
Personally I dont like it at all. There seems to always be at least one important feature not working properly.
I go against the stream and say, if hes not used to android I think rooted stock with maybe a different kernel would be more than enough for him.
The only downside with stock rom is that it lacks features for the more advanced users (like the majority on this site ).
Other than that the stock is actually pretty damn good.
Its by far the best stock rom Ive encountered, but this is my first HTC device though (unless you count my old QTek 9100 )

For me Sense is over the top but I do kinder like it.
Hi, I have the following problem - My friend got an old HTC Sensation XE, with stock ROM, not rooted, bootloader locked and so on. She got it from friend because her phone died and she needed some fair replacement. She have never done anything like rooting, flashing ROMs, nothing like that. But the problem is that the phone has become laggy, I am very supprised because its on stock rom and when I used to use my Sensation, when it still was a flagship and well after One X was available, it it was okay, snappy and everything as you all know it was a HTC's flagship phone and HTC would not push anything that would make it laggy, I did factory reset and such, but that did not realy help. I in other hand have done fairy bit of rooting, flashing ROMs, custom kernels and such, so I think that flashing some custom ROM would help this problem, and as I have moved from my Sensation and anything related to that I am out of the loop and have no idea what is the best rom to use or maybe a kernel. So I am asking you what to do or flash, I need something stable and fast, stable because phone will be used by person who does not quite understand tech and fast - to resolve the problem of not able to use it comfortably.
