the signal connection is only made when the back cover is on, I believe that the radio antenna is made when the metal contacts inside the bottom plastic back cover are in tact and clean

Have you tried to put a piece of paper behind the SIM card? I have to do that with mine - a strip about 6 mm wide, folded over so it's 3 layers thick and slid in behind the SIM card when the card is inserted to make sure there is sufficient contact pressure.

yeah tried the paper in sim card trick. interesting tho whenever i try to change it to gsm only it wont let me, i wonder if its actually barrred. but won the phone say when i put sim card in ??

Try it in another phone or call the network provider and ask them

Do other SIM cards work in the DS? It sounds like either the phone has, somehow, become 'locked' to a specific provider, or it is being black-listed - maybe the network thinks it has been stolen?

well ive unlocked the phone, and i checked checkmend dnt show up as flagged, but i spose that probably aint totally accurate.how can i tell if its been imei blocked , will the network provider tell me even tho im not the original acc holder??

I had the problem that the sim-card was to deep into the sim-slot.
So maybe you can try to put your sim-card not to deep into the slot. Just enough so the clip that holds the battery can close.

Tilt SIM issue

I have an At&t tilt a friend purchased that I have SIM unlocked and updated to the default shipped HTC rom with Radio v. 1.27.12.11, after several hours the phone can no longer read the SIM card and comes up saying the sim is missing.
If I reinstall the At&t rom and replace the bootloader to stock versions the phone is again able to "see" the SIM and works normally.
Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening? My intuition tells me it's the radio but I have done this to 8+ Tilt's and have not had any issue with any of them. (all of them are using radio 1.27.12.11 also)
Hi
this looks like a damaged SIM, try and contact your service provider to replace the it
Thanks, I've tried that.
I've tried putting a known good SIM into the phone with no luck. And if I put the SIM in question into another phone it works perfectly.
i flashed my Tilt with dutty's v3 rom with the 1.27.12.1 radio and had no problems whatsoever for six days.
I flashed my friend's Tilt with the same rom and radio and put my working sim in his phone to test voice quality, etc and got "Sim is missing error." I put a second working sim in the device and got the same error.
I now get the same error when I put both sims back into my Tilt.
I've done a hard reset and flashed 1.27.11.31 and issue persists.
any help is appreciated.
edit: I reflashed the radio. Now one of them is working.
I'll keep at it.
OK, Now after flashing both the HTC and AT&t roms several times as well as all of the radio varients I have determined that something is wrong hardware wise with the phone.
No matter what ROM I flash the sim card cannot be read and furthermore if I then flash the stock bootloader and "lock" the phone the SIM can be read for a period of about 10 minutes.
This is very strange and I can find no good explination for this behavior.
I am flashing the origional At&t rom and bootloader back on the device and sending it back to At&t.

hi so u mean u simunlocked your kaiser130 but how,, im unable to unlock my kaiser 130 locked on uk orange ---regards--cpukiller
I had this EXACT problem. My sim would work in my old 8525 and in an ETEN x500 but kept coming up NO SIM FOUND in my Tilt...It was a brand new TILT and I could not figure it out.
I put a little piece of tape on the lid of the sim card holder on the inside. It puts a little more pressure on the bar that holds the Sim in place and Voila! It recognized the SIM and I have not had a problem the last two weeks.
Give it a try...
I had the same issue with my kaiser. I was able to resolve the issue by applying pressure to the bar while shifting the SIM laterally. Sounds like there's a minor manufacturing issue with the SIM holder.

Just wondering, at times my phone drops signal completely. But only for like 30 seconds to a minute. Do you think it's possible that it "loses" the SIM card?
Or is it more likely that the Kaiser just has poor signal quality? Mine will drop signal even when in a 4 bar area, and when next to other phones on the same carrier which remain at 4 bars.
I would try it...I get very good reception with my TILT. I did try the putting a little pressure on the sim card initially and it would boot up and show the SIM but I would lose it quickly. I tried the little piece of tape as the next step. You don't need much, I used scotch tape and just a single layer so it doesn't add much pressure, just a little bit.

Weird thing on Orange e650

i have had my e650 for about 4 months, 2 months waiting for a screen.
I come to my phone the other day. BTW: i havent had credit for about 12 months. So opens internet explorer and types in news and it searches bing. Hold on? i havent got any credit. so i tryed google, loaded ok. facebook same.
With no credit!
No i wasnt using wifi because i was in school.
So i have been using the free internet for 1 1/2 days.
Why the free internet?
flyboy
Now they have disconnected my number.
This is related yo tour SIM card and has nothing to do with your device. Simply the different systems that check if your SIM is still alive and control your balance seem not well aligned, you were just lucky - that's all.
Iam not lucky that they disconnected my number!
Do you expect to have free surfing forever? The operator needs to make money to have the technology maintained - so pay your share or use WIFI. WIFI in the device is a main reason for the S710.
Im not thick
I discovered it wont read sim cards now for some strange reason.
So i might take it apart and fix it if i can.
Accessing the SIM requires to completely disassemble the device. There is nothing which could break either in that area, so I doubt that it will help.
Cross check if the same SIM runs in other devices - and if so then try to clean the SIM slot with medical alcohol and some cardboard that fits the thickness. If you are careful you will not break or bend any contact.
What is the message that device tells you when you try to use the SIM card?
Well brief history:
I got given 3 voxes
man said fix 1, you can keep the other two.
Made a good one out the two
Kept it and it works.
So i know how to take it apart. And i have had probs with muck getting in the top part of phone before so its probly muck. As you say i will clean it will alcohol wipes and get back to you!
thanks
flyboy
btw: i just get the message when you dont have the sim card in.
and have tried in 02 XDA II and works fine.
I tryed cleaning the contacts but it still wont read sim cards.
Could it be something in the rom?
flyboy
If you have some spare parts from other devices, just swap the upper PBA to see if it is a HW fault. I doubt it is a ROM problem, but you can swap ROMs as well to check.
What is the error message?
Can it just not find a network?
Is the SIM tollkit available (an additional menu item that links to the SIM card)?
Did you mess around with SIM unlocking tools (they may ruin your encrypted area on the device that holds IMEI, CID, Serial SIMLock end so on)? The encrypted area is not touched by any ROM update.
The phone acts like there is no sim in. I have tryed cleaning the contacts but no luck. I might try and flash a new rom to it. But as spare parts go i will have to wait till my Uncle gets back from work because i give them to him for his e650.
flyboy
So ive swapped sim slot and mainboard and the phone still says "no sim or sim invalid. But it works on my xdaII. I just dont get it!
can anyone help?
flyboy
Well i have changed almost everything and the sim still wont work on a vox.
new sim should come soon.

Samsung nexus s help

So i dunno if anyone can help me here but ill try anyways. I broke my partners screen on her nexus s so i got a new screen and repaired it. Everything went ok and the phone worked. But it seems the sim card reader was broke also as it wouldnt pick up any sim cards. So i bought a faulty nexus s off ebay so i could replace the sim reader. Now the phone works again but her o2 sim card has very little signal. I tried flashing new radios and this didnt help. I tried downgrading her phone back to 4.0.3 and this didnt work. Sat in the Loft room of my house it gets a signal but 0 bars. An orange sim card gets 2 bars. A vodafone sim card gets 2 bars. So i know the sim card reader works and the phone works but has weak signal. Is there anything else i can try as i cant think of anything. I was going to try flash cm7 and see if that worked but i figured it wouldnt as downgrading to 4.0.3 didnt help so much. Just looked at the phone and it had 1 bar for a second but now has 0 bars again. I can make calls from the loft but anywhere else in the house is a no go. Hope anyone has more knowledge than me and can help. The phone is back on 4.0.4 and using radio Radio KB3 as it couldnt find any network before i flashed this radio. Kinda felt like it didnt upgrade the baseband or something as it said baseband unknown.
first and foremost. Are you sure o2 has a similar signal strength in your house than orange and vodafone?
Is the simcard fitting properly?

Hi mike thanks for replying. Well i took the phone out of the house and it shoud've picked up a better signal. It still had 0 bars although the 3g sign came on. Which it doesnt in my house. And the simcard is definatly fitted correct.

Hi dude. Well i just completely took the phone apart again to check if i missed/broke anything and as far as i can see everything is intact. I dont really know where the antenna is but all the clips are in place and nothing jumped out at me as being broken. Any ideas where the antenna is im guessing it the gold circular thing behing the battery cover with the black thing and a tiny hole in the middle of it.

Nexus 5 "No Service, SIM card ok"

I have a nexus 5 "hammerhead" running the latest version of android marshmallow 6.0.1 .
My issue is, the device wont detect any network signal. At first i thought it was a software issue so I downgraded to lollipop and kitkat but the same issue still exist.
All I see is the network provider name, and beside it 'No Service'. I really dont know what else to do, unless this is a hardware issue. Anyone here had experienced the same issue and have it solved? Or am I just going to have to turn this device into a tablet. -___-
p.s. The screen broke and was replaced, and after return of the phone this happened. Is it that the phone repair guy damaged my device?
Plz help!?

yes i can clearly see the imei #. ..and about the antenna wires, yes both are connected but just that the white wire seems abit off. but i tested the continuity and it seemed to work.
The imei is the same before and after the repair?
Did you remove the motherboard and examine it for signs of damage or alteration?

Yes I did. Motherboard checked out ok. Just can't understand why no signal tho. Wifi and Bluetooth works well. And to answer your question, yes imei # is the same.
Also, I was told that the phone fell before the screen replacement and that's when the issue started.
Even if the antenna wasn't connected, it should be able to pickup some amount of signal. If that's not the case then I'll just have to replace the cables and the lower PCB also the speaker area.
Maybe the drop caused a loose connection on the motherboard?
Did you try pressing against the antenna connection points on the motherboard with the back removed?
Well not entirely.. All I tried was checking the antenna wires (which I realized are just the WiFi antennas) and also, tried placing a copper wire in one of the testpoint area that's dedicated to GPRS.
Is it possible that the transceiver may be damaged? Or that's not possible from a simple fall.
Imei is not blacklisted?
Nahh I doubt it. Phone was purchased unlocked was working for a while.. Fell, signal went ..broken screen.. Then once the screen was replaced, inserted sim and it detected sim and also the network but won't gain any bars (service) nor will it detect any other providers.
I would check the imei just in case.
What would I compare that to, apart from what the phone telling me?
I'm registered on the cell network, but no service despite the adjustments of changing the network type or by dialing *#*#4636#*#* and making alterations there.
You can check the imei in swappa.

Yeah pretty weird if you ask me. But if you do get a solution to that issue please share :good:
According to Rameeze87, possible hardware issue. Here's the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/help/nexus-5-network-signal-wifi-ok-t3310047
Had no idea couldnt duplicate threads, then again it did help to justify the issue.
same
Mine is doing the same thing. Once in a blue moon it will show full bars upon first inserting the sim for maybe three seconds and show provider then drop all the bars and say no service. Dont think there is a simple fix.
Having this issue right now with my wife's phone. Power button broke and was going through endless power cycling so I removed the power button. Got the phone working but will not connect to network. I have checked everything 20 times.
Any solutions?
Sent from my LG-H811 using Tapatalk
Yup.. same issue. Phone fell and no mobile signals since (sim gets detected). Everything else is working fine, checked the antenna wires and they are connected properly... Anyone here who was able to get the signals back?
similar issue here in the uk.
N5 phone worked fine for 2 years with a 3 sim.
i changed the knackered battery and that all works and charges ok.
but the 3 sim now wont work(but it does in my motorola moto g), the only sim that will work in my N5 is an O2 sim ???
why does one sim work but not another, the phone isn't locked to a carrier?....

SIM not detected after dropping phone

Hello! I've had the ONO (A0001) for about 3 years and it has been more than adequate for my needs. It has had a few drops along the way, but nothing terrible. Was always kept in a Diztronic case with screen protector. Been running the Resurrection
Remix ROM (Android 7.1.1) very stable since the start of the year.
However, after its latest fall (it actually landed screen first!), I've noticed that my ONO has stopped recognizing the SIM altogether. I've tried reinserting the SIM card, network reset, rebooting, cleared the 'Phone' and 'SIM Toolkit' app caches, wiped cache in TWRP, but to no success. Interestingly, WiFi still works. Attempting to access 'Cellular Networks' from 'Wireless & Networks' to change 2G-3G-LTE returns "com.android.phone has stopped" at every attempt.
Has anyone every experienced this before and knows how to fix it? I have a sick feeling that this may be a hardware problem.

Hi @xFalcon1986 I had a similar issue for about one year. This may or may not help but for what it's worth, here is my experience:
Only my home network sim card would reliably work. Recently, I was traveling and once again my roaming worked for a few minutes before the phone gave me the notification: sim not found. I decided that enough was enough - I needed to figure this out or get a new phone. When I removed the problematic sim and compared i to my old home network sim, I noticed that there was tiny bit of curvature on the card. Excited about the potential, I bent the sim that would go unrecognized within a few minutes. Turns out, the first time I bent it, the side I made concave was the wrong one. After the first failed attempt, I pulled the card out again and then bent it the other way. It didn't work either and hope was fading. Just to be sure, I bent the sim one more time - this time further than I thought healthy for the sim. Turns out those cards are quite flexible! Once I inserted the sim, the network connection returned and remained for at least 20 minutes. It then went unrecognized and so I bent it once again and everything continued working.
It turns out that I need to bend the sim card once per week but besides that, my phone once again recognizes the sim.
I have no idea if you went to another phone by now but give this bendy trick a shot. The metal contacts might just have been bent a bit too much one way or the other while the phone impacted the ground. Give it a try and let us know how it worked for you. Cheers!

I have a similar problem. I wanted to activate the SIM. I didn't have access to the SIM card number for activation. So I removed it to read the number. When I put it back in I started getting "not found messages". Turns out something happened to the SIM card tray, and the card slid off the tray and was stuck inside the phone! I finally got it out by bumping the phone against my hand.
I went through e-Bay and located a replacement as the original appears damaged.

Hi! Sorry for the late reply but yes the solution is working great. Because of it, I'm still making use of my OnePlus One! I found that after the second week of bending, the sim card held the shape for about three months before I needed to bend it again.
Funny thing is that I initially also had my sim stuck inside the phone for some reason and getting it out was a real pain. However, with the bendy trick the sim had been working and I've had no trouble removing it when necessary. Hope you were able to figure something out. ?
