Reading the rooting guide on the dev forum, "[GUIDE][VZW GS3 Edition]How to root your VZW Galaxy SIII", I'm pretty unclear which sections I'm supposed to do. My goal is to get rid of all the Verizon garbage and install JellyBeans using Odin via CM10 (I'm guessing). These are the sections in the guide... I'm not sure which I'm supposed to do...
Section 1: Using Odin to Root Stock ICS 4.0.4 (I install ICS even if I want JB?)
Section 2: How to get back to Stock from any rom (obvious skip)
Section 3: Installing any Touchwiz Rom from CWM Recovery (Is this required?)
Section 4: Installing a Touch Wiz Kexec kernel (Is this required?)
Section 5: How to install a CM9/CM10 based rom (This one is the goal!)
Also, if I install CM10 - how hard will it be to upgrade to the next version when it comes out?
....so confused.

Been researching the unlock/rooting process for my TF300T and have a few questions. I have the 4.1.1 bootloader.
So the process appears to be:
unlock
flash recovery (for 4.1.1)
backup
flash custom rom
1) Should I upgrade to 4.2.1 first? Seems like not as I have read the unlock process is sketchy on 4.2.1. But many of the ROM's only work if you have 4.2.1, so is there a process for updating to 4.2.1 AFTER unlocking and installing a recovery?
2) Getting root seems to be a separate step on this tablet that I do not understand very well. The phones that I have rooted have always obtained root through a custom ROM, but the threads I read here seem to refer to getting root through a separate step. Can someone please clarify this for me as well?
3) Finally, this may be a preference thing, but it seems that for 4.2.1 TWRP is the only viable recovery. For 4.1.1 I can choose TWRP or CWM. Is there a reason for choosing one over the other? I have used both on my phones and been happy with both. I would default to TWRP since there seems to be issues with CWM on 4.2.1 unless someone else has a valid reason to consider CWM. May not be an issue depending upon response to #1 above.
Many thanks!
So, I'm installing an custom rom for the 1st time.
So, my phone and other details;
Samsung Galaxy S Plus
Android 2.3.5 Stock
SIM-Locked.
Wanting this ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2315448
I know I lose the warranty, but i dont really care as there is like 2-3 months left.
I have some big questions, as im a noob!
1) Can being SIM-Locked cause any problems?
2) I read, that you don't have to root to install it.
3) How do I install it? I know something about root/Custom ROM's, but no idea about kernels/recoverys. Full tutorial if possible!
You need to install CWM recovery because You can flash new roms through it.. And for install CWM. You must have a rooted device. So Do this before installing any rom. Make sure You install rom of ur own device.
This is step by step guide of how to root ur device http://theunlockr.com/2012/05/29/how-to-root-samsung-galaxy-s-plus-i9100/
This is guide of installing CWM or TWRP recovery.. I recommend u to install CWM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2463347
After completing this two process u can install any rom by following the instructions given in the OP of the rom.
Hi! Well unfortunately a newbie here... Because I can't wait for Android 4.4 for my Galaxy Note (Curse you Samsung!!) and I want to try flashing custom ROMs on my Tablet. So I tired this ROM: http://bit.ly/1aTqOee and I used Recovery Tools - Flasher to download and install a custom recovery: http://bit.ly/1afRfKt and with CF Auto Root. Now the thing is I forgot to make a backup and after a few months I'll be going back to Stock Samsung ROM. Can someone please show me a detailed step by step on how do I get back to:
1. Stock Android Recovery
2. Unroot my Tablet
3. Go back to Stock ROM.
I heard that I can just download the appropriate ROM for my tablet on SamMobile Firmwares?
Thank you so much in advanced!
First, apologies for asking another "how to flash" , like the various existing threads. I had already hard bricked the same tab once, don't want it to happen again. I was able to get a used motherboard for this tab and got it to work. Currently on 4.2.1, build no. JOP40D.US_epad-10.6.1.31-20130823
I really would like some one who has the same tab as mine, to give me a step by step guide ( or point me to an existing link ) on how to flash recovery ( cwm or twrp, what version, fast-boot method or via rom manager, goo manager? etc ) after unlocking the boot-loader, and then flashing the custom ROM, installing the kernel. Looking to install either Omni ROM or CM11.
-bump-
Anyone?
Howdy y'all. I bricked my old G2 D800, I don't want a repeat with the new one. I tried doing all the research I could. I have a new D800, 10d, 4.4.2. I want CM11, tried reading the threads on that and custom recovery. I just need a little help to make sure I have the order of operations down pat before I crash another. I've rooted and flashed ROMs before, but not with th locked boot loader and security AT&T has.
Please just correct me if I'm wrong. Through the threads I have read I believe this is what I am to do.
1.) Flash my 4.4.2 back to 4.2.2 using LG FT
2.) Root using IO23
3.) Download Flashify & install TWRP 2.7.7 with Loki
4.) Follow steps to install CM 10.2
5.) Follow steps to install CM 11
Of course make backup once 4.2.2 plus root and TWRP is achieved before trying CM. I just want CM like I've had on previous phones. Thanks in advance.
All is good back to being ROM junkie. Anyone who does read and wishes to flash custom roms and get custom recovery on KK. Obtain root via IOroot25, then use AutoRec Recovery Installer for TWRP recovery.
